DIY door frame. Metal door with window and decor using cold forging technique

Manufacturers are increasingly using composite materials, plastic, and steel to make doors. However, the tree has not lost its popularity. Durable and warm material ideal for entrance doors to the house. The boards are used to independently assemble canvas for outbuildings and baths. Making a wooden door with your own hands is not difficult. You just need to have good board and a set of tools.

When producing wooden doors, you need to know the advantages and disadvantages of the material. The final result depends on this. The main difference between wood is its hardness. Soft woods are easy to work with, but are less resistant to moisture. This material is suitable for interior doors. Process hard wood hand tools difficult, but the material is more resistant to moisture. This wood is suitable for making entrance doors.

When talking about wood species, it is worth considering the resin content of the material. Larch takes first place in this regard. A product made from it will withstand dampness for a long time. Resin protects against rotting.

The following requirements apply to choosing a board:

  • minimum number of knots;
  • wood moisture content no more than 15%;
  • perfect evenness.

For outbuildings, used material taken from the dismantling of old buildings is suitable. Beautiful doors It is better to make one for the house from a new board.

Hardwood

  1. Birch quite hard and difficult to process, but has an attractive texture.
  2. Beech characterized by increased strength, but deforms with changes in humidity.
  3. Alder soft and rots quickly in high humidity.
  4. Oak hard, tends to split, but is resistant to dampness and beautiful.
  5. Nut It has an interesting texture, is easy to process, and is not afraid of moisture and mechanical stress.
  6. Maple moderately hard, well processed, moderately resistant to dampness.

For the manufacture of wooden entrance doors, oak or beech is most often used.

Conifers

  1. From coniferous species considered the most popular pine. Soft wood is easy to process, but does not withstand moisture well. The material is best used in the manufacture of wooden interior doors.
  2. Larch characterized by a beautiful texture and great resinity. Solid wood perfectly resists moisture, which makes it possible to use the board for assembling entrance doors.
  3. Spruce knotty, lighter and softer than pine, slightly inferior in strength.

Tools

In production, special machines are used to make wooden doors.

  • Reismus necessary for processing the board. The most productive are double-sided planing machines, which clean the workpiece in one pass.
  • Without milling machine Manufacturing wooden doors is not possible. It is used to make locking joints on boards, select chamfers, and process shaped workpieces.
  • When pasted on wooden frame linings are used press.
  • Circular saw loosen the board to the desired size.

To make wooden interior doors with your own hands at home, no one will buy expensive machines. An electric one is suitable for unraveling the board. disk saw.

You can select grooves and process the surface of the workpieces manual router.

Additionally, you should have on hand:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • wood hacksaw;
  • grinder;
  • chisels, mallet, corner, level, tape measure.

To paint the door leaf, it is advisable to use a compressor with an air gun.

Necessary materials

For the manufacture of wooden door do it yourself you will need the following materials:

  • dry tongue and groove board;

  • self-tapping screws;

During the purchase, the thickness of the boards is selected taking into account the installation location of the door leaf. For an interior door, 25 mm thick wood is sufficient. For the front door, use a 50 mm thick board. After purchasing, it is advisable to dry the wooden blanks by placing them on flat surface using pads.

Additionally, a mortise lock, hinges, handles, and a viewing peephole are purchased for the wooden entrance door. For an interior door, it is enough to take hinges and a handle with a latch.

How to make a wooden door?

When assembling a simple wooden door with your own hands, a drawing or complex diagram is not needed. It is enough to measure the height and width of the door leaf. The dimensions of the sash are calculated so that it fits into the grooves of the door frame, leaving a gap of about 5 mm around the perimeter. When making a wooden door, the main elements are prepared: a tongue-and-groove board with a tongue-and-groove lock for the door leaf and a crossbar made from edged blanks.

Consists of step-by-step instruction Assembling a wooden door with your own hands using the following steps:

  • the boards are sawn to the height of the future canvas and laid out on a flat surface, observing one direction of the pattern of annual rings;
  • the tenons with grooves are lubricated with wood glue, all the boards are connected, tightly squeezing the canvas with a clamp;
  • After the glue has dried on the outermost plank, the tenon is cut off from the end of the product, and the entire surface of the shield is milled and polished.

  • To prevent the sash from falling apart, the structure is secured with cross members. The edged board is shaped into a trapezoid, grooves are made on the canvas to a depth of 1/3 of the thickness of the wooden piece and they are lubricated with wood glue. The crossbars are inserted into the recesses by tapping with a mallet. For reliability, you can fix it with self-tapping screws.
  • To make the sash last longer, it is treated with antiseptic impregnations. If it is necessary to install a double-glazed window on a wooden door, a window is cut out in the panel using a jigsaw. A board is nailed to the center of the end of the entire perimeter of the opening - a stop for two glasses. After installing the double-glazed window, the edges are framed with glazing beads or decorative strips.

If thick fabric is required, the sash is made of two layers. In the two-layer technology for manufacturing a wooden door, the perpendicularity of the boards of both panels is maintained. Glue them together with wood glue.

Keyed

Assemble warm wooden doors for a private house without special effort can be made from boards with dowels. The manufacturing technology consists of the following steps:

Typically, solid doors for entering a house are made of oak, beech or cedar. The canvas can be decorated in an antique style or given modern style. A simple wooden door, assembled with your own hands from a pine board, will fit into a bathhouse or barn.

Panel

Panel door - a budget option. The frame is a rectangular frame made of boards. Fiberboard sheets are glued to both sides. IN industrial conditions additional veneer or laminate cladding is used. Another feature of the door design is the filling of the frame voids with insulation from wood waste: sawdust, shavings, small chips, corrugated cardboard.

Let's look at how to make a wooden panel door out of boards with your own hands step by step:

  • A fiberboard sheet is cut to the size of the sash, as well as blanks from boards for the frame;
  • all elements are laid out on a flat surface, connected to each other with wood glue and self-tapping screws;

  • bottom panel made of fiberboard with wooden frame formed voids that are filled with sawdust;
  • The upper part of the frame is smeared with glue, a second fiberboard panel is laid and the entire sash is pressed with a press.

You can glue veneer on top of the finished door leaf as a finish, and sharp corners round with a router.

Paneled

Design paneled doors It is a frame made of timber, inside of which a set of horizontal crossbars, vertical lintels, and also mullions are inserted. As a result, cells are formed for inserting the panel. The technology allows you to make a wooden door with glass, plastic, and other materials. The strength of the web depends on the number of crossbars.

The panel is cut to such a size that it fits into the cell with a gap of 2 mm. Glass inserts or fiberboard is immediately secured with glazing beads. The edges of a thick panel of plywood or chipboard are milled until they become 2 mm thinner than the grooves cut on the frame. The last to be attached are the framing beads.

Decor

Decorating a homemade wooden door begins with sanding. Next, the treatment is carried out with an antiseptic that protects the wood from dampness and pests. After drying, the surface of the door is covered with two layers of primer or putty. Finishing layer paint or varnish is applied.

If there professional tool, as well as certain skills, the canvas is decorated with carvings, stencils are cut out and even a mosaic is made.

The quality of the interior doors offered, which can be purchased at most hardware stores, cannot always satisfy customers. They can be beautiful and attractive, but the strength and durability of these products leaves much to be desired. Therefore, many home craftsmen have no choice but to make interior doors with their own hands. Moreover, there are no great difficulties in this if you select the material and follow a certain plan.

Materials for making canvas

Before starting work on self-production interior door you need to prepare the material. In most cases, wood is used for this purpose. The frame of the door leaf, as well as the door frame, is made from it. In addition to wood, the following can be used:

  • Styrofoam;
  • Cardboard honeycombs;
  • Glass;

Polystyrene foam and cardboard honeycomb are used as a filler for the door leaf; it is not made of solid wood. These materials are lightweight, which is important for subsequent use. In addition, polystyrene foam can reduce noise levels by making the fabric more sound-absorbing.

The use of glass for the manufacture of interior doors is primarily due to the aesthetic side. Such inserts visually expand the room and also allow you to diversify the design of the room. Glass also has one more property. It perfectly transmits daylight. Therefore, with glazed interior paintings the corridors of the apartment will be much lighter, even if the door is closed.

Fiberboard or its more advanced version MDF is used as cladding material. In the construction of the canvas, these materials are responsible for decorative finishing future product. At the same time, MDF is the finishing element, but fiberboard will have to be further processed to give it an attractive appearance.

In addition to the listed materials, sheets of laminated chipboard can be used as cladding. A wide selection of colors that imitate natural wood makes this type of finish very popular. It should be noted that the use of laminated chipboard will give the doors more rigidity in the diagonals.

PVA glue or confirmats can be used as fastening material. To coat the finished canvas you will need varnish. If you need to add color, the problem is solved thanks to stains and tinted varnishes.

Necessary tool

The next stage of preparation will be preparing the tools that will be needed to make an interior door. You need to have on hand:

  • Manual or electric plane;
  • Hacksaw or electric jigsaw;
  • Set of chisels and chisels;
  • Manual electric router;
  • Grinding machine;
  • Miter box;
  • Square and ruler;
  • Hammer and mallet;
  • Pencil and tape measure.

With this set you can safely start making any carpentry. You should also prepare a vacuum cleaner to quickly remove not only sawdust, but also dust, which should not end up on the surface of the product during paintwork.

Manufacturing and assembly

When the preparation ends, it’s time for the main work. You will need to perform the following steps step by step:

  • Take dimensions;
  • Process the material;
  • Perform markup;
  • Cut down and assemble the frame of the canvas;
  • Install fittings.

In order for the work to proceed quickly and the product to turn out to be of high quality, it is worth preparing a drawing. Thanks to it, it is easy to mark and not make a mistake with the configuration of the future door.

The principle of assembling a paneled door

Measuring the canvas

The work should begin with measurement doorway. This operation will allow you to calculate the dimensions of the box and canvas, as well as determine the configuration of the future product. If the opening does not exceed 80 cm, then a single-leaf one should be made door block. For a larger size, you need to make two canvases to reduce the load on the loops and give a more attractive appearance to the entire product.

The resulting size must be reduced in height and width by 2 cm. This is required to create assembly seam, obtained between the box block and the opening slope. After installation it is filled polyurethane foam. Using the obtained dimensions, a drawing is drawn up according to which the interior door needs to be made.

Door leaf dimensions

Such a manual should also contain the dimensions of the door leaf. To calculate them, you should subtract from the width and height of the opening the thickness of the box beam in the place where the quarter will be selected. From the resulting size it is necessary to subtract another 4 mm in width and from 4 to 12 mm in height. These values correspond to the gap that should remain for the free rebate of the door leaf. This defines all the data for the drawing.

It should be noted that the box beam does not have to cover the entire thickness of the wall. The remaining space can easily be covered by an extension installed after installation work..

Making door trim

As soon as the drawing with dimensions is completely ready, you can move on to the next stage of work. At this stage, the material should be processed and the frame of the door leaf should be prepared. To do this you should use a plane.

For the frame of the door leaf you need to use planed boards

For the frame you can take edged board 40 x 100 mm. The ideal option would be to purchase planed material, which will make the work easier and significantly speed it up. But you can also use simply sawn boards. They will have to be processed with a plane to make them smooth. During planing, you should carefully monitor the corners of the bars. They must have a strict 90 degree angle. You can check the work using a square.

Connection diagram of frame elements

Next, the parts are marked according to the dimensions indicated in the drawing. They will need to be sawed off. If the parts must be secured with tenons, then all horizontal parts of the frame will be longer by the size of two tenons. For example, for bars 100 mm wide, a tenon 70 mm long will be required for connection. In this case, 140 mm should be added to the size of the workpiece, which means two tenons on both sides of the part.

During processing, it is necessary to select a groove or quarter in the sides of the workpieces. This is necessary for installing glass or inserting panels if solid wood was chosen as the door manufacturing option. This work can be done using a hand-held electric router. A cutter of the appropriate profile is inserted into the tool and a cut is made on the side indicated in the diagram.

The groove in the workpieces is cut using a router

The parts for the door frame must contain a quarter, thanks to which the leaf can cover the opening. It is also made with a router, setting the depth and width of the cut. The size of the quarter should be based on the thickness of the door leaf. You need to add 1 mm to it for a better rebate. The depth of the quarter must be at least 10 mm.

Pre-assembly of the canvas

When the frame parts are processed and the places for the fasteners are sawn down, preliminary assembly of the interior door leaf can be done with your own hands. This operation will allow you to check the correctness of the marking and filing of all elements. The structure is assembled dry, which means without using glue. If the type of connection was chosen to be confirmed, then you will simply need to bait them without performing a tight twist.

When all the parts are assembled and fastened, check the width and length of the door leaf. If deviations from the drawing are found, then it is necessary to adjust the parts. After finishing work, the product is reassembled and inspected. If all parameters are met, you can proceed to the next stage.

Marking and making cuts

Separate mention should be made of marking parts and making cuts. This step by step process, where an error can result in reworking the entire product and damaged material. Therefore, all pencil lines should be made only after checking the size. And before starting sawing, the marking itself should be checked against the drawing.

When marking, you should strictly adhere to the dimensions

When marking, you can add 1 mm for adjustment. In this case, even if the workpiece is sawed off unevenly, it will be possible to correct it painlessly. If everything works out the first time, then the extra millimeter can be simply removed with a plane. To transfer the drawn line to the other side of the block, you should take a square and place it directly at this point. Since the part has flat angle 90 degrees, then the lines on all sides will exactly repeat the markings made at the very beginning.

If spikes and eyes are chosen as a connection, then you will have to completely mark these elements. The place for the nest should be located strictly in the center. To calculate this data, you simply need to divide the thickness of the bar by 2, and then mark the resulting number from any plane of the part. The size of the tenon itself should be equal to 1/3 of the thickness of the workpiece. The width of the nest can be half a millimeter less than the width of the spike.

The eye should be carefully drilled strictly according to the markings made, and then cleaned with a chisel. You cannot protrude beyond the edges of the lines, otherwise the connection will be weakened and the structure will be fragile. According to the instructions, it is necessary to precisely adjust the tenon joint, so it is imperative to leave a half-millimeter margin.

Assembling the canvas and inserting fittings

When all connections have been checked and the dimensions exactly match those indicated in the drawing, assembly of the door leaf begins. At finger joint you need to apply glue to the surface of the spikes and inner surface nests After this, the parts are inserted into each other, followed by tamping with a mallet. If this procedure is performed with a hammer, then a small wooden block onto the tamped surface. This way you can avoid damage to the assembled product.

After assembling all the parts, there should be no gaps left at the joints. If there are any, then you should knock them out again this place. The ideal option would be to tighten the canvas with webbing. If they are missing, you can install a metal corner on the board, measure the width of the canvas from it, add 3–4 cm to this size and secure another corner. Three boards are needed on which the door is laid. A wedge is inserted into the gap between the canvas bar and the corner and tapped until the cracks completely disappear.

The door is assembled until the cracks disappear

Once the door is assembled, the trim is attached to its surface. First, the sheets are cut to fit the frame and then laid on it. Fastening is done using glue. Additionally, nails can be used. This operation must be performed carefully and carefully so as not to damage the surface of the cladding, especially if it has a finishing coating.

Before laying the second sheet, the filler is installed on the back side of the interior door. To do this, foam plastic or cardboard honeycombs are cut to the size of the free space. internal space between the parts of the canvas. A tight fit will ensure the integrity of the future door. Next, the second sheet of cladding is laid and the canvas gets its finished look.

In order for the door to open, you need to install hinges. They are located at a distance of 20 cm from the edges of the door. The markings are made with a finely sharpened pencil. The nest must be selected with a chisel strictly along the inside of the line, without protruding beyond its limits. The hinges in the seats must fit without gaps. When the socket is ready and checked, the part is fastened using self-tapping screws or the screws included in the kit. Read more about this in the article “Installing hinges on a door.”

Door hinges secured with self-tapping screws or self-tapping screws

Another element of an interior door is the handle. A lock is often inserted into it, which makes it possible to lock the room if necessary.

The hole for the lock is made using a drill

The center of the handle should be 1 meter from the floor. A through hole for the lock is drilled with a drill. Seat also cleaned with a chisel. Once the lock is inserted, there should be no gaps left. Read more about installing a handle on an interior door.

Installing glass in the opening

If the interior door requires glazing, then you need to prepare a glass cutter and select the desired type of glass. This element is inserted into a quarter, which is selected along the entire inner perimeter of the door. The glass is cut 2 mm smaller than the size of its installation space.

Glass cutting is done with a glass cutter

If after working with a glass cutter the sheet has irregularities, they must be removed. You can use pliers for this. If there is a large remainder (from 2 mm), another cutting line should be drawn. This will make it easier and more efficient to remove excess. When the procedure is completed, you need to sand the edges of the glass with sandpaper.

Next, the glass is installed in the quarter of the door. Fastening is done with a decorative layout, which is nailed down with small nails. This makes it possible to carry out quick repair if the installed glass is damaged.

Interior door finishing

The assembled door, if it is not covered with laminated chipboard, needs to be finishing works. They can be of the following types:

  • Coloring;
  • Tinting;
  • Lamination.

Depending on the type of finishing chosen, appropriate operations must be carried out.

Coloring

Before painting the surface of the door leaf, it is necessary to prepare it. And the first thing to do is sand it completely. An electric one is ideal for this purpose. Sander. You need to use a tape that is not too abrasive so that there are no small scratches left on the surface. You need to work in the direction of fiber growth. Perpendicular grinding is allowed only if it is necessary to level the surface and as a rough grind.

Before painting the door, its surface must be sanded.

If there are any chips or dents on the door, they should be filled with putty. The color of the putty must be selected to match the shade of the wood from which the canvas is made. So, during subsequent painting, this place will not stand out from the general background. After applying the putty, you need to let it dry and sand it again.

Wood surface defects can be eliminated using putty.

Next, you need to clean the surface from dust and only then start painting. To apply the material, brushes, rollers or paint sprayers are used. The latter option allows you to get the job done quickly and with minimal paint consumption. There should be no drips on the surface during painting. They need to be removed. To get a quality painted door, you need to apply two or three layers of paint..

The door must be painted in 3 layers

Toning

Unlike painting, door tinting involves the subsequent application of varnish. You need to apply a tinting material to the prepared surface, which can be:

  • Stain;
  • Mordant;
  • Acrylic paint.

Either type of material will give the wood a new color while leaving the grain exposed. The stain is applied with a brush, roller or spray gun. If necessary, repeat the procedure after the material has completely dried.

Wood stains, mordants or paints are used as tinting materials.

When the desired shade is achieved, the canvas is varnished. To achieve a glossy surface, more than three coats should be applied. Moreover, each stage involves sanding with a fine sanding belt. This will remove raised lint and make the surface smooth.

Lamination

An alternative paint and varnish materials is the use of films and veneers. The gluing of these materials is called lamination. For home production the best option will cold method gluing.

The surface of the interior door must be prepared in the same way as in the case of painting or tinting. The film or veneer is cut to the size of the door leaf, making an allowance of up to 3 cm. Then, starting from one edge, the material is glued. If a self-adhesive film is used, then the protective paper is gradually removed from it as it is glued to the surface of the door.

Self-adhesive film used for door lamination

The veneer is applied to glue, which is used to pre-lubricate the canvas. The material should be smoothed from the middle to the edges. This will make it easier to remove air trapped under it. If the bubble cannot be expelled, then it can be carefully pierced with a needle. This place must be pressed firmly so that the adhesive layer can connect the surface of the door and the veneer. Excess material around the edges is carefully trimmed with a knife.

Excess film is removed with a knife

“Why make an interior door if you can go and buy it? - some will ask. — Selection of doors in stores for every taste and color, in any price category. And there’s less hassle.” Everyone has their own reason, for example, a doorway in a room custom size, make to order in Vacation home or it’s expensive and costly to go to the dacha. However, this is not the topic of this article. And the topic is different: how to make an interior door with your own hands.

Let's consider the principle of creating an interior door, or rather a door leaf. It can be used to make both swing and sliding doors.

The interior door is still in such an unfinished state. It needs to be painted, as well as the trim. I’m thinking of using odorless paint, since you can’t really open the windows for ventilation, it’s a little cold. Another advantage of this paint is that it dries quickly, about two hours.

Or rather, not even paint, but universal acrylic enamel. According to manufacturers, such enamel is an environmentally friendly and safe product. Weather resistant, suitable for outdoor and interior work, intended for any surfaces: wood, metal, concrete, brick, plastered, etc. The enamel can be diluted with water, but not more than 5% of the total volume.

Plus or minus, I don’t know, the enamel is glossy, I haven’t come across matte ones anywhere, except for radiators. Wash perfectly, with any detergents, not erased. On a wooden surface it will look like this.

How to make an interior door. Planning.

First of all, of course, we need to plan the dimensions of the future interior door and what material we will make it from. The first thing that comes to mind is a frame door covered with MDF, fiberboard or plywood. Why frame? Firstly, there are no skills to make an interior door from natural wood correctly and efficiently so that it does not fall apart or dry out in the near future. Secondly, there is no special woodworking equipment. In the case of a frame door, neither the first nor the second is needed.

As I already said, the doorway where the door needs to be installed is non-standard. It has dimensions of 79x186 cm. So, the plan of the interior door is in the picture below.

We will need

According to the plan, we cut the timber to the required length. We connect them together with self-tapping screws and fix them with corners for greater strength and stability of the structure.

I immediately burned the side part of the frame, since I initially did not plan to paint the door. I wanted to burn the wooden parts and varnish them. The first photos show a trial version of the opening. But I didn’t like the way the fiberboard looked. Therefore, later I abandoned this idea and decided to paint over everything. Although it is possible to trim the door with veneer. In this way, the appearance and structure of wooden elements - platbands, openings - will be preserved as much as possible.

I also had the idea of using plywood. I went shopping and couldn’t find any sheets of 1.2*2.4; everywhere there were only 1.5*1.5. But the Internet is full of such offers. Apparently in our little town this is not popular, so they don’t sell it, and if they do, it’s only on order in certain quantities. In general, once I paint it, I’ll be sure to post a photo of how it turned out. I hope everything will be great.

We cut the fiberboard sheets and make them a little larger than the frame of the interior door, literally a couple of millimeters. We place them on liquid nails and clamp them with a clamp until they dry completely. There is no need to apply too much glue, as it will come out, which is unsightly.

You can decorate the door with a decorative strip. Available in different patterns (curly, openwork, simple straight, etc.) and sizes.

All that remains is to hang the interior door on its hinges. As you can see, nothing complicated. I look forward to your comments.

If you are wondering: how to make interior doors yourself? Then, either you are an incorrigible needleworker, no life thinker without making anything, or your design ideas are so grandiose and enchanting that among thousands of models of ready-made doors you could not choose the right one. In both cases, it is worth soberly assessing your capabilities, having experience working with wood and carpentry tools, and being prepared for the fact that the door drawn in the sketch in reality will be strikingly different from the drawing.

In the 21st century self-production doors are exotic, akin to weaving bast shoes or baskets from willow twigs. But since there are people who still remember how to do this, it means that there is a need for their skill.

Types of interior doors

You should not overestimate your potential and take on the production of panel doors if you do not have access to professional carpentry equipment. It is impossible to achieve the required precision in manufacturing parts using hand or electric saws, jigsaws, drills and grinders.

It’s easier to make a panel interior door. The manufactured door leaf can be equally suitable for swing doors, and for various options sliding At the same time, you will not be tied to existing size standards in house construction at all and will be able to make doors to fit any doorway, and of any, most intricate shape. At least like a hobbit’s hole – round.

When you have decided on the concept of the future door, you need to take measurements of the doorway in which your masterpiece will be installed.

Required material

To make panel doors you can use the most various materials: wood, plywood, fiberboard, plastic panels, drywall. Moreover, they can be either framed or frameless.

A block of wood that is not the same can be used as a frame. High Quality, the only requirement is that it be dry and have no visible bending along the length or twisting along the axis. Can be used as a filler between facing layers mineral insulation or expanded polystyrene, according to SanPiN requirements, suitable for use in residential premises.

If you want to make a panel frameless interior door, then you will need to calculate required amount lumber by the area of the door leaf and convert the resulting value into cubic meters, since in most stores lumber is sold in cubic meters. It's not difficult to do it yourself.

At standard size An interior door 800x2000 mm has an area of 1,600,000 mm². Standard thickness according to GOST – 40 mm. Multiply 16,000,000 x 40 = 640,000,000 mm³. And since 1 m³ contains 1 billion millimeters, we divide the resulting value 640,000 00: 1,000,000,000 = 0.064 m³.

In a similar way, you can calculate the need for filler.

Necessary tool

The work will require a fairly large number of different tools. It is advisable that you have:

  • Circular saw (option - jigsaw, although smooth saw you will never get it).
  • Electric drill (option: a screwdriver, powerful enough to drill holes and use feather drills for wood).
  • Electric sander - if you are planning to make a glued panel door from solid wood.
  • Hand saw for wood.
  • Set of chisels.
  • Set of feather drills for wood.
  • Screwdriver with replaceable bits.
  • Clamps (4-6 pcs.).
  • Hammer.
  • Mallet.

  • Planer with a blade width of at least 40 mm.
  • Rubber spatula.
  • Paint brushes of various widths.
  • Gun for polyurethane foam.
  • Gun for sealant (acrylic).
  • Measuring tools: level, tape measure, plumbing or carpentry angle, metal ruler 1000 mm.
  • Consumables: screws, nails, anchors, plastic and wooden dowels.

Manufacturing of frame panel doors

A frame panel door implies the presence of a wooden frame that has a contour around the perimeter of the door and several transverse elements connecting the long sides of the door in order to impart rigidity to the structure and the possibility of installing fittings. Usually one additional items located at the level of the future door handle.

Initially, two identical panels are cut exactly to size from plywood (laminate, fiberboard, MDF) exactly to the size of the door. Then two long and three to four short pieces are cut from a block or board. When cutting out workpieces, you should strive to maintain the 90° angle of the transverse elements as accurately as possible, since they must fit tightly across the entire width of the workpiece to the vertical elements without forming gaps. This will affect the geometry of the door and its strength.

The simplest is adhesive connection on furniture spikes (wooden). To do this, drill 2-3-4 holes (depending on the width) from the end of a short (transverse) piece to a depth of ½ the length of the tenon, lubricate them with wood glue and hammer them in with a hammer until they are completely seated in the hole.

Holes are drilled in the same way inside long blanks, at the level of which the horizontal frame parts will be located. To be 100% sure that the holes will match, drilling of all holes is carried out according to a pre-made stencil: which can be made from aluminum corner with a shelf of 40 mm. or any thin sheet metal.

After installing the tenons on both sides into the short (transverse parts), they are laid out on a flat surface, the protruding tenons and ends of the parts are lubricated with glue and the long part is applied to them so that the tenons fit into the drilled holes. Using a mallet, the long part is hammered evenly along its entire length until the tenons are completely immersed in it. The second long part is glued in the same way. After this, it is necessary to use long clamps or a tightening device laminate flooring pull long parts together with as much force as possible.

When gluing, it is not the amount of glue that is important, but the compression force of the parts being glued!

After the glue has dried, first the bottom panel of the skin is glued, then the filler is placed in the voids and also fixed with glue, and the assembly is completed by gluing top sheet. Immediately after this, it is necessary to ensure that the panels being glued are pressed tightly by placing a weight on the door or pulling them with clamps through the placed transverse boards at the bottom and top.

When the glue has dried, the canvas is cleaned with sandpaper to remove any glue drips, the irregularities along the edges of the workpieces are sanded, if necessary, they are primed along the perimeter, wiping out any existing cracks and irregularities using a rubber spatula. After the primer has dried, it is treated again with fine sandpaper and wiped with a damp cloth to remove dust.

The canvas is ready for further finishing with the selected material or for painting.

Assembly of a frameless solid wood door

For such doors, lumber of the required thickness is selected and preferably even in texture, without a large number of knots and defects on the surface. If possible, calibrate by thickness (discrepancy no more than 1 mm). The base is a sheet of plywood or other material. On it, a sheet of lumber sawn along the length is laid out so that it evenly covers the entire surface of the sheet.

The sheet on which the layout was made is smeared over the entire area with wood glue and selected pieces of lumber are laid out on it tightly to each other, while their end sides adjacent to each other are smeared with glue. After all the workpieces have been completely laid out, they must be tightened with clamps or a tie for floor boards (laminate) and a load placed on top, or the boards placed across the door must be tightened with short clamps.

After the glue has dried, the door is processed with a plane along the long side - excess lumber is removed to the required width, then sanded with a grinder to completely equalize any possible differences in the thickness of the lumber blanks.

This results in a door that has a base on one side and a solid wood surface on the other side that can be stored in natural form or also covered with some decorative material.

Doors made of plastic panels

The production of such doors is advisable for rooms with high humidity(baths, toilets, pantries for vegetables and balcony cabinets, etc.

Essentially these are the same frame panel doors, the difference is that the assembled frame must be smaller sizes door frame by 15 -20 mm. This is necessary so that after assembling the covering consisting of plastic panels, it is possible to sheathe the door around the perimeter of the thin wooden slats, which will cover the honeycomb structure of the plastic panels at the ends.

Before installing plastic panels, it is necessary to treat the frame with solutions that prevent the development of mold and, preferably, soak it in hot drying oil.

After installing the panels and nailing the slats around the perimeter. Such doors do not require additional finishing or painting. It will only be necessary to varnish the rail or paint it to match the color of the plastic panels.

Let's sum it up

Homemade interior doors are more of a whim than a necessity. Those rare cases when it is impossible to pick up in a store ready-made option, or order the production of doors according to custom sizes For professionals, this is a reason to change the design concept of the room rather than take on such labor-intensive work with an unpredictable result.

Constructing a wooden door from boards is not a problem for the modern owner. The process will not cause any difficulties, and the cost of a homemade product will be less than purchasing a ready-made structure. To make a door correctly, you need to decide on its type, choose quality material and prepare minimum set tools. Step-by-step technology Making a door from boards is described in the article.

Features of wood doors

The construction market offers a wide range of entrance and interior doors. Despite the appearance modern materials wood products do not lose their popularity when furnishing apartments, country houses, offices and public institutions.

Doors made of wood have a number of undeniable advantages:

  • low sound and thermal conductivity;
  • high frost resistance and good strength;
  • low coefficient of thermal expansion;
  • durability wooden structures with proper preparation and processing of the material;
  • environmental friendliness of wood - such doors fill the home with positive energy and add natural harmony to the house;
  • excellent appearance and the ability to implement unusual design ideas- wooden doors look good in any interior style.

However, wood, as a raw material for making doors, is not without some disadvantages:

  • high hygroscopicity - untreated wood absorbs moisture, which subsequently worsens the physical and mechanical properties of the structure;
  • imperfection of the material - low-quality wood may have resin pockets, cracks or knots;
  • flammability.

The disadvantages of a wooden door are a consequence of poor-quality material and violation of harvesting technologies. To reduce absorption, the boards must be dried, treated with hot steam and special impregnations.

Types of wood doors

Before you understand how to properly make a door from boards, you need to decide on the nuances of the design different types doors and the features of their manufacture.

Massive doors are made from planed or thick tongue-and-groove boards, interconnected into a single sheet. To strengthen the structure, inclined or horizontal jumpers are installed.

When making a solid door, you need to carefully choose the wood. It is better to construct the entrance structure from dense, high-quality material, for example: cedar, oak or larch. These types of wood are distinguished by their dense structure and textured pattern.

If the question is how to make a door to a bathhouse from boards, then you can use less expensive raw materials (pine, spruce, linden). The main condition is treatment with water-repellent and antiseptic agents.

Paneled doors are made from timber and boards obtained by gluing wooden slats. Subsequently, the timber is covered with natural veneer, and the door acquires an aesthetic appearance. Depending on the artist's idea, the panels may have the same or different configuration, some wooden elements are replaced with glass.

High quality paneled doors are practically no different from solid wood construction.

Transverse and vertical elements often made from laminated veneer lumber. To make doors batten the required thickness is well suited for this type of work. The individual structural elements are fastened together with spikes or dowels. When creating a paneled door, you must consider:

  • the strength of the door depends on the number of crosses - the more there are, the more reliable the home-made structure;
  • frames are formed from thick timber, and panel panels are made from MDF, thin boards or wood-imitation plastic;
  • the thickness of the panel, as a rule, is 1/3 of the thickness of the frame made of laminated veneer lumber;
  • fixing panels in frames using natural or veneered beads.

Panel doors are thin, so they are usually installed between rooms.

Panel doors- a budget option, made from inexpensive materials - fiberboard, lined with laminate or veneer. The panel structure is a frame made of boards and internal filling (shield). Used as a shield chipboard sheets, fiberboard, thick cardboard or MDF.

In turn, panel doors are classified into three types:

  1. Solid structures are completely filled with edged or uncut timber, fastened together.
  2. Hollow doors consist of cross and side bars. The frame is covered with clapboard, fiberboard or other material. Vertical and horizontal cross members can be installed inside the structure.
  3. Small hollow door leaves have different degrees of filling.

Advice. To create a high-quality panel door, the frame is covered with plywood made of alder or linden. The thickness of the cladding is 4-8 mm (two layers of 24 mm each). This material does not deform and is a good basis for decorative finishing.

Choosing wood for making doors

The first stage in the manufacture of an entrance or interior door is the selection of suitable lumber. You need to assess your own financial capabilities, decide on the type of wood and select the material from which to make the doors. Wooden boards must meet the following requirements:

  • the wood should not have knots, at least there should be very few of them;
  • the residual moisture content of raw materials for making doors should be about 12-15% - it is better to choose material that has been dried in a special chamber; such drying guarantees the strength of the wood and resistance to deformation;
  • evenness of the boards - before purchasing, the material must be laid on a flat surface and checked for tightness on the sides;
  • thickness wooden planks for the manufacture of doors depends on the location of its installation - for the entrance structure, 5 cm is optimal, for an interior door, wood with a thickness of 2.5 cm is suitable;
  • Before use, the boards must be sanded with sandpaper or a sander.

Both coniferous and deciduous wood are suitable for work. Front doors are often made of oak and beech. For interior models Pine will do. The resin content of conifers protects the wood from rotting and fungal diseases.

When settling in summer cottage You can save on material and not spend money on purchasing wood to make a door. The boards from a barn or other structure that is being demolished are quite suitable for the job. The main thing is to check them for defects and mold.

How to make a door from boards: step-by-step instructions

Let's take a closer look at how to make a door from boards yourself. The basis of any massive door is a plank panel, which must be correctly assembled and securely fastened. Fencing made of solid board installed between rooms, at the entrance to a bathhouse, house or utility unit. Of course, in different cases The appearance of the product will vary.

Required tools and materials

Work begins after preparing a set of tools and procuring the necessary materials. It is advisable to have a stable table-workbench on which the elements will be assembled into a single piece.

Tools you will need:

  • manual milling cutter for creating grooves, holes, grinding surfaces, leveling corners, etc.;
  • hacksaw;
  • a plane for grinding and leveling the door at the ends;
  • chisels of different sizes;
  • regular and rubber hammer;
  • building level, pencil, tape measure, meter;
  • sanding machine or sandpaper;
  • screwdriver

Materials and consumables you will need:

  • tongue-and-groove boards - the choice of thickness and width depends on the purpose of the door structure, as well as its design;
  • self-tapping screws of various lengths;
  • wood glue.

It is advisable to dry the purchased wood additionally. Even if the material appears ready for use, it is better to be safe. Each board should be laid on a spacer - they should not touch each other. This is necessary so that moisture can freely escape from the wood fibers. If the boards are not dried enough, mold may form and ruin the finished product.

Drying time at a temperature of +25°C takes about one to two months. The room where the wood is located must be well ventilated.

Important! When using a special chamber for drying, the temperature must not exceed +50°C. Otherwise, the resin from coniferous wood will leak out and the material will partially lose its strength.

Manufacturing of door leaf

Let's look at step by step how to make a door from a tongue and groove board:

Decorating a massive door

The next step is processing and decorating the door leaf. The work is performed in the following order:

  1. Treat the surface with sandpaper or a grinder.
  2. Impregnate the wood with an antiseptic. Apply the first layer and leave until completely dry. Repeat processing. Antiseptic impregnation will protect the door from damage by harmful microorganisms and rotting.
  3. Cover the canvas with putty - this layer will hide minor irregularities. Putty can be replaced with a primer. In this case, it is necessary to treat the door twice, allowing each layer to dry completely. The primer usually dries within one day.
  4. The finishing of the door is done with varnish, stain or paint. desired color. The stain is applied to the primed surface. The number of layers depends on how rich and intense the shade should be. Each layer should dry for about 4 hours. To consolidate the result, apply two layers of varnish over the stain.

Important! Entrance door it is necessary to treat not only with an antiseptic, but also with a water-repellent composition. When creating an entrance structure for an apartment, it is advisable to cover the canvas with flame retardants.

It is better to entrust more complex decoration options (carving, milling, stenciling, mosaics) to experienced craftsmen.

Door installation

Door leaf installation sequence:

  1. Align the vertical and horizontal walls of the doorway.
  2. Assemble the door frame according to the dimensions of the opening and check the evenness of its installation. The finished structure must be rigid and durable.
  3. Try the canvas to the opening. If necessary, adjust the dimensions of the product.
  4. Secure the door structure in the opening, fixing the individual sides of the frame in the opening with long self-tapping screws. The heads of the fasteners are sunk into the material and closed with plugs that match the color.
  5. “Foam” the gaps between the door frame and the walls. Collect cash items.
  6. Prepare the canvas for installation. Mount the handle, hinges and embed the lock. On finished shield apply markings to place hanging hinges. It is optimal to install the hinges if they are flush with the end side of the door leaf.
  7. On door frame mark the installation locations for hinged hinges and the location for the locking tab. Make corresponding grooves according to the marks.
  8. Hang the canvas on the hinges and adjust the structure. In order for the locking tab to fit into the box, the counter plate must be secured.
