Beautiful shower room. Interior design of a bathroom with a shower - advice from the best designers

due to typical layout modern apartments. In a small space you need to fit a sink, a bathtub or shower, shelves with small items, very often a toilet and washing machine. In this case, shower cabins come to the rescue.

The pros and cons of such cabins are often discussed, some prefer to take a bath, others do not like the structures themselves, but this is an obvious space saver.

Advantages of shower cabins in the interior

1) The space savings are significant; you can put a washing machine in the free space.
2) Sealed cubicle doors, no need to worry about splashed water on the floor or the fact that the bathroom is very cold. Hot water quickly heats the air in the cabin.

3) Additional interesting details. There are models with a massage effect.
4) Significant water savings: you need much more to fill the bathroom.
5) B good models There are special anti-slip mats that prevent you from falling and slipping.

Flaws:

1) You cannot completely immerse yourself in water and relax in the bathtub,
2) Not all apartments will work additional features soul (not enough pressure)
3) Some booths are not occupied less space than a small corner bath.

4) The high tray is not suitable for children and the elderly.
5) The shower stall needs constant cleaning; it needs to be cleared of any deposits that appear.

Installation in a small bathroom

Accommodation is somewhat limited by plumbing, ventilation and power. It's better to choose small option cubicles, access to which is not blocked by anything, and at the same time you could easily go to the sink or load water into the washing machine.

An important rule: the cabin should only occupy one corner. A semicircular option is also suitable if it does not interfere with the passage in the bathroom. You can place the booth against any of the walls. But the free-standing position of the shower is considered especially beautiful, although it takes up a lot of space.

Location in a combined bathroom

If you have to fit a shower stall into the interior of a small bathroom combined with a toilet, then there is one thing important rule. There should be at least thirty centimeters between the shower stall, toilet and washbasin.

From door jamb it should also be at least fifteen centimeters.

Nowadays there are many different sizes of shower cabins, but the most convenient is 70x70 centimeters. A booth of this size can fit into almost any room. Before buying a stall, it is advised to draw a square of this size on the floor with chalk and see how comfortable it will be to enter the bathroom.

Shower stalls must be tested before purchasing, so as not to be upset later because of a bad choice.

Come into the booth and try:

  • Raise your hands
  • Turn around
  • Bend over to pick up something.

You should not hit anything, and the movements should be comfortable and familiar.

The material should be chosen as durable as possible so that it can be easily washed. There must be non-slip material on the floor, otherwise you can slip and break something.

Sometimes you can make a shower stall with your own hands; a fairly spacious tray is laid out on the floor with tiles, and the doors are ordered separately, so you can choose the color of the tiles to match the walls and the main design.

Shelves next to the shower stall are convenient; you don’t have to leave it for forgotten shampoo or shower gel.

It is best to install the booth before major renovations in order to correctly fit it into the required space.

All plumbing fixtures can be chosen in one tone; white looks a little predictable, but fits well into a classic-type interior.

Shower cabins are suitable for interior and country houses, they are quite easy to install.

Absolutely glass walls do not block the space, but make sure that it can withstand the weight of a person, in case you have to accidentally lean on the walls.

In a large bathroom you can create a whole work of art with the help of such a cabin. You can even install seats and sides here.

Try to expand the space using walls different colors. Such a contrasting stripe, which is clearly visible through the shower stall, visually lengthens the room.

The shower cabin looks great in modern interior, she is stylish element with many technical accessories.

A shower without walls takes up little space, but this way you may face the problem of water splashing and the room being quite cold.

The tiles inside may differ slightly from the main one, but it is better if they match in style.

If there is very little space, then you can neglect the thirty centimeter rule. Then the cubicle fits well between the toilet and the bathroom.

Many people, faced with a small bathroom and bathtub, and usually this is no more than two or three square meters, decide to combine them to make the room larger and more functional.

This is a good way out for small families, since such a combination poses some difficulties. When connecting a bathroom and a toilet together, some people change the bathtub to a shower stall.

Shower cabin in a combined bathroom

By combining two rooms into one, the room increases, giving flight to imagination. Replacing the bathtub with a shower will help make it even bigger. The shower also gives you the opportunity to take a quick shower before work, which is rarely possible with a bathtub. It saves water consumption, which is important. Also, modern shower stalls have additional useful features, such as radio, telephone, bath and aromatherapy functions.

Of course, a shower will never replace a full bath, but the variety of choices will help you choose the right one. Shower cabins can be with trays, low and deep. A deep tray can be a good substitute for a bathtub, even if it is a sit-down bathtub. Shower doors that open outward, inward, or sideways will help you choose an option for any room layout.

Why is it worth combining a bathroom with a shower:

  • The main advantage is the increase in the room in which every morning and evening is spent.
  • More space allows you to install more cabinets for storing bath accessories, a washing machine and more little things that bring joy.
  • Combining rooms allows you to save on finishing materials, since one of the walls will be removed, and there will also be more space and savings due to the elimination of one of the two doors.
  • Room larger size, will allow you to install plumbing as you like or find it more convenient.
  • A larger common room will allow you to bring to life ideas with a more complex design.

What can prevent you from combining a bathroom with a shower:

  • Having a large family, it will become a problem for several people to visit the bathroom, especially if there are several children, especially if they are of different genders.
  • To demolish a wall, you need to obtain a permit, and this is provided that the wall is not load-bearing. Such walls cannot be demolished.

Layout of a combined bathroom with shower

When starting a renovation, you should first draw the layout of a combined bathroom with a shower. When you know where and what will be located, renovation work carried out much faster.

Main types of layouts:

Design of a combined bathroom with shower

Not all designer styles suitable for small rooms. The design of a combined bathroom with a shower can be created only by simulating some style and small accessories.

Several types of design for small rooms:

A combined bathroom with a shower can be decorated in any style you like, the main thing is that it doesn’t put pressure and you don’t have to redo everything.

Finishing a combined bathroom with shower

The walls can be finished with any material - tiles, wallpaper, panels, and the easiest way is to simply paint them. Most often, walls are laid out with ceramics. When choosing tiles, you need to remember a few rules:

  • The tile should not be too large, no more than twenty centimeters.
  • It should be laid out vertically or diagonally - this will increase the volume of the room.
  • Combine colors, don’t take more than two, so as not to be too bright.
  • Separating the upper and lower parts of the room by color will make the room appear taller.
  • The glossy surface of the tile will reflect light and make the area appear larger.
  • Mirror tiles will greatly enhance the bathroom, but they are difficult to maintain.
  • On the tiles dark colors Soap stains are very visible and you will have to clean it more often.

Advice ! A good option For any combined bathroom there will be a mosaic. With its help you can create your own, individual style. It can be all over the walls, or a separate drawing or pattern.

Many people decorate the walls with several materials, either separating the top and bottom, or alternating along the walls, you can make each wall different, or use contrasting inserts. There must be mirrors on the walls, be they small or covering the entire wall.

The most common ceiling finish is good whitewash or painting. If your room is tiled, then it is better not to use it on the ceiling. Mounted or frame ceilings will be stolen extra centimeters premises, but glossy suspended ceiling compensates for this. Mirror ceiling will greatly increase the volume, but this option is not suitable for everyone, but only for brave people.

On the floor, you can lay out both tiles and wood, preferably diagonally - this will help to enlarge the combined bathroom. A wide range of heated floors will help make it cozy.

Plumbing and furniture in a combined bathroom with shower

The type and volume of the shower stall is selected taking into account the area of the room and the style of the room. It can be angular, square, rectangular, round, oval and even curved. The shower room can be with a deep or low tray, or without it at all.

For a small combined bathroom with a shower, wall-mounted toilets and sinks are chosen whenever possible. This will visually enlarge the room and make it possible, for example, to install a washing machine or a cabinet for cleaning products or bath accessories under the sink. In addition, this will make cleaning the room easier.

In a small room, small items are usually stored in wall cabinets or shelves. Their choice also depends on the location and style.

The latest trend in bathroom design is walk-in showers. Yes, yes, those same shower stalls that were previously installed only by desperate owners of apartments of more than modest and compact layout who understand that standard bath not only “eats up” space, but also looks rather ridiculous on the scale of a tiny room. The real boom in the field of plumbing equipment has turned the cubicle from a “means of transportation” into a real “luxury” - and it’s not all about the price. Today, the huge variety and high aesthetics of shower stalls allow them to be used to create an original and ergonomic interior, the stages of development of which will be discussed further.

Shower stall in the bathroom: are you sure this is for you?

To finally make sure that the chosen solution is correct and start developing the design of a bathroom with a shower, weigh the pros and cons one more time.

Pros and cons of shower cabins

Saving “usable” space

Spacious shower cabins, however, are quite wide

Significant water savings

If the water pressure is weak, taking a shower is a difficult process.

Multifunctionality

A shower stall cannot replace a traditional bathtub

Safety – the risk of injury due to the use of “non-slip” materials is reduced to zero

Cumulative in safe embossed material white coating must be removed regularly

Choosing a shower cabin

There are a lot of criteria for choosing a shower stall. It is necessary to take into account its type, size, equipment, design and, of course, the combination of quality and price. Since we are now talking about bathroom design, we will “deal” with the shower cabin from the point of view of its structural design and dimensions.

Shower stalls for small bathrooms

Small bathroom with shower - reasonable and practical solution. True, there is one “but”: you will have to take the selection of a model as seriously as possible, which means that the choice may be delayed. Below is a selection of tips to make finding the “right” solution easier.

  • Particular attention should be paid to corner shower stalls: in a bathroom with a small area you will have to “fight” for almost every square centimeter. The models under consideration will help to make good use of a corner - a space that quickly becomes cluttered and most often does not carry any “meaningful” load in the interior.

  • The smallest area is consumed by corner booths, the tray of which has the shape of a “quarter circle”.

  • A rectangular or square cubicle is also possible in a small bathroom, if there is a niche in the room that is suitable in size and allows for the necessary communications.
  • Preference should be given to booths with sliding (sliding) or folding doors. Hinged doors require free space in front of the entrance.
  • Completely transparent shower cabins look more advantageous in small spaces, since they are visually perceived as lighter. The bathroom doesn't seem so cluttered.
  • The desire to choose the smallest shower stall for a tiny bathroom is understandable. The main thing is not to follow his lead. Minimum size a shower stall in which every family member will feel comfortable is 80x80 cm. Those who do not have this area can install a stationary shower corner.

A stationary shower corner can only be located in the corner of the bathroom, since it has no back walls. Significant space savings will come at the cost of increased complexity in installing the structure. Due to its “openness”, you will have to take care of additional waterproofing of surfaces exposed to moisture.

Installing a stationary shower cabin, in turn, is simple and takes very little time. The hydrobox is installed at the selected location, to which communications have already been connected in advance. After connecting them, the cabin is secured.

If the bathroom is more than modest in size and complex installation work don’t scare us, we recommend choosing a stationary shower.

We wrote more about how to create a stationary shower corner in the bathroom in the article “”.

Shower cubicles for large bathrooms

Owners of spacious bathrooms have much greater freedom when choosing shower cabins - they don’t have to think about saving space and types of doors. This allows you to fully concentrate on the design of the model.

The only advice to owners of spacious bathrooms is to prefer a corner booth to any other if it is planned to install a traditional bathtub in the room in addition to it. This will allow you to use the space most efficiently.

When combining a bathtub and a separate shower in the bathroom, it is worth considering the option of creating a stationary shower corner, which, as a rule, takes away much less valuable centimeters.

If there is not so much space, you can purchase a shower cabin with a bathtub. These are models with a high, spacious tray. Such cabins are usually equipped different types hydromassage and some other functions.

Bathroom with shower: how to organize the space?

Tips for placing shower stalls in large and small baths are, for the most part, the same.

Ergonomic rules: making the design of a bathroom with a shower cabin comfortable

  1. Regardless of whether the stall doors slide or swing open, the free space in front of them must be at least 75 cm. This is the minimum that a person needs to undress before the shower and wrap himself in a towel after leaving the stall.
  2. The minimum distance from the door to the shower stall (if it is installed on the same wall where the opening is located) should be 15 cm.
  3. The minimum distance from the cubicle to other plumbing equipment is 30 cm. If the toilet, bidet or washbasin is placed closer, it will be extremely inconvenient to use them.
  4. The optimal size of a shower stall or corner is 90x90 cm or more.

Placing a shower stall in the bathroom

To make a bathroom with a shower look most advantageous, you should use the following tips. Owners of large bathrooms, however, may not take them into account so strictly.

Square bathroom

— If one of the corners of the bathroom is cut off to form an entrance, the stall is located either in the corner opposite the door, or along one of the walls not adjacent to the door.

— If the door to the bathroom is located in the middle of the wall, the stall is located in any corner or on a wall not opposite the entrance (placement on the wall adjacent to the entrance helps to visually expand the space).

— If the door to the bathroom is located on the side, the stall is usually mounted either opposite the entrance or diagonally from it.

Rectangular bathroom

- In cases where a). one of the corners is cut off to decorate the entrance, b). the entrance is located in the middle or on the side of the “short” wall, c). the entrance is located on the side of the “long wall” - the booth is located in any of the corners “far” from the entrance or along the “far” wall.

— The door is located in the middle of the “long” wall - the booth is located along the “short” side walls or in the corners adjacent to the wall with the entrance.

In a small combined bathroom, the toilet may need to be moved to accommodate the shower stall and sink

How to decorate a bathroom with a shower installed in it? This question often arises both among owners of private houses and among residents of standard city apartments. But in own home Bathrooms are usually spacious, and therefore arranging all the necessary accessories in them is much easier than in a cramped combined bathroom, as well as coming up with a design and finishing. Unfortunately, on the Internet you can most often find sketches and designs for premises, the vast area of which remains a pipe dream for most apartment owners.

A small one with a shower cabin, the design for which is much more difficult to come up with, is almost not discussed. But through this room there are also various engineering communications, requiring a certain camouflage, which also complicates the registration process.

It is about bathrooms with a shower, organized in small areas, about possible difficulties their design, taking into account certain nuances, will be discussed in this publication.

In order for the finished bathroom, fully equipped with all the necessary accessories and finished, to look as originally intended by the owners, it is necessary to carry out preparatory activities, which will organize everything further stages works

Drafting

First of all, a project is drawn up for the bathroom, in which the bath will be replaced with a shower. Usually this process aims to make the room more spacious or combine the bathroom with the toilet, so that, if possible, even expand the kitchen or hallway, depending on the layout of the apartment.

The main task of design is to be able to fit everything you need into a limited area

When developing a preliminary project, you need to remember that it is quite possible that adjustments will have to be made to it in the future after all communication pipes are opened. Masking boxes may be added to the sketch, since, depending on the project, there may be a need to relocate and extend water and sewer pipes.

Preparing the premises

Having thought through and completed on paper an approximate “layout” of the location of all items, you can move on to the next stage of work. It can be carried out in different ways:

  • Removing all old bathroom accessories.
  • Dismantling the partition between the bathroom and toilet, if it is decided to combine them into one room. This process should be carried out only after agreement with regulatory authorities.

Next, after dismantling all the elements, you need to get rid of the debris and thoroughly clean the walls and floor from dust. If the walls are tiled or finished with other decorative materials, they also need to be removed immediately.

If it is decided not to move the toilet, but to leave it in its original place, then it is recommended to dismantle it last. If you can live without a bathroom for some time, then it will be much more difficult to do without a toilet.

Planning and installation of utilities

When the room is free of everything superfluous and unnecessary, it becomes possible to freely inspect the condition of the old pipes and, based on the bathroom design, think about how best to lay out the pipes by making the appropriate drawing.

If the renovation is carried out only in the bathroom, and sewer riser remains in the toilet, it is recommended to hide both the water supply and drainage pipes in the walls. To do this, grooves are cut into which communications are installed - this will also help save some of the space.

In addition, it is recommended to install at least one socket in the bathroom, since very often this element is not enough to turn on a hair dryer. It may also be needed for washing machine, if it is planned to be installed in this room. Electric cable You also need to hide it in the wall, having previously enclosed it in a corrugated tube, and purchase a special socket itself, with increased moisture protection.

After all the pipes and cables have been installed, the grooves are sealed with cement-sand or gypsum plaster mortar.

If the bathroom is combined, then all water supply and sewerage communications are usually combined and compactly mounted near the central sewer riser. It will still not be possible to move it, so the entire communication node can be disguised at once with a plasterboard box.

Particular attention is paid to the method of connecting the shower stall itself to the sewer riser. Some pallets are very low drain pipe, therefore, to connect it to the sewer pipe, you will have to either bury it into the floor or raise the booth itself to the required height. The pallet is raised using special adjustable legs, or a brick pedestal is laid out on which the shower stall is installed.

If the bathroom is combined and a shower cabin is installed instead of a bathtub, then some prefer not to install a box, which can spoil the interior design, but to install a masking wall made of plasterboard with an elegant shutter door. This option is especially suitable when, when combining a bathroom and toilet, the central sewer pipe ends up in the middle of the rear wall of the room.

It is necessary to leave an inspection window so that utility workers have free access to pipes, valves and meters. Well, an elegant door will cover the entire interweaving of pipes, so the door should be selected last, to match all the existing finishing.

It is also necessary to take into account that the inspection window must open freely, which means it cannot be blocked by any bathroom accessory.

In order to create such a wall or box, you will need to purchase a special galvanized metal profile and moisture resistant drywall.

It is recommended that before starting installation of the frame, you need to think carefully, and best of all, even draw the location of each of its elements so that the structure is strong, and the window for access to the pipes is of sufficient size and located in a convenient location.

Waterproofing bathroom surfaces

Even before installing the masking box, after sealing the grooves and removing debris from the room, the floor must be covered with waterproofing. This must be done especially carefully around all pipes of any purpose passing through the ceilings (feed-through sleeves).

When waterproofing, pay special attention to corners and pipe passages

It is very important to waterproof the joints of walls and floors well, covering the walls with the composition to a height of no less than 120÷150 mm, and in places where plumbing fixtures are installed, even above the level of connection points (plumbing “sockets”). In these places, a special sealing tape must be glued, and only after these strips have dried, it is necessary to cover the entire surface of the floor with a waterproofing compound.

The future bathroom is completely waterproofed

Waterproofing will save apartment owners from unnecessary troubles if emergency situation, from which, unfortunately, it is impossible to completely insure yourself. Water spilled on the floor surface will not flow to neighbors living on the lower floors. To prevent water from leaving the bathroom, the door must be equipped with a threshold, which also needs to be waterproofed.

Waterproofing the bathroom floor – the most important stage renovation!

There are several types of materials used for these purposes. A special publication on our portal will help you understand their diversity, choose the most optimal one and become familiar with the main technological methods of implementation.

How to choose a shower stall

Having prepared the room for the installation of all the necessary accessories, you can start choosing a shower stall. In order not to be mistaken with the dimensions, you must first take accurate measurements of the area where the cabin is planned to be installed, and accurately determine the area that can be allocated for it.

Moreover, if you plan to purchase a booth, even if it has an almost triangular shape in plan with a small semicircular protrusion, then you should still take a square as a basis. The model you like in the store should be measured there from all sides, so that at home you can transfer these dimensions to the place for installing the cabin.

Prices for River shower enclosure

River shower corner

Currently, the assortment of specialty stores offers a variety of shower stalls - from the simplest to those equipped with numerous additional options. Naturally, their prices also vary widely. In addition, they can be different types, shapes made from various materials.

Shower stalls are mainly divided into two types based on their basic design - open and closed. What they are should be of interest first of all.

Open showers

Open showers are those that are limited by side walls but do not have a ceiling.

There can be two or three walls in the booths of open models; they can be installed in the front part of the structure and against the walls. In addition, there are options that have only front walls, which are attached to a frame mounted on the wall.

Such cabin models are considered economy class products, since they are mainly equipped only basic set functions. They are often also called “shower enclosures”. Booths that do not have rear walls require enhanced sealing at the junction of the pallet with the wall, the same as during installation regular bath.

The absence of some additional functions is also explained by the fact that they will be useless in a structure of this type, since it does not have a ceiling, and, for example, “aromatherapy” or “sauna” will be effective only in an enclosed space.

Open booths are produced that can be installed without a pallet, but such models should still not be installed in high-rise apartments, since even if high-quality waterproofing is done, there is a possibility of flooding of the lower floor apartments.

In addition, the floor will have to be raised with a screed by at least 70 ÷ 80 mm in order to lay the waste pipe in this layer and mount the drain. Such a screed, even without taking into account the still necessary finishing of the floor, will significantly increase the weight of the floor structure, which can be extremely dangerous, especially for old houses.

It is not advisable to purchase a booth with a tray that has low sides, as this can also lead to flooding of the lower floors.

The only way to correct the situation (except for the screed) is to install the pallet in a well-waterproofed podium, which is usually made of brick. It is already possible to hide the drain pipe in it and lead it to the sewer, observing the obligatory slope of 2 - 3 degrees.

It is better to use such options for bathrooms of private houses, when the water from the pan is immediately drained into the sewer pipe.

Closed cabins

Closed type showers are otherwise called boxes. They differ from shower enclosures in that they have a tray, walls on all sides and a roof. Such cubicle cabins can be equipped with only the main function - a shower, or be multifunctional.

They are given a variety of shapes - in plan they can be a rectangle, circle, semicircle, triangle, etc. Their dimensions along the perimeter or diameter depend on the parameters of the pallets, which, in turn, can also differ in height and material of manufacture.

Bath with shower

Another option that will take up not much more space in the room than a regular bathtub. This is a whole complex that allows you to lie in hot water and relax or invigorate with a shower.

“Symbiosis” of bath and shower

This compact accessory is produced in different variations, and can be equipped only with a shower or have many other functions, including original lighting and even the ability to listen to music.

Sometimes such a cabin can have a rectangular shape, like a regular bath. There are also corner options, but they will require more space than a standard accessory.

Homemade shower cabins

Such a shower cabin can be built by the apartment owner himself, but it would still be better to purchase a ready-made shower tray. Of course, you can fold it yourself, but you shouldn’t load the ceiling - it’s enough to make a podium around the perimeter from brick.

Two walls or one, as planned by the designer, can be made of brick and covered with tiles or built from glass blocks.

The size of a homemade shower stall will depend on which tray is suitable for a particular room.

On sale you can find glass blocks that have different color and textured pattern, so you can choose them to suit every taste. These elements are also quite easy to install - the main thing is to constantly monitor the verticality of the masonry.

All that’s left to do is build a partition

Installing walls in a bathroom is almost the same as erecting partitions from different materials, including glass blocks. How - read in a special publication of the portal.

Shower trays

As mentioned above, the tray determines the shape of the shower stall. It can be square, rectangular, triangular, oval, or have an asymmetrical shape. Another defining parameter of this element in the cabin design is depth. Pallets can be deep - up to 450 mm, shallow - from 100 to 180 mm, and flat, only 30 mm deep.

Typically, pallets are equipped with an anti-slip textured coating. They are selected according to color, which should be in perfect harmony with all the accessories of the cabin or with color scheme interior design of walls, floors and ceilings.

Pallets are made from different materials - it can be cast iron, steel or acrylic.

  • Cast iron enameled pallets are highly reliable and can be installed on a steel frame or a brick podium. They are perfect for homemade shower stalls.

  • Steel pallets They are also covered with enamel, but they are less durable, since they have thin walls. When installing them on a frame or an empty podium inside while taking a shower, the sound of falling water will be very loud. Therefore, in such cases it is recommended to coat the back side of the pallet polyurethane foam, which will create a noise-absorbing layer. Steel pallets are less durable than cast iron, but if handled carefully they will last at least 10–12 years.

Steel pallets are inexpensive and quite practical with careful care

  • Acrylic trays have recently become the most popular, as this material is highly hygienic, pleasant and quite warm to the touch. The acrylic tray is lightweight and quite durable if installed properly. If scratches appear on it, they can be easily rubbed off with fine-grained sandpaper.

The shallow tray is mounted in a special frame. If this option is chosen for a homemade shower stall, then a podium must be installed for it, exactly according to the shape of the bottom.

Some trays can also be used as a shallow bathtub. In such varieties it will be necessary to install a “drain-overflow” system.

  • It is possible to build homemade pallet, if it is small around the perimeter and in height, that is, it will not overload the ceiling. For cladding it is recommended to use mosaic tiles, as it will create a non-slip surface.

When embedding a sewer pipe into a homemade pan, you must remember that it must be located at a slope of at least 2 ÷ 3 degrees.

Shower walls and doors

These protective elements shower cabins are made of impact-resistant glass or acrylic. Acrylic walls and doors can have varying degrees of transparency and vary in color, but glass is easier to clean, since water does not linger on it and quickly drains without leaving marks. In addition, it does not become cloudy over time, unlike clear acrylic panels.

Doors in the shower can be hinged or sliding, consisting of two or four leaves. Sliding type has more doors high degree tightness in closed position. The doors move using rollers and do not require extra space to open them.

Prices for popular shower cabins

When choosing a booth with a hinged door design, you will need to think in advance about installing other accessories in the bathroom, since they should not interfere with the doors, otherwise they can be accidentally damaged.

Additional functions of shower cabins

A few words need to be said about the additional functions of shower cabins, since some of them are also reflected in the interior design.

  • Backlight. The finished shower cabin can be equipped with lighting, which is carried out using special waterproof lighting fixtures. This feature allows you to shower without turning on the main lighting in the bathroom. In addition, specially designed lighting has a therapeutic effect on the human condition (in medicine this concept is called chromotherapy).

In this case, the lighting can come not only from the walls and ceiling of the cabin, but also the streams of water coming out of the shower head are colored. Colors can be changed using the remote control, depending on your mood and which body system should be affected.

  • Aromatherapy. This function allows you to fill the cabin with aromas with healing effects. To achieve this effect, steam and water are passed through a chamber containing an aromatic balm. The aromatherapy function can only be installed in cabins closed type, otherwise the desired effect will not be achieved.
  • Tropical shower. This function simulates heavy rain, and this effect is achieved using a specially installed nozzle in the ceiling of the cabin. “Tropical shower” relaxes muscles and nervous system, so it is recommended to take it before bed.

The “tropical shower” nozzle is usually mounted in the roof of the shower stall

  • Contrast shower. This function has the opposite direction: if a summer shower relaxes, then a contrasting one will invigorate and increase efficiency. During the procedures, cold and hot water are automatically supplied alternately in a predetermined temperature range.
  • Hydromassage. Hydromassage devices can be horizontal and vertical. A horizontal hydromassage can be installed in a deep tray, which is essentially a whirlpool bath.

Vertical hydromassage is the one for which nozzles supplying air and water flows are installed on the side walls of the cabin. The quality and variety of available massage functions depends on the number and location of nozzles. Hydromassage can improve well-being, normalize blood circulation and have a positive effect on intestinal function.

  • Turkish bath. If this function is provided in the booth, then inside it you can create a special microclimate with 100% humidity at a temperature of 40÷60 degrees. This option is achieved using a steam generator that generates and dissipates steam inside the cabin.

It should be noted that in order to achieve the effect of the hydromassage function and create the microclimate of the Turkish bath, the pressure in water pipes should be no less than 2÷3 Bar.

In addition to these functions, shower cabins can also be equipped with voice control, music, detergent dispensers and much more.

When purchasing a shower stall with an abundance of different functions, you must immediately expect high energy consumption. Connecting the cabin to electricity must be done with a separate cable, which must be grounded, so you should invite a specialist for installation and connection.

Is it possible to install a shower stall yourself?

Practice shows that this is a rather difficult, but still quite feasible task. Advice on this is given in an article on our portal specifically dedicated to this issue.

Bathroom finishing

The surfaces of a bathroom with a shower stall installed in it are most often tiled with ceramic tiles, since this material is ideal for this room. However, there are other options.

Wall decoration with plastic panels

The range of PVC panels is very diverse

For finishing the walls in the bathroom, they are perfect large assortment can be found in construction stores. An important condition for their installation is the maximum possible evenness of the wall surfaces. This is necessary especially if the bathroom space is very small and installation will have to be done using glue.

The advantage of choosing plastic panels is that they are more affordable and any novice craftsman can install them, and this is especially important for saving money, of which quite a lot is spent during repairs.

An important condition for the quality of installation of this material is the tight connection of the panels to each other and careful sealing of all joints.

The most “budget” option for wall decoration in the bathroom is PVC panels

Upon purchase quality panels and following the technology of their installation, you will get a beautiful, durable, hygienic coating that will last for many years. How to do it yourself - in a special publication on our portal.

“Classic” wall decoration – ceramic tiles

Cladding with ceramic tiles is a more labor-intensive job, since you need to master the technology of its laying. Therefore, in order to get an impeccable result, you often have to invite a master veneerer, and his work will not be cheap. It is especially important to carry out the process according to all the rules if you intend to decorate the walls with tiles with an ornamental image or fit panels into the main masonry.

If you still decide to try your hand at this work, then the walls will need to be leveled to perfection. This task can be dealt with by using sheets of plasterboard, which are mounted on the wall using a construction adhesive mixture. Such leveling is possible if the walls do not have excessively large differences. For surfaces in the bathroom, only moisture-resistant plasterboard with a green front surface is used.

Use drywall to level the walls!

Ideally smooth gypsum plasterboards will level the surface and become a good basis for further finishing, including tiling with ceramic tiles. In conditions limited space bathroom is more advantageous, directly to the surface. How this is done is in a separate article on the portal.

Floor finishing

The floor in the bathroom can be tiled with ceramic tiles, covered with a moisture-resistant laminate, or decorated with a self-leveling epoxy coating.

Ceramic tiles on the floor must also be laid skillfully, otherwise level differences may form. This will not look aesthetically pleasing, and in addition, it can lead to injuries, since it is easy to trip on the protruding tiles or scratch your foot.

If the shower tray has low sides, then the floor covering is made only from ceramic tiles.

Tiling the floor - how difficult is it?

The process cannot be called simple, but if you strictly follow all the technological recommendations, you can do it yourself. To decide on it, it is recommended to study the special publication of our portal.

  • The floor can be decorated with laminate if a closed shower stall with high tray walls is installed. With this option, the risk of water overflowing and hitting the floor surface will be much lower.

Laminate has an advantage over ceramic tiles in that its surface is much warmer and less traumatic, which is very important when getting out of the shower.

The “disadvantage” of this coating can be called more short term its operation. But if you purchase material with a higher resistance class, lay it and use it carefully, and do not walk on such a floor in shoes with hard soles, then laminated coating can last quite a long time.

  • A self-leveling epoxy or polymer floor is suitable for a bathroom that has a shower stall with any tray, since it performs two functions at once - both waterproofing and decorative coating. The disadvantage of this type of floor is that to install it you will have to invite a professional, whose work will be quite expensive. And the set of materials for such filling itself will cost a “good” amount.

A modern approach to finishing a bathroom - self-leveling epoxy flooring

A self-leveling polymer floor with patterns, fillers or even a three-dimensional design will look very advantageous in the bathroom. In addition, the problem of waterproofing is immediately completely solved. To learn more about the technology and evaluate your capabilities, read the special publication of the portal.

Design options for bathrooms with shower

To imagine what they might look like different options shower cabins in the interior of small bathrooms standard apartments, it is proposed to consider several possible design solutions more details.

Option No. 1

IN in this case a combined bathroom is located in a room whose area is usually reserved only for the bathroom.

The compact arrangement of all the necessary elements contributed to the fact that a fairly large area of the room remained free. For this purpose, a simple compact shower cabin without additional functions with a medium-depth tray was chosen, so it does not weigh down the interior. Its matte-transparent walls, as well as a mirror that reflects the opposite wall, help expand the space.

For the walls and floor, two types of light-colored tiles were used, which harmonize perfectly with each other. As decorative decoration A narrow ceramic border with an ornament was used that includes both colors used in the interior, which simultaneously unites and separates them.

Light colors and floor tiles laid diagonally, visually expands the room.

To prevent the room from appearing narrow due to the height of the ceiling, white tiles are laid not to the entire height of the wall, but in the form of a wide insert, which is framed by a narrow border of ornamental tiles. The upper part of the walls is decorated with a strip of the same color as the lower part of the interior - this seems to make the ceiling lower, and the room does not seem too narrow. Combining color between floor planes and panels also expands the space.

The central sewer pipe has a shelf design that is not only functional, but also fits perfectly into the design.

We can say about this interior that the designer thought through every detail of its design - from the color scheme to the placement of all accessories. Moreover, a space has been prudently left where, if desired, the apartment owner can easily install a washing machine and secure a towel rack.

Option No. 2

In this case, free space in the bathroom appeared due to the combination of two rooms - the bathroom and the toilet. When demolishing the wall between these rooms, part of it was prudently preserved for converting it into a partition medium height separating the bath and toilet areas. The compactness of this element makes it almost invisible in the interior; moreover, its preservation made it possible to preserve the location of the heated towel rail, which was simply replaced with a smaller version.

The interior uses two shades of the same warm color, which makes the room lighter, and the white ceiling echoes the interior elements, which look like light spots against the background of a dark orange tone. The border separating the color zones is a kind of “highlight” that adds aesthetics to the design and emphasizes the panel area.

Such a color scheme, although thought out in warm sunny tones, still requires more intense lighting, since the dark orange tint of the panels and floor does not support it, but rather absorbs it. Therefore, only the white ceiling and accessories located on a dark background look like light spots.

For this bathroom, a compact, simple shower cabin without additional functions with transparent walls was chosen, which contributes to the effect of expanding the space, and the rounded shape of its doors softens the lines of the interior. Smooth lines and warm colors can make a person feel relaxed, which is good for evening hours, when water procedures are taken before bedtime, but it does not at all contribute to the mood for increased performance.

It should be noted that such a design is not well thought out in terms of color scheme, since the room requires additional lighting. The arrangement of all interior elements is successful, quite compact and occupies a small area. The rest of the room can be used to install other traditional bathroom items and appliances.

Option No. 3

The interior in this case is made in cool colors. Although the room is quite bright and does not require additional lighting, the chosen gray and white finish looks rather dull and “official”. There is thoughtful neatness in the interior, thanks to the rational arrangement of all accessories, however, it seems to be absent home comfort. If selected facing material of this shade and the room is already decorated in a similar style, then a rug of a bright warm color placed on the floor and a colored panel on the wall will help correct the situation. These details will add warmth, comfort and light to a dull, monochromatic interior.

The layout of the room is successful, but the design style is somewhat “cold”

TO positive aspects This design can be attributed to the horizontal arrangement provided by the designer rectangular tiles on the walls and diagonally on the floor. This solution visually expands the space and makes the room more voluminous.

In the option under consideration, a shower cabin has been chosen, which has a massive shape and a greater number of functions. It is the center of the interior and the first one, upon entering the room, attracts attention, and the remaining elements seem to support its presence, filling the space.

In general, the interior is decorated with professional precision and calculation. The only drawback is its monotony and coldness of color.

Option No. 4

This small bathroom is located in small apartment, the so-called “Khrushchev”. Having this small room, you have to think through the installation of each of the elements with special care, and the shower cabin with its compactness can be called the only rational solution.

Managed to fit literally “on the spot”

In this interior, despite its small area, the sewer line and pipes running next to it are perfectly camouflaged with the help of a built-in duct. Moreover, the box fits perfectly into the design, without standing out and, it would seem, not taking up space at all. The shower stall successfully found its place between the wall and the protruding part of the box. Although it does not look compact in a small room, it looks very aesthetically pleasing and neat. Semicircular sliding doors the booths have frosted glass, and this additionally contributes to the visual expansion of the space, since they close the corner of the room in which the booth is installed, thereby blurring the wall boundary.

The premises are decorated in light colors, and for this purpose a tile the color of baked milk was used. This approach, together with the white color of all accessories, enhances the lighting of the room.

In the interior shown, the area is used as rationally as possible with a well-chosen color and arrangement of all the elements necessary for this room.

Option No. 5

Another room that seems to make it impossible to place in it everything necessary for hygiene procedures. However, the skillful designer did an excellent job here too, choosing compact accessories and successfully placing them in the space.

There was even room in the room for a pencil case, a washing machine and a mobile bedside table, on which they could comfortably fit detergents and towels.

Moreover, a shower cabin was chosen for this bathroom, which has a deep tray that can be used almost like a full-fledged bathtub. In addition, the cabin is equipped with additional functions, as well as a seat, which makes water procedures as comfortable as possible.

The walls and floors were decorated using ceramic tiles of contrasting colors. The panels are covered with dark blue cladding material, and the upper part of the wall is made white, which makes a small room that does not have natural light quite bright. A narrow border, separating two colors and having them in its ornament, softens the sharp transition from the dark lower area of the wall to its upper, light part.

We can say about this interior that it contains everything necessary for receiving procedures. Moreover, despite the small space, quite a lot of space is left for free passage to any of the accessories.

In conclusion, I would like to note that in order for the interior created in the bathroom to be used for as long as possible, it is very important to carry out preliminary preparation room, and also choose the right accessories for it. Having followed all the recommendations for arranging this room, the owners will receive a comfortable bathroom that will last for decades.

At the end of the publication - one more interesting option design design bathroom with installation of a shower stall.

And if a shower is required for a summer residence or country house, where use occurs only one season a year, then a DIY shower is an excellent solution.

When creating a shower, you can use various materials that meet the desired characteristics.

Shower materials

In order to start making a shower with your own hands, you need to think through everything down to the smallest detail. You should start with the room itself; it must be insulated, have waterproofing, as well as a well-thought-out water drainage system.

There are a lot of options for creating a shower, but basically, to make your tasks easier, you purchase a ready-made shower tray. Such pallets are installed indoors, and the cabin is made from available materials.

Ceramic tiles

Tile good material for a homemade shower stall, it meets all operating requirements. Tiles come in many colors and sizes.

To create a shower from ceramic tiles, you can use a tray, or when laying out the tiles, make a slope directly into the floor.

PVC panels

PVC panels are used for final finishing inside the shower stall. The material is quite unpretentious and has good operational properties, however, such material is short-lived.

Polycarbonate

This material has a lot color solutions, is budget-friendly and durable. The interior looks quite interesting.

The polycarbonate is installed on a metal corner and the joints should be sealed. It has proven itself well in operation, with proper care.

If the finished pallets do not fit in size, or you simply are not satisfied, you can make a pallet yourself.

There are several ways to make a pallet. The simplest is a pallet made of brick. If this method is chosen, then be sure to use roofing felt as waterproofing. You can use concrete to create a pallet, but this method takes longer.

To make showering comfortable, communications need to be established at the initial stage. If there is no central water supply, then a well with an electric pump is suitable for these purposes, which will supply cold water when opening the tap.

And for hot water, you can hang a water heater, to which you also need to supply cold water. A self-made shower with cold and hot water is the pride of the owner of the house. And taking hygiene procedures in such a shower is a pleasure.

Whatever construction and finishing material would not have been chosen, as well as a shower tray, the main thing is the presence of a drain made at an angle. Also special attention It is necessary to pay attention to waterproofing the floor and walls in the shower.

If the inner surface of the walls and floor in the shower will be tiled, you should start tiling two rows away from the floor and install supports. After all the tiles have been laid, grout should be used.
