Interior design in loft style - step-by-step implementation. Loft style in the interior: brutal and stylish design that gives maximum comfort (photo) Loft style in the interior ideas

Appearing relatively recently, loft-style design has already become part of modern, stylish interior solutions. Do you want to update your apartment or house in this style, but don’t know how? We will tell you about all the nuances of finishing, decor, textiles. We’ll also take a closer look at the example of each room on what exactly to focus on. The simplicity of the loft has no limits for any design.

Loft style design for an apartment

The main feature of the style is its versatility. Loft style can be seen both in small one-room apartments and in spacious three-ruble apartments, country houses, studio apartments and even offices.

The loft has become widespread in the field of interior design due to its excellent functionality (minimum furniture and accessories - maximum space). At the same time, the colors in the design directly depend on the direction of the loft style (bohemian, industrial or glamorous).

Among experienced designers it received the definition of industrial-urban interior style, and for good reason. Visually, such an apartment may resemble basement, wine cellar, attic, industrial building due to the finishing features.

Huge window openings, walls covered with simple plaster or lined with brick, open communications, beams - all this is a loft-style design for an apartment. Besides this, there are many other important characteristics, which should be followed to make your home as similar as possible to a loft apartment:

  • Openness of space – a feature of such apartments is the absence interior doors, thanks to this move, the living space visually increases. Of course, this rule does not apply to the bathroom. It should just be disguised, for example, as brick wall. The same applies to the bedroom.
  • Undisguised auxiliary structures (open bookshelves, cabinets, fireplaces, etc.).
  • Walls that are the color of brick or rough plaster. To finish surfaces, you can use natural stone, brick, paint or wallpaper with an imitation of a brick wall.

Urban, filled with charm, the loft style is often used in the interior of apartments with a small area and studios. And the interior decoration will directly depend on the area, preferences in colors and materials.

Variety of directions

The world first heard about the loft in the 50s, when the United States and then Europe experienced a terrible crisis. Plants and factories ceased their operations, and empty premises were converted and turned into residential apartments. Translated from English language the word loft means: attic, top floor of a warehouse, attic, etc.

If earlier such apartments really resembled a factory workshop or a carpentry workshop, now loft-style design has improved. Designers use many directions. All of them allow us to emphasize the courage of the owners of a loft-style apartment.

A loft helps to harmoniously combine concrete floors, peeling wooden flooring, somewhat sloppy brick or plastered walls with modern appliances, furniture, and decorative elements. Conventionally, interior designers of our time divide loft into several main areas.

1 – looks like an old factory building, furnished with taste. In such an interior, everything is imbued with creativity: shabby furniture, sometimes as if picked up from a city dump, organically coexists with new design solutions and modern technical filling. Avant-garde paintings, sculptures, and musical instruments, arranged in any form, are selected as decorative elements.

2 – features an unusual, non-traditional color scheme for the style. For example, a combination of pastel and spectral, saturated tones (white-lilac, white-brown, etc.). Considerable attention should be paid to the decor of the apartment in the glamorous Loft style, the main highlight of which will be antique mirror surfaces, carpets in the shape of the skin of a killed bear, large house plants, antique chandeliers, floor lamps and other similar elements.

3 – a common style for apartment interiors. It is characterized by a light-colored finish. Furniture must match the design of the industrial premises. It could be metal structures, open ventilation and wiring, furniture of regular geometric shapes.

Loft-style design is ideal for people who value space, natural light and simplicity in the interior. Of course, in some cases, redevelopment may be required to increase the space and remove unnecessary partitions, but adding several elements in the attic loft style will work in almost any apartment.

Wall decoration

The loft style is truly unique. Typical wall decoration is concrete, plaster or brick of various textures and light colors.

It is important that load-bearing walls were massive, both in production and warehouse.

You should not remove absolutely all partitions, because they will be useful for zoning, fencing off personal space (bedroom, bathroom, restroom) or creating utility rooms. Such utility rooms will help “unload” the interior.

For zoning apartments they are often used interior partitions made of glass blocks, in the form of shelves under the ceiling or a sliding screen. If we are talking about small apartment or studio, then you can delimit the space using furniture (bar counter for the kitchen, etc.) or flooring, changing its color, material, texture.

If we talk about painting walls in a loft style, then they should not be too bright and catchy. This will highlight the note of pristine industrial in the design. loft style. Perfect for this:

  • plaster;
  • water-based paint in pastel colors;
  • brick;
  • natural or artificial stone;
  • concrete;
  • decorative brickwork (budgetary and stylish);
  • wallpaper imitating brick or stone wall.

Flooring

In production, factory floors, and warehouses, we are used to seeing concrete floors. Of course, concrete perfectly reflects the loft style. Its disadvantage is the impracticality of the coating and the cold emanating from it, which is not at all suitable for a living space.

Other materials that match the design in the loft style will be an excellent replacement for concrete flooring:

  • Mosaic concrete.
  • Natural wood or laminate imitating plank flooring.
  • Parquet board.
  • Ceramic tiles, suitable for the bathroom or kitchen.
  • Natural, artificial stone, marble.

Carpet runners with discreet patterns or plain ones would also look appropriate.

Tiles imitating concrete - more practical

The loft style often uses combined flooring (tiles and laminate, wood and stone). This helps to diversify the interior and divide any living space into zones.

Ceiling and windows

If your apartment has high ceilings, then you should use already rooted materials for their finishing:

  • tree;
  • wooden beams;
  • large ventilation pipes;

If the ceilings in the apartment are low, then you can limit yourself to plastering or painting the ceiling in white or any other light shade.

As for windows, they should be as high and wide as possible. The more natural light gets into the house, the better! An excellent choice would be floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of a beautiful landscape, which corresponds to an American loft.

Advice

To increase the amount of sunlight entering your home, you should abandon blackout curtains, limit yourself to sheer curtains, or refrain from using them altogether. You can highlight the design using cotton roller blinds, for example, vertical or horizontal blinds.

Loft style decor

Any loft-style room should not be too overloaded. There is no need to use a lot of bright decorative elements. The following will help highlight your unique design:

Don't use a lot of bright decorative elements

In the last century, the owners of loft-style apartments were mainly writers or artists, so it is better to arrange decorative elements chaotically to create a feeling of creative disorder.

Advice

Use various design objects, this will help highlight the uniqueness of the loft-style interior, unite the zones in the apartment, and add integrity and liveliness to the appearance of the apartment.

What should the lighting be like?

Dividing a loft-style apartment into zones is the main task of any interior designer or owner of such a house. Lighting fixtures can be used as a zoning tool. The more varied they are, the better.

What lighting fixtures should be used in an apartment with a loft design:

1 Massive chandeliers. Gray plaster, cold concrete, untreated brick - a chandelier will help add warmth to such a room and emphasize the loft style. This is a chandelier with a metal frame and a lampshade made of glass elements. It is suitable for lighting a living room, dining room or spacious hall.

2 Pendant lamps– multifunctional and most frequently used lighting devices. Many owners of loft-style apartments use designs with wires and chains, which allows them to adjust the location.

3 Floor lamps– will add coziness to a loft-style apartment. For lighting country house or a spacious apartment, choose large floor lamps with an unusual silhouette and large lampshade. For example, spotlights for stages, railway tracks, studios.

4. Such devices are suitable for small apartments or studio apartments in the loft style. Bright lighting will visually expand the space, add volume to it and focus on zones.

If you often work at a desk or computer desk, and the main lighting is not enough for full work, then you should take care of an additional light source. A simple metal table lamp on a flexible leg can complement the design.

Kitchen

Most often, a little space is allocated for the kitchen in an apartment with a loft-style design, especially when it comes to a studio or one-room apartment. . The decoration of a loft-style kitchen is no different from the rest of the room - wood, brick, etc.

As for furniture, glass products with chrome elements or metal parts would be appropriate. Modern appliances should occupy a central place in the kitchen:

  • large refrigerator;
  • dishwasher;
  • oven;
  • microwave;
  • coffee machine and other equipment.

There should not be a lot of kitchen furniture. It is better to furnish a kitchen in a loft style in the spirit of minimalism. An exquisite antique table, buffet or set of carved wooden chairs will become a bright note.

Furniture facades and appliance doors made in the same style or from a similar material will help harmonize the kitchen space.

Living room

If you have chosen a loft-style design for your living room, then you should learn how to place accents correctly. The focus should be on windows, furniture and decoration. Window openings should be large; shabby antique wooden frames will look harmonious in the interior.

The central position in the living room will be occupied by a sofa made of thick fabric or genuine leather. The area for relaxing and receiving guests can be supplemented with a small coffee table made of wood or glass, poufs, and armchairs.

Advice

To place decorative elements or books, it is better to use racks with open shelves.

Avoid any clutter: place decor on cabinet shelves, hang paintings and photos on the walls.

Bedroom

In any home, the most secluded place is the bedroom, so the loft style allows you to enclose it with walls, veiled doors or opaque sliding partitions. If your apartment has high ceilings, then you can arrange a bedroom on the second floor.

Features of the design and decoration of a loft-style bedroom:

  • To paint the walls, use plain, light shades. Choosing these colors will make the room brighter and more comfortable.
  • To make the bedroom match the style, leave one of the walls untreated.
  • A small electric fireplace will help dilute the severity of the urban loft style.
  • A mirrored wardrobe or a dressing room with glossy glass will help to increase the space of the bedroom and add a little light to it. sliding doors, large dressing table with mirror.

Don't forget about decor, which adds liveliness to any room. Decorate your bed with beautiful decorative pillows, and the floors are filled with large vases of flowers or massive pots of plants. It is impossible for the selected decorative elements to stand out from the general loft style.

Advice

If the bathroom or bathroom is located next to the bedroom, then you can separate it using a glass partition. Different flooring will also help separate the zones, for example, laminate in the bedroom and tiles in the bathroom.

Bathroom

When decorating a bathroom in a loft style, you can resort to various directions stylistics, combining eclecticism and high-tech, bohemian and industrial.

What plumbing fixtures and furniture will look harmonious in the interior of a bathroom with a loft design:

We must not forget about the technical equipment, because the bathroom of a modern apartment cannot be imagined without washing machine. Regarding the decoration of the walls, then select light-colored tiles like marble or other natural stone. Use tiles or granite for flooring.

Hallway

Often the corridors in apartments in multi-storey buildings are small, so by using light-colored walls and floors you can visually expand the space.

The hallway should be well lit, use LED backlight, floor lamps or a large chandelier with several bulbs. Despite the fact that a loft-style room should be open, it is better to furnish the corridor with a mirrored wardrobe for outerwear or use a hidden niche for storing things and training. A vintage chest of drawers or a large full-length floor mirror would be a harmonious addition.

Studio apartment

The space of studio apartments should be used especially rationally, so the best design solution would be the loft style, which involves minimalism in furniture and decor.

Design of a studio apartment in loft style:

No partitions. In such apartments the kitchen is from main room often separated by a bar counter or dining table. Openness will visually expand the space and make the room brighter. The racks look beautiful, smoothly blending into the brickwork of the wall. Thanks to this design move, a unified style is created. A suitable addition to a small table made of glass or metal would be wooden chairs, folding stools or bar stools.

    Minimum set of furniture - studio apartments often cannot boast of a large area, so you should refrain from bulky walls and huge sofas. Choose a simple, solid-colored pullout sofa that can be placed against the wall or partition separating the guest room from the kitchen. A small angular coffee table, a bean bag chair, or a soft pouf would look appropriate.

    The hallway should be made in warm colors with imitation brickwork made of decorative bricks. Limit yourself to simple furniture. A small ottoman for putting on shoes, a modest wooden shoe shelf, mirrored wardrobe or built-in storage for clothes with a mirror will be quite enough.

    If your studio apartment has high ceilings, then you can allocate an upper tier for the bedroom. Select decor for the bedroom and other loft-style rooms based on your preferences. The main thing is that it is not too bright and unnecessary. For textiles in the bedroom, use only a matching bedspread and a small bedside rug.

The means of ascending to the second floor of a loft-style apartment (if there is one) is a comfortable staircase with glass, metal or glossy railings and sides. Try to stick to light colors in its decoration so that they match the decoration of the lower and upper floors.

Of course, the bathroom should be separated from the other part of the loft-style studio apartment.

Advice

Leave one wall untreated to preserve the style, the rest can be finished decorative stone or tiles.

In a small bathroom, you shouldn’t go overboard with the plumbing. A toilet, an unusual washbasin with shiny taps, a white or bronze claw-foot bathtub will be enough to create the effect of antiquity.

Country house in loft style

Decorating the interior of a country house in a loft style is much easier than implementing an eclectic design in a small apartment. Large, spacious rooms, several floors, the possibility of finishing the facade - an ideal space to convey the atmosphere of an old factory workshop, warehouse or attic.

If you are looking for what a loft is, you have probably already come across information about the history of this term or name. We read about the mid-20th century in New York and found out something about “the upper part of an industrial building converted for housing.” Of course, this is all true; “loft” is generally translated from English as “attic”.

But we will talk about a slightly different meaning of this word - about a loft in a country house.

One of the options for implementing a loft in a private house, loft area ~12 m2

A loft can be called a small half-floor located above part of a one-story house. This is a balcony inside the house, roughly speaking. It is also called the “sleeping mezzanine” or simply the “mezzanine floor”.

It's difficult to explain in words, it's easier to show a few examples. So, in the picture above you see a frame kitchen-living room. This is a one-story house with gable roof and a high ceiling in the living room area. In the rest of the house, the ceiling has the usual height, and the same loft is located upstairs.

Let's stand with our backs to the loft and look towards the windows:

The high ceiling in the kitchen-living room is a second light, and a loft is located above the camera

High ceiling and similar high windows usually called . It’s as if there are two floors without overlap, which gives a kind of wow effect, increases the volume of the room, makes it bright. And this brings us to a simple conclusion:

Loft is inextricably linked with second light

Yes, in relation to the concept of a loft in a country house, you cannot do without a second light. At the same time, one cannot say the opposite, because a second light without a loft is quite possible - no one is forcing you to do it.

What's the idea here? And it’s all very simple: we have a house with a large living room, where such a high ceiling is very appropriate and beautiful. And a couple of bedrooms that don't need a lot of height. So why not put the space above your bedrooms to good use? So, instead of a cold attic, you get a cozy loft. This is relevant, as a rule, either in houses with a small area, or in houses with more complex architecture, where one part is high and the other part is simple, one-story.

In general, sometimes the line between a loft and the second floor is quite thin, because if the house is large and there are many rooms, then there may be a living room with a high ceiling, and a full two-story part. For example, like in a house:

This is no longer a loft, but an ordinary (well, not even ordinary at all, in fact) two-story house with second attic floor and kitchen-living room with second light. This is an example to understand the difference, now let's get back to the lofts.

The loft is usually not walled off

A distinctive feature of a loft is that most often it is fenced with simple railings rather than a blank wall. To illustrate this statement, let’s return to Smolyachkovo again, although there is a photo of the intermediate stage, but I think this is not so important:

I’ll show you another example of a loft, although it’s completely atypical, teetering on the verge of gaining the right to be called the second floor :)

Again, a living room with a high ceiling = second light, but it is oriented differently, in the middle of the house, the ceiling goes along the rafters and there are skylights, and a giant loft extends over the rest of the house. Probably not the best good example, still an extreme. Because usually a loft is needed only for...

Why do you even need a loft in your house?

In their “classic” form, lofts, like small “balconies” above the living room, are popular in guest houses and serve to accommodate additional beds.

The loft above the kitchen of the house in Vaskelovo will have a spiral staircase. Area ~20 m2

Simply put, guests are accommodated there :) Of course, you can use this additional space to your taste - equip a workplace, a library, a chill-out area with hookahs and pillows (which, by the way, is planned in Vyborg), whatever your imagination allows.

It turns out that the loft kills two birds with one stone: it gives you a cool high ceiling in the living room and extra space.

How to get there?

For a loft, of course, you need a staircase.

It could be compact solution in the form of an elegant spiral staircase, or a full staircase leading upstairs directly from the living room or, for example, from the hallway.

Unfortunately, I have only three photographs of the spiral staircase, and even then only during the installation process:

The staircase is beautiful, but not the most comfortable; it’s not suitable for a full second floor. But the loft is not the second floor, it is used in a completely different way and such a solution can be considered.

As you can see, everything is fine above. Moreover, additional heating is not provided in a regular loft, warm air rises from the living room.

A similar question was asked to the owner of a house with a loft; I will quote his response letter:

About the loft. With a normal heating and ventilation system (like mine, with a recuperator), there is no difference. By definition, it cannot be cold there - after all, it is very open to the general volume, and heat goes up according to the laws of physics. It goes very slowly, because... heated floors, not radiators - therefore there is a very small difference in the temperature of the air and the heat source (floor). It can be rather hot in summer. But I repeat again: if there is good ventilation, there should be no problems. And the thermal insulation is 250 mm, i.e. the heat cannot penetrate into the house. Neither through the walls-roof, nor through the air flow. The house is always the temperature you want. And it’s the same everywhere.

Summary: when correct system heating and ventilation, you get an extra 20 square meters and architectural delights for free. Excellent + for a children's or guest bedroom. The only thing is: if they are yelling downstairs, it is impossible to sleep there. Yes, and running up the stairs - I am a principled opponent. But 1 time in the morning and 1 time in the evening, even I agree.

Instead of a conclusion

Is it worth making a loft in your home? It's up to you to decide.

But if you want a one-story house with a truly beautiful living room, it’s time to think about a second light. And where there is second light, there is loft;)

Loft style interior design is the most popular style today, especially among young and creative people.

The main difference between the style is the use of concrete, brick, glass and metal in combination with designer furniture. In essence, the loft style is a style from the masculine element, since it contains elements of brutality, a certain rudeness and strength.

Contents of the article:

Like any style, the loft also has its own history.The word itself means “attic” and already speaks of its origin.

During the recession years in America, an urban revitalization program emerged, during which old factory buildings, railroad warehouses, schools and factories began to be converted into housing.

They were populated mainly by people of creative professions, adding their own original touch to these dull, abandoned premises. This is how the loft appeared.

That's why traditional loft looks rather uncomfortable and adheres to certain rules:

  1. Rough walls (unpolished cement, brick).
  2. Homogeneity and mutedness color range(gloomy gray, brick, dull brown).
  3. Nude communications combined with bright art objects.
  4. And all this in an open space with a minimum number of partitions.

However modern loft can afford more neat and aesthetically attractive brickwork, a more processed wall texture next to modern materials (glass, steel).

In addition, such a design will no longer look “abandoned”, which means it will have a positive effect on mood and health.

Here's a great one example small and cozy cafe in this style.

Surprisingly, a loft can be very cozy!

If you want your interior to look more modern, then you need to include as many modern materials as possible (glass, steel) in contrast with the restored texture of the materials (restored parquet, slightly tidied up brick wall).

Two keys to a successful interior in the loft style - creating a maximum feeling of spaciousness and a mixture of old and new (contrast of abandonment and well-groomed).

Interior design in loft style: key features

To implement loft design in the interior of your apartment, you must adhere to characteristic features style:

Materials and styling in a loft interior

Let us consider in detail the use of materials in the interior.

Floor:

If you want the interior to be more comfortable, you can use parquet or parquet boards. However, if you still have old parquet– don’t remove it, it would be better to restore it as a loft.

Walls:

  • decorative plaster for concrete (cold colors: shades of gray, blue or marsh colors),
  • brickwork (the more natural the brick looks, the better it will be to convey the loft-style atmosphere).
  • white matte emulsion
  • mosaic plain tiles

Note:

  • if you want to use the loft style in the interior of a small apartment, then you need to use smaller bricks or even paint it. There are brick options that have a slight metallic sheen.
  • When choosing, avoid a perfectly flat and smooth brick surface.

Ceiling

Ceilings can be a dazzling white to give the space a feeling of spaciousness and light.

Furniture and textiles in loft style interior design

Since a loft should combine “abandonment” and a creative touch (after all warehouses often inhabited by people of art), then furniture and textiles will become the means of expressing this creativity.

The most important thing is to achieve a contrast between the general “shabbyness” and abandonment and the elite shockingness of textiles and furniture.

What then can textiles be? Expressive, bright and even flashy.

If you have an open floor plan and a lot of free space, then you need to create “focal spots” to avoid the impression of boredom and emptiness from the interior. Such stains can create fabrics with large, expressive patterns.

In this youth interior Quite a lot of such “stains” are visible: carpet, sofa, armchairs. A painting and an art object on the wall are also bright details, but this is no longer about textiles.

The most important thing to pay attention to is texture and color:

The main thing is to be able to combine the rough and harsh with the flashy and shiny.

Regarding furniture, then it is important that its dimensions fit the dimensions of the room. In the same way, as already said about the fabric pattern, it should be proportionate to the room. Agree, a small sofa in a huge space will simply get lost.

But if you put brutal leather sofa, then it will fit harmoniously into the interior, but will not create contrast. However, the total amount of furniture in this style is minimal.

Decor and accessories in loft interior design

Windows, as a rule, should merge with common interior. For example, they can be painted to match the color of the walls, the main thing is that they do not stand out. The window decoration is laconic and clear: white cotton roller blinds, blinds wooden planks or lifting steel ones.

Skirting boards Usually they are painted either in the color of the floor covering or in the color of the walls.

As decor It would be appropriate to use various art objects, art objects and designer furniture. For example, you can install an avant-garde installation or a large lamp on the floor. The highlight of your interior can be a pop art painting or your own photograph in this style.

This lamp reflects the idea of a loft - the use of industrial materials in the interior.

Loft style color scheme

The color scheme in the loft style is not quite clear, as it might seem at first glance. It is important to determine what impression you want from the interior: urban graphic aesthetics or a brighter and more expressive design solution. How to divide residential areas?

Usually the question of zoning in this style remains open. A loft apartment is an open space, but only the bedrooms, bathrooms and utility rooms are isolated. For the rest, zoning techniques are used.

So, you can zone the space using:

Furniture is also a subject of zoning. For example, 2 chairs share dining area from residential. note that different color walls near these zones + also helps create the illusion of zoning.

Who is the loft style suitable for?

  • For young, creative people who are ready to turn their home into an art space.
  • For owners of apartments with an open plan
  • For those who have no need for privacy

The difficulty of interior design in the loft style is to create a completely suitable cozy space for living, which at first glance seems uncomfortable. Remember, if you can create such an impression, the loft is a success!

When thinking about the design and decoration of a home, many owners today are faced with a huge selection of options. The presence of many ideas and styles really makes you rack your brain, and there is often not enough money to realize the desired result. In this case, designers recommend choosing the “well-forgotten old”, which is rapidly coming back into fashion.

An excellent choice would be to decorate the interior of a house in a loft style.

Features and Characteristics

This is not to say that the loft is an absolute novelty in the world of interior design. This style originated in America back in the 50s. The lack of premises and new buildings forced the creative part of the population to set up their studios directly in the attic or in industrial buildings. In order to somehow give the room a residential look, the owners went to all sorts of tricks, purchasing beautiful furniture and decorations. It was this incredible combination that gave birth to a new direction, which is recognized as one of the most fashionable today.

Loft style is a combination of negligence and subtle taste, allowing you to think through to the smallest detail how the house will look. The distinctive features of the direction are, first of all, large spaces and clear geometric shapes. You won’t find many doorways and partitions here, because the hallmark of “loft” is space and freedom. Additionally, it is worth noting large windows allowing natural light to flood the room.

Decorating a country house in a loft style is an ideal solution for a creative and unusual person. However, professionals recommend immediately paying attention to all the subtleties and thinking in advance about the location of various zones in your future home. It would also be useful to take into account the size of the house - with the right approach, even a one-story building will look impressive private house, and a two-story small cottage.

Implying an abundance of space, the loft style will be appropriate in original mini-houses who confidently occupy their niche in the real estate market. Such premises are also called “domillions”, and sometimes they have 1.5 floors. Thanks to the practical layout, all areas of such a house can be used as efficiently as possible if it is decorated in a loft style. Choose simple forms without overloading the façade of the house with unnecessary details.

Frame houses also good for experimentation. Firstly, such a house is built very quickly, and its construction does not break the bank. Secondly, when attracting good specialist the house will last a long time and will delight the owner with its durability. It is worth considering that it will be impossible to redesign it, therefore, if you decide to decorate your home in the loft style, the internal layout must be done right away. A good idea would be a frame country house, perfectly suited for relaxation at any time of the year.

Small wooden buildings perfectly convey the characteristic features of the direction. You can use logs to decorate the outer part, because the slightly rough and uncouth look, coupled with the correctness of the lines, instantly attracts attention. The same can be said about rooms designed in the eco-loft trend. High ceilings, spacious interior space, the possibility of adding a second floor will satisfy even the most demanding owners.

Interior decoration

Decorating the inside of a house yourself is not a problem, and you don’t have to resort to the help of a designer. First of all, attention should be paid to effective zoning of space so that each room is as functional as possible. It must be remembered that when choosing a loft style, you cannot arrange only one room in accordance with this trend.

Bedroom

To this day, debate continues about how exactly to decorate the bedroom ceiling. Some designers propose sloping, uneven ceilings to enhance the look of an attic space. Others like a high, flat top in cool gray or metallic tones. Both of these options look quite original, and each of them emphasizes the spirit of the direction. For walls, choose faux-worn textures or decorative brick-like tiles.

The flooring in the bedroom should also meet style standards. Rough parquet boards, gray laminate, or parquet in the color of wet asphalt will look good. Having opted for wooden covering, keep in mind that it should look as if it had aged a long time, but was later in the hands of an experienced craftsman.

The bed is the main component of the bedroom, and there is nothing wrong with purchasing a slightly fussy model. It is advisable to buy a dark bedspread, without patterns or decorative elements. You can place bedside tables next to the bed, which with their simplicity will create a bright contrast with the sleeping area. Be sure to take care of the lighting - several wall lamps or a cozy floor lamp will be just right. The interior will be complemented by modular paintings with abstract images and several small rugs with patterns.

Mirror and chrome surfaces will look good in the bedroom interior. This could be an original wardrobe with mirrored doors or a metal table. A rather interesting idea would be to separate the bedroom from the living room using glass partition. Also, do not forget about the importance of natural light - install large windows that will not need curtains and curtains.

Kitchen

Country private houses are simply impossible to imagine without stylish kitchen. Its design should be practical and at the same time avant-garde. The loft direction does not imply planning the kitchen as a separate room; the bar counter separating the kitchen and living room looks much more impressive. There is not much space for culinary experiments, since in this style the kitchen serves only as an “island” where you can quickly prepare food. However, you should approach its design wisely.

It is best to use red brick for wall decoration in the kitchen area. This will subsequently create a unique contrast with iridescent silver and chrome surfaces and equipment. Dishes should be modern and sparkling. The same goes for the stove and refrigerator.

The concept of style will not be violated if you prefer wood to brick. Wooden walls or surfaces need to be combined with the most fashionable new appliances and cutlery. Glass and chrome elements will be a beautiful addition to such a kitchen. The table can be selected from either wood or glass, and chairs can be chosen to match it in style. Strict flower pots, ultra-modern sconces, small modular paintings, and blinds will look good.

Children's

Many people often associate a loft with brick and concrete elements, but it’s worth noting right away that Warmer colors will look better in a children's room:

  • The basic component can be standard wall painting in white, beige and pastel colors. This will help visually expand the room and give it a light and airy look.
  • Be sure to take care of bright accents: a bedspread, rug, blanket, toys, paintings and photographs.
  • Boys may like red, brown, gray and blue tones, and for girls it is better to choose crimson, turquoise, pink, bright yellow colors.

Bed - another one important element children's room. The most original option is frame or made from “ metal pipes» model. Such products are equally suitable for both boys and girls. If there are two children in the room, a bunk loft bed that meets style standards would be an excellent choice. Bed linen will brighten up the decor if you purchase warm yellow, ivory, or pinkish models.

Speaking about lighting, you should immediately pay attention to the fact that many children do not like bright, blinding light.

  • Soft classic lamps or chandeliers with a minimalist theme are suitable for the loft style.
  • Look beautiful hanging chandeliers on chains with crystal pendants, as well as with built-in fans.
  • You can complement the room with cozy floor lamps or wall sconces.

Don't forget about sufficient lighting in the play and study areas. Unusual design easy to achieve by placing large glowing letters or stars on the walls.

As for the decor of the room, here the imagination of interior designers has gone far ahead. Almost everything is appropriate, from vintage posters to decorative bicycles, treasure chests and hanging swings in play area. A good option would be to add retro elements to the overall style of the room, for example, posters or collectible cars. Creative children will be very happy with large easels for drawing.

Hallway

The loft style itself does not include the concept of a hallway, since a solid and voluminous space is a characteristic feature of the style. However, in a modern apartment you cannot do without a place where you can leave shoes or outerwear, so you need to arrange a small corner for these purposes. It is best to decorate the hallway in light colors to make it seem larger. But accessories can be of different shades.

The most common are:

  • Reds.
  • Silvery.
  • Blue.
  • Brown.
  • Dark gray.

For lighting, choose fluorescent lamps. Ceiling spotlights will also look good.

Brickwork– one of the fundamental principles of the loft style and will be an excellent option for hallways of different sizes. If it is not possible to make real masonry, you can replace it with tiles or wallpaper of a similar design. An abundance of mirrors will also help to visually enlarge the space; for example, it would be appropriate to make one wall completely mirrored. The standard color of the ceiling is white or light gray, and it should look as if the renovation had just been completed. A plasterboard suspended ceiling will also work.

Thanks to the openness and space of the loft direction, buying a massive and spacious wardrobe is not best idea. You will have to store things and household supplies in another place, but an abundance of open shelves and hangers will be very useful. An original solution would be a shelf under the ceiling, reminiscent of the well-known luggage compartments on trains. Shoes can be placed on the floor or on open shelves. And to store it, special bedside tables are used, the design of which resembles large cardboard boxes.

Of the accessories, first of all, you should take care of the mirror. This element can be of any shape: with a wide decorative frame or completely without it. Illuminated mirrors would be a good idea. Choose other accessories so that guests can plunge into the industrial era. Exit signs, red arrows, emergency lights, a bicycle in the form of a hanger - all this will help emphasize the uniqueness of the style.

What is a loft? Is this an exception to the rule, breaking stereotypes, unwillingness to obey generally accepted laws? Probably everything together. Resistance to imposed dress codes, shapes and sizes. This style is acceptable for those who are on the gray concrete wall sees an extraordinary space for those who know how to inhabit a non-residential space, create comfort with the help of retro devices and an undisguised pipeline. A loft-style house is housing that gives a feeling of freedom.

The word “loft” refers to the upper floors of industrial premises, converted into housing or offices. To understand, or rather to feel the essence and distinctive features style, it is worth turning to its origin.

The loft genre has American roots. Due to the prevailing unfavorable economic circumstances, the owners of factories located in the center of New York began to move production out of the city, and rented out the vacated premises at affordable prices for art workshops.

Without changing the design conditions, the owners of the workshops inhabited the rooms, chaotically filling them with furniture, household items, arranging work corners, places of rest and living. This is how the loft style design appeared.

Tall, spacious rooms began to attract not only artists, but also people with good material income who knew how to think creatively and perceive new things. Not only bohemians, but also wealthy citizens began to settle in loft houses.

Features of housing layout in the original loft style include:

  • large room sizes;

  • lack of partitions;
  • high ceilings;
  • a large amount of free space.

The design was determined by the following characteristic features:

  • maintaining the rough finish of production premises;
  • filling rooms with furniture and objects belonging to different styles;
  • mandatory functionality of all interior elements;
  • lack of decoration.

The popularity of lofts in the 21st century, which requires a high level of self-organization, mobility, understanding of laws and patterns, is understandable. The desire for emancipation, the lack of following certain rules and canons, the possibility of expressing personal tastes, desires, and creative ideas are the psycho-emotional component of this style.

Interesting modern house designs in the loft style

Over time, any genre undergoes changes. Modern buildings, corresponding to this direction, are separate buildings that have different layouts. The proposed photos of loft-style houses show a lot of different projects. These can be plastered whitewashed rectangular buildings with a ground floor where garages and technical rooms are located. The buildings are modest and restrained, white color creates an atmosphere of cleanliness and freshness.

There are many options for buildings lined with brick imitating old masonry. They reek of the romance of the past. They are perceived as timeless mansions. Projects of houses covered with boards are offered. The board is laid horizontally or vertically (but always in one direction), visually associated with a shield. This makes the buildings neat and collected. The board is not painted, it is applied protective coating, preserving the structure of the tree.

Loft house designs may also contain balconies, terraces, and verandas. In this style, these architectural parts of buildings look like platforms with or without fencing, fulfilling a specific functional purpose. Options for buildings where the entrance to the house is not on the front side of the building are considered interesting.

Characteristic features of the modern style are:

  • flat roofs of buildings (there are high gable roofs, but this is a departure from the style);
  • large panoramic windows;
  • lack of rounded shapes in architecture;
  • discreet design;
  • functionality of all elements;
  • open communications, clearly contrasting with the design of the premises.

The frame of such buildings is made of steel or reinforced concrete. The buildings are strong and durable.

Useful advice! If you want to buy a house in the loft style, then you should choose an option that meets all the basics this direction. Changing the shape of the roof, wide round steps, carved fences, etc. deprive the building of the charm inherent in this style.

Features of using the loft style in wooden houses

Is it possible to use the loft style for wooden buildings? Despite the mass of projects proposed by developers that are positioned as lofts, we can say with confidence - no. We can only talk about elements of style. A wooden house, frame or log, does not have a flat roof, since this is technically not feasible. It is problematic in such houses (and in log houses it is generally impossible) to install panoramic windows. In the best case, if the load-bearing basis of the building is a frame, you can make a wall entirely of glass.

The height of wooden buildings due to the specifics construction technology also has limitations. There are projects where a wooden house is built as a two-story house, but there is no solid ceiling between the floors. Its role is played by beams, which are elements of style and support the structure. Visually, these elements limit space, which contradicts the laws of style.

If we omit the basic architectural requirements, then it is quite possible to build wooden building with a minimum of partitions, decorate the walls in a loft style using boards, stone or wallpaper (if the surface allows). You can fill the rooms with appropriate furniture and ultimately organize stylish and comfortable housing.

The exterior of a wooden building should not have:

  • carved and figured parts;
  • windows and entrance doors non-standard shape(rectangular only);
  • multi-colored elements, including roofing - white, brown (and its shades) are allowed, gray is possible.

The exterior design of the building should show a desire to imitate an industrial facility.

Internal elements made of rough forms of processed wood contribute to the creation of this style: staircase boards with railings in the form of a board made of slats, wide ceiling beams.

Useful advice! When planning the construction of a wooden house using the characteristic features of the loft style, it is still at the design level special attention focus on the engineering aspect. Safe communication from the point of view of fire safety and sanitation in such a building is quite problematic.

Patterns of creation interior design of loft style houses

Bringing the rough and the pleasant to harmony is the main task that needs to be accomplished when creating the interior of private houses in the loft style. It is better to leave brick and cinder block masonry exposed. It is recommended to paint the ceiling beams in a dark color to make them more expressive. On monotonous plastered walls you can paste wallpaper with a print in the form of a dilapidated wall or imitating old boards.

Floors in houses of this style must be wooden. Tiles, linoleum and laminate with pure color shades, straight lines, tight joints can negate all design efforts, disrupting harmony. It is not advisable to use a plinth. If you can’t do without it, you should make it as inconspicuous as possible, merging with the walls.

To the furniture special requirements are not presented. It can be modern, old, antique, but preferably expensive and of high quality. It is appropriate to add a glass table with elegant metal supports to a classic heavy sofa with carved oak legs. The shelving will complement the office.

There are three ways to divide a room into zones:

  • use the layout, i.e. wall projections, window locations, etc.
  • using furniture, arranging it according to its intended purpose;
  • using lighting, color shades walls or floor.

There should be little furniture in the premises. Clutter and fullness of space is a gross violation of the rules for decorating houses of this style. Significant amounts of textiles are also not recommended. Bedspreads, pillows, blankets must be made of natural material; the use of prints and designs is not allowed. It is prohibited to cover windows with curtains, drapes, curtains. If you need to close the room from prying eyes, it is better to use blinds.

In the photo of the interior of private houses, you can choose both creative options for decorating the premises, as well as more restrained ones, but no less interesting.

How to create a modern home inDIY loft style

What to do if the house you live in is decades old, and its architecture and layout are hopelessly far from the modern loft style? And these are exactly the conditions in which you want to live... You can fix a lot of things with your own hands. And the first thing to start with is to tear down the partitions.

Facade decoration, interior design, basic elements of style. How to do the finishing yourself.

This is a cardinal decision, it requires a technical assessment by experts, determining the functionality of the walls (load-bearing or just partitions), making changes to the project or creating a new one. If it is not possible to remove all partitions, it is recommended to remove one interior partition. The result is a large room that can be equipped in the desired style.

Useful advice! Reconstruction of a building for the purpose of furnishing a loft house should only be undertaken if the ceiling height is at least 300 cm. Otherwise, it will not be possible to create much open space, which means that all design efforts will be in vain.

A staircase can serve as a significant interior element. It should have clear geometric shapes: wooden or metal frames, rectangular steps. The fence should be created only for its intended purpose - safety of movement; decoration is inappropriate here.

Stairs for a loft-style home, like the decoration of the walls, should resemble the atmosphere of an industrial room. Staircase structures are easy to make yourself, if you have timber, solid wood and tools for sawing and grinding. Knowing how to use a welding machine will allow you to make a metal staircase.

You can open communications: remove boxes, remove decorative grilles, false canisters. It is better to paint the pipes not to match the walls, but with paints that, if they do not create contrast, then noticeably highlight the elements of heat, water and gas supply.

Paintings on the floor, scales with weights, small natural fleecy rugs placed only in places where household members step barefoot - simple details that create a real loft.

How to easily and without significant costs make renovations in loft style

Major repairs with redevelopment, replacement of cladding layers, pipes, windows or even window openings able to change style. But there are not always funds for such repairs. You can create a loft style in your home without significant expenses. To do this, you need to examine the material from which the walls of the house are built. If this is masonry, achieve necessary design walls is simply simple: you need to remove the plaster and smooth out any protruding bulges.

If this option is not suitable, you need to cover the walls with boards. There are a sufficient number of products on sale that, when applied, will make this material “old.” If it is impossible to get to the beams or there are none at all, you can clean the ceiling down to the concrete (or down to the plaster without layers of paint) and make a lattice with cells of about 1 m² from a small cross-section of timber, tinted it with a darker, or, conversely, white color, which depends on the base of the ceiling.

With this type of repair, it will not be possible to get rid of doorways, therefore, you need to make new doors in the loft style or subject existing structures to processing to achieve the desired effect - “aging”. Look organic glass doors in a metal frame. If the house has swing doors, they will have to be replaced.

Additional living spaces should not be ignored. To create a loft-style balcony design, you should use the same types of design as for the main rooms. You can imitate masonry by using decorative facing brick. You can highlight the ceiling using lamps used to illuminate industrial premises by laying open wiring.

A simple, slightly rough-hewn bookcase made of a metal frame, consisting of wooden shelves, it will be pleasant to sit next to a low armchair and a light table with a white polished surface. Furniture on the balcony should occupy no more than ¼ of the space. The principle of minimalism and the functionality of all elements for a given room is no less relevant.

Materials used in the design of facades of loft-style houses

Loft-style houses are classified as inexpensive. To organize such facades, a presentable finish is not required. The main types of materials used when decorating the facades of houses in this style:

Brick cladding is an old, reliable and proven method. Emergence of new species of this material expanded design possibilities: brick “torn”, “old”, with mineral chips, etc. are used depending on the desired effect. Loft style brick is the most common facing material.

Concrete and plaster (textured plaster is not typical for this type of house) create smooth and uniform surfaces that need to be painted.

Metal or plastic facade panels can be considered new elements in the design of building facades. They have strict geometric shapes, the surface can be smooth or embossed. Houses sheathed in this way look like modern industrial buildings or beautifully decorated trailers.

Slat systems are also a relatively new way of cladding loft houses. Their peculiarity is that traces of fastenings are not visible visually. Simplicity, conciseness, straightforwardness create the necessary perception of the building.

Wooden slats are easier to make. You can prepare them yourself if you have a simple woodworking machine, for example, a thickness planer. However, slats require not only preliminary, but also constant treatment during the operation of the house, since wood without an appropriate protective layer is susceptible to precipitation and temperature.

Metal rack systems are more durable, but the method of attaching them is quite complex. The slats are spaced at intervals, which allows the base material used in the construction of the house to “breathe.”

Useful advice! When choosing facing material it is necessary to take into account its compatibility with the main construction raw materials. Metal rack and pinion system is not suitable for a building made of aerated concrete, and the façade of a house made of cinder blocks should not be decorated with wooden slats.

Specifics of lighting for country houses in the loft style

Lighting plays a special role in creating a true loft style design. During the daytime, the room is filled with natural light provided by large windows. The artificial lighting system has a triple function:

  • design creation;
  • zone delimitation;
  • actual lighting.

One of the successful design solutions is the placement of spotlights on the beams. They must match the rough decor of the beams, so light bulbs with metal frames or closed shades are often used. Serial connection ceiling lamps and exposed wiring give the room stylistic expressiveness. The lamps are positioned so that the boundary of the illuminated area is clearly visible.

The large area that this implies is an excellent opportunity to use many lighting fixtures

It is optimal to use LED lamps that, when choosing the appropriate glow temperature, diffuse light close to daylight.

Pendant lamps are also used, the design of which also involves geometric shapes and the absence of decoration. Chandeliers placed in the center of the room cause a certain difficulty in choosing. This is where Edison lamps can come to the rescue. They themselves have an interesting shape, and additional shades are not required.

It is almost impossible to buy a chandelier that matches the loft style. However, with minimal knowledge and the ability to use power tools, independent production is a completely feasible task. Side lighting fixtures and hanging devices located in different zones cannot be of the same type.

Old-style sockets and switches, which, however, are not so easy to purchase today, will be an excellent addition to the design.

Loft style photo with image in various ways Electric lighting will suggest the most unexpected options for placing lamps and other lighting fixtures.

Loft style cottage:internal eclecticism and unity of landscape design

To highlight the design features of a project in the style of a loft cottage, it is necessary to take the following conventional differences as a basis:

  • this building always has two floors;
  • the architecture of the cottage is more sophisticated;
  • the building has all the necessary communications;
  • cottage villages are most often located in picturesque countryside;
  • there must be a small adjacent plot of land.

Based on the above, we can only talk about the features of the external design of the building and its place in the overall landscape of the site.

The design of the cottage and its color scheme are of decisive importance in the development of personal space. Paths, areas adjacent to the main building, hard surfaces should either repeat or have a color close to the design of the building. If the structure is white, the hard surface may have a grayish coloration; brown brick cladding involves covering from natural stone similar shades, etc.

The vegetation is predominantly without variegated and bright shades. Wide trimmed lawns, a minimum of bushes and trees. Tall plants are concentrated in one place; freedom of space should be ensured in the garden plot.

Additional buildings (gazebos, canopies) are made mainly from the same material or are similar to the cladding of the cottage.

If in interior design If eclecticism prevails in buildings, then in landscape design all elements must correspond to each other.

Useful advice! When decorating a plot in loft style, it is better to use perennials. Among them there is large selection decorative deciduous, non-flowering representatives of the flora.

Advantages and disadvantages of one-story loft-style houses

The recognition and popularity of the loft style are determined primarily by its main positive features:

  • loft home design is always individual and unique;
  • This is an opportunity to show creativity;
  • does not require large financial expenses;
  • the absence of unnecessary items, restraint and minimalism create comfort and facilitate care;
  • free space promotes proper rest and relaxation;
  • use of natural, environmentally friendly materials.

While listing all the undeniable advantages of this modern style, it is necessary to note its disadvantages:

  • lack of partitions, large area of premises create problems during heating season, since the building takes a long time to warm up and it is difficult to maintain heat in it;
  • large window sizes promote weathering;
  • the costs of paying for utilities are significant;
  • This interior style is not perceived by everyone. It is especially unacceptable for people with conservative views.

Useful advice! It is recommended to involve household members in the development of the loft style. Compromises will lead to a positive result: everyone in the house will be comfortable and cozy.

  1. If the room is relatively small in size, placing furniture in the center to indicate certain area will significantly reduce space.
  2. Delineating zones using a long cabinet will also lead to a visual reduction in free space.
  3. Special lighting is required for each zone. If there are no conditions for hanging stationary lamps, you can install floor lamps.
  4. Large carpets reduce space, so it is better to use medium-sized products.
  5. The introduction of an exclusive must be dosed, since an overabundance destroys the idea. For example, stools in the form of inverted tubs are quite enough; experimenting with a table will be unnecessary.
  6. Replacing plank flooring with linoleum will significantly change the overall perception of the room's design. Equally, you can replace the board only with brushed parquet.
