How to make a fabric stretch ceiling yourself. DIY fairy ceiling made of fabric

An increasing number of people prefer stretch ceilings made from organic fabrics. The fact is that such canvases are durable and do not require specialized care. Besides, suspended ceilings made of fabric fit harmoniously into the interior of any room. Pin suspended structure possible in several ways. Before you begin installation, you need to install a specialized frame.

Fabric stretch ceilings must be installed on specialized baguettes. To install fabric on the ceiling, a baguette clip is most often used. However, this fastening is only suitable for seamless fabrics. In other cases, it is more advisable to use glazing beads. It is much easier to install the glazing bead system yourself.

Baguettes differ in the material from which they are made. Fastening elements can be made of plastic or aluminum. If your budget is not limited, it is recommended to give preference to aluminum baguettes, as they are more reliable and durable.

Baguette installation technology:

  1. Level the ceiling. If necessary, apply primer and putty to the surface. Be sure to repair large potholes with sealant. Only after the preliminary finishing is completed can you begin installing the baguette.
  2. Give the baguette the desired size. To do this, use a hacksaw.
  3. Drill holes in the walls.
  4. Place the baguette against the wall.
  5. Make holes in the wall. To do this, use a hammer drill.
  6. Secure the baguette using specialized dowels. Only after this you need to install the fabric cloth.

After the installation of the baguette is completed, you can begin to tension the canvas. Before starting work, make sure the integrity of the drapery. You also need to make sure the frame is strong and prepare the necessary tools.

If you plan to install fabric in rooms with high humidity, for example, in a basement or bathroom, then use a wedge-shaped fastening system made of plastic.

The procedure for installing the fabric sheet:

  • Place the edge of the canvas into the baguette. At the same time, remember that approximately 10 centimeters of drapery should protrude outward.
  • Using a blade, secure the canvas.
  • Stretch the fabric evenly in other areas of the room.
  • Trim off excess fabric using a hacksaw.
  • Cover the baguette with a special decorative plinth.

We carry out repairs of old fabric stretch ceilings

Repairing a fabric ceiling is a simple process. Repairing such a structure is much easier than suspended ceilings made of PVC or plasterboard. Before starting repairs, you should dismantle the tension fabric.

If you are flooded by your upstairs neighbors, it is not necessary to dismantle the canvas. It is enough to carefully unscrew the lamp and drain the water through the resulting hole. Don't forget to turn off the electricity first.

Procedure for dismantling the structure:

  1. Turn off the electricity.
  2. Unscrew the light bulbs.
  3. Using a spatula, bend the profile. If you used plastic blades, then you need to first remove the inserts and only then bend the profile.
  4. Remove the canvas.

Installation of Clipso seamless fabric ceilings

Cloths made by the French company Clipso are very popular due to their beautiful appearance and durability. In addition, installation of such canvases is carried out in a matter of hours.

Before installing a seamless ceiling, you need to treat the walls and ceiling. It is recommended to degrease the surfaces and seal all cracks. If desired, apply a primer coat to the walls and ceiling. If you install seamless ceilings V wooden house, then treat the surface with an antiseptic solution.

The procedure for installing a seamless ceiling:

  • Install baguettes on the walls.
  • Secure the canvas with a baguette clip. Remember that the fabric should protrude from the baguette by 7-8 centimeters.
  • Secure the fabric around the entire perimeter of the room. Make sure that the canvas is symmetrical.
  • Remove all wrinkles on the canvas using a hair dryer.
  • Trim off excess fabric using a hacksaw.

Do-it-yourself ceiling drapery with fabric: characteristics and advantages

Draping the base surface using fabrics is interesting design solution. Using this finishing method you can decorate almost any room. Due to the variety of textures and colors, fabrics can be used to decorate a room designed in any style.

The canvas can be made from:

  1. Flax. This drapery will look elegant and discreet.
  2. Silks. Canvas made from of this material, it is advisable to use it for finishing the ceiling if your room is designed in a classic style.
  3. Cotton. This drapery will fit perfectly into the interior of the bedroom.
  4. Juta.
  5. Canvas.
  6. Velvet.

If you decide to use a fabric made of silk, jute or canvas, then it can be secured with glue. Remember that the glue must be applied to the ceiling thin layer. After you apply the fabric to the ceiling, smooth the fabric with a dry cloth. This technique will help you avoid the appearance of wrinkles and unevenness.

Advantages of drapery:

  • The fabrics retain heat perfectly.
  • The drapery does not deform over time.
  • The canvases do not require special care.
  • Installation is quick. In addition, installation does not require the use of a heat gun.
  • Drapery will help hide cosmetic defects of the base surface.

Fabric-draped ceiling design (video)

Installation tension fabric on the ceiling - a simple process. The main thing is to choose a suitable baguette and fabric texture. If you decide to install such a structure yourself, then install communications in the ceiling space in advance and eliminate unevenness on the base surface. When choosing color range and texture of the canvas, be guided by your own preferences and room design.

Today we will talk about the installation of fabric stretch ceilings, and also understand the features of this time-proven material.

New technologies - new opportunities

Like everything in the world, construction technologies don't stand still. Many still remember the first proposals for the installation of suspended ceilings, and how the novelty soon became one of the standard decorative elements in the renovation and decoration of premises.

A huge advantage of such ceilings is the wide selection of shades and colors that allow you to select the canvas to suit your needs. different interior and for almost any room. Possibilities of modern photo printing, which is used in the production of suspended ceilings. We have reached such a level that we can purchase ceilings of various styles.

Vinyl - main advantages

Before describing fabric ceilings, let's first talk a little about its direct competitor made of vinyl. This stretch ceiling is essentially a vinyl film.

The fact that vinyl is not afraid of water is its undeniable advantage; it is easier to make. Imagine that after a renovation has just been completed, a leak appears in the apartment due to a forgotten open tap or a burst pipe in the neighbors above. The repair will be ruined.

Nervous tension when talking with neighbors, spoiled mood, household items and the need for new repairs - all this can be avoided if a high-quality stretch ceiling is installed. Water will simply collect on it, it will bend, and after the water is drained, it will return to its original shape.

Our information is that a stretch vinyl ceiling can withstand 100 kg per m2.

But of course, like any element, a vinyl ceiling is not without its drawbacks. First of all, this relates to certain skills when selecting and installing it.

Installation - main difficulties

As for installation, this is not an idle question. Of course, a person who decided to install a vinyl stretch ceiling himself most likely has certain construction skills. It will not be difficult for him to drill holes for fastenings and mount baguettes.

  • But then you will need to use certain installation techniques and have a special tool.
  • While almost everyone has a hammer drill, screwdrivers, keys and knives, not everyone has a special spatula for threading vinyl. Of course, you can purchase it in a specialized store or make it yourself, but then the question arises, where to get a heat gun?
  • During installation, you will need to raise the temperature of the canvas to 40°C to increase its elasticity.
  • Purchasing such a tool for installing one ceiling is completely unprofitable and makes no sense, since the price of this unit is quite high.
  • It’s worth adding one important point to this: if you violated the technology during installation, you run a high risk of getting untidy folds on its surface.

Fabric ceiling is your right choice

It is much easier to install a fabric stretch ceiling with your own hands, which will be discussed later. Anyone with the desire and a little skill in handling standard home craftsman tools can mount and install fabric ceilings with their own hands.

Installation – the most important thing is strength and practicality

To make a stretch ceiling we will use calico. Why?

The main difference between calico lies in the method of its production. Cotton threads are woven using a special linen method, which adds strength. Clothes made from calico are practical and can withstand numerous washes without loss of quality, shape and color.

The issue with the material has been resolved. Before purchasing it, you need to measure the ceiling to determine the amount of material to purchase.

Advice! Don’t try to simplify the task and measure the floor instead of the ceiling, hoping for the same results. Sometimes the walls have significant differences, which can play a cruel joke - the fabric is like PVC film you won't stretch it. We take a margin of 7-8 centimeters for each wall.

You need to purchase undyed calico, with a rough structure. This is much cheaper and better for further processing of the ceiling. Typically, specialized stores sell calico 1.5 meters wide.

Installation tools

The material has been purchased, it is necessary to prepare the tools and additional materials.

We will need:

  • Construction stapler;

  • Hammer or drill— it all depends on the material from which your walls are made;

  • Stationery knife and scissors;

  • Level— it is best to use laser or water;

  • Dyeing thread;

  • Tension tool.

Materials

From the materials we will need:

  • Calico fabric.

  • Wooden blocks measuring 40x50 or 50x50 mm. Their total length should be equal to the perimeter of the room in which the suspended ceiling is installed.

  • Anchor. Their size and quantity directly depend on the room and the material from which its walls are made. In any case, the bars secured with their help must hold firmly.

  • Assembly adhesive. An ordinary shoemaker works well.

  • Tracing paper.
  • PVA glue.

Installation process

It is worth noting that when installing suspended fabric ceilings, installation is best done with an assistant.

  • First, from the existing fabric you need to sew a panel the size of your ceiling, leaving an appropriate margin for fastening; 100 - 150 mm will be quite enough.
  • The next stage is attaching the bars to the walls around the perimeter of the room. To do this, you must first draw a horizontal line on the walls along which they will be installed.

  • First, using a level, we find the lowest point of the existing ceiling.
  • We step back the required distance from it and transfer it to the remaining corners.
  • Next, using a dye thread, we connect the marks, forming even horizontal lines.

Do-it-yourself fabric ceiling involves making holes for anchors. Special care is important here.

  • First, use a marker to number the bars in the order in which they were installed.
  • After this, drill in each required quantity holes for fastening anchors.
  • Next, apply the bars one at a time to the line marked on the wall and through drilled holes make marks.
  • Thus, the holes on the bars and the wall will completely coincide.
  • We drill holes in the wall according to the marked marks.

Our help - We repeat, it all depends on the material from which your walls are made. Some people may have walls made of wood, in which case attaching the bars will not be a particular problem for them. Anchors are not required here; strong self-tapping screws of appropriate length will be sufficient.

Someone may doubt the advisability of using anchors and want to simplify the task of installing the bars using wooden or plastic dowels (chops) and screws. This option is not suitable because it is good for fastening elements in which the load is located strictly vertically - from top to bottom.

In our case, in addition to the vertical load, there is also a horizontal load associated with the tension of the panel, so anchors are justified. Now you can attach the bars. Since they are numbered, this will not be difficult.

Stretch fabric ceilings - installation of supporting beams

Unlike a vinyl stretch ceiling, which has four corners attached at once, we need to secure the panel on one side. We start with the longest wall of the room.

  • Assembly glue is applied to the bars and the panel is secured using a stapler.
  • In the future, the staples will be hidden with a baguette.
  • You need to start strictly from the middle and evenly stretch the fabric, moving towards the edges.
  • Next, the fabric is attached to the opposite wall - here you will definitely need an assistant.

Our advice is to make a device in the form of a mop before installation. It is made from a metal rod with a diameter of 20 - 25 mm. The result is a kind of letter T. For convenience, bend the handle to form two parallel rods adjacent to each other.

  • Let's start from the middle.
  • Spread glue on the bars.
  • Attach the fabric to the block and press it with a device at the corner of the joint with the wall. This is where the extra 100 - 150 mm left will come in handy.
  • Pull the free part while holding the tool. The cloth will stretch. At this time, the assistant will shoot him with a stapler.
  • After removing the device, you can shoot again - closer to the wall.
  • This way the entire side is covered.
  • Make sure that there are no wrinkles in the fabric.
  • After that, attach all the other sides.
  • The main thing is to move from the center to the edges.

“Installation of a fabric stretch ceiling” video will help you become more familiar with the described process.

Finishing the canvas

Of course, it’s good if there is a panel without seams of the appropriate size. As a rule, when installing fabric ceilings. The fabric has to be sewn. So it's time to hide the seams.

Hiding the seams

For this we will use tracing paper. But first, let's prepare the glue.

  • To do this, you need to cook the paste - you can easily find the recipe on the Internet.
  • Add PVA glue to the resulting paste in an amount of 1/3 of the volume of liquid.
  • The mixture is thoroughly stirred.
  • Next, you need to bring our glue to the state of very liquid sour cream. To do this, simply add the required amount of water while stirring constantly.
  • Be very careful when gluing tracing paper onto the seams.
  • The strips of tracing paper are glued overlapping.

Our advice is to make the edges of the tracing paper and overlaps invisible, bend them when gluing so that they do not stick to the fabric. When the glue has dried, carefully tear off the edges so that the tracing paper on the edges becomes thinner and the seams become completely invisible.

  • To obtain high-quality joints, the edges can be processed with sandpaper or scratch paper.
  • After processing, the seams are covered with PVA glue and the ceiling is left for final drying. At this time, you can stick on the baguettes.
  • When the glue has completely dried, you can prime the surface with a primer and paint it with a special paint.
  • It is better to apply the paint in several layers, allowing each layer to dry.

A detailed examination of the video instructions about the installation of fabric stretch ceilings allows you to fully master all operations.

If you have a question about mounting a chandelier or other lamps, then in this case everything is done exactly the same as in any stretch ceiling - first the thermal rings are glued with special glue, and then the fabric inside them is cut through.

Almost everyone can install fabric stretch ceilings with their own hands, the main thing is desire and accuracy in work. When the ceiling is ready, you can begin finishing it, but we will talk about this in other articles. Best wishes.

None high-quality repairs does not bypass the ceiling decoration. To give the ceiling an individual, luxurious look, many people use seamless fabric stretch ceilings. Let's consider their features and installation technology.

Contents of the article:

Fabric stretch ceilings are a modern alternative to whitewash, wallpaper and ceiling tiles. Production volumes of fabric ceilings are growing, because... the demand for them is constantly increasing. And this is not just a tribute to fashion. This type of surface finishing has some advantages over legacy technologies, but also has some limitations in application and special installation principles.

Advantages and disadvantages of fabric stretch ceilings

All positive and negative aspects fabric suspended ceilings are explained by the technology of their production and the characteristics of the materials used. It is taken as a basis synthetic fabric or fabric of natural origin, which is impregnated with polyurethane.

Polyurethane, in turn, has wide application. It is used in almost all industrial areas as a sealant, rubber substitute, and impregnation that improves the strength characteristics of the base material. The operation of polyurethane products is limited to the temperature range - from -60 to +80 degrees.

The advantages of fabric stretch ceilings are obvious:

  • Increased heat resistance. Thanks to this characteristic, fabric-based stretch ceilings can be installed even in rooms that are partially or completely unheated. The product does not deform or collapse under significant temperature changes.
  • Absence of connecting seams on the ceiling canvas. The width of fabric sheets for suspended ceilings reaches 5 meters. Therefore, the ceilings in rooms whose width does not exceed this length are seamless.
  • The increased strength of the canvas provides protection from mechanical damage. During operation, the ceiling does not sag.
  • Durability. Service life - at least 10 years.
  • The moderate elasticity of the material facilitates the installation of a stretch ceiling.
  • Fabric ceilings have micropores that allow air to pass through them, so the ceiling surface will breathe. This in turn, in some cases, prevents the development of fungus.
  • Do not use during installation thermal equipment, therefore, installing fabric stretch ceilings is a simpler process compared to installing stretch ceilings made of PVC film. All work is carried out without generating construction waste. The installation speed is quite high, for example, installing a stretch ceiling in a room with an area of 25 m2 is carried out in 3-4 hours.
  • The fabric material for finishing the ceiling can be painted, photo printed on it, thereby changing appearance rooms. Three-dimensional drawings, which look simply incredible on the ceiling, are very popular.
  • Environmental friendliness. This characteristic is due to the use of safe, non-toxic materials in the production of canvases.
  • Space saving. Stretch ceilings steal only 3-4 cm of height, while suspended ceiling- 10 cm or more. This small space enough to hide electrical communications and defects in the plane of the main ceiling.
The disadvantages of fabric-based suspended ceilings are as follows:
  1. The material of fabric stretch ceilings is quite strong, but if a small area is damaged, the entire structure will have to be replaced, sometimes along with the fasteners.
  2. If the size of the room exceeds 5 meters in width, then one canvas will not be enough. In this case, it becomes necessary to join the fabric sheets; for this, a special baguette is used. Thus, the joints will be very noticeable, but they can be played up with the help of extraordinary design solutions.
  3. The fabric base of suspended ceilings absorbs odors, so it is not recommended to install such ceilings in sanitary rooms and kitchens.
  4. Unlike film stretch ceilings, fabric ceilings are only available in a matte finish. The range of colors is also small.

Manufacturers of fabric stretch ceilings

The main producing countries of suspended ceilings are Germany, Switzerland, France and Russia. The most popular fabric stretch ceilings are Cerutti, Clipso and Deskor, high quality which is confirmed by numerous certificates. Ceiling manufacturers are constantly improving technology, bringing the latest developments to life.

French stretch ceilings made of Clipso fabric

The basis for the production of Clipso stretch fabric ceilings is synthetic knitted fabric, which is impregnated with a polymer composition. Such fabrics are considered safe for human health; all regulations are followed during their production. sanitary requirements, as well as norms fire safety. Therefore, the manufacturer allows the installation of fabric ceilings in bedrooms and children's rooms.

The characteristics of the material of Clipso fabric stretch ceilings allow the fabric to be used in several planes, i.e. bend it, giving the desired relief, secure it on slopes.

When installing fabric ceilings, a special profile is used, produced using patented technology. It is almost invisible after the work is completed. Using this profile makes it possible to dismantle the ceiling and reinstall it in another room.

In the production of Clipso ceilings, much attention is paid to creating a uniform color of the canvas. The thickness of the threads is the same. During the production process, the fabric is tested for uniform tension of both longitudinal and transverse threads. Due to this, during installation, the canvas is evenly stretched onto the stretch ceiling frame.

Clipso offers soundproofing underlays for fabric stretch ceilings to create suitable room acoustics and eliminate echoes. This characteristic is in demand, for example, in cinemas and conference rooms.

German fabric ceilings Descor

Descor fabric stretch ceilings are produced in Germany. This type of finishing is characterized by increased fire resistance due to the fact that special non-flammable Trevira CS fiber is used in production. The solutions used to impregnate the base improve the characteristics of strength, elasticity, and increase the water-repellent properties of the canvas.

All Descor products are certified, which confirms their high quality. Descor stretch ceilings are anti-allergenic, do not accumulate a static charge, and therefore dust does not linger on them. The manufacturer's warranty on the product adds confidence in its high quality.

Fabric stretch ceilings are produced in rolls of various widths, which allows you to choose the maximum suitable option and save money. The maximum width of Descor ceilings is 5.1 m.

Fabric stretch ceilings Cerutti

The Alden Group company produces fabric stretch ceilings Cerutti ST. All materials and installation technologies are original, they were developed by company specialists and patented.

The production uses multi-layer fabric, which is processed in several stages by various means on both sides. The final layer is a waterproof matte varnish, which adds water resistance to all the advantages of fabric stretch ceilings. Canvases from other manufacturers do not withstand prolonged water load, which can lead to leaks, as well as discoloration of the fabric ceiling.

The cut fabric is attached to the baguette using a cord. At the end of the installation, a decorative insert is installed to hide small gaps.

Alden Group guarantees the highest possible strength of the material. If a puncture appears on the ceiling with a sharp object, the gap will not increase in the future. Special “Anti-dirt” impregnation protects against the appearance of various stains. The manufacturer's warranty reaches 10 years.

The company's specialists have developed a special detergent that is ideal for cleaning Cerutti ceilings, taking into account all the features of the branded fabric and impregnations. Included detergent Cerutti ST fabric ceilings do not contain caustic alkalis or acids. The product must be applied to the canvas for 20 seconds, then wipe it with a lint-free cloth.

The installation of fabric suspended ceilings and their operation is allowed in medical institutions due to their hypoallergenicity and non-toxicity of the materials used in production.

Types of fabric stretch ceilings and their characteristics

Fabric sheets for ceiling finishing are classified depending on the properties of the materials and the functions they perform. However, several functions can be combined in one product.

Let's look at the types of fabric stretch ceilings and their characteristics:

  • Standard fabric stretch ceilings. These are classic white ceilings that suit any interior. They have improved strength characteristics. On a standard canvas white It is convenient to apply various drawings and photo printing.
  • Colored ceilings. Have unobtrusive pastel colors. Only natural dyes are used in production.
  • Acoustic stretch ceilings. They are created using a special impregnation that has sound-absorbing and anti-noise properties. It is also possible to use special linings. An example of this type of ceiling finishing is the Cerutti Next acoustic canvas.
  • Translucent stretch ceiling. It is based on a light-scattering fiber that refracts light rays, which is impregnated with matte varnish and a finishing polymer characterized by increased light transmittance. Lighting devices are installed in internal space ceiling, light rays are refracted, resulting in the impression of weightlessness of the ceiling.
  • "Starry Sky". A special type of translucent ceilings. Technology for creating a romantic atmosphere at home or in a restaurant using fiber optics.
  • Antimicrobial ceilings. Suitable for medical institutions. The main fabric is impregnated with the antibacterial drug "TINOSAN" using ultraviolet radiation.

In addition, there are moisture-resistant and dirt-proof fabrics for fabric stretch ceilings.

Preparatory work before installing fabric stretch ceilings

Before installing fabric stretch ceilings, make preparatory activities: clean the ceiling surface from dust, remove unnecessary protruding elements of the main ceiling, lay electrical wiring and additional communications, install lighting devices provided for by the design.

The durability of the structure directly depends on the quality of the profile and its installation. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Mark the horizontal level of the future ceiling around the entire perimeter of the room; for this, use a laser or regular water level. Correct marking is the key to an ideal stretch ceiling plane. Determine the lowest corner of the room, step down from it from 2 to 10 cm (depending on the dimensional parameters of the lighting equipment provided), draw a line.
  2. Secure the baguette along the markings using self-tapping screws. If the walls are made of plasterboard sheets, then installing the baguettes will not take much time. If the walls are reinforced concrete, then the process becomes somewhat more complicated: drill holes in the right places using a hammer drill, secure the baguette using a dowel-nail fastener.
  3. Carefully adjust the joints of the baguettes in the corners.

Installation of fabric on the ceiling

To correctly install fabric stretch ceilings, use the following diagram:
  • First, pinpoint the canvas in the four corners of the room using clips. Start at the corners of the narrower wall.
  • Next, follow the order of point fastening in the middle of each wall: first on the first wall, then on the third, second and fourth wall opposite it.
  • And in the middle of each intermediate section in the same sequence. If the wall is long enough, fasten the canvas from the middle of the wall towards the corners of the room every 50 cm. At this stage, maximum tension is not required.
  • At the final stage, the canvas is stored from the center of each wall to the corners. Follow the same order of walls as with point fastening. Stretch the fabric carefully. Wrinkles formed during transportation can be easily smoothed out with a hairdryer.
  • Install decorative overlays, if they are provided.
If the room is L-shaped, then conditionally divide the room into two separate sections. Start installation work from a larger area according to the principle described above. Then trim off the excess fabric in the area of the corner that protrudes, so that the remaining fabric can be conveniently unfolded into the second part of the room, observing the rule “from the center to the corners.”

How to install a fabric stretch ceiling - watch the video:

Fabric-based stretch ceilings will last a long time if they are installed by a qualified professional. However, if you follow the principles and sequence of actions, installing a fabric stretch ceiling with your own hands will not be difficult.

Stretch ceilings have entered our lives so tightly that, perhaps, a good half modern interiors can't do without installing them. And if stretching a ceiling from PVC film requires a rather expensive heat gun, then fabric stretch ceilings can be made without such a bulky and expensive tool.

In this article I will tell you how I made a fabric stretch ceiling with my own hands in my apartment (and then at my mother-in-law’s, because she also liked it).

For this I needed:

  • Hammer
  • Level
  • Dowels
  • Self-tapping screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Special spatula
  • Cable for lighting wiring
  • Hangers for embeds
  • Mortgages
  • Terminal blocks
  • Saw and miter box (for 45 degree angles)
  • Baguette
  • Fabric for stretch ceiling

A little theory

Read in detail about the types and properties of suspended ceilings.

A stretch ceiling is a fabric stretched over the entire area of the room and attached to the walls or ceiling using a baguette - a special profile into which the edge of the fabric is inserted.

Naturally, special fabric and baguette are needed. The fabric I used was from Descor. The baguette is a wall one, that is, one that is attached to the wall, like this:

Ceiling installation

At the preparation stage, you need to determine where the lamps will be and stretch all the wires. You need to purchase these same lamps (if not already) and install mortgages for them in order to determine the required minimum height above the ceiling.

The next stage - installing the profile - is the most labor-intensive, dirty and unpleasant, but that's almost all that needs to be done). Using a level, I mark the horizontal line on the walls in the plane of the future ceiling. Then I secure the framing profile to the wall with self-tapping screws. It is necessary to fasten frequently, in increments of 7–10 cm, so that after stretching the fabric, a gap does not form between the baguette and the wall.

Well, you can move on to stretching the fabric. The fabric should be cut with a margin of 10 cm on each side. Unlike PVC ceilings, the fabric does not need any edges, edgings, O-rings, etc. And, unlike PVC, we do not heat the fabric, and we start stretching not from the corners, but from the middle of the sides. It is more convenient, of course, to do the work together.

Starting from the middle of the first side, from the center to the corners, I tuck the fabric into the baguette. This can be done conveniently (and, in fact, necessary) with a special spatula. It does not tear the fabric, and the shape is designed for the operation of stretching the fabric into a baguette. I have a clipso spatula - it’s very convenient (I paid 1350 rubles for it, but it’s worth it).

After stretching, the excess fabric hangs along the wall. I go to the opposite side and secure the middle there. Then I fill the middle part of the remaining two sides, and move on to the corners. I make sure that the fabric is stretched well, without “waves” or folds. They say that small folds can be straightened with a hair dryer, but I didn’t check, but did everything smoothly right away.

Where there are risers in the room, the fabric is cut to fit the pipes, and a plastic ring is installed to refine the edge of the hole.

When the entire ceiling is filled, I cut off the excess, leaving 1 cm for the final filling. Then, using the same spatula, I tuck the remaining 1 cm into the baguette.

This is what it looks like after refueling:

A fabric stretch ceiling adds beauty and modern aesthetics to any living space; installing it with your own hands is not at all difficult. At the same time, you will spend a minimum of time on the entire complex of work.

The species we are interested in ceiling decor became actively used relatively recently. Many people liked it immediately. Others treat it with caution, believing that the special advantages of tension structures are greatly exaggerated. Real benefits The uses of fabric ceilings are as follows:

  1. Possibility of creating seamless surfaces. Manufacturers produce canvases up to 5.1 m wide. This is more than enough to mount a ceiling without seams spoiling its appearance in any room. In cases where ceiling surface has a large width, installation of a fabric structure is impossible - its individual panels cannot be connected to each other.
  2. High resistance to temperature changes. You can mount a fabric ceiling with your own hands on a loggia, veranda, etc. unheated rooms. The canvas will feel great - without losing its performance qualities and geometry, at temperatures down to -40°.
  3. Excellent durability decorative covering. Fabric canvases are very difficult to damage or scratch with objects with sharp edges.

Also, seamless structures do not become electrified during operation, do not burn, and can be painted up to 3–4 times acrylic compounds. Installation of such canvases requires minimal skills from home handyman. You don't even need to take particularly careful measurements of the ceiling and fabric. The main thing is to buy the canvas with some reserve, and then simply cut it to the required parameters.

Seamless ceiling structure made of fabric

They make fabric tensile structures made of polyester (100% synthetic material), which is specially impregnated with polyurethane. There are several manufacturers who use to produce canvases natural fibers or fiberglass. But this base is in any case impregnated with polyurethane. This means that tensile structures made of fabric cannot be called absolutely environmentally friendly. When heated, they do not emit any toxic compounds that are potentially dangerous to humans. But this, in principle, is where all their environmental cleanliness ends.

Important nuance. Fabric ceilings are positioned as moisture-proof coatings. This is true. But it is worth understanding that fabric is characterized by a low degree of elasticity. It stretches much worse than stretch PVC ceilings. This means that the fabric structure may well break out of installed fasteners during severe flooding. Remember this.

You can install a fabric ceiling yourself without preheating the room to a certain temperature. This ensures ease of work. The canvas is fastened to a baguette - a special profile element. It is made of aluminum or plastic and attached to the wall using self-tapping screws and dowels.

The baguette can be: U-shaped (otherwise it is called wedge); clip-on. The U-shaped profile is installed really quickly. When installing it, precise measurements of the room are not required. Its installation is done using decorative insert and glazing bead. It is worth noting that a U-shaped baguette does not provide clearly defined boundaries of the canvas, which can cause deformation of the decorative ceiling covering, displacement of lighting devices on it. But the clip fastener allows you to avoid these problems. That's why self-installation Experts recommend doing fabric ceilings using it.

U-shaped profile for installing a fabric ceiling

The fastening in the form of a clip is made of high-strength plastic material. Its design is such that you do not need to worry about additional decorative elements(special insert when carrying out installation work using P-baguette). Pay attention! Clip fastening guarantees a long duration of trouble-free operation of the fabric structure. The amount of profile required to install a ceiling without seams is calculated simply. It is equal to the perimeter of the room. When determining the amount of fabric needed, be sure to leave a small piece of material on each side.

Installation of fabric ceiling structure

Marking is done using a level (water, laser). Place level marks on each wall - use a simple pencil. Then pull the upholstery dyeing thread along the marked points, pull it back a little and release it. A clearly visible mark will remain on the wall. You will be guided by it when carrying out installation activities.

Along the line you have made, you need to drill holes with a cross-section of 6 mm (the distance between them is taken to be about 12–15 cm). Plastic dowels are installed in them, into which a baguette is then attached using self-tapping screws. It is necessary to fix the profile as efficiently as possible. The durability of the ceiling structure depends on this.

Now start stretching the fabric according to the following diagram:

  • tuck (sequentially) the corners of the canvas in the baguette;
  • fix the fabric structure in the center of the wall;
  • strengthen the canvas in the center of the intermediate sections;
  • install a decorative trim.

It is convenient to thread the canvas using a spatula with a rounded end. You will not have any difficulties in carrying out such work. Provided that you perform them with a careful and understanding partner. The final stage of work is the installation of lighting fixtures. Don't forget that they are installed using thermal rings. Important nuance! It is advisable to attach massive chandeliers to a mounting element (it is made from a piece of thick plywood or wooden block, which are fixed with dowels to the existing ceiling).
