Ceiling tiles made of expanded polystyrene without seams. What are the types of seamless ceiling tiles - types, differences between foam ceiling tiles

Seamless ceiling tiles allow you to create very presentable relief coverings. At the same time, its installation is truly simple and with minimal costs time.

Seamless tiles - perfect finish guaranteed

Every year, the requirements for the finishing of ceiling surfaces in residential premises are becoming more stringent. Modern designers use a variety of materials to give the ceiling a neat and elegant appearance. Relatively recently, special seamless tiles have become especially popular. It is made from polystyrene foam. The peculiarity of such products is that there is no clearly visible edging on their edges. The described ceiling tiles have zigzag or rounded ends.

Seamless tiles on the ceiling

Due to this, the transition between individual products when they are laid on the surface to be decorated is visually almost invisible. As a result, we get a ceiling with perfect cladding. Seamless tiles are characterized by the following main advantages:

  • high level of heat conservation, fire and moisture resistance;
  • affordable cost (you will spend a minimum of money equipping the ceiling with the products described in the article);
  • possibility of painting the mounted surface in the desired shade;
  • excellent sound insulation;
  • ease of maintenance (the coating practically does not get dirty, and if this happens, dirt can be removed with a regular damp cloth).

It is also worth noting that seamless tiles can mask minor differences in height and unevenness on the base ceiling surface. The main advantage of the material in question is the ability to install it yourself. There is no need to turn to professional experts for help. Finishing is carried out in a simple and clear diagram.

The first stage of work - we will competently prepare for decorating the ceiling

First of all, you should decide on the number of polystyrene foam products. Seamless tiles are mostly produced in standard sizes - 50 by 50 cm. They are packaged in packages containing 8 units of products. They can be used to finish two square meters surfaces. Calculating the total number of tiles on the ceiling, as you yourself understand, can be done without difficulty. It is enough to measure its area. Experts recommend purchasing tiles with small relief patterns for cases where the walls in the room have visually noticeable diagonal discrepancies and are not very smooth.

Laying seamless tiles

If both the ceiling and wall surfaces are perfectly aligned, you can glue finishing materials with large patterns. Having purchased the required number of products for decoration, remove them all from the original packaging and carefully lay them out on a horizontal flat surface. Ceiling tiles should sit for a couple of hours. During this time, she will be fully erect. It will be much easier for you to glue such products to the ceiling. Now we begin to prepare the surface that we will finish. There should be no noticeable irregularities or large cracks on it. The ceiling surface should:

  • clean off the old coating well;
  • moisten all existing gaps and holes with plain water, then fill them with putty;
  • leave the ceiling for 24–30 hours;
  • After the putty has dried, grout the surface and treat it with a primer.

Your ceiling is completely ready for decoration. You can safely glue seamless tiles onto it. It will adhere perfectly to the surface, delighting you with its excellent appearance. Mark the ceiling in advance before gluing polystyrene foam material onto it. This is not difficult to do. Connect the corners of the surface to be finished diagonally using a strong thread. This will determine the center of the ceiling. You need to pull the threads from it again. But now they must be laid parallel to the walls of the room.

After all these simple steps, you will receive a surface divided into four sections. Now you can glue ceiling tiles without worrying that they will lie crookedly.

We carry out the finishing - we get a chic interior

Seamless tiles should be glued with a special compound that is designed to work with polystyrene foam products. Such mixtures can be found in any hardware store. Usually sold in buckets or easy-to-use tubes. Differences between formulations in in this case No. You can glue tiles to the ceiling diagonally or parallel to the walls. In the first case, the very first product is mounted in the center of the ceiling. Don't forget to make a hole of the required size in the tile. It is necessary to install the chandelier. Here it is important to place the finishing product so that it matches perfectly with the lines of the markings you made. All subsequent tiles are installed close to the first.

Installation ceiling tiles

With the parallel laying method, polystyrene foam fragments are mounted squarely. Start from the corner of the room and fill (gradually) the selected part of the ceiling. There's no need to rush. Constantly check how evenly and correctly you are laying the decor. Important point. There are small arrows on the back of the seamless ceiling tiles. They indicate the direction in which the products should be glued. The arrows on all tiles must point in the same direction.

Glue is applied to individual fragments of the seamless coating in the middle (on convex areas) and along the edges. It is most convenient to perform this procedure using a regular or. Adhesive compositions from different manufacturers are characterized by their own holding time. You will need to look at the instructions for the glue where it is specified. For most mixtures, the holding time is in the range of 5–15 minutes. Even easier to use liquid nails. If you purchased just such glue, you don’t have to worry about its aging at all. Simply apply liquid nails to the tiles and immediately stick them to the ceiling surface. You can rest assured that the product will firmly adhere to it.

Tiles pre-cut to specified sizes are always installed near the walls. At the same time, the geometric parameters of these cut products should be verified as clearly as possible. If you make the tile too small, decorative plinth will not be able to close the gap between it and the wall surface. One more nuance. Try to glue the tiles as closely as possible to each other. If you do not follow this recommendation, you will not be able to get a truly seamless ceiling. And then all efforts will be in vain. It is also very important to carefully press each decorative item to the ceiling and hold it for the time specified by the adhesive manufacturer.

Laying a seamless surface is most conveniently done with two people. One person will glue fragments of a single canvas, and the second will press a fragment of a tiled mosaic to the ceiling, using any handy tool with a long handle (for example, an ordinary mop found in every home). When installing tiles, it is advisable to stand on some kind of elevation. Then it will be convenient for you to carry out the planned work. Ideal if you have small construction sawhorses. If there are none, use a stepladder or, as a last resort, a stable table.

Ceiling decoration with seamless tiles

The final finishing touches are the installation of the plinth. If you are installing a decorative element with an original relief ornament, you need to carefully cut it to the required size so as not to spoil the design. In cases where a regular plinth is used - without elaborate patterns or other complications, it is enough to cut it at a 45-degree angle in the right place. The plinth begins to be installed from the corners of the room according to the following scheme:

  • process the edges decorative element glue;
  • press the plinth against the wall and ceiling;
  • keep the decor in this state for a certain time.

If excess glue gets onto the ceiling surface, do not try to rub it off. Take a dry rag and gently blot the area where the adhesive got in. Good luck with creating a luxurious ceiling surface without a single seam!

Preparing the ceiling and materials for work

If there are seams between the tiles, it doesn't look very nice overhead. Ceramic tile without seams it will not stick to the ceiling, since the seams level out errors in its geometry and compensate for the difference in temperature expansion of the tile and its base.

In this case, the finishing emphasis is on the absence of seams, because this gives the ceiling a more aesthetic and presentable appearance. Manufacturers decorative tiles came up with new technology seamless styling. Expanded polystyrene ceiling tiles will make the surface level because it hides differences in height of the surface. Laying tiles without seams is a simpler process than preparing for the work itself.

Before installation, it is necessary to carefully prepare the ceiling: wash it well, remove paint, wallpaper, and glue residues. Next, the most serious defects should be eliminated. This can be done using plaster or putty. Then the surface needs to be primed.

Two to three hours before installation, the material should be unpacked, laid out on a flat surface and allowed to lie indoors. To get a smooth and beautiful ceiling without seams, the tiles must be sorted, because it happens that defective copies are found in a batch.

Ceiling tiles without seams - correct marking and careful gluing

Before gluing ceiling tiles without seams, it is necessary to correctly mark the zones. First you need to find the center. To do this, mark the middle of the length and width and draw two mutually perpendicular lines, their intersection will be the center. Thus, the ceiling will be divided into four parts.

It is also worth checking the diagonal of the room itself. In case of visible deviations, it is recommended to choose tiles with a fine relief pattern. It can be laid in two ways: parallel to the walls and diagonally. When installing in parallel, you need to sequentially fill in all four parts of the ceiling markings; when diagonal, the first tile should be glued to the center so that all its corners clearly coincide with the marking lines.

To install ceiling tiles, it is recommended to use transparent water-soluble adhesive or liquid nails. The adhesive composition must be mixed, strictly following the instructions. The adhesive is applied around the perimeter and diagonals of the tile with a fine comb or narrow spatula.

Next, each element is glued according to the markings and pressed with the entire plane for 10-15 seconds. After this, you need to remove excess glue with a clean rag. Gaps between tiles should be avoided during subsequent installation.

Ceiling tiles

We eliminate sudden mistakes - we close the seams

Although the technology is called seamless, tight seams are only in theory. They are still present up to 1 mm thick, and if the ceiling does not have a clear diagonal, then even more. Over time, the joints between the tiles will become darker and more noticeable. To avoid this, you need to seal the seams.

This procedure will not take much time and effort, and dark crevices will not be noticeable subsequently. Before sealing the seams on the ceiling tiles, you should select the appropriate composition. The seams can be sealed with special grout, acrylic sealant or putty.

Silicone sealant is not suitable for these purposes, as it turns yellow over time. The seam is filled from a tube if you are using sealant, or using a narrow spatula if you are using mixtures.

You need to make sure that the entire seam is carefully filled, without gaps. After this, use a clean rag to remove any excess product used. Finishing touch– glue ceiling plinth, decorative rosette for the chandelier and paint if necessary.

Ceiling finishing

Seamless ceiling tiles can be considered an ideal coating that allows you to achieve short time and for little money a decent ceiling surface with an interesting relief. The types of seamless tile coverings and how injection ceiling tiles and baseboards differ from them will be discussed in this article.

In its final part, instructions will be given on how to glue the tiles with your own hands.

Description and properties

The photo shows how the injection ceiling plinth organically complements

What distinguishes it from other similar materials for the ceiling is that it is made in such a way that during the process of attaching it to the ceiling, the joining seams between the individual elements are as invisible as possible. Proper gluing allows you to obtain a visually monolithic, integral ceiling with certain properties.

Seamless tiles, which are based on foamed polystyrene, are produced by hot pressing, which makes it possible to obtain denser and more durable sheets with a thickness of about 5 mm.

Ceiling injection

On sale you can often find products with dimensions of 50 x 50 cm, packaged in 8 pieces in one pack, which is designed for 2 sq.m of ceiling surface.

The material can have different configurations with a smooth or wavy surface. They are made so that when the pattern of two elements is joined, they fit perfectly and continue each other.

Important! Seamless tiles can have different design– imitate artistic carving on wood, any natural texture and plaster stucco. To decide on the format and design, it is enough to take into account the features of the room, style direction and personal preferences.

Seamless products with geometric patterns for modern interiors

This finishing material has the following positive properties:

  1. Fire resistance;
  2. Increased heat and sound insulation properties;
  3. Price on this material is noticeably lower than for other finishes;
  4. Moisture resistant material, therefore can be used in damp rooms;
  5. The material is practical and has a long service life;
  6. The tiles can be painted, and therefore allows you to bring to life any idea regarding color range interior;
  7. Using seamless tiles you can hide defects in the rough ceiling.

Ceiling injection

High performance characteristics, combined with affordable cost, make seamless tiles one of the leading materials that allow you to independently finish the ceiling in any room.

Varieties

Depending on the method of tile production, which affects some of the performance properties of the material, there are three types:

  1. The simplest and inexpensive option is a stamped tile, in the manufacture of which they use the pressing of polystyrene granules into foam blocks under medium pressure. This stamping makes it possible to obtain products with a thickness of 6 to 8 mm. The strength of such tiles is less than that of other analogues, so it is necessary to carefully lay them. Material consumption may also increase for this reason. Such tiles do not have a protective front coating, and therefore are friable and hygroscopic - dirt easily penetrates into its structure, and wet cleaning of the material is not provided. Therefore, it is better to refuse to decorate the ceiling in the kitchen with it;

  1. are obtained using innovative equipment with simultaneous molding and pressing. From other analogues of this class finishing ceiling materials it is different:
  • strength;
  • moisture resistance;
  • hygiene;
  • durability;
  • high cost;
  • recovers after deformation.

Extruded polystyrene foam ceiling tiles are easy to process, and therefore, with a certain skill in working with them, you can perform a neat installation. The presence of cavities on the back side allows you to hide defects in the ceiling and not have to carefully prepare it before installation.

Often the front layer of such tiles is laminated or impregnated with a special water-repellent composition. This quality allows it to be used in wet areas - bathrooms and kitchens.

  1. Injection tiles are also characterized by greater strength than stamped ones.. For its production, foamed foam is used, which is sintered in a mold and then subjected to high-temperature treatment. As a result, the product acquires a small thickness, but has high heat and sound insulation, moisture and heat resistance, strength and environmental qualities.

The tile is characterized by the presence of a deep and clear pattern, which allows it to be used not only on the ceiling, but also on walls to give them an intricate and original relief. This is also possible because the front surface of injection tiles can imitate the appearance of other materials - wood, ceramics, fabric or marble.

White tiles can be painted in any shade using paint that is evenly distributed over its surface.

Any is a low-melting material, but injection products are processed using special compounds that make it difficult to burn. Tight joining of the edges of the elements is aimed at maintaining the integrity of the lines, which allows you to obtain a smooth ceiling covering without visible seams and transitions.

That is why it got the name – seamless. In terms of cost, it is several times more expensive than stamped, but due to its high technical specifications and expressive appearance, is very popular compared to other analogues of this finishing material.

The surface of the products can be laminated or matte with a relief ornament or pattern.

Important! White ceiling tiles allow you to make the interior solemn and compensate for the use dark shades in him.

It is not difficult to calculate the amount of material required, and this is where work on installing the ceiling covering begins. The manufacturer indicates on the packaging recommendations for calculating material per square meter. More often in stores you can find products with a size of 50 x 50 cm, 8 pieces in a pack, which is enough for 2 sq.m of ceiling.

Advice. Taking into account the possible formation of defects, tiles should be purchased with some reserve. It will also come in handy if you need to replace one of the elements in the future.

Preparatory work

Gluing the ceiling with tiles is not difficult and does not require special skills or tools.

High-quality coating can be obtained through careful, unhurried work, correctly selected glue and careful preparation of the base, which includes the following steps:

  1. Removing the old finishing layer. Depending on the type of previous finish, one or another technique for removing it is used. Regular whitewash is washed off with water until concrete base. Paint is removed wire brush, and wallpaper and plaster are cleaned with a spatula. If the wallpaper is glued too firmly, you can purchase a special remover;
  2. During the installation of the tiles, the lighting fixtures are removed and the wires are reliably insulated;
  3. The cleaned base is treated with a primer, which increases the level of adhesion between the material and the base.

Glue selection

No less important than surface preparation is the choice of adhesive composition.

High-quality glue is characterized by the following properties:

  1. High adhesion;
  2. Clearly defined viscosity;
  3. White color;
  4. Versatility;
  5. No solvents in the composition;
  6. Maximum drying speed.

Types of glue

The following adhesive compositions, which can be used when finishing ceilings with injection tiles, meet the above requirements:

Universal adhesives are presented by many manufacturers. Here are just a few of them:
  • Eltitans can be used on wood, plaster or concrete surfaces. The glue is highly elastic. The disadvantage is that it takes a long time to dry;
  • Titan Wild can most often be found in stores. It dries quickly and is used for gluing metal, glass and plastic elements;
  • Master glue is similar in composition to Titan Wild, but it is cheaper and inferior to it in what it has bad smell and takes a long time to dry;
  • Moment glue, although expensive, has excellent qualities– sets and dries quickly, but its consumption will be greater. You can solve the problem using a dispenser gun;

Using liquid nails, you can not only glue the tiles to the ceiling, but also process the joints, as well as glue the injection molding to the ceiling.

To work with this type of adhesive, you need to purchase a special dispenser gun. Glue consumption depends on the type of base and its quality.

To glue the tile to a flat base, apply a little glue to it in the corners and in the center. Liquid nails provide strong, high-quality adhesion. Due to its thick composition, the glue can be applied in a thick layer if necessary - when the ceiling is uneven.

Important! Liquid nails should not contain solvents, and their color should be white - this is essential if the tiles are thin.

Do not apply liquid nails too close to the edges of the tile, otherwise excess may form on its surface when attaching it to the ceiling.

To polyvinyl acetate varieties adhesive compositions includes PVA and bustilate, which have a number of advantages - they do not have an unpleasant odor and are easy to use. The nuance of working with such glue is that it needs to be applied both to the surface of the product and to the ceiling, therefore the material consumption increases. Then the foam panel is pressed to the base and wait until the glue sticks, so the time required to complete the work increases;

Fastening tiles with acrylic putty cannot be called standard, but this method is quite effective. To do this, use a finishing acrylic putty with sufficient viscosity to allow the product to be fixed to the ceiling. For this purpose it is applied thin layer, level and press the tiles. In this case it turns out monolithic coating no gaps.

Tile installation

  1. The tiles are released from packaging several hours before the gluing process;
  2. Markings are applied to the ceiling, having previously completed a sketch drawing, so that it is clearly visible in which areas it will need to be trimmed;
  3. The markings are diagonal lines connected in the center. It is from the point of their intersection that the laying of the first tiles begins. The center can be taken as the location where the lighting fixture is installed;
  4. The first tile is smeared with glue and the product is applied to the ceiling, lightly pressing and aligning its position relative to the markings. The glue is applied pointwise - in the center and edges of the tile;
  5. Subsequent fragments are glued as close to each other as possible. If excess glue protrudes from the gap, then wipe it off immediately so as not to damage the decorative front layer of the product when removing it later;
  6. The joints are sealed with white acrylic sealant, but it is better to avoid silicone sealant, as it turns yellow over time.

The video in this article will tell you how to properly attach an injection ceiling plinth.

If you want to achieve beauty and comfort in a room, you cannot do without a suitable ceiling finishing material to make the room neat and elegant. One of the most popular finishing products is seamless ceiling tiles, which appeared relatively recently, but thanks to their first-class operational properties, in high demand. Made from expanded polystyrene, it does not have a clearly visible edging at the edges, and its ends are straight, rounded or zigzag. This tile covering is ideal for creating beautiful ceiling, and its installation does not require much time and effort.

Figure 1 Ideal finishing material for ceilings.

Peculiarities

Seamless tiles are much like classic polystyrene tiles and are usually installed on a plasterboard ceiling surface. It differs from polystyrene only in its edges, which, if installed correctly, allow the joints to be hidden as effectively as possible. This feature makes the tile unique among similar finishing materials and quite common, which is also facilitated by its objective cost.

As already mentioned, seamless ceiling tiles are usually made from expanded polystyrene, which is formed during stamping when exposed to high temperature and allowing you to make the panel dense and thin (thickness approximately 5 millimeters).

Figure 2 Variety of patterns.

The standard package contains 8 panels measuring 50x50 centimeters. Their edges are straight, rounded or wavy. Seamless tiles can imitate wood carving, stucco, or have a natural texture. Such diversity allows you to realize the most daring design ideas.

Advantages and disadvantages

Seamless ceiling tiles have numerous advantages, including:

  • Fire resistance.
  • Affordable price.
  • Soundproofing.
  • Moisture resistance.
  • Thermal insulation.
  • Environmental friendliness.

Among the positive features of this finishing material, it should be noted that it can be painted in any desired color, as well as ease of maintenance (it tolerates exposure well detergents). The use of seamless tiles allows you to hide various defects on the ceiling surface.

Figure 3 Unique ornament.

Among its disadvantages, we note instability to temperature fluctuations and poor air permeability.

Varieties

Above, we looked at the features of the most common seamless polystyrene foam ceiling tiles, but there are two more varieties:

  1. Injection tiles. Quite durable, 9-14 millimeters thick. The pattern on the tiles is deep and of high quality, with a regular geometric shape. Thanks to reasonable cost, excellent operational characteristics and attractive appearance, the demand for it is quite high.
  2. Extruded tiles. The thinnest of all varieties, no more than 3 millimeters thick. Despite its small thickness, it is durable and strong. Its price largely depends on the texture and color, for example, white is the cheapest, but colored varieties of ceiling tiles without seams are significantly more expensive. Extruded tiles are distinguished by a variety of contours, for example, zigzag or wave-like shapes. This feature makes it unique, more attractive and greatly simplifies installation.

The choice of the type of seamless tile depends only on your preferences, the characteristics of the room in which it will be installed and the planned budget.

Choosing the right one

Seamless ceiling tiles allow you to make the room beautiful and implement almost any design ideas, only if you choose it competently, carefully, paying attention to following parameters:

  1. Tile edges. They must be perfectly smooth, because even a slight unevenness will reduce the quality and make this finishing material unsuitable for use.
  2. Surface. There should be no bulges or depressions on it, its surface should be absolutely smooth.
  3. Strength. This characteristic is very important, since if the strength is insufficient, there is a risk that the tile will break or bend.
  4. Polystyrene. The granules of this material must be completely smooth and free of voids and inclusions.

Attention: If, when choosing tiles for a ceiling without seams, you have doubts about its quality or are alarmed by any discrepancy among the parameters listed above, we recommend that you look for it at another retail outlet.

Preparation

Before preparatory work, decide on the number of tiles that will allow you to make a ceiling without seams. As mentioned above, the package usually contains 8 panels, the width and length of which are 50x50 centimeters. Knowing that one package is enough to finish 2 m2, you can easily calculate it required amount, measuring the ceiling surface. If the ceiling is not too smooth, we advise you to opt for tiles with small patterns. Products with large patterns are recommended for a completely flat ceiling.

Figure 4 Relief ceiling covering.

To install the tiles you will need some equipment:

  • Square.
  • Level.
  • Construction trestle, table or ladder.
  • Leg-split.
  • Pencil.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Meter ruler.

Having prepared everything you need and purchased the required number of tiles, pull them out of the packaging and lay them out on a flat surface for several hours so that they straighten as best as possible and make them easier to glue. But before we figure out how to glue seamless ceiling tiles, let's consider how to prepare the base surface.

Attention: It should not have significant defects (cracks, irregularities, etc.).

The preparatory work phase includes the following steps:

  • Dismantling lighting fixtures and insulating wires.
  • Complete removal of old finishing coating.
  • Wetting with water all existing gaps and irregularities.
  • Putty work.
  • Allow the surface to dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Grouting and priming the ceiling.

Having completed the preparatory work, you can proceed to installing the tiles. Not everyone knows how to properly glue ceiling tiles without seams, but this is a fairly simple procedure. But before carrying it out, do not forget to mark the surface with a strong thread to determine the center of the ceiling. Once you've finished marking, you'll have four equal sections. If everything is done correctly, there is no need to worry that the material will lie crookedly.

Installation

The ceiling tiles are fixed with a special glue designed for polystyrene foam materials and sold in convenient tubes and buckets. Pasting is done parallel to the walls or diagonally. In the latter case, installation finishing products starts from the center of the ceiling.

Figure 5 Correct installation.

Attention: Don't forget to make a hole in it for later installation of the chandelier.

If you decide to glue tiles parallel to the walls, start the process from the corners of the room, and gradually finish the entire selected surface. Remember, haste here is unnecessary and can cause harm. Check the installation for correctness and evenness. The direction in which the ceiling tile is glued is determined by the small arrows located on the back of it (all arrows must point in the same direction).

Apply glue with a spatula to each tile along the edges and in the middle. Depending on the manufacturer, it may have a different exposure time, usually not exceeding 15 minutes (to find out this indicator exactly, read the instructions).

Also, for installing seamless slabs on the ceiling, you can use liquid nails, which are characterized by quick and strong adhesion to the surface. Their use allows you not to worry about exposure, because you just need to apply liquid nails to the material and immediately glue it to the ceiling.

Figure 6 Installation with a partner.

Tiles installed near walls are cut according to the right sizes. Their parameters must be verified as accurately as possible, since if a mistake is made and the tiles are of insufficient size, the gap between them and the wall surface will not be closed.

The tiles should be mounted as closely as possible to each other, otherwise you will not be able to make a beautiful and high quality ceiling without seams and your work will go down the drain.

Attention: If you are using special glue rather than liquid nails for gluing, press each tile well to the surface for as long as indicated in the instructions.

During the use of seamless tiles, several recommendations were created that we will share with you:

  1. Installation is best done by two people, as it will be much more convenient than alone - one will glue the tiles, and the second will press them to the surface. For the last manipulation, you can use any long-handled tool at hand, for example, a mop.
  2. The person who glues the tiles is recommended to be on an elevated platform, for example, on a construction trestle, and if this is not available, on a table or ladder.
  3. If you are installing tiles with original relief patterns, they should be cut in such a way as not to damage the pattern, and if there are no patterns, they are cut in the right place at an angle of 45 degrees.
  4. If there is excess glue left on the surface of the ceiling, it should not be rubbed. It is better to blot these places with a dry, clean cloth.

If you follow these recommendations, it will be much easier to stick seamless tiles onto the ceiling surface, and this procedure will not take much time and effort. Performing work slowly and correctly, excellent result will be guaranteed.

Conclusion

Seamless ceiling tiles are a first-class finishing material for creating a beautiful and unique design premises. Distinguished by numerous advantages, they have practically no disadvantages and can be used for finishing rooms in an apartment, private house or office. Their installation is quite simple, and you can do it yourself, although for ease of installation, it is advisable to have an assistant. Before gluing the tiles, carry out preparatory work and ceiling markings. To fix the material, special glue or liquid nails are used. If you follow all the recommendations, you will achieve extraordinary aesthetics of the room, which will delight not only you, but also your household and guests.

The main point of the article

  1. The use of seamless tiles allows you to hide the joints on the ceiling and achieve an ideal ornament on it.
  2. For the manufacture of this finishing material, polystyrene foam is used, which has virtually no disadvantages.
  3. When choosing a tile, pay attention to its strength, surface, edges and other parameters.
  4. Ceiling finishing is preceded by preparatory work.
  5. Installation is carried out parallel or diagonally.

Seamless ceiling tiles will help create a beautiful and original relief on the ceiling surface, transforming the interior. In this case, the material will not require significant financial investment, and installation of the panels can be done easily with your own hands.

What is seamless tile

Seamless ceiling tiles are a classic coating in the form of slabs of regular square shape, with specially designed edges that make the connection with adjacent elements almost invisible. As a result, the finished surface acquires perfect integrity, and the boundaries of the transition from one slab to another are almost impossible to distinguish. Thanks to this feature of seamless tiles, designers often include this finishing method in their projects.

According to the manufacturing technology, it is assumed that a material such as seamless tiles can be divided into three main types:

  • pressed. It is made from foamed polystyrene through a hot stamping process. In this case, the sheets are compacted as much as possible, and the finished products have a thickness of 5-7 mm. A standard package of 8 pieces is enough to cover 2 m² of ceiling surface. Among the advantages of such tiles are low cost;
  • injection It is more durable and 9-14 mm thick. Products are made in the correct geometric shape with a deep relief pattern applied to the elements;
  • extruded– the strongest and most durable type, the thickness of which does not exceed 3 mm.

A seamless ceiling can have different contours. At the same time, the external design on the product is applied in such a way that when joining individual elements, creating an image does not cause difficulties, and the joints remain invisible.

Advantages and disadvantages of tiles

Seamless ceiling tiles have the following advantages:

  • ease of installation and maintenance;
  • moisture resistance and fire safety;
  • wide range of products, big choice shades;
  • good heat and sound insulation properties;
  • the material perfectly masks flaws on the base ceiling surface;
  • environmental component included in the product pure material will not cause harm to health;
  • acceptable price.

However, such tiles also have disadvantages. These include:

  • it requires careful handling. Even minor mechanical impact may damage the panels during installation or transportation;
  • does not tolerate temperature fluctuations well;
  • has low air permeability.

To ensure that seamless ceiling tiles serve you for many years, when choosing products, follow the following rules:

  • carefully examine the back of the squares. It should be smooth, without noticeable flaws, cracks, chips or dents. If the listed defects are present on the surface, this means that violations were committed during the production process;
  • The closest attention should be paid to the edges. Even minor irregularities will make the joints on the ceiling noticeable;
  • Pay attention to the clarity of the pattern and relief on the front side of the slabs. There should be no unnecessary indentations on them;
  • take one element by the corner and lift it. If the material is of high quality, it will not bend or break.

Reliable must meet the following requirements:

  • have good adhesion properties, provide high degree adhesion of products to the surface being finished;
  • provide the coating with a long service life without the need to change or modify its individual sections;
  • An important point is the consumption of the composition, which depends on the level of adhesion. The greater the value of this indicator, the less glue will be consumed;
  • the glue should adhere equally well to the surface, regardless of the thickness of the layer. The properties of modern adhesive compositions make it possible to use them on uneven surfaces. For example, when there are quite large defects on the ceiling - concrete sagging or cracks.

Installation procedure

How to perform the correct material calculation

Before you begin installing ceiling tiles, you will need to calculate required quantity elements. To determine them, you need to find the area of the ceiling surface and find out the size of the panels. Products are usually produced standard sizes 50 by 50 cm in packs of 8 pcs. One such package will be enough to finish two square meters of ceiling.

Having calculated the required amount of material, purchase it with a margin of 10-15%, in case the dimensions of the ceiling are not a multiple of the sides of the products, or a defect occurs during the installation process.

Required Tools

Repair will require a small number of standard tools. These include:

  • a simple pencil and nylon thread for marking;
  • roulette;
  • spatula for applying glue and distributing it;
  • stationery or construction knife.

Materials you need to purchase:

  • tiles;

The very last thing to attach is a decorative plinth, designed to mask the gaps between the walls and the ceiling.
