Tools and accessories for covering the roof with corrugated sheeting. How to properly cover the roof of a house with corrugated sheeting

Today, most craftsmen are in demand for roofs made of metal profiles, despite the fact that the market is full of a variety of roofing materials. This popularity of the coating is due to its technical characteristics and favorable price. However, not everyone knows how to cover a roof with corrugated sheeting without making major mistakes. Therefore, in the article below we will consider all the possible nuances of the work, how exactly to lay corrugated sheeting on the roof, in order to avoid further unpleasant incidents with the finished roof.

Important: those who want to lay a metal profile on the roof should know that one of the qualities of the material is a low level of noise absorption. Therefore, you will have to take care of high-quality roofing cake (hydro-, steam- and thermal insulation). This layer will significantly reduce the noise level of the “rain symphony” in thunderstorms.

Otherwise, the material, made of steel sheet with a thickness of 0.5 to 3.5 mm and coated with a galvanized and polymer protective layer, is, in principle, beneficial from all sides. In particular, covering the roof with corrugated sheeting gives the home owner the following advantages:

  • High speed of work completion. This nuance is due to the light weight of the material and its dimensions. Often the length of one profile sheet is 12 m. And if the lengths of the slope and the roofing sheet are the same, then this makes it possible to avoid unnecessary work when finishing the roof of a house (lack of cutting and adjusting the material). In addition, lifting the corrugated sheet to the top is not difficult.
  • Low load on rafter system. This means additional savings on the construction of its skeleton.
  • Significant savings in the construction budget. This is ensured by the favorable cost of the material. The price for corrugated sheets is significantly lower than even for metal tiles.
  • Attractive home design. A roof made of corrugated sheets looks quite decent and neat, while the corrugated sheet on the roof is in no way inferior to the popular metal tiles.
  • High repairability of the coating and its resistance to water, cold, and sun. But only if you follow the rules required for laying corrugated sheets on the roof.

Choosing roofing material

If you decide to attach corrugated sheets as roofing material, then it’s worth knowing what you can use on the roof. in principle, any of its types (load-bearing, wall or universal). But at the same time, you need to remember that a thin wall corrugated sheet requires the installation of a continuous sheathing under it. Otherwise, over time, due to snow and wind loads, the roof will sag in the gaps of the sheathing.

Important: most often, in order to cover a roof with a metal profile, a sheet of grades NS or N (universal/load-bearing) is chosen with a thickness of 0.5-0.7 mm. It is desirable that the height of the corrugation ridge varies within the range of 20-75 mm. This will serve as additional rigidity for the roof covering. In this case, the profile must have a drainage capillary groove.

We calculate the amount of material

If we decide that we will cover the roof with corrugated sheeting, then we need to purchase the required amount of material. This is important because a single volume of roofing is purchased from one batch. In the future, if one or two profile sheets are missing, it may be sold from another batch. And this threatens a discrepancy in color shade. And the work will be interrupted, which is not very good, especially if the uncovered house is hit by bad weather.

So, in order to correctly calculate the amount of coating and understand how to attach it, you need to calculate the parameters of the slopes. If it is single-pitch or gable roof, then there will be no problems at all. You need to determine the width of the slopes and divide it by the width of one sheet of covering. We multiply the resulting value by 15% (margin for overlaps). Such calculations are convenient for slopes whose length does not exceed 12 m. If the length (height) of the slope is greater, then you need to take 40% more corrugated sheets.

Rules for transportation, storage and use of coating

Those who do not yet know how to cover a roof with corrugated sheeting should understand that this roofing covering does not like strong mechanical influences and wind loads. They can lead to deformation of the material. This means that when working with it you should adhere to several important rules:

  • When transporting a purchased profile, it must be transported exclusively in a horizontal position, stacked on wooden pallet. In this case, it is better to secure the stack of coating with belts so that when the car moves, the sheets do not move or become deformed.
  • When moving the profile or storing it, it is important to ensure that the sheets do not rub against each other or against other surfaces. Otherwise, the protective polymer coating may be damaged, which will subsequently lead to corrosion of the steel underneath.
  • Lifting the metal profile to the roof must be carried out in batches, arranging a kind of lifting path of two beams arranged like rails from the roof to the ground. The profile pack is lifted on ropes and fixed on the roof, supporting it with a padded fixing bar from the eaves side. This will make it easier to lay corrugated sheeting on the roof.
  • It is not recommended to work with the profile in windy weather. In this case, it will be difficult to attach the corrugated sheeting, since it has a large windage. Therefore, working in the wind both threatens the safety of the craftsman himself and can lead to deformation of the sheet.
  • Roofing work should be performed in soft shoes. A hard sole may bend the coating.
  • In addition, laying corrugated sheets should only be carried out using protective gloves. Because cut edges of the material can cause injury to the craftsman.

Important: when cutting profile sheets, it is not advisable to use a grinder. It greatly heats up the polymer coating when cutting, which leads to its deterioration and further corrosion of the coating sheet. The material must be cut with special scissors, and the cut edges must be painted with special paint.

Tools for getting the job done

If you don’t yet know how to lay corrugated sheeting or how to cover a roof with corrugated sheeting with your own hands, then we provide a list of the tools needed to complete the work. So, we will fasten the corrugated sheets using the following tools:

  • Tape measure and construction pencil (marker);
  • Jigsaw or special scissors for cutting profiles;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Sealing tape for sealing joints of the coating;
  • Special self-tapping screws with sealing washers at the rate of 7-10 pcs/m2 of coating;
  • Component elements (ridge, valleys, cornices, etc.). They are put in last.

Sheathing device

When trying to learn how to properly cover a roof with corrugated sheets with your own hands, you should understand that the device roofing pie is of no small importance when working with profiled sheets. Therefore, we will devote no less attention to the installation of the sheathing and fastening of the insulating layer:

  • So, boards are placed on the rafter legs in increments of 50-70 cm.
  • Now they are covered with vapor barrier material.
  • Thermal insulation is laid on top.
  • Everything is covered with waterproofing canvas and only after that they begin the installation of sheathing for installation of the metal profile.

Important: the joints of all layers of membranes are taped with special tape.

  • Now it is important to arrange the sheathing for laying the metal profile. Here, the technology of laying corrugated sheeting on the roof implies that the thinner the corrugated sheet, the smaller the pitch of the sheathing should be. A continuous sheathing is made under a very thin roofing material. As for the rest, for the CH35 profile, the lathing step is 50-60 cm. For the CH44 metal profile, this step can already be 65-75 cm.

Important: all wooden elements of the roof must be treated with fire retardants and antiseptics for greater resistance to possible moisture.

Metal profile overlap level

Continuing to master the material on the topic of how to cover a roof with corrugated sheets with your own hands and how to lay the covering correctly, we will learn what the overlap of sheets should be horizontally and vertically. In principle, if the height (length) of the slope allows, then the metal profile sheets are laid from left to right or vice versa, depending on the predominant wind direction in the region. In this case, you need to cover the roof with corrugated sheeting with your own hands on the side of the roof opposite to the predominant wind direction. In this case, the vertical overlap may vary depending on the pitch of the roof. The larger the angle, the smaller the overlap can be. That is, with a large slope of the slope, it is allowed to overlap half the ridge, and with a slight slope of the roof, you need to lay the next sheet of covering on two ridges. This adherence to the principles will allow you to properly cover the roof.

As for the horizontal overlap, the fastening of the profiled sheet requires an overlap of 10 cm. In this case, the lower (first) row of material is laid with a protrusion above the cornice of 30-50 cm. That is, it covers the drain by a third of its width. Such overhangs allow high-quality drainage of water from the roof to drainage system. The sheets of the second row need to be installed with the seams offset relative to the first row. These installation instructions will allow you to make a high-quality metal profile roof. The roof is covered in this way correctly.

Important: all joints between metal profile roofing sheets are covered with a special sealing tape.

The principle of fastening a metal profile

Continuing the instructions on the topic “how to properly cover a roof with corrugated sheeting” and how to cover a roof quickly, we will introduce the reader to the principles of fastening roofing sheets.

So, thin sheets of metal profiles are placed on the roof of the house on specially prepared self-tapping screws with rubber seals. In this case, the fasteners must be carefully screwed in with a screwdriver. You should not clamp the screws on the laid layers of the coating too much, as this will create additional stress on the coating sheet. If you fasten the corrugated sheet tightly, this will lead to its deformation over time and water leakage under the washer.

Lay the first sheet of roofing and secure it at the top with one self-tapping screw. Now you should level the sheet using a level and additionally tighten it with the remaining fasteners. Then we cover the entire roof using this sheet. This information on how to cover a roof with metal sheets will help even a novice craftsman.

At the very top of the sheathing and in bottom sheet the profile is fixed with self-tapping screws into each ridge. You can screw corrugated sheeting into the middle boards of the sheathing using fasteners through the ridge.

Important: very thin material Can screw manually, without a screwdriver.

Installation of a roof ridge made of corrugated sheets

The installed roof must be completed by installing the ridge and side caps on it. How to secure this element is discussed below. It is worth knowing that profile skates are produced in three versions:

  • Profile sheet bent at an angle;
  • Semicircular ridge;
  • U-shaped skate.

You can cover the roof with corrugated sheeting using any of them to your taste.

The principle of constructing a ridge (how to place it correctly) and fastening a roof made of corrugated sheets looks like this:

  • In the upper, not yet installed ridge part of the roof, all laid profile sheets are mounted perfectly even along the edge. That is, they are leveled at the top.
  • The gap between them is closed with a special sealing tape.
  • Now you need to fix the wooden blocks parallel to the existing axis of the ridge.
  • The ridge is screwed to them, overlapping the elements in such a way that the prevailing direction of the wind seems to smooth them. If the ridge parts are fastened this way, then the wind will not be able to damage the roof.
  • The ends of the ridge are covered with plugs on both sides. Thus, you can completely cover the roof with a metal profile with your own hands.

Important: if you do not know how to properly install corrugated sheeting on a roof of complex configuration, then it is better to use the services of professionals. Although in this case, all the work on installing the corrugated roof with your own hands performed according to the above principle. You just need to cut it carefullycovering the roofing material on the required elements and placing the valleys correctly. Remember rightfixed material, lasts more than 30 years.

On modern market presented huge assortment construction and finishing materials, including for roofing. Primitive finishing such as slate and bitumen is gradually becoming a thing of history, being replaced by more presentable and quality materials, fully meeting the requirements of modern housing construction.

Corrugated sheeting is one of these high-quality and aesthetic materials. You can cover the roof with corrugated sheets yourself. Here is a guide to arrangement of flat roofs. Such roofing structures are very often erected on various outbuildings such as sheds and gazebos, and sometimes above residential buildings.

An inexperienced person may decide that the corrugated sheet is not in the best possible way suitable for roofing and can only be used for cladding gates and fences. However, this opinion is absolutely wrong. Modern profiled sheets have excellent protective properties, excellent appearance and are available in a wide range of colors.

Add to all the advantages the ease of installation and fastening of sheets, as well as an affordable cost, and you get an almost ideal material for roofing.

It is precisely for the ease of installation that private and thrifty developers are so fond of profiled metal sheets. However, you should not think that covering the roof with the material in question with your own hands is very easy. Here, as in any other work, there are a number of important nuances, which must be taken into account, especially when working with flat roof structures.

The nuances of using corrugated sheets when working with a flat roof

Flat roofing is mainly used to cover various kinds outbuildings. When installing corrugated sheets on such a roof, a number of features must be taken into account, first of all, the low slope of the roof slope.

To cover a flat roof, use a single sheet, without joints. Any joints increase the risk of moisture penetration into the space under the roof. If it is not possible to equip the roof with one sheet, the joints must be sealed with special silicone agents.

It is precisely because of the features mentioned above that corrugated sheeting is very rarely used for roofing flat roofs. For such structures, rolled materials are better suited, but if you really want to, you can also successfully lay corrugated sheets.

Features of the technology

In accordance with the technology, profiled sheets must be laid at a certain angle necessary to obtain the highest quality and reliable coating. If you have at least once had to install a roofing covering with your own hands, you already know that the angle of attachment of the finishing material is determined by the angle of inclination of the roof slope.

In the case of a flat roof, certain difficulties may arise at this point. Profiled sheets are laid at a ten-degree angle. With a lower slope, atmospheric moisture will not be able to drain normally from the roof and will penetrate under the roofing material, especially if the sheets are laid overlapping. Solve the problem of creating the required slope in the case of flat roof in most cases, lathing helps.

In addition to the slope of the slope, it is necessary to take into account its length. As a rule, profiled sheets have a standard length of 12 m. This sheet size is very convenient - in most cases, the entire roof slope can be covered with one sheet, avoiding seams and any kind of joints.

If necessary, the corrugated sheet can be easily cut using ordinary metal scissors. It is strongly not recommended to use a grinder for cutting roofing sheets. During the operation of this tool, a large amount of heat is generated, under the influence of which protective coating the corrugated sheet is destroyed, which is why operational properties materials deteriorate noticeably.

Roofing Guide

With a profiled sheet device on flat roof you can handle a barn, gazebo and any other building with your own hands. The technology for doing the work remains almost the same for most cases.

First stage - tools

Prepare the following equipment for work:

  • electric drill. If possible, use a drill with a low chuck speed. This will allow you to set the angle of entry of each fastener into the roofing surface as accurately as possible;
  • jigsaw Instead, you can use scissors for working with metal or a hacksaw. Cut sheets roofing grinder is categorically not recommended. As a last resort, when no other tools are available, cut with a grinder using a special attachment for processing corrugated sheets;
  • brushes;
  • lathing boards;
  • hammer.

Second stage - lathing

Start assembling the sheathing. To arrange this element, it is most convenient to use boards. Lay the boards on the rafters and secure them with galvanized screws or nails every 50-100 cm.

Select the specific pitch of the sheathing in accordance with the characteristics of the profiled sheet used. For example, for installation of C35 profiled sheets, the optimal lathing pitch will be 0.5 m, and for C44 grade sheets, the board fastening pitch should be increased to 70-75 cm.

If the length of the roof slope exceeds the length of the profiled sheet, lay additional boards at the future joints of the sheets.

Treat the finished sheathing with an antiseptic. You can perform this processing before you start attaching the boards - as is more convenient for you.

The third stage - moisture insulation

The basis of profiled sheets is metal. On metal surfaces Condensation inevitably settles. Moisture sooner or later leads to irreversible damage to any building materials, so it must be neutralized. There are 2 main options for neutralizing the harmful effects of moisture, namely:

After completing the moisture-proofing work, you can begin to prepare directly for the installation of the roof. To make it more convenient to lift sheets onto the roof, you can make a simple device in the form of two long slats laid from the ground to the roof at a slight angle.

It is more convenient if you have three assistants, so that two feed the sheets from below, and two receive the material from above and carry out its installation.

The fourth stage - laying sheets

First of all, select suitable option installation of profiled sheets. There are two main mounting options, namely:

Corrugated sheeting can only be fixed using special galvanized self-tapping screws with seals. The seal must be made of neoprene rubber. This material tolerates contact with moisture and temperature changes well. The optimal diameter of the self-tapping screw for attaching corrugated sheets is 4.8 mm.

Nails cannot be used to fix corrugated sheeting. With constant gusts of wind, the nails simply will not be able to hold the sheets properly, as a result of which they will be torn off from the sheathing.

Self-tapping screws are screwed into the depressions of the sheets, where the material is adjacent to the sheathing. On square meter coating, about 6-8 self-tapping screws are consumed. Try to place fasteners at the same distance. The sheets must be attached to the outer battens in all waves, because these places will be subject to the strongest wind loads. The sheets can be fixed to the remaining elements of the sheathing through one wave.

It is better to prepare mounting holes in sheets in advance. When working with thin profiled sheets, holes can be made using a self-tapping screw, but if the sheets are quite thick, make holes with a drill.

Self-tapping screws with multi-colored caps are currently available for sale. Without any problems, you can choose fasteners that exactly match the color of your profiled roofing sheets.

Lay adjacent sheets of covering with an overlap in 1 wave.

Cover the entire main surface with corrugated sheets, and then install additional accessories if necessary.

Thus, there is nothing complicated about covering the roof with corrugated sheets yourself. You just need to follow the instructions and take precautions that are relevant for any roofing work.

Good luck!

Video - Cover the roof with corrugated sheets with your own hands

Today, most urban residents strive to have country house, where you can relax from the noise and breathe fresh air. But the prices for cottages are so high that a person with an average income cannot afford them.

What to do in this case? Either give up the idea of having your own cozy nest in the lap of nature, far from the noise and dirt of the metropolis, or build a house with your own hands.

The second option is, of course, preferable. Besides self-construction at home - the task is quite doable. Particular responsibility should be taken when choosing building materials, especially when it comes to constructing a roof.

IN modern construction When constructing this part of the house, corrugated sheeting is increasingly used.

What is corrugated sheeting?

Corrugated sheets or profiled sheets are an excellent choice as a roofing material. It has high functionality, durability, resistance to mechanical impact and adverse environmental influences.

The corrugated sheet is very practical, gives the building an aesthetically attractive appearance, and is also completely inexpensive.

Even beginners can easily install a corrugated roof. Before starting work, it is necessary to familiarize yourself in detail with the technology of working with profiled sheets, take into account the SNIP of roofs made of this material, the main principles of installation and the specifics of the material.

Features and main types of roofing sheeting

The obvious advantages of corrugated sheets include such qualities as:

  • relative lightness of sheets;
  • high load-bearing capacity;
  • resistance to corrosion;
  • comparative ease of installation;
  • long service life.

Today, the construction market offers several types of profiled sheets.

  1. Corrugated sheeting grade “C” with a trapezoidal or sinusoidal profile shape. Its wave height is 8, 10, 13, 20, 21, 35, 44 mm. Applicable for light construction roofs and creation of protective structures.
  2. “NS” grade corrugated sheeting: wave height – 35, 44 mm. This type is used as a material for roofing, as well as for arranging walls.
  3. Profiled sheet of grade “N” with additional stiffening ribs. The height of its wave is 57, 60, 75, 114 mm. It is used for the construction of permanent roofs and floors between floors.

Preparatory work

Before starting work, you should prepare necessary tools and materials:

  • a hacksaw designed for electric scissors;
  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver or hex drill with hex bit;
  • profiled sheets;
  • screws (self-tapping screws).

It is necessary to think in advance about the supply of sheets to the roof. Qualified builders advise using logs, but you can use devices such as blocks, winches, etc.

First you need to start installing the rafter system, taking into account the fact that the roofing material will be corrugated sheeting.

This is very important point, since each brand of profile sheet requires a specific type of sheathing and a space of a certain size between the rafters.

In order for the roof to be strong, durable and not very expensive, when choosing corrugated sheeting it is necessary to take into account the features climatic conditions specific region.

In areas where large amounts of snow fall, the wave height of the supporting profile should be at least 20 mm. The ideal option for arranging the roof of a private house is corrugated sheets of the NS35 and NS44 brands.

The angle of the roof slope also depends on the climatic region. So, if there is a large snow cover, the minimum angle should be 15 degrees. The amount of required profiled sheet is calculated depending on the size of the slope angle.

Calculation of the required material

Professional builders use special computer programs. However, this can be done without them.

First of all, you need to know what specific roof elements will be present.

When making calculations, you must take into account:

  • roof inclination angle, overhang relative to the horizon line;
  • roof slope – inclined surface for drainage of water;
  • ridge – horizontal external corner in the form of an edge, which is formed at the line of intersection of the slopes;
  • a ridge strip designed to cover external fractures, providing protection against moisture penetration;
  • ridge cap, the purpose of which is to protect the space under the roof from moisture entering it;
  • roof ridge - an external inclined angle located between the slopes;
  • valley, or groove - an internal angle formed at the intersection of slopes;
  • tong – the angle of inclination between the front and the slope (external);
  • valley strip for water drainage;
  • ribs formed at the intersection of slopes;
  • cornices and overhangs - the edges of the roof that extend beyond the line of the walls;
  • eaves strip, necessary to protect the sheathing and front board from any precipitation (also redirects the flow of water to the drain, to the gutter);
  • ends or sides roof slopes. Their strips are used to protect the roof from the destructive influence strong wind;
  • abutment – the junction between the wall and the roofing material. Its strips are needed in order to protect structural elements from precipitation (at the junction points of the pipes);
  • snow holders necessary to protect the house and the safety of its inhabitants when snow masses fall from the roof.

To calculate the total area, you need to divide it into separate geometric shapes depending on the shape of the roof. Then you need to separately calculate the area of each surface and add up all the results.

In the same way, the length of various bends, end and eaves overhangs is determined. The inflection lines are ridges, valleys, ridges and junctions.

It must be taken into account that the profiled sheet has two values: a useful (or working) width, which is 1100 mm, and a total (full) sheet width of 1180 mm.

The next stage of calculations– determination of the number of required sheets of material. It is produced in this way: the entire length of the slope is divided by the working width. The resulting figure is rounded (up).

At the same time as this calculation, the overlap of the material is also taken into account. This is done by subtracting from the total working length: 1180 -1100, i.e. 80 mm.

With a vertical overlap of 150 mm, the eaves overhang is at least 50 mm. The shortest length is 500 mm, the largest is 6500 mm. Best option– 4000–4500 mm. The effective length is calculated taking into account overlaps and waves.

Profiled sheets are arranged horizontally. If this fact is ignored, the calculations will be incorrect.

Then the result obtained is divided by 1.9 (taking into account an overlap of 10 cm).

When calculating for the valley, the result must be divided by 1.7. The overlap must be at least 30 cm.

When carrying out calculations, it must be remembered that both vertically and horizontally the profiled sheets must be joined to one another with an overlap. In addition to this, it is also necessary to take into account the dimensions of the roof overhang.

In the case of vertical overlaps, they are calculated taking into account the type of profile, since the overlap will be made with the overlap of the wave. As already mentioned, the wave pitch varies depending on the specific brand of profiled sheet.

As for the size of the horizontal overlap, it depends on the angle of the roof slope.

So, if the angle is 15 degrees, the overlap should be more than 20 cm.

With a roof slope angle of 15 to 30 degrees, the overlap size ranges from 15 to 20 cm.

If the slope angle is more than 30 degrees, the overlap should be 10–15 cm.

The size of the overhangs depends on the brand of the profiled sheet - more precisely, on the height of the profile of the metal sheet.

So, if there is a high profile, there is a certain risk of moisture getting under the eaves and subsequent rotting of the wood of the rafter system. Therefore, the overhang must be made large.

If profiled sheets NS8, NS20, NS10, C21 are used, then the eaves overhang should be arranged in the range from 50 to 100 mm.

As for brands NS35, N60, N75, C44, when using them, the overhang size will be 200–300 mm.

You also need to know the number of screws. It should be noted that when fastening steel, self-tapping screws equipped with rubber attachments are used.

The calculation is very simple: per square meter of corrugated sheet you will need 7-8 pieces.

The number 8 is multiplied by the resulting total area and the required number of screws is obtained.

Having calculated the roof area, they also calculate the amount required waterproofing film and insulation.

We cover the roof with corrugated sheets with our own hands

Main components, hydro- and vapor barrier

The photo shows a diagram of a corrugated roof: 1 – corrugated sheet; 2 – sheathing; 3 – ridge seal; 4 – ridge; 5 – waterproofing vapor-permeable film; 6 – rafter strip; 7 – rafter leg; 8 – insulation; 9 – vapor-proof film; 10 – ceiling rail; 11 – drywall, lining; a – under-roof ventilation; b – ventilation between the insulation and the waterproofing film.

The installation of the sheathing is carried out taking into account the grade of the profiled sheet. If the metal thickness is no more than 0.5 mm, and the material grade is C-8, C-10 or C-20, the sheathing is made solid.

In other cases, the pitch of the sheathing is selected depending on the angle of the roof slope and the size of the profile. The pitch is usually from 50 to 100 cm.

Rafters must be treated with an antiseptic to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms and fungi.

The lathing is attached to the rafter system; beams measuring 50x50 mm are used with a specific pitch or a continuous carpet.

To insulate the roof, thermal profiles and gaskets made of special heat-insulating material are used.

Before installing the corrugated sheeting, you should also take care of laying hydro- and vapor barriers to prevent moisture in the layer of heat-insulating material.

How is a vapor barrier done on a roofing pie?

A special film or roofing felt is attached to the rafters using a stapler. Then the sheathing is done. Styling vapor barrier material start from the bottom edge of the roof.

Click on the picture to enlarge

With this approach, the bottom edge of the top row overlaps the top edge of the bottom row, and this protects the wood from moisture penetration.

Then you need to move on to the installation of corrugated roofing sheets. They are laid overlapping and attached using self-tapping screws with rubber seals, which are screwed into the bends of the sheet waves.

All sections of profiled sheets and places where screws are screwed in are treated with a special anti-corrosion compound.

For correct installation sheets, it is necessary to take into account the angle of inclination of the roof. Calculation methods are described in the section “Calculation of the required material”.

Features of laying sheets

Laying corrugated sheets begins from the right end. If a hip roof is being installed, then the sheets should be laid on both sides, starting from the highest point of the slope.

First, you should install the eaves strip (the protrusion from the edge of the overhang is 3.5-4 cm), which is secured with self-tapping screws. An additional sealant must be placed between the cornice strip and the sheet.

If the slope is less than 12 degrees, the sealant is also used on the longitudinal seams, and an overlap of 2 waves is made.

The drainage groove gives the entire structure additional reliability. It should be remembered that the profile groove during installation should be located at the bottom of the sheet.

  1. Already set sheet fixed at the ridge of the roof and the edge of the overhang.
  2. The next sheet is laid, then the sheets are aligned along the edges and fixed as indicated in point 1.
  3. At the crest of the wave, the sheets are fastened in 50-centimeter increments (direction - from the overhang to the ridge).

In what order should decking sheets be laid?

For reliable and long-term operation of the roof, you must follow some rules for fastening sheets. Some points to consider:

  • the possibility of expansion of sheets in the center under the influence of high temperature conditions;
  • exposure to wind;
  • high density of sheet connection points.

To ensure that the fastenings comply with all required standards, their connection to the sheathing is made using 4.8x35 mm self-tapping screws, and the ridge is fastened using self-tapping screws, the length of which is at least 80 mm.

Security measures

The first step is to take care of the safety of transporting material from the store to a certain area. Sharp edges of corrugated sheets can injure your hands or damage the polymer protective coating.

All work is done wearing special gloves.

Three people are required to lift the sheets onto the roof. The profiled sheet is fed by two assistants to the third, who is on the roof, using two wooden guides: they should be placed at a certain “ground-roof” slope.

The builder on the roof must wear soft shoes so as not to damage the protective coating of the corrugated sheeting. Accidentally formed metal chips and scratches are treated with special paint for polymer coatings.

You can walk on the flooring only in those places where the sheathing is located under the metal.

Video instructions on how to cover a roof with corrugated sheeting:

Corrugated sheet is an excellent roofing covering that can be used to finish the roofs of almost any residential or commercial building. For each individual case, the use of a corrugated sheet of the appropriate type is provided, but the procedure for its installation in most cases remains unchanged.

The corrugated sheet consists of a sheet of steel and a special zinc coating, which protects the material from corrosion. It is best to cover the roof expensive material With polymer coating. IN quality sheets zinc is additionally coated with chromium, after which it is primed and exposed additional processing polymer paint and varnish material.

For finishing roofs, a universal sheet and a wall variety of material are most often used. When choosing a material, be sure to pay attention to the type and height of the corrugation. In the case of roofs, it is best to use a “wave” with a height of 21-35 cm. A “trapezoidal” corrugation of the same height is also perfect. The optimal sheet thickness is 0.8-1 mm. Additionally, you need to take into account the slope of the slope and the features of the sheathing.

To ensure that the work of constructing a roof from corrugated sheets with your own hands is completed as quickly as possible and with the least amount of labor, it is recommended to prepare in advance everything necessary for the work.

  1. Screwdriver.
  2. Special riveting machine. With its help you will process the joints of sheets of material.
  3. Tool for manual cutting of sheets. It will be discussed in detail below.
  4. Construction level.
  5. Measuring tape.
  6. Hammer, pencil, nails and other small things used to perform any construction tasks.

It is important to prepare thoroughly for installation work so that everything goes smoothly top level and with minimal costs. To begin with, you should properly organize the transportation of roofing material to the workplace. Lift each sheet onto the roof individually.

It is important that there is no gusty or strong wind outside, because... it may cause damage to the material.

The main stage of preparation begins with the organization of insulation, laying moisture and vapor barriers. The latter is attached to the inside of the rafters with an overlap of about 10 cm. The joints are glued with metallized tape.

Check the film before use. Any defects, cracks or other damage are unacceptable. They must be sealed. Remember that properly installed vapor barrier, insulation and moisture protection can save up to 20% of heat and even more.

When using corrugated sheets, it is best to insulate the roof using matte materials. No special recommendations for thermal insulation are given: the slabs are laid in a sheathing, previously covered with a vapor barrier film, and covered with a layer of waterproofing.

Pay special attention to waterproofing. This material will protect the insulation from the harmful effects of moisture, upon contact with which the thermal insulation properties are noticeably reduced. As a result, this leads to the roof becoming covered with ice, the rooms becoming damp, wooden structures quickly rot, etc. Does a great job of protecting against moisture polyethylene film. Lay it with an overlap of about 15 cm and secure the joints with adhesive tape.

The corrugated sheet is laid starting from the lower edge of the roof. The material is installed with an overlap. The sheets are fastened using self-tapping screws with rubber seals. They must be fixed in the bends of the corrugated sheet waves.

First of all, it is necessary to make a dense plank flooring under the valley plank. Lay it approximately at the level of the roof sheathing, retreating about 60 cm from the gutter on both sides. Laying the bottom valley boards should be done with an overlap of at least 20 cm. Use nails to secure the bottom strip. Finally, it is fixed together with the roof. If the roof has a gentle slope, experts advise additionally using mastics for compaction.

Place the bottom strip under the roof ridge approximately 25 cm. Place a sealant between the strip and the profiled sheet. It is recommended to fasten the end boards above the sheathing. In the future, this will make it possible to secure the end strips. It is in this order that the wind corner is created.

At the next stage, the cornice strip is mounted and hemmed with a profiled sheet. This bar must be set lower in relation to the profiled sheet. Be sure to take care to create proper ventilation of the space under the roof.

The procedure for laying corrugated sheets is largely determined by the characteristics of a particular type of roof. For example, if we are talking about flat structures, then the sheets are stacked with overlap in 1 wave and the mandatory use of longitudinal sealing gasket. In the case of steep slopes There is no need to install sealant. When finishing hip roofs laying of the corrugated sheet begins directly with hip center. The sheets of roofing material are directly aligned with a rope pre-stretched along the eaves.

There are several technologies for laying modern profiled sheets on the roof. For example, in accordance with the vertical installation method, the first sheet is laid at the bottom to create a temporary fastening. The 1st sheet of the 2nd row is mounted using a similar principle. Next, the 2nd sheet of both rows of masonry is fixed so that the result is a block of 3 profiled sheets. Then you need to dock the next one to the laid block and continue to do so until all the allocated space is filled.

Laying can also be done by creating blocks of 3 profiled sheets. To implement this task, you first need to lay 2 sheets of the 1st row, fastening them to each other as securely as possible, and then dock the 3rd profiled sheet of the 2nd row. The laid block is secured after precise alignment in accordance with the cornice. Afterwards, the next block of the same type is created, and the laying continues according to this pattern until the end.

Regardless of the chosen method of installing the corrugated sheet, be sure to check each fixation unit. The reliability, service life and quality of the future roofing covering as a whole largely depend on the connection points.

Rules for installing planks

Making a roof from the material in question with your own hands requires the mandatory use of different slats. The first of them is the end one. As a rule, it has a length of two meters. If it is necessary to increase the length of the planks, they are overlapped. Mounted along the roof overhang in the direction of the ridge. The fastening is carried out in such a way that at least one wave of the profiled sheet overlaps the end strip. Use self-tapping screws for fixation. They must be fastened in increments of no more than 100 cm.

The next step is arranging the ridge. When performing this stage of work, you need to be as careful as possible, because... the ridge is one of the most important nodes roofing system. Installation is carried out using smooth ridge components, between which professional builders advise laying a layer of additional thermal insulation. In the case of using corrugated profiled sheets, installation of a special ridge seal is allowed.

Work on installing a roof made of corrugated sheets is completed with the installation of abutment strips. These products are two meters long and are laid with an overlap of up to 20 cm. They are fastened with self-tapping screws on the side of the profiled sheets. Self-tapping screws must be installed every 40 cm.

It is important to follow the rules for connecting the roof structure to the wall of the house. Thus, the end of the roof and the walls are connected using a special ridge seal. It is placed between the joint strip and the upper edge of the profiled sheet.

It is important to lay a longitudinal seal at the lateral junctions of the roof. Such an event will help protect the structure from snow and other undesirable elements getting into it. If the roof slope has a steep slope, there is no need to use a sealant.

In the process of constructing a roof from a corrugated sheet with your own hands, there is almost always a need to cut the sheets. This can be done using a variety of tools. The most important thing is that during such processing the protective layer of the sheet is not damaged.

For cutting, a hacksaw for metal, ordinary scissors for cutting tin, circular saw, professional electric cutter. You should avoid using grinders and other abrasive tools. After cutting with a grinder, the corrugated sheet material will become very fragile and unstable to corrosion, which as a result will not have the best effect on the main characteristics and service life of the roofing system.

After cutting with any suitable tool, the edges of the corrugated sheet must be coated with enamel designed specifically for processing polymer surfaces. Thanks to this, the protection of the corrugated sheet from corrosion will be restored.

You are already familiar with the main aspects of constructing a roof made of corrugated sheets with your own hands. Now you need to understand and learn a number of nuances that will allow you to complete the work at the highest level.

First of all, remember that the corrugated sheet is laid starting from the end of any bottom corner. In some situations, you can fasten several sheets at once at the bottom, stepping back from the cornice strip about 40 cm. Fastenings must be made on every 2nd wave.

Special wind corners are designed to protect the end boards. They need to be installed after all the sheets have been laid. Profiled sheets are laid transversely and longitudinally.

In case horizontal mounting the overlap is made such that top sheet found the bottom exactly 1 wave. This is relevant for situations where installation is carried out using a special rubber gasket. In the absence of such a gasket, the overlap should be 2 waves. If the profiled sheet is laid vertically, the upper element must overlap the underlying one by at least 20 cm.

The use of the repeatedly mentioned seal can be abandoned only if the roof slope has a slope exceeding 60 degrees. After laying all the corrugated sheets, proceed to forming connections. Longitudinal joints are made along the ridge every 50 cm, vertical connections– along the bottom of each existing wave.

To install the roofing material in question, you can use only self-tapping screws specially designed for this purpose. They are also known as hardware. Approximately 5-8 such fasteners should be used per 1 m2 of roof space. It is recommended to match the hardware to the color of the roofing. On the ridge, fastening is carried out with the obligatory use of a tin gasket. On the main field, you need to use a rubber pad.

Thus, independent device Roofs made of corrugated sheets are quite possible. You just need to follow all the rules and adhere to the basic recommendations, thanks to which even an inexperienced home handyman can understand the procedure for attaching profiled sheets and performing all related operations. Follow the instructions received and you will succeed.

Happy work!

Video - Do-it-yourself roof made of corrugated sheets

Each roofing process has its own characteristics. The roof that needs to be covered can have a different number of slopes and be of any slope. First you need to make a roof sheathing; it can be constructed from either boards or steel. When designing, it is necessary to take into account the presence additional elements, such as: gutters, snow catchers.

For error-free roof installation with corrugated sheeting, you need to take into account some principles, including:

  • Having a roof slope angle of no more than 12 degrees, the installation of profiled plates should be about 20 centimeters. In this case, the use of sealants is recommended.
  • Having a roof slope of no more than 15 degrees, the optimal spread of sheets is about 20 centimeters.
  • Having a roof slope of 15–20 degrees, an overlap of sheets of 15 to 20 centimeters is recommended.
  • Having a roof inclination angle of more than 30 degrees, the approximate overlap of the corrugated sheet is about 15 centimeters.

The smaller the slope angle, the greater the load from precipitation, which subsequently leads to roof leakage. In this case, it is more advisable to increase the overlap.

The fastening of the sheets must be strong and reliable; if they are self-tapping screws, then when using them, rubber washers must be present.

Installation stages

One of the many advantages of using corrugated sheeting in the roof is the ability to choose the material by type and size, as well as color and wave level based on your own preferences. Once the choice has been made, you can begin a number of stages in the process of laying corrugated sheets.

Preparatory work

In order not to make a mistake with the dimensions and the required number of profiled plates, before purchasing you need to calculate required quantity, dividing the total width of the slope by the width of one sheet.

Before starting the main work, you will need to carefully consider the transportation of the purchased plates, as well as their subsequent lifting to the roof. To ensure complete safety of the surface of the profiled sheet, carefully consider methods of safe movement.

To lift the corrugated sheeting onto the roof, it is advisable to involve several working hands. You need to lift the sheets one at a time.

In case of bad weather conditions, such as rain or strong winds, it is better to postpone this process until more favorable conditions occur.

Hydro- and vapor barriers

Any residential building must be provided with reliable hydro- and vapor barriers; they provide reliable protection against moisture getting into the insulation, which is also provided in the roof structure.

Insulation layers are made from a variety of materials that are freely sold in hardware stores. The main thing is to make the right choice and not get confused in the assortment.

First of all, such a layer serves not only as an obstacle to liquid, it is also capable of evaporating it. Moreover, waterproofing performs its function from the outside of the roof structure, and vapor barrier is reliable from the inside.

The roof needs high-quality insulation, they achieve this with the help of matte insulation, which is laid after using a vapor barrier film. The final stage will be the laying of a waterproofing film, which is a membrane that is resistant to ultraviolet rays and temperature changes.

By purchasing hydro - and vapor barrier films, it is important to focus on quality. At making the right choice and construction installation of corrugated sheets, the insulating layers can not be changed for more than 40 years.

Required tools and materials

Laying the roof with corrugated sheets by hand, the process is quite complicated. First of all, it requires the presence basic knowledge in this area, as well as the presence of mandatory materials and fixtures, on which, in essence, the quality of the original roof will depend.

  1. Scissors for cutting metal (special hand scissors, electric scissors).
  2. Bend pliers.
  3. Gun for removing sealant from the bolt.
  4. Strip bender.
  5. Stapler.
  6. Screwdriver.
  7. Roulette.
  8. Construction knife.
  9. Level.
  10. Drill.
  11. Hammer.
  12. Self-tapping screws made of galvanized steel with a neoprene rubber gasket.

If corrugated sheets are treated with a colored polymer coating, it is recommended to select fasteners in accordance with the color.

DIY installation

The corrugated sheeting is laid on the sheathing, which serves as a reinforcing structure, to eliminate possible bending of the roof under the weight atmospheric precipitation and in strong winds.

You need to start by attaching the end strip, which is fixed at the height point of the roof profile, above the frame. At the level of the frame, under the strip of the gutter with the funnel, a flooring is made of planks. It should be on both sides with an indentation size of sixty centimeters.

The option when the groove is made of galvanized alloy provides for an overlap of 20 centimeters. The bottom strip is attached using self-tapping screws to the edges. Its main and reinforced attachment is carried out during the process of laying and fixing the corrugated sheet. It is advisable to equip the joints with a sealant, especially if the roof is flat.

For any roof structure, the stage of installing the eaves strip is suitable. A universal seal is placed between it and the corrugated sheet plate, and ventilation is also thought out. The curved edge of the profiled plate, which provides for water drainage, should be located at the bottom during installation.

With a slight slope of the roof, the sheets are laid using the method of throwing plates in two waves; for flat roofs, the profiled plate is laid in one wave. In the latter case, the use of seals is mandatory.

Having familiarized yourself with the details of the installation diagram, you can proceed to the specifics of laying corrugated sheets.

Step by step instructions

  1. The installation of any roof should begin from the right end.
  2. When overlapping hip roof, laying of profiled plates begins on both sides, starting from the highest point of the slope.
  3. Using self-tapping screws, install and secure the eaves strip, leaving an overhang indentation of 4 cm. Place the sealant in the gap between the profiled sheet and the strip.
  4. It is necessary to pay attention to the slope; if it is less than 14–12 degrees, then a sealant will be required on the longitudinal seams, and the overlap of the sheets should be 2 waves.
  5. First of all, secure the first sheet with one self-tapping screw (this is necessary so that it can be rotated), then it is aligned along the edges in accordance with the cornice.
  6. Subsequent sheets are laid overlapping and secured at the corners with self-tapping screws.
  7. The first four laid sheets must be aligned with a cord and then secured.
  8. Starting the second level of corrugated sheeting, you should attach the first sheet of the second row to the first sheet of the first row.
  9. When choosing the order of laying corrugated sheets, you will need to take into account the factors of temperature differences, as well as the possibility strong winds and snow.

Laying methods

There are two ways to lay corrugated sheeting on the roof.

1 way. This method is called vertical laying. Lower the first sheet down from the overhang by 4 cm and attach it using a self-tapping screw. Next, take the second profiled plate and align it with the sides of the first plate and secure it. Using this method, assemble four sheets together, and then fasten them at the top of the waves using self-tapping screws. New blocks are added to the resulting section.

Method 2. With this method, a section is made that includes three profiled plates. Two plates are laid in the first row and aligned along the edge, followed by fastening. The whole point of this method is that the third plate from the second row should be docked last. All subsequent sections are assembled using the same method.

If all instructions are followed and fastened well, the corrugated roofing will be reliable and of high quality.

Ridge and end strips: how to install

The standard length of the end strip is 2 meters; to increase it, you can overlap the planks. When installing them, choose the direction towards the ridge starting from the roof overhang. The end strip must necessarily overlap at least one wave crest. In increments of about a meter, this bar is secured using self-tapping screws.

The next mandatory stage in roof construction will be attaching the ridge.

The skates are installed using an overlap of 20 centimeters and secured using self-tapping screws to the profiled plate. The distance between the fasteners should not be less than 25 centimeters. All ridge elements must have a smooth surface.

Junction strips

As well as end strip, the junction bar has a factory length of 2 meters. At the junction of the plank with the corrugated sheets, it is fastened in increments of 40 centimeters with self-tapping screws.

Having familiarized yourself with all the secrets and features of installing a roof with corrugated sheets, you can draw a clear conclusion that anyone can do it with their own hands!
