What can be made from an electric jigsaw. Homemade jigsaw machine for sawing: drawings and video

You can often hear that every home craftsman should have a jigsaw in his collection. But how many of us know what can be done with a jigsaw?

Meanwhile, today there are many operations that are carried out by this tool. It will be of interest primarily to those craftsmen who are not content with a somewhat rough hacksaw for wood. The jigsaw is primarily designed for work that requires particularly high quality finishing and maximum cutting accuracy. In particular, if the master decided to make it with his own hands stylish wardrobe or cut the original wood trim on the wall, the use of a jigsaw is almost inevitable.

What is an electric jigsaw?

This device belongs to the class cutting tools, operating from an electric drive. In fact, this is an electrified version of a manual jigsaw. Its working cutting body is a fairly narrow saw blade, which cuts the workpiece due to reciprocating movements in the vertical plane.

Because of their design features, including due to the relatively small size of the file, with the help of the specified power tool it is possible to perform a variety of cutting work of straight and curved configurations. The use of the device also allows you to cut through holes of the most different sizes and shapes. Moreover, the thinner the saw blade is, and the faster it moves during operation, the thinner the cut edges will be.

Today, jigsaws of different designs and purposes are known. So, they are divided into manual and stationary, for home use And professional models(designed for fairly long and intensive use in conditions, for example, of a furniture factory).

There are also saws electrical devices with one or two handles. The first option is sometimes called a traveling option, since it does not require the presence of special devices at the cutting site for rigid fixation of the workpiece. The performer has to hold the workpiece being processed with his other hand.

Accordingly, two-handed models are good because they can be held with both hands, while the workpiece is firmly secured to the base of the machine by some kind of locking device. This circumstance ultimately has a very favorable effect on the high quality of workpiece processing.

What and how you can do with a jigsaw: functionality

This power tool can perform a wide range of cutting operations. First of all, this concerns various works in the construction and repair industry, in the production of furniture products, as well as for everyday management household when minor repairs and restoration work are periodically required.

This application was made possible thanks to the design electric jigsaw.

A thin saw, an active drive from an electric motor and a flat platform on the mechanism body ensure fairly fast and high-quality cutting from sheet lumber of a wide variety of contours in pattern and complexity.

Using a jigsaw, you can make various connecting components with sufficient high degree accuracy. The specified power tool is used to produce accurate bevel cutting in places of corner connections of wooden (plastic) workpieces with each other. A jigsaw is practically indispensable in cases where adjustment trimming is performed at the joints of flat wooden panels.

A special area of application of the device is the production of various openwork wooden cladding, both individual pieces of furniture and the entire room interior. In this area, the jigsaw traditionally has no equal. With its help, talented craftsmen create objects that are completely unique in shape and beauty. wall shelves, furniture facades, wall decor details, etc.

The possibilities for artistic use of a jigsaw are determined by its design. The small width of the saw blade and its fixation in the device body with only one end significantly increases the maneuverability of the mechanism.

Thanks to this design, you can still use a jigsaw to cut holes of different diameters and shapes (figures with a closed contour) without disturbing the outer contour of the cut figure. To do this, you will first have to drill an initial hole on the workpiece, which in diameter should be equal (or slightly larger) to the width of the saw blade. Next, a file is inserted into the hole, the electric drive is turned on, and the jigsaw begins to move along the contour marked with a pencil. It is worth noting that this function in many cases can be very important and even decisive.

Some Factors Affecting the Functionality of a Jigsaw

Traditionally, jigsaws are used for processing wood materials or workpieces from soft materials(plastic, plasterboard panels, laminate). However, thanks to the use of saw blades made of special metals and their special designs, today the range of functionality of this power tool has expanded significantly. In particular, jigsaws are currently actively used when cutting metal sheets, fragile glass and ceramic workpieces.

Any electric jigsaw operates on the principle of converting, through a special gearbox, the rotational motion of the electric motor rotor into the reciprocating motion of the saw blade. It should be borne in mind that the quality of cutting largely depends on a number of technical factors.

Thus, relatively cheap jigsaws often have not very powerful electric motors. Because of this, it is quite difficult for the device to develop a high cutting speed - this is the key high quality processing of workpieces.

To ensure that this factor does not affect quality, many jigsaws have a pendulum mechanism. With its help, a rather complex trajectory of the saw is formed - not only up/down, but also slightly forward/backward.

This additional “swaying” of the working element carries out preliminary sawing of the material in front of the leading edge of the blade teeth. The pendulum trajectory makes it possible not only to increase the cutting speed of the workpiece, but also significantly reduces vibration and wear of the blade, since not all teeth are involved in the work at the same time. In addition, with such a trajectory of movement of the file, its heating is reduced and the chips are effectively removed from the cut site.

In expensive models of jigsaws, this option can be adjusted. This, as a rule, is done in order to connect one or another operating amplitude mode when moving from one material being processed to another. In particular, the maximum amplitude of saw blade forward/backward is used in cases where a soft wood workpiece is being cut. For particularly precise and clean cuts on hard wood or plastic panel average pendulum amplitudes are used.

The level of vibration also affects the efficiency of the device. Low vibration makes the quality of the cut higher and the operation of the equipment more convenient for the worker. This factor should definitely be taken into account when purchasing a tool, first checking it for the degree of vibration.

In this article, as I promised in previous posts, we will talk about one more homemade device for the work of finishing craftsmen.
This device, as you see in the photo, is based on a regular electric jigsaw.
I believe that a jigsaw, like a grinder, is a very universal tools, which, when changing attachments, be it a file or a cutting disc, can be used in different operations.
I made this device as an alternative to a hand-held circular saw, which, of course, broke down at the most inopportune moment.
And I want to say that even after repairing the circular saw, I still continued to use the jigsaw machine in my work.
Of course, an electric jigsaw is much inferior to an electric saw in the speed of cutting parts. But it has an advantage - it is a curved cut.
And it seems to me that a jigsaw is safer compared to a circular saw.
In short, we do jigsaw machine.
To make it you will need this material:

  • Duralumin strip measuring 930×310 mm, thickness 2 mm.

You can use plexiglass (10 mm), but it is more difficult to bend.

  • Aluminum corners dimensions:

15×15 mm, length 375 mm – 2 pcs.
20×20 mm, length 60 mm – 4 pcs.
40×40 mm, length 130 mm – 1 pc.

  • Bracket-bracket size 85×20×2 mm – 1 pc.
  • Metal plates size 45×14 mm – 2 pcs.

I used furniture canopies because... they just came to hand first, so if I use any other plates, it’s no big deal.

  • Plywood 300×290 mm thick no thinner than 10 mm.

You can use plywood with a thickness of 20 mm, but then you will need to use a jigsaw file longer than usual, for example, 126 mm.
Accessories:

  • Screw M5×30 – 1 pc.
  • Screw M5×50 – 2 pcs.
  • Screw with nut M6×20 – 1 pc.
  • Screw with nut M4×16 – 1 pc.
  • Self-tapping screws 3.5×16 – 20 pcs.
  • Self-tapping screws with drill 3.5×9.5 (fleas) – 14 pcs.
  • Self-tapping screws with press washer 4×16 – 2 pcs.

Also, you will not need a large arsenal for the job. tool.

  • Drill with a set of drills.
  • Grinder with cutting wheel for metal.

Please note that duralumin is cut using a special disk cutter with small tooth from the winner.
But I didn’t buy such a cutter, because... I don’t process duralumin sheets, I only cut aluminum profile For .

  • Jigsaw.
  • Screwdriver.

The procedure for making a jigsaw machine

✓Use a grinder to cut a duralumin strip measuring 930×310 mm.
Please note to make cutting easier, you need to use a cutting wheel for metal with the following parameters 125×1.0×22 mm. Where the size of 125 mm may vary depending on the grinder itself (angle grinder).
Main to thickness cutting disc was no more than 1.2 mm!
✓Measure 300 mm from the left and right edges of the bend line.
✓Bend each side separately at an angle slightly less than 90°.
This is necessary for better stability of the entire structure.
✓Use a grinder to cut two aluminum corner 15x15 mm 375 mm long and four corners 20x20 mm 60 mm long.
✓Using fleas, we connect the 20×20 mm corners with the side ones at a height of 40 mm from the bottom.
✓Attach 15×15 mm corners with a length of 375 mm to them using fleas.
This gives rigidity to the product.
✓Use a jigsaw to cut 300×290 mm plywood for the table backing.
✓We connect it to the duralumin base using self-tapping screws (3.5×16 mm) in twenty places.
The frame is ready.
✓Turn it over with the plywood facing up.
✓We make markings for a through slot for the file.

✓We cut through with a grinder.
✓Insert the jigsaw and mark the holes for fastening the sole to the table.

✓Drill with a ø5 mm drill.

Advice.
The diameter of the hole should be equal to the diameter of the thread on the sole of the jigsaw.
ø5 mm=M5.
This is necessary for a tighter connection.

✓Attach the jigsaw with three M5 screws to the table.

Now you need to make a guide support for the jigsaw file.
To do this, I used a lamp mounting bracket from a floor lamp and two plates from
furniture canopies.
✓Measure 85 mm from the file and use a grinder to make a slot with a length and thickness equal to the dimensions of the inserted corner.

Please note, after marking, the jigsaw must be removed!

✓Insert the corner into the slot and secure it with self-tapping screws and a press washer to the plywood.
✓Attach the bracket assembled with guide plates for the saw to it using fleas.

The jigsaw machine is ready.

The main advantage of such a device– these are metal saw guides that maintain an absolutely flat vertical (90°) during operation!
Many craftsmen know that almost all jigsaws have significant drawback, when sawing a part, the vertical of the file is broken. If you look at the end, the file goes at a slight angle. And this slope can change in different directions throughout the entire length of the cut.
Well, what a plus of this product– this is that it is not heavy and small in size.

Flaws:

  1. When working, you have to hold it with your foot.
  2. I didn't make a separate button to turn it on and off.
  3. You can't cut thick bars or boards, but I don't need it, because... I’m thicker than chipboard (16-18 mm) and I don’t unravel anything.

Wooden or MDF lining or - easier than ever!
And, if you use a diamond-coated file for ceramics, then you can tiles cut.

Of course this one sawing machine from a jigsaw, just like I did from whatever came to hand, so it’s not at all necessary to use exactly such materials. You can experiment with other materials.

That's all on this topic.

Era electric tool came not with the first electric drills, but when the electric motor became an attribute of a tool with a narrower focus: scissors, hacksaws, impact wrenches and, of course, jigsaws.

Moreover, the jigsaw became one of the first in this series. Today it is one of the most popular tools in the home (and not only) workshop. And first of all, we are talking about hand tools.

But in this article we are looking at jigsaw machines, and these are practically stationary devices that often have their own specific place in the workshop, because for comfortable work they require a base with given parameters: height, so that the hand placed on the work table has a 90º bend at the elbow and stability, so that it dampens vibrations of the machine itself.

What are jigsaws used for?

Jigsaw machines are primarily designed for cutting parts or elements of complex configurations in sheet material: wood, plywood, MDF, fiberboard, chipboard, plastic, aluminum. They are also used for sawing internal contours products with preliminary drilling of the sawn material.

Such a tool, unlike manual or electric jigsaws, leaves both hands free for the person working on it, which greatly facilitates the work and allows it to be performed with the greatest accuracy. Most jigsaws, provided correct selection and the installation of nail files, allow sawing even in fairly thick workpieces, with strict adherence to an angle of 90º relative to the plane of the workpiece.

Also, many models have an inclined table, which makes it possible to perform complex patterns at strictly specified angles other than straight, which is almost impossible when using manual or electric jigsaws.

In addition to home use, they are widely used in furniture production and manufacturing enterprises. musical instruments. True, quite often they are replaced by laser machines, but the burnt edges left by the latter do not make their use widespread.

General drawing, structural features of desktop jigsaw machines

The most common layout of jigsaw machines is as follows:

It includes:

  • a frame (or body) on which all components and mechanisms are mounted;
  • drive, often from an electric motor via a V-belt to a crank;
  • a crank mechanism that converts the rotational motion of the electric motor shaft into the reciprocating motion of the saw;
  • double rocker with tensioning device and attachments for saw blades;
  • desktop, sometimes with a mechanism for rotating in the horizontal plane at a given angle.

Previously, miniature jigsaw machines with a somewhat simplified design were on sale, but it was precisely because of this, which led to the rapid failure of the files due to their short stroke, that their production was discontinued.

Most currently produced desktop jigsaw machines work with files 200–350 mm long and have a working stroke of 30 to 50 mm.

The differences between the machines mainly consist in the power of the electric drive (from 90 to 500 W for most models), as well as the type and methods of attaching the files. The optimal power, in our opinion, is 150 W.

And files, in addition to length, can vary in width (from 2 to 10 mm), type of shanks (with or without pins) and thickness (from 0.6 to 1.25 mm).

In some models you can install the simplest, often called “Soviet”, files for hand jigsaws, which is big advantage. To realize just this opportunity, owners of jigsaw machines that do not have it often improve the fastenings of their devices by installing clamps from a manual jigsaw on them.

Most desktop jigsaw machines have 2 speed modes: most often 600 and 1000 rpm, which is very useful when working with materials of different thickness, hardness and viscosity. The presence of the already mentioned turntable for 99% of the work performed on the machine, the function is useless.

Also, most jigsaw machines are equipped with additional accessories, such as:

  • compressor for blowing chips from the cutting line;
  • lighting of the sawing area;
  • drilling block, etc.

These devices cannot be called useless, but be guided by their presence when choosing a desktop jigsaw machine, however, it’s not worth it, since the same functions can be successfully performed:

  • a compressor for an aquarium, with a blowing power selected by you, often more efficient than the standard one;
  • a table lamp or carrier with a light output that is comfortable for your eyes;
  • electric drill or screwdriver.

Even more complex devices, such as engraving drills, which can be equipped with your machine, generally cause some confusion, but let’s say right away that it is better to have such tools not tied to a jigsaw (or any other) machine. Their mobility is often more expensive than the advanced functionality of this very machine. In addition, all this is far from free.

Choosing a jigsaw manufacturer

Most often, Russian consumers choose jigsaw machines from Proxxon, Dewalt, Hegner, Xendoll, Zubr, JET, Enkor Corvette and Croton. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Based on reliability and compliance with the characteristics declared by the manufacturer, we would single out machines from the German company Hegner. And their line of this equipment is longer than many, but be sure to insist on sea trials when purchasing, regardless of which company’s machine you are planning to buy.

And even if it is possible to choose from 2 identical machines, demand that both are turned on. Buy one that has less operating noise and vibration.

DIY jigsaw machine

Finding a drawing of such equipment on the Internet is a rather trivial task, but we do not consider it advisable to single out any specific one from them, due to completely different approaches to implementation, both the very idea of building such a machine, and the selection of materials, type of drive, etc. We will offer several concepts for a homemade jigsaw and briefly analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each so that you can figure out what is best for you.

  • First: the easiest to implement, suitable for performing most tasks in the manufacture of parts with a rather complex contour at home.

There are many options for attaching a manual jigsaw to the tabletop that serves as the machine’s work table. Choose any, or offer your own and share with the readers of our site, for which we will be grateful.

The video also shows techniques for making a complex contour using a not-so-thin file. A main drawback This design is due to the impossibility of using thin files, which makes it difficult to manufacture openwork parts.

  • Second: wooden. It is interesting due to the fact that the material is accessible, easy to process and repair.

In our opinion, the interesting thing about it is the use of the same manual jigsaw, which is rational for two reasons:

However, for those who like to craft, there are alternative options for making a wooden jigsaw.

When used as a drive of a drill or screwdriver with an adjustable speed of rotation of the output shaft, it will also be possible to smoothly regulate the frequency of movement of the saw.

Moreover, control of this process can be transferred to the pedal using a simple device, which will make the work even more comfortable and the cut more precise. Such jigsaw machines need to be well strengthened with braces and stringers and securely fastened to the floor so that they do not move during operation.

  • Third: metal. There is no doubt that this particular concept is the most reliable and durable (subject to the exception serious mistakes during manufacture), but also the most expensive. It makes sense to implement it if there is a large amount of work and you manage to save a sufficient amount by using the materials you already have. Otherwise, there is not much point in making such structures with your own hands, given that inexpensive factory-made jigsaw machines can be purchased for less than 4 thousand rubles.

Of course, the latter does not matter if you are interested in the process of technical creativity itself.

Dear readers, if you have any questions, please ask them using the form below. We will be glad to communicate with you;)

The article will primarily be useful to those people who often work with wood as a hobby, without making money from it. The author presents quite budget project tabletop jigsaw, which can be assembled in one day, with minimum costs for materials.

To create the machine you will need the following materials:
- Working manual jigsaw;
- Plywood;
- Self-tapping screws and bolts with nuts;
- Guides for furniture drawers;
- Two bearings;
- Compression spring;
- Spray paint;
- Self-adhesive paper.

Materials and tools are standard, available in every workshop.

Step 1. Body.
The first step is to create a body for a manual jigsaw from plywood. Here you need to think in advance where the holes for the switch and speed controller will be located.
It should look something like this:

Step 2. Tabletop.
It is better to take a thick piece of chipboard with good coverage, since the workpieces being processed will rub against it during operation of the machine.

A hole for a saw blade is drilled in the chipboard. The jigsaw itself will be attached to the back of the tabletop.
A stem for attaching the boom is also made from furniture guides:

Here's what it looks like assembled:

And the tabletop is attached to the body:

Step 3. Arrow.
The boom itself will be made of two furniture guides. They are bolted together to increase rigidity.

The boom supports are made of chipboard. Before painting and installing them, the point at which the boom is attached to the support is measured. Before doing this, they need to be installed in their place:

After this, it is necessary to drill holes in the support for seats bearings.

Step 4. Painting.
The prepared supports are spray painted.

While they dry, the machine itself is covered with self-adhesive tape.

Step 5. Assembly.
Bearings are inserted into the supports and screwed into place.

The boom mounting axis will be made of two bolts screwed into the guides as shown in the photo. The diameter of the bolts is selected in accordance with the diameter of the inner race of the bearing.

The bolts are tightened securely, after which the two halves are screwed to each other.

This clearly shows how the boom will be secured in the supports:

The boom is installed in its place and secured with nuts.

Next you need to install the garter spring. It is necessary in order to return the arrow to its original position after the jigsaw pulls it down. This is how the saw will move back and forth. It must be adjusted so that it is not too soft (this will complicate the operation of the machine) and too hard (this can lead to overheating of the jigsaw motor).

How to secure it is shown in the photo:

Then, from a thin strip of metal (1 mm), it is necessary to make fastenings for the file to the arrow. They must rotate freely on the axis, since during operation the boom changes its angle of inclination to the jigsaw, and if they are static, this can lead to breakage of the saw.

This is what the mounts should look like:

The boom supports are additionally reinforced with a long bolt, it can be seen in the photo:

Step 6. Electronic part.
Since access to a manual jigsaw is limited, it is necessary to place the controls on the outside of the body.

To adjust the rotation speed of the jigsaw electric motor, the author used a phase power regulator. Here is its electrical diagram:

Here's what it looks like:

When installing the board to the semistor, it is necessary to screw the radiator; if this is not done, it may overheat and fail.

The jigsaw is disassembled and the power regulator is connected to electrical diagram.
It is also necessary to install a power button for the machine.

In life home handyman, periodically there is a need to make figured and simply decorative cuts, including inside the workpiece. Gasoline, circular and regular hand saws they cannot cope with this task, due to their design features. To solve this problem, use a manual jigsaw, specially designed for performing such operations. This tool undoubtedly copes with its task, but when working with large volumes or dimensional materials, it definitely loses to its more professional brother - a jigsaw.

Purchasing a brand new, shiny, and functional benchtop jigsaw is absolutely effortless. Store shelves are filled with products from various manufacturers aimed at professional and amateur work. At first glance, the stationary jigsaws on sale seem to be very complex in terms of design, the assembly of which is carried out only by selected expert technicians. In fact, this is quite simple devices that you can do yourself if you have the desire and step by step instructions. And if the first point depends only on you, with the second we will definitely help and provide detailed guide on self-assembly of a homemade jigsaw machine.

Scope of application

Special design and a thin saw blade, make the tabletop jigsaw a unique device, indispensable when performing certain types of tasks. This device has gained the greatest popularity in the woodworking industry. It is often used in delicate work to make jewelry, souvenirs, musical instruments and furniture.

One of the main features for which the wood jigsaw is so valued is the ability to carry out internal cuts on the workpiece without damaging its contour. Not the least role in the usefulness of this device is played by its ease of use, when both hands of the operator are free and can in the best possible way control the position of the product on work surface. To everything else, it is worth adding the accuracy of the resulting cutting line, as well as the ability to work with plastic and metal. All of the above advantages make a tabletop jigsaw the best tool for sawing decorative elements.

The working principle of a jigsaw machine

To form the clearest possible picture of the structure of a tabletop jigsaw, you need to understand what it consists of. Next, we will list all the design elements of an elementary apparatus of this type, without additional functionality (removing sawdust, speed control, tilting the working surface and other gadgets). So, a stationary jigsaw consists of following components:
  1. Stable base
  2. Electric motor
  3. Crank assembly
  4. Desk
  5. Upper and lower arm
  6. File clamping device
Of course, without explaining the relationship of the above components, they will remain just a set of words. To convey a more specific idea of the operation of the structure, we will briefly describe its structure.

The whole process originates from the motor, which transmits rotation to the crank mechanism, which converts the circular motion into reciprocating motion. The connecting rod, which is part of the mechanism, transfers movement to the lower arm, causing it to move up and down. The entire structure described above is located under the desktop. The upper lever is located above the table surface and is connected to the lower spring, which serves as a saw blade tensioner. At the ends of both levers opposite to the spring there is a clamp where a saw is installed to cut the workpiece.

For greater clarity of the entire process described above, we present the following drawing of a jigsaw machine with the function of a saw blade tension regulator. At least this opportunity and is one of the main ones, we did not present it in the description of the design of an elementary device, since it is possible to work without it.

Jigsaw machine from electric jigsaw

Not everyone has the need to regularly carry out decorative figured cuts. Often, to solve such problems, home craftsmen only need a regular hand-held electric jigsaw. Not everyone wants to purchase a bulky and rather expensive device for one-time use and further collection of dust. Still, in everyday life, sometimes there is a job that requires the most accurate and accurate cutting. In this case, you can assemble a fairly simple jigsaw machine with your own hands using minimum set materials and a little imagination.

Today, the network offers many different options for desktop jigsaws, with varying degrees of complexity and efficiency. After reviewing dozens of products, we settled on the most interesting and at the same time simple assembly that meets the main requirements for cutting quality. Even a beginner who has at his disposal can assemble such a jigsaw machine from a manual jigsaw with his own hands necessary tool. For assembly you will need:

  1. Chipboard sheet (3 pcs): 600x400x20 (length, width, height)
  2. Spring
  3. Profile pipe (1.5 m): 30x30x2 (length, width, thickness)
  4. Jigsaw
  5. Flat washers (4 pcs)
  6. Bolts for washers and connections
  7. Self-tapping screws for countertop assembly
The above values are indicated with a margin. When assembling the machine, be guided by your preferences and logic.

Required tools:

  • Welding machine
  • Grinder with a metal disc
  • Screwdriver
Having collected all the necessary arsenal, you can safely proceed to action.

1.First of all, you should assemble the base of the future machine. To do this, take 3 prepared chipboard sheet or something else thick enough wood material and make a structure out of them that looks like the letter “p”. We fix it at the edges with self-tapping screws. For greater reliability and stability, you can make a back wall.

2. Centered on the surface assembled countertop We outline future holes for the file and several mounts for the jigsaw. To do this, remove the sole from the jigsaw, apply it with the opposite (not flat) side to the future attachment point and make several points through the grooves of the sole. On at this stage it is necessary to maintain accuracy, since the jigsaw installed from below must have the most accurate, perpendicular location to the side edges of the table, in order to avoid distortion of the file during further work. We drill the marked points with a drill 3-4 mm, and the central one (for the file) by 10 mm. As in the photos below.

3. After fixing the jigsaw under the tabletop, we proceed to assembling the upper arm from square pipe, serving as a saw blade tensioner. As a fixed base, we cut off a part of the pipe, 300 mm long, and weld fixation elements (corners or ears) at one of the ends. The moving part should be slightly longer (about 45 cm). The connection of two elements is carried out using a bolt with a nut and a U-shaped metal element, welded to the end of the post, as in the photo below.

A washer is welded to the end of the movable lever, which will be located directly on the file, which will serve as the upper fastening element.

4. Before installation assembled structure tensioner to the surface of the tabletop, be sure to make sure that the end of the arrow is located directly above the hole drilled for the file. If the top fastening moves too far to the side, the file will often tear, complicating the cutting process. Once the ideal position of the tensioner has been verified, we fasten the structure to the tabletop with bolts.

5. Since the jigsaw is not suitable for working with thin files, we make a simple adapter fastener for it. To do this, take an old saw blade, grind off the teeth with a grinder, cut them to 3-4 cm in length and weld a regular nut to the end, into which the saw blade will be clamped using a second nut and bolt.

When making such an adapter, pay attention special attention to its length. If it is too large, the nut will hit the bottom of the table top, which may cause the tool to break.

6. When the file is clamped in both fasteners, all that remains is to tension it and start working. The implementation of such a function is simple. We fasten the spring to the back of the movable lever using a bolt and nut, and fix the opposite part to the tabletop on required length. Determining the tension is very easy. To do this, just run your finger along the file, like a guitar string. A high sound will indicate that the device is operational.

At this stage, the assembly of the elementary device is considered complete. To more clearly understand how to make a machine from a jigsaw, we recommend watching the following video.

Homemade jigsaw from a drill

A screwdriver and a drill are among the most common power tools in any household. These devices are quite powerful, have a wide range of applications and are sometimes even used as drives for various mechanisms. The author of the following manual on assembling a tabletop jigsaw with his own hands uses a drill as a motor.

The manufacturing process of a classic machine presented below does not require welding and cutting metal with a grinder, but at the same time perfectly demonstrates the principle of operation of such a device. The device is based on a simple crank mechanism, which can be made in a couple of minutes, having at your disposal a piece of plywood and a short steel rod with a diameter of 6 mm. Unfortunately, the author did not provide detailed drawing jigsaw machine, but answered many questions by editing a visual instruction video.

The entire assembly process includes quite a lot of small details that are easy to understand and do not require additional comments. For this reason, we decided not to explain basic things in words, but to touch only on the basic details of the design. By tradition, we begin the instructions by listing the required materials.
  1. Wooden slats (2 pcs): 500x40x20 (length, width, thickness)
  2. Chipboard for base: 400x350x20
  3. Chipboard for work surface: 320x320x20
  4. Chipboard strips (2 pcs): 350x50x20
  5. Aluminum sheet: 400x400x1
  6. Drill (screwdriver)
  7. PVC pipes (4 pcs): 300 mm in length
  8. Self-tapping screws, bolts, washers and nuts
  9. Wood glue
  10. Steel rod, 6mm diameter (for crank assembly)
  11. Spring
The listed materials are used in the instructions, but do not claim absolute accuracy. You can replace it with what you have at your disposal. You can also deviate from the sizes, if necessary.

Required tools:

  • Screwdriver or drill
  • Pliers
  • Metal scissors
  • Hammer
Having prepared the required materials, all that remains is to assemble them into a single working mechanism, following the video guide presented below. When connecting wooden parts using self-tapping screws and glue, we advise you to wait for complete drying, which will last from 24 hours. Otherwise, the connection will be flimsy.

In place of the presented saw tension mechanism, you can install a small lanyard with a fixing nut. This way, the tensioning process will be more convenient and efficient.

The author uses steel wire as a saw to survive in the forest. Of course, a perfectly even cut cannot be obtained with such an element, so at the ends of the upper and lower arms, you should make fastener. You can clamp the file between two washers, tightened with a screw and a pair of nuts.

For the most durable and convenient fixation of the crank, it is better to use a drill chuck with a key. If you have this element, you can quickly remove the drill or screwdriver when you need it elsewhere. You can just as easily tighten it back.

We hope that the presented manual was useful and clearly conveyed the principle of operation and manufacture of the device. More visual instructions You can see how to make a homemade jigsaw in the video below.
