Beautiful concrete figures for the garden with your own hands. How to make flowerpots, flowerpots and pots from concrete How to make a flower pot from concrete

Ennobling the site country house or cottages, can be used different techniques landscape design. Some people like a rockery, while others just need to decorate the space with small details. Take the flowerpot: filled flowering plants, it looks unique. At the same time, this product can be made with your own hands: we understand the intricacies of the process.

Species

The concrete flowerpot is a decorative vase of small architectural form, which can be made of different materials. This is a beautiful pot for plants and flowers. It helps gardeners in cultivating particularly sensitive plants and allows them to select the optimal soil composition for each of them. The flowerpot also carries a decorative load: with it you can place bright accents in the landscape space, emphasizing the uniqueness of the garden.

Existing varieties are divided into several categories. Flowerpots are:

  • street (garden);
  • indoor;
  • decorative.

Each type has its own characteristics, although in general the properties of the varieties are identical: the difference lies in the size and material used in each specific case. For example, garden flowers are often medium-sized.

If the landscape space is large, you can use outdoor varieties for flowers: they are larger, often higher, so the plants in them often hang down, creating an indescribable atmosphere of antiquity.

Decorative models are smaller, they are displayed at the entrance, they are a unique component for giving the interior landscape the desired atmosphere. Small options are often moved around, so they are portable. Large models often resemble flower beds, characterized by shallow depth.

Materials

The main material in creating a flowerpot is concrete. This composition consists of:

  • crushed stone;
  • sand;
  • cement;
  • water;
  • special additives.

The binding component is Portland cement, which includes clinker of the same name, gypsum, slag, ash, pozzolans and other mineral inclusions. Other types of Portland cement are expanded clay concrete (crushed stone is replaced with expanded clay) or sand concrete (the function of fillers is performed by mixed-grade sand). The water for mixing the composition can be different: drinking, ground, technical, sea (not suitable for reinforced concrete flowerpots).

In addition to the main raw materials, auxiliary and decorative materials are used in the work. The first category includes improvised means with which you can make a flowerpot. These are a variety of items that can be used as a form of a flowerpot, as well as a load that allows you to achieve required thickness products. Some of the most interesting and unexpected solutions include:

  • big and small empty boxes from under food;
  • used plastic bottles and buckets left over after renovation;
  • old basins, buckets, tubs;

  • rubber gloves for cleaning (high density);
  • wooden boards, cardboard, dishes;
  • metal rods, wire;
  • old towels, rags or other fabric of rectangular, square, round, oval shape;
  • old shoes, children's toys of the right sizes;
  • boxes from furniture that has fallen into disrepair.

Mostly small stones are used as a load: due to their size, they perfectly fill the internal part necessary to give the flowerpot its shape, and also act as a load with low weight. These raw materials can be found in any garden or area of a country house. If you have problems finding it, you can use sand, which is also heavy and has a small volume.

If there is no sand on the site, you can use part of the dry cement composition for work, sealing it tightly in several plastic bags before the work process.

Decorative elements of a concrete vase depend on the stylistic idea. In the classic version, the flowerpot may not have any decor at all: the emphasis can be placed on the unusual shape, because the abundance of decor does not always look harmonious with the flowers or other plants that will be in the flowerpot. The most interesting raw materials for finishing are glass, coins, small multi-colored stones, rhinestones, mirror fragments, stained glass and paints.

Connoisseurs of creativity use in their work natural materials, conveying a unique texture (for example, green leaves) to the concrete surface.

Sizes and shapes

The shape of a flowerpot today does not comply with any standards. It is not limited in size; a concrete flower vase can be:

Dimensions vary from 20 cm or more. Some varieties can reach a length of more than 1 meter, the width can be 60–120 cm.

The shape of the products is divided into the usual classic and non-standard. The first category includes concrete flowerpots geometric shapes(round, square, rectangular, hexagonal, octagonal, oval varieties).

The second group cannot be confused with anything - flowerpots can be presented in the form:

  • silhouette of a fairy-tale character;
  • parts of the sculpture (for example, these could be hands holding flowers);
  • pairs of hearts of different sizes;
  • openwork stone bowl;
  • corrugated vase;

  • stars with different numbers of ends and a round base;
  • a man's shoe, boot or elegant women's slipper;
  • a charming kitten, lamb or other animal;
  • wicker basket with a long handle;
  • iris flower, lotus;
  • stylization as a magical totem.

Moreover, the difficulty of creation may lie not in experience, but in the lack of patience. Any product can be made independently at professional level.The process involves:

  • availability of necessary raw materials, finishing, sketch (for complex models);
  • preparing a solution of the required consistency;
  • compliance with process technology;
  • maintaining the required time for drying the concrete base;
  • adjustment of shape (for options made of washed concrete);
  • decorating or painting a flowerpot.

Necessary tools and mixtures

For the work process that is carried out in the summer, you will not need many materials if you decide in advance on the appearance, think through the raw materials, decor and frame. Depending on the specific case, use cement, sand or ready mixture. Water and the composition should always be at hand: sometimes the composition turns out to be dense, so it needs to be brought to the desired consistency

In other cases, the mass should not spread; this is necessary for models that are performed like sculptural modeling.

If the sand is not uniform, you may need a special sieve for the job. It is preferable to choose cement of at least M-400. This composition will work well and will not cause difficulties during the work process. In addition to this, you may need:

  • polyethylene film;
  • frame raw materials (what will serve as the basis or form);
  • ready-made stencils, anti-stencils;
  • gloves, spatula;
  • metal pipe (for drainage);
  • container for mixing concrete;
  • non-stick spray (VD-40 grease or motor oil);
  • paints and brushes, as well as a knife for cutting and adjusting the pattern.

Some home craftsmen even use tile adhesive left over after laying wall or floor tiles. Due to perfectly balanced proportions and homogeneity, this material mixes well with other components without forming lumps.

Everyone chooses their own finish: it’s enough for one to decorate the surface with pebbles different shapes, leaving the dominant place of decoration to fresh flowers. Others undertake work to demonstrate design skills, decorating the surface with carved patterns, for example, in an Indian theme. At the same time, plants in this tandem look no less stylish.

How to make: step-by-step master class

Whatever model you have in mind, its manufacturing technology will follow approximately the same processes. The difference may lie in the number of steps: the more complex the product, the more there are. This is especially true for products that require modeling. To analyze the essence of the work, let's consider the general technology, and then several options for making a stylish flowerpot made of concrete. This will allow you to understand why the steps in the master classes are different.

The solution is mixed to the same consistency as for laying tiles: the mass does not spread, nor is it thick. If it is planned to impregnate the composition, it must be more liquid, otherwise it will not be able to completely saturate the desired form. More often, two containers are used to give the desired shape. One of them is filled with mortar, the other is inserted into the mortar and filled with pressure (heavy objects, sand) so that the concrete rises along the edges of the original form.

So that the cement can be separated from the main form, a large container chosen as a base is treated inside with a lubricant. For this purpose, you can use plastic film, but it is not always possible to straighten it perfectly, so manufacturing flaws may be visible on the finished product. The second form is treated with lubricant from the outside (in the place where it comes into contact with the solution). General instructions is this:

  • more concrete material is poured into the bottom of the container, with an average layer thickness of 3–4 cm;
  • if necessary, level the bottom layer with a spatula - then this will not be possible;
  • for drainage insert cut into small pieces metal pipe, treated externally with lubricant;
  • a smaller form is placed on metal pieces, filled with sand or other load (gravel, crushed stone), prepared in advance;

  • after fixing the second container, the concrete solution is poured between the forms, not forgetting to pierce it with a thin metal rod (so that there are no air bubbles left in it);
  • trim the top edge of the future flowerpot using a spatula or a regular spoon;
  • the workpiece is covered with polyethylene and left for at least a day (until it dries completely);
  • after drying, remove all unnecessary elements (if necessary, they are broken; if the structure has a metal frame, the auxiliary parts are carefully removed);
  • flower girls are immersed in water for 1 week (large items are generously sprayed with water 4 times a day and covered with film, repeating this for 10–14 days);
  • After the required time has passed, the flowerpots will only need to be decorated and painted.

If inserts into the surface are planned (for example, mirror fragments or stones), they are pressed into the material when the concrete is still pliable. The same applies to stencils: you need to press down the shape at the moment the concrete hardens.

Let's briefly go through the different types of manufacturing.

Flowerpot-sculpture

To make a charming cat flowerpot, you will need 6 wooden supports(you can use legs from old stools) and a plastic container for the body. The supports are fixed to the container using aluminum wire, using four paws to construct them, and the remaining two to form a tail and a head. Then interior space the flowerpot is finished with concrete, the outside is sculptured. For the head, you can use any round-shaped object.

Work with the material gradually, otherwise the mass risks falling off the base. When the solution hardens, you need to sand the surface. Then you need to paint the shape in the color you like, giving the cat original coloring. You can coat the top of the product with varnish.

From plastic containers

This method is the simplest. Used 5 liter bottles are cut to required height, then concrete is poured onto the bottom. Inserted more often round shape, following the basic technology, filling it with sand in a bag or gravel. When frozen, some flowerpots have a ready-made relief pattern in the form of transverse stripes, left by the shape of a larger container. Others look original, featuring a curly edge shape.

Made from fabric

No less simple to make is a flowerpot made from textiles or an old towel. To create it you will need a mixing container, a cloth, a bucket and a support. Everything here is extremely simple: the fabric is dipped into the concrete solution until completely saturated, then hung on a bucket placed on a support. If necessary, you can immediately correct the edges of the future flowerpot by trimming them or bending them to the sides, like flower petals, when the solution begins to harden.

There can be a lot of fabric options, as well as material structures: the flowerpot can turn out airy, openwork.

If you use towels, the design will have an original relief. You can saturate various things with concrete mortar. For example, it could be a regular woven bag with drawstrings, a scarf, or old jeans.

Some people like paper (like box shape): this material After the solution hardens, it takes on the original texture. Its production does not differ from the basic technology. Moreover, you can vary the shape itself: the box can have concave, convex side edges, or asymmetry. The main rule of all materials is free access to the removal of used devices, otherwise it will be problematic to separate the workpiece from the base.

Finishing

Finishing a concrete flowerpot is a creative and exciting process. It is not enough to create a shape: you need to give it an attractive appearance. To do this, concrete is often washed, giving the surface a unique texture. Another finishing technique is interspersing different materials. The design can be very diverse: painting the product bronze or gilded will give the product a vintage touch. The white type of surface will fit well into a garden interior that contains statues, or it will be an independent accent of the site.

In this instruction I will describe how to make a stylish/fashionable/youthful flower pot from concrete. The backstory is very simple, I moved to new apartment, I had more free space and I decided to use it somehow. I have long wanted to make something out of concrete, and I realized that this was the perfect chance!

Step 1: Materials

Concrete itself doesn’t look bad, but I still like it better when it has texture/color. So I went to the nearest beach where I got pebbles and shells, and then to a pet store where I bought some aquarium soil.

Step 2: Making the shape

If you have not yet decided on the shape of the pot, now is the time to do so. We will need to make a form into which the concrete will be poured. To determine the dimensions of the mold, I took an old plastic pot and traced its outline onto a piece of MDF. Then I googled “how to draw a hexagon correctly.” The first photo shows the finished circuit. I made the sides of the form from MDF (5mm).

Step 3: Glue the form together

The form must be waterproof, so all joints must be sealed, for example, with sealant.

From the inside of the mold I applied PVA to the joints. On last photo already completed mold, ready to be poured.

Step 4: Prepare the mold for pouring

I had no previous experience working with concrete, but I heard that concrete structures usually reinforced with reinforcement. I’m not sure that something as small as a flower pot would need it, but who knows? I used large nails for reinforcement, these will be placed into the concrete as it is poured into the mold.

I placed an old plastic pot inside the mold, leaving virtually no free space for pouring - this would soon become a problem.

Then I mixed the aquarium soil, pebbles and shells with the concrete mixture (photo 4-5), without water for now.

Step 5: Pouring Concrete

Pouring concrete turned into a SILENT HORROR, unfortunately I couldn’t capture it because my hands were covered in cement and I didn’t want to touch the camera.

First, I mixed all the “ingredients” (pebbles, shells) with concrete, in what seemed to me to be more than the required quantity. Then I added water (the instructions for the concrete mixture said “add as much as needed,” which confused me a little and made me think about the meaning of existence) and began to mix the whole thing in a bucket wooden spoon...Obviously the spoon was not the best tool, but for the next 10 minutes I still panicked and tried to mix everything properly. While I was doing this, my hand accidentally caught and cut itself on a sharp stone in the mixture. And yet what was started was completed. When I thought the consistency was right, I tried to pour it into the mold, and immediately realized that the gaps between the edges of the mold and the plastic pot were no good, they were too narrow and the concrete was too thick. I had to apply/push it into the mold with my bare hands.

About halfway through I ran out of solution. Not to say it was a big problem, I still had the mixture itself, but there were no more colored stones and shells. All that was left was the pebbles, so I mixed the concrete with them, this time adding a lot more water.

The nails were also added as the mold was filled with concrete and there were no problems with them. Once that was done, I shook the mold a little to get rid of any air bubbles and spent the next 10 minutes in the bathroom trying to get the cement off my hands.

Here are a few things I learned from my first experience with concrete:
- Trying to mix concrete with a wooden spoon is a bad idea.
- it’s best to mix concrete outside, because the dry concrete mixture scatters through the air very easily
- cement is very bad for the skin
- no need to skimp on water

Step 6: Parsing the Form

Considering that at the last stage not everything went smoothly, I was almost sure that the structure would begin to crumble into pieces when disassembled. Fortunately, this did not happen.

On the contrary, after disassembling the form and seeing what happened in the end, I thought that not everything was so bad. You can tell guests that I specifically planned to make the body of the pot in two layers.

Step 7: Putty

To smooth out some of the gaps and gouges in the lower half of the pot body, I decided to cover them up. I made the putty from the same dry mixture. Then I treated the body with plenty of water and wrapped it in film to allow the concrete to harden. As it turns out, this process can take up to a week (although the instructions on the package didn't say anything about this), but I left the pot sealed overnight and then unpacked it for further processing.

Step 8: Sanding

I started by sanding down the entire body with a large file. This way I was able to smooth out all the corners and edges. I then sanded the sides a bit to smooth them out a bit as well.

As it turned out, I didn't apply the putty very well, and there were still large pits on the walls, so I had to repeat the process by applying another layer and drying it. Photo 6 shows the final result.

It’s not difficult to make a concrete planter with your own hands, the main thing is to have it on hand concrete mixture. The main components of concrete are cement, sand, crushed stone and water, but we will do without crushed stone and exclude it from the preparation of the mixture. The created concrete planter is ideal for cacti. As you know, cacti grow in rocky deserts against the backdrop of mountainous terrain, on rocky ledges. So, a concrete planter resembles a rocky ledge - a native dry place for thorny plants. For work, you can use sea or river pebbles, fragments of broken plates, shells - all this decorates and decorates the concrete planter self made. Watch the master class and be inspired by hand-made to decorate your garden or dacha, especially since very soon spring will come and all our efforts will be aimed at improving the dacha or garden area.

How to make a concrete pot with your own hands.

For work we will need:

  • concrete mix,
  • plastic, aluminum or enamel bowl of the required size,
  • plastic bag,
  • sea or river pebbles,
  • shells, fragments of broken plates,
  • rubber gloves,

Let's get to work. For the concrete mixture we take cement, sand and water. To create a flowerpot with a capacity of 0.5 liters (meaning a bowl that will serve as a mold for concrete), we will need 1 kg of cement, 0.5 kg of sifted sand and 0.4 liters of water. We put protective rubber gloves on our hands. Mix cement with sand and fill it with water, mix a thick concrete mixture. Place the bowl bottom up on a plastic base and cover it with polyethylene.

The concrete mixture should be thick enough, not liquid, and it should not flow during operation. If you get a runny composition, add more cement. We begin to cover the bowl with concrete mixture, starting from the bottom edge with upward movements. The thickness of the concrete mixture should be no more than 2-3 cm. Smooth the entire surface with your hands, lightly moistening the gloves with water. Don't forget to make a hole in the bottom of the flowerpot.

We decorate the pots with shells, pebbles and fragments of broken plates.

We leave the concrete pots to dry, this will take about two days at room temperature. After drying, remove our bowl from the pot. The finished flowerpot can continue to be decorated along the top edge with pebbles and shells. To do this, take some cement and water, mix the mixture and decorate the edge of the flowerpot.

That's the whole master class) We place the substrate for cacti in a DIY pot created by ourselves and plant our thorny plants. Good luck to you!

How to make a pot from cement and fabric with your own hands for outdoor decoration

A flowerpot is a hollow decorative vessel for a pot of plants. Most often they are made of plastic, wood or ceramics; they can even be made from a rag. For street decoration use more durable and resistant to various natural conditions material. So, a cement planter will serve you for many years. Therefore, we suggest you learn how to make a flowerpot from cement and fabric with your own hands.

Differences from the pot

Before you start, you should know fundamental differences pots from pots.

Both of these elements can be made in interesting design solutions. The main advantage of flower pots over flower pots is that there are no holes in the tray. It turns out that when watering you will not need to ensure that water mixed with soil does not flow onto the surface of the furniture.

However, it is worth noting that some types of flowers do not like stagnant water; excess moisture from the pots may need to be removed.

Particularly popular are hanging planters:

Let's get started

Outdoor flower pots, as mentioned above, are best made from durable materials. This master class will be dedicated to planters made of cement and rags.

Upon completion of the work, it is worth knowing that the cement pots can be easily decorated with acrylic paints.

In order to make such an outdoor planter, you will need:

  • concrete mixture (cement + sand + water);
  • old rags;
  • bucket;
  • protective gloves;

The manufacturing method is extremely simple (provided with a description).

You need to take an old rag (and the more holey it is, the more interesting the end result will be), thoroughly moisten it in the concrete mixture and throw it over an inverted bucket. The rag is the frame of the future flowerpot.

You can use any other object of the desired shape as a base. All you have to do is wait until the product dries well. If desired, you can decorate it with paints.

A few photos of finished flower pots:

In order for the flowerpot to be as durable as possible, you should not rush; you need to give it two to three days to dry completely. This product will withstand any weather surprises.

Cement crafts for the garden: more than 20 ideas, instructions and master classes

Having summer cottage plot, you always want to arrange it, and in some special way. However, garden decorative elements They are not cheap, and they are not durable.

People with developed imagination can do original crafts for a garden made of cement, which is not only highly resistant to various types of influence (frost, hail, sun, water), but also accessible (you can buy it at any hardware store for a reasonable price).

The nuances of working with cement mortar

Can be used for decoration and design addition flower pots, flowerpots, figurines of fairy-tale characters or objects flora made with your own hands from cement. This material cannot be called capricious, and most people have a lot or little experience working with it. Still there are a few important rules that must be observed in order for crafts made from cement mortar to be of high quality and durable.

The technology for preparing the mixture is as follows. The main components are prepared: cement, construction sand, water and tile adhesive (for better ductility and reducing the risk of microcracks). For 1 part of cement, take 2 parts of sand (for greater strength, you can take 1 part) and 1 part of glue. Lastly, add water in small portions to the consistency of thick sour cream. It is convenient to work with such a mixture: it does not flow and at the same time is quite plastic.

All cement products require prolonged drying. Hardening can last up to 7 days. To prevent the surface from cracking, the finished creation is covered with polyethylene. To give the product a beautiful and correct form, the base is placed on a hill of sand or buried in it (depending on the idea), but not on a flat surface.

After complete hardening, the figure must be coated with a primer and only after that can paint or varnish be applied. If the craft has roughness and other irregularities, it should be refined with sandpaper and a file before priming.

In addition to cement mortar, concrete is sometimes used, which is characterized by the presence of large fractions (pebbles or crushed stone) and increased strength. Crafts made from concrete for a summer residence can be represented by large monolithic boulders, and this material is also convenient to use to create the basis for various compositions (a platform for a fountain, a pedestal for a sculpture, a terrace for flower pots and so on).

Another material similar in its application is gypsum. It is not as strong as cement, but more plastic and decorative. It can be used to create hollow shapes. For garden creativity, molding (sculptural), acrylic and architectural views. When working with this material, you need to take into account its rapid hardening. It is often recommended to add it to cement mortar when creating sculptures.

Having no experience using cement in decorative purposes, it is better to start with something simple that does not require modeling skills and obtaining the desired consistency. The first exhibits in your garden can be cute mushrooms, colorful balls or original flower pots.

To make a mushroom you will need an old rubber ball (the size of the cap will depend on its size), a plastic bottle (it will become the basis for the stem, its size should be proportional to the cap), a metal rod to attach the cap to the stem. The ball is cut into two halves, one of which is placed in a bucket of sand and pressed evenly. Next, cement mortar is poured into the resulting form and leveled.

The bottom and neck of a plastic bottle are cut off and inserted into the filled mold in the center, immersing it by 1 - 2 cm. Then, using a long iron rod, the future stem and cap of the mushroom are connected and the cavity inside the bottle is filled with solution. The product should harden for several days, after which you need to remove the piece of the ball and the plastic cylinder.

After a few more days, the product can be coated with paint and decorated. different elements. Mushrooms of different sizes look impressive on the plot in the form of a small clearing. It is also worth noting that your imagination may tell you to use other containers (bowls, jars) and methods for making garden mushrooms.

It’s enough to just make an openwork ball that seems so light and airy. For the base, use a balloon (the size of the future shapes depends on how much you inflate the balloon). Next, any rope is placed in the prepared solution and then the ball is wrapped around it.

Do not wrap the base too tightly; you need to leave enough holes for further removal of pieces of the burst ball. When the product is dry, you can begin decorative coating.

If you cover balloons cement mortar with the addition of a small amount of gypsum for faster hardening, you can get original garden lanterns or flower pots.

Using this technique you can also make vases for dried flowers. In this case decorative painting is exposed not only to the external, but also inner side.

If you pour the solution into a small hole in rubber balls, you can get monolithic balls different sizes. Painted in different bright colors and chaotically scattered around the garden, they will become laconic and stylish decoration.

Using plastic containers, you can make a flower pot for Crassula and Crassula Ovata cacti. The container is wrapped plastic bag, and a bag of clay or sand is placed inside so that the container holds its shape. Next, it is covered with cement mortar. After complete drying, all auxiliary materials are removed, drainage holes are made in the bottom using a drill, the product is primed and painted.

It's very easy to make a flowerpot using a plastic bucket or vase and another suitable container.

One container is inserted into another, and the solution is poured into the space between them. The result is a high-quality product that can be further decorated by showing your imagination to the fullest.

Flowers planted in flowerpots made from crossed palms look attractive. To create such a masterpiece, use ordinary rubber gloves, which are evenly filled with the solution. For rigidity, you need to insert a thick wire rod into each finger. To ensure a high-quality product, the formation of air bubbles must not be allowed.

When the gloves are filled, they are given the desired shape and fixed. After a few days, the rubber is cut and removed. If you need to connect two palms, then use the same solution. At the final stage, the surface is polished with sandpaper, primed and painted.

Complex figures with a frame

It's more fun to decorate your country house sculptures of animals and mythical characters. Such creations mean pre-production durable frame and layer-by-layer application of cement mortar.

Interesting flowerpots can be made using buckets from building mixtures. At the first stage, a container of suitable size is wrapped with a plaster mesh and covered with a thick layer of cement. At the second stage, until complete hardening, decorative adjustments are made, making an imitation of an old stump with natural wrinkles on the bark.

A monolithic figure of a hippopotamus would look appropriate near artificial reservoirs. The place for it must be determined immediately and carefully leveled, since in the future the figure will be stationary.

Two elongated plastic basins, which must be fastened with wire, are suitable as a frame. Another option is also possible: a thick cement solution is covered on top of the heap broken bricks or crushed stones.

The figure itself does not contain complex elements and is easy to perform. After hardening, the product is treated with fixing impregnation and dry pigment for concrete, rubbing the powder with a hard sponge.

More complex sculptures are made in several stages: 1) making a frame from wire and foam plastic or containers; 2) covering the workpiece with a plaster mesh; 3) applying the mixture in several layers; 4) formation of small details (facial features, special texture, folds of clothing, etc.); 5) primer and painting finished work.

An elegant decoration the garden will become flowerpots in the shape of swans. The body frame is an old plastic basin, the neck is woven wire. The head, wings and imitation plumage will have to be made from a cement mixture, showing the skills of a sculptor.

Monolithic figures have a significant weight, so as an alternative there is a way to create lightweight large objects. You can decorate your garden with boulders of different sizes.

To make them, any unnecessary and light material (trimmings) is tied into a tight lump with wire polyurethane foam, plastic bottles, foam).

The resulting base is wrapped in a plaster mesh and covered with thick cement mortar. The more irregularities and protrusions there are, the more natural the “stone” will look.

Small garden figurines are made from a mixture of cement with the addition of gypsum or Portland cement.

Here you can use the manufacturing methods described above, as well as any basics: old toys, items of clothing, household utensils.

Step-by-step manufacturing instructions: 3 master classes

To examine in more detail the nuances of the creativity presented in the article, we will consider the best master classes with a step-by-step explanation of the work being carried out.

1. Spectacular flowerpots made of cement and fabric

To make flowerpots for the garden from cement and fabric, use either pure cement or Portland cement. In this case, the mixture with water should be quite liquid. You will also need a bucket or other container for the frame, a piece of polyethylene and a piece of fabric.

The material must be dense enough and absorb liquids well, i.e. synthetics will not work here. It is better to use cotton fabric.

  • Cutting off a piece the right size. If you need smooth edges, then round them;
  • We wet the material generously in the solution;
  • We attach polyethylene to the prepared bucket;
  • Lay the fabric soaked in the solution on top and smooth it out;
  • After 2 days, the cement will set and the bucket can be removed;
  • The product is lightly moistened with water and left to dry completely for another 5 days.

Even large-sized plants can be planted in a ready-made flowerpot.

Experiment with the shape and coloring of flowerpots and create your own unique compositions.

2. Funny cat for the garden

To begin, we prepare a frame from a cut plastic bottle and wooden slats, which are fastened with wire.

The solution is prepared from cement and sand in a 1:1 ratio; additionally (directly into the hand) gypsum is added during the work. By gradually applying the solution, all the details of the sculpture are created.

The finished figure is polished with a damp hand and left to dry for 4 days. Finishing touch- painting with water-based emulsion or enamel.

3. Large leaf drinker for birds and pets

An equally successful and versatile garden decoration would be a sheet of cement. Placed on a mound of sand plastic film, and then - large leaf(the mound will allow you to get a figure with a depression, rather than a flat one). If there are small holes in the sheet, they should be covered with small leaves so that the cement mortar does not leak.

Cover the workpiece with film for several days until it dries. Then the sheet is removed, primed and painted.

If desired, you can make a fabulous fountain from several similar blanks.

You don’t need to be a genius to see how relevant it is in modern architecture and design. Today, its place is no longer clearly localized in the familiar areas where we have long become accustomed to it: in structural elements and sex tapes, for example. A material that was previously denied its own attractiveness is now being rediscovered precisely for its decorative qualities.

Now you can increasingly see how concrete is used in the most trivial situations. It has long since moved from the streets to public and residential premises, proving its versatility. Today, even furniture is made from concrete.

The combination of concrete with soft and natural materials, contrary to some habit of “marrying” it with glass and metal, today sets a new tactile and visual dimension to design.

In order to keep up with the times, and at the same time expand somewhat your ideas about outside world, let's think about a simple problem, for example: how to make a flowerpot out of concrete?

Deciding on the form

The first step is to decide on the form. There can be many options - this is also a kind of creativity. They recommend being guided by common sense and a vision of the whole: how your flowerpot will look not only with specific plants, but also in an ensemble.

One way or another, you'll have to follow some universal rules product castings.

The mold for making a flowerpot consists of two elements identical in shape (which is exactly what you have to choose from the very beginning), but different in size. This is done in such a way that the gap between both elements, when the smaller one is placed in the larger one, is approximately five centimeters. This value corresponds to the thickness of the walls of the future flowerpot.

We must remember that what larger size future product, the thicker its walls should be. However, the difference is not so radical. So, a product over 60 centimeters must have walls of about 7.5 centimeters.

A form can be created from almost anything. Glass, plastic, stainless steel and even cardboard is perfect for this. An excellent option is polystyrene foam, a plastic, pliable and lightweight material.

Concrete planters

Flowerpots are a wonderful opportunity for creativity. One of the “optional” elements of interior or garden design, for which we rarely decide to go on a long “hunt” through flea markets or specialty stores. However, it’s always nice to make these kinds of objects with your own hands.

Concrete planters - another one new trend. An element of decor, traditionally associated with a certain model of comfort and continuity, here acquires completely different features: openness, reluctance to hide behind complexes. Such a “new thing” will always come in handy in a modern interior, but even in traditional rooms, decorative elements made of concrete are found more and more often today, which changes our idea of tradition.

How to make a designer flowerpot from concrete?

The procedure for casting concrete products is not too labor-intensive, but nevertheless requires some technical knowledge. You need to understand that failure to comply with basic technological conditions can affect the quality of the product, and in the worst case, even reduce all the work to nothing.

Preparing the mold

The mold - what we did a step earlier - must be properly prepared before concrete is poured into it. Otherwise, there is a high probability that the finished flowerpot cannot be removed from the mold itself.

The inner surface of the mold, both of its parts, must be treated with mineral oil or a special lubricant. This will create the necessary intermediate layer, thanks to which you can subsequently remove the finished product without difficulty and without destroying the mold.

Mixing concrete

The first step is to take some precautions: for example, when working with concrete, it would be a good idea to use rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Concrete should be mixed in a sufficiently capacious container, for example, in an old bathtub or tank. High grade concrete that is not susceptible to cracking should be preferred.

Based on the manufacturer's recommendations, calculate required quantity dry substance for the solution, pour it into a container and then, gradually and stirring the solution, pour in required volume water. The finished solution should have the consistency of cake batter.

At this stage, various decorative additives can be added to the solution: glass, pebbles, shells, beads or other materials, as well as various dyes. It is necessary, however, to ensure that all these manipulations do not radically change the consistency of the solution.

Pour in the mixture

Pour the concrete mixture evenly into the bottom of the outside of the mold - this will be the base of the planter. If you plan to make drainage holes, you can form them at this stage, or leave the finished product to harden for at least two days and drill afterwards.

Level and smooth the concrete with a trowel. Insert the inside of the mold and press until you achieve the desired base thickness. The base and walls of the pots should be the same thickness. However, sometimes a base that is thicker than the walls is allowed, but not vice versa.

Then the distance between the parts of the form is filled with concrete mortar. Systematically compact the concrete layer with a trowel and pour the solution along the walls of the form - this will help preserve flat surface walls of the product and avoid the formation of air bubbles.

Having filled the form to the top, level and smooth the protruding surface.

Let it harden

After pouring, the mold and contents are wrapped in plastic film and left in this form for approximately 36 hours. After this time, the concrete is tested using a knife or screwdriver: if they leave marks on the surface, the product should be dried for some more time.

Extracting the product

After drying, making sure that the concrete is sufficiently hard, the product is removed from the mold. Comes off slowly at first inner part. If the mold was made from glass that was not pre-coated with lubricant or mineral oil, the mold will have to be broken. The cardboard mold may leave marks on the plant pot that will need to be scraped off later.

The pot is then removed from the outer part of the mold. The outside surface of the product is smoothed using a coarse brush or abrasive paper. Throughout next week The pots cannot be used yet - the concrete must completely dry and acquire all its consumer qualities.

After drying for at least two days, you can drill drainage holes in the base of the planter.

Finally, rub the plant pot with a damp sponge or cloth to remove dust and reveal its true color and surface.

A finished concrete planter can decorate a garden, as well as a spacious room or even a hall. Don’t be afraid to experiment with concrete: although it may be a little laborious and time-consuming work, the result of such experiments can become a stylish and fresh addition to traditional decorative elements.

Having a summer cottage, you always want to arrange it, and in some special way. However, garden decorative elements are not cheap, and they are not durable.

People with a developed imagination can make original crafts for the garden from cement, which is not only highly resistant to various types of influence (frost, hail, sun, water), but also accessible (you can buy it at any hardware store for a reasonable price).

For decoration and design additions, you can use flower pots, flowerpots, figurines of fairy-tale characters or plant objects made with your own hands from cement. This material cannot be called capricious, and most people have a lot or little experience working with it. Still, there are several important rules that must be followed to ensure that crafts made from cement mortar are of high quality and durable.

The technology for preparing the mixture is as follows:.

To give the product a beautiful and regular shape, the base is placed on a mound of sand or buried in it (depending on the idea), but not on a flat surface.

Crafts made from concrete for a summer residence can be represented by large monolithic boulders, and this material is also convenient to use to create a base for various compositions (a platform for a fountain, a pedestal for a sculpture, a terrace for flower pots, etc.).

Another material similar in its application is gypsum. It is not as strong as cement, but more plastic and decorative. It can be used to create hollow shapes. For garden creativity, molding (sculptural), acrylic and architectural types are used. When working with this material, you need to take into account its rapid hardening. It is often recommended to add it to cement mortar when creating sculptures.

Having no experience in using cement for decorative purposes, it is better to start with something simple that does not require modeling skills and obtaining the desired consistency.

After a few more days, the product can be coated with paint and decorated with various elements.

If you cover the balloons with cement mortar with a small amount of gypsum added for faster hardening, you can get original garden lanterns or flower pots.

Using this technique you can also make vases for dried flowers. In this case, not only the outer side, but also the inner side is subjected to decorative painting.

If you pour the solution into a small hole in rubber balls, you can get monolithic balls of different sizes. Painted in different bright colors and randomly scattered around the garden, they will become a laconic and stylish decoration.

Using plastic containers, you can make a flower pot for Crassula and Crassula Ovata cacti. The container is wrapped in a plastic bag, and a bag of clay or sand is placed inside so that the container holds its shape.

It’s more fun to decorate your country house with sculptures of animals and mythical characters. Such creations involve the preliminary production of a durable frame and layer-by-layer application of cement mortar.

Interesting flowerpots can be made using buckets from construction mixtures.

Another option is also possible: a thick cement solution is covered on top of a pile of broken bricks or crushed stone.

The figure itself does not contain complex elements and is easy to perform. After hardening, the product is treated with fixing impregnation and dry pigment for concrete, rubbing the powder with a hard sponge.

More complex sculptures are made in several stages: 1) making a frame from wire and foam plastic or containers; 2) covering the workpiece with a plaster mesh; 3) applying the mixture in several layers; 4) formation of small details (facial features, special texture, folds of clothing, etc.); 5) priming and painting the finished work.

Flowerpots in the shape of swans will become an elegant decoration of the garden.

To make them, any unnecessary and lightweight material (cuts of polyurethane foam, plastic bottles, polystyrene foam) is tied into a tight lump with wire.

  • Cut a piece of the desired size. If you need smooth edges, then round them;
  • We wet the material generously in the solution;
  • We attach polyethylene to the prepared bucket;
  • Lay the fabric soaked in the solution on top and smooth it out;
  • After 2 days, the cement will set and the bucket can be removed;

The final touch is painting with water-based emulsion or enamel.

3. Large leaf drinker for birds and pets

An equally successful and versatile garden decoration would be a sheet of cement. A plastic film is placed on a mound of sand, and then a large sheet (the mound will allow you to get a shape with a depression, rather than a flat one). If there are small holes in the sheet, they should be covered with small leaves so that the cement mortar does not leak.

Cover the workpiece with film for several days until it dries. Then the sheet is removed, primed and painted.

If desired, you can make a fabulous fountain from several similar blanks.
