The modern market is truly saturated with heating equipment from different manufacturers. This also applies to heat generators using natural gas. Even if you know all the necessary parameters well, choosing among many brands will not be easy. In this article, we decided to compile a general rating of gas boilers, the purpose of which will be to help the average user decide and make the optimal choice.

Types of gas boilers

For a general understanding, we first present a brief classification of heat generators. They are divided into different types according to several criteria:

  • by combustion and exhaust method flue gases: these are units with an open (atmospheric) and closed (supercharged) combustion chamber;
  • according to the efficiency of using the combustion heat of gas: there are 2 categories - conventional and condensing boilers;
  • in terms of functionality: we mean the ability of a heat source to heat water for the needs of domestic hot water, this is one thing - and double-circuit gas boilers.
  • according to the installation method. According to this criterion, heat generators are divided into wall-mounted (suspended) and floor-mounted.

Advice. Before you start choosing a brand, you should select a unit according to all the listed criteria.

On the Internet you can find a variety of ratings of gas boilers, but we decided to present a rating of the most popular brands in the post-Soviet space, dividing them by country where the manufacturing companies are located. So, to begin with -

Western European manufacturers

It just so happens that residents of the CIS countries divide European brands into 3 groups: German, Italian and “all the rest”. We, too, will not break away from the people and will take a look at the most famous brands of these groups one by one, and start with the German ones:

  • BUDERUS;
  • VIESSMANN;
  • VILLANT;
  • BOSCH.

For reference. Since 2003, Buderus AG has belonged to the Robert Bosh GMBX concern.

The first 3 brands are leaders and trendsetters in the field of heating boilers; BOSCH joined them a little later. They all make the best gas boilers you can think of. The corporate colors, blue for BUDERUS, red and gray for VIESSMANN, are well known to a wide range of users.

The first 2 brands offer the widest range of heat generators of all types and capacities. At the same time, VAILLANT and BOSCH focused on wall-mounted boilers. And the reviews from homeowners sound very eloquent: if you take a floor-standing unit, then BUDERUS or VIESSMANN, and if you take a wall-mounted unit, then VAILLANT or BOSCH is better. But they all have the following characteristics in common:

  • high quality products;
  • reliability in operation;
  • constant implementation of the latest technical solutions;
  • high efficiency (efficiency up to 97%);
  • availability of the widest range of functions;
  • a complete set of process automation tools.

Unfortunately, while leading the rating in terms of quality, German boilers firmly hold the lead in cost. This is the highest price category and products of these brands are not available to everyone. Somewhat cheaper than others VAILLANT and BOSCH, but not much. Boiler maintenance is just as expensive.

If we compare boilers made in Italy and Germany, the former clearly win in price. Most popular brands:

  • BAXI;
  • ARISTON;
  • BERETTA.

The BAXI trademark can compete with the “Germans” in reliability and quality; it is not without reason that it has gained wide popularity in Russia and other post-Soviet states. The range of their products is equally wide and covers the entire domestic sphere - from simple floor-standing boilers to wall-mounted condensing boilers. Just like those of German manufacturers, BAXI heat generators are efficient and fully automated, from ignition to control by telephone or via the Internet.

Having just appeared on our market, the ARISTON and BERETTA brands demonstrated good performance at a reasonable price. Over the years, the ratings of double-circuit gas boilers of these brands have fallen, and many negative reviews have appeared regarding the reliability of operation, the quality of components and materials. IN given time products, despite their reasonable price, are not in great demand. Wall-mounted gas boilers and water heaters from these manufacturers are well known; floor-standing models were purchased much less frequently.

From the group of “everyone else”, a brand stands out sharply, firmly settled in the middle price category and gaining popularity in our market at an accelerated pace. This is the Slovenian brand PROTHERM, which has already gained a reputation for its reliable heating equipment. Wall and floor standing boilers, offered by the Slovenian manufacturer, may not be as stuffed with the latest achievements in the field of heating technology as the “Germans”, but they are affordable, reliable and adapted to the realities of the CIS countries.

Positive feedback about PROTHERM boilers sound not only from users, but also from the craftsmen who install them. This suggests that servicing the equipment is also relatively inexpensive.

Asian manufacturers

Among Asian heating boilers, we can distinguish 2 well-known brands and a whole group of products from the Middle Kingdom, which are quite difficult to list, and there is no need to list them. People have long formed their opinion about Chinese technology; to confirm this, we will add that the purchase Chinese boiler is a lottery, no matter how attractive the price. We will not review them, nor recommend them; everyone makes the decision to purchase these products for themselves.

One of the world-famous South Korean manufacturers of wall-mounted and floor-standing gas boilers is KITURAMI. We must pay tribute to the products of this brand: they are very reliable and high-tech, have all the same functions as the “Germans” and are just as well automated. The problem is that KITURAMI also “bites” on price and then the eminence of the brand begins to play a role, and here European brands benefit.

As for the reviews, they are mostly positive, that is, this “Korean” is on the same level as BAXI boilers and BOSCH. Also, the design of the unit is adapted to low gas pressure and other delights of the Russian outback. Definitely recommended for use.

Another, already budget version of a gas boiler for the home is a Korean unit of the NAVIEN brand. It appeared on our market relatively recently and has taken root well since then. Known for its wall-mounted heat generators, which have a full range of necessary functions and a good degree of automation. Despite the obvious budget, it received many positive reviews. Breakdowns do occur, but they can be fixed quickly and inexpensively. NAVIEN is a technique that people say has an optimal price-quality ratio.

Conclusion

As you can see, choosing a gas boiler is not easy even among manufacturers. If funds allow, you should not fall below the average price category, where the “Chinese” and CIS countries boilers are located. We did not talk about the latter, since they do not top any ratings. By and large, such boilers are a body made by us, equipped with imported automation, sometimes again Chinese.

The range of heating equipment is presented by companies from Germany, Russia, the Czech Republic, France, Korea and other countries. In total, about 50 heaters are offered various brands, differing in thermal engineering and performance characteristics, appearance and internal device.

It is not surprising that choosing a wall-mounted gas boiler turns out to be difficult even for a specialist, not to mention the average person.

Manufacturers of mounted gas boilers

To make the choice easier, you will need to consider several models of the most popular boilers in Russia. For convenience, all models are classified by location. The list contains both the best companies from Europe and relatively recently emerging concerns located in Asian countries.

Ultimately, it is up to the consumer to decide which manufacturer is better. In addition to the thermal technical characteristics of the proposed equipment, it is worth focusing on the pricing policy and adaptation to domestic operating conditions.

Boilers from Russia

Wall-mounted double-circuit domestic gas heating boilers are offered by several dozen manufacturers, but the most popular are domestic ones:
  • Neva Lux.
  • Elsotherm.
  • Neva-Transit.
  • Lemax.
  • BaltGaz.
What distinguishes the boilers offered by Russian companies and makes them one of the most popular models in their class of heating equipment:
  1. Easy to install and operate– heat generators have a design that is fully adapted to local heating conditions. The automation is not sensitive to voltage drops in the network, as well as pressure surges in the main line.
  2. Low cost– boilers Russian companies, are offered at a price affordable to domestic consumers.
Some manufacturers of heating equipment produced products during the Soviet Union, others began their activities already in the 21st century. Companies are constantly improving their products, focusing on European quality standards.

German boilers

The Germans are known for almost impeccable quality, high automation of boiler operation and good thermal characteristics. Many companies in Germany that produce heating devices began their activities at the beginning of the last century, with the production of heater tanks, rolled metal, etc.

Among domestic buyers, the products of the following brands are in demand:

  • Buderus.
  • Viessmann.
  • Vaillant.
  • Roda.
  • Bosch.
  • Wolf.
Made in Germany - this mark for the Russian buyer has become a guarantee of high-quality assembly, thoughtful design and almost complete automation of the combustion process. German manufacturers, in addition to classic devices, have launched the production of boilers with energy-saving technologies. Buyers have access to turbocharged and condensing equipment, the efficiency of which is up to 109%.

Boilers from Korea

Companies from Korea that produce wall-mounted gas boilers initially focused exclusively on consumers living in Asian countries. But constant demand for products led to the need to expand production capacity. The products became available to domestic buyers.

Boilers are manufactured by companies with many years of experience in the production of climate control equipment: air conditioners, climate control systems, etc. Some concerns, in addition to boilers and air conditioners, also manufacture other products, including cars. For Asian companies, this trend is more the norm than the exception.

Double-circuit Korean gas wall-mounted heating boilers are offered by several companies:

  • Navien.
  • Master Gas.
  • Daewoo.
  • KoreaStar.
  • HydroSta.
  • Kiturami.
The presented products are distinguished by high-tech filling. All kinds of components have been installed that increase the autonomy of the boiler and improve comfort during operation.

The equipment is characterized by maximum automation, which is the main complaint of Russian buyers. In conditions of unstable power supply, fluctuations in parameters in the main pipeline, the boiler automation often gives a signal to shut down or completely refuses to start the unit.

Despite the shortcomings encountered, Korean boilers continue to be popular due to their convenience and comfort during operation, as well as their reasonable cost.

Chinese boilers

Chinese wall-mounted double-circuit gas heating boilers are in demand, mainly due to their low cost. For the price of the budget version, the consumer is offered a heater with almost “premium” class equipment.

After installation, double-circuit wall-mounted Chinese heating gas boilers usually work flawlessly for the first 2-3 seasons, after which constant breakdowns begin, incessant calls to technicians for adjustments, etc.

The Chinese offer their products in the following modifications:

  • Haier.
  • Olical.
If you want to save money and lack funds, Chinese boilers can be a good alternative to Russian and Korean heat generators.

Boilers from Italy

Single-circuit and double-circuit wall-mounted Italian gas heating boilers, judging by sales statistics, are the most popular water heating equipment. Manufacturers were able to combine European build quality and product compliance with EU standards, while simultaneously maintaining an attractive price for a potential buyer.

Italians offer products of the following brands:

  • Baxi.
  • Beretta.
  • Tiberis.
  • Fondital.
  • Sime.
  • Ferroli.
  • Immergas.
  • Ariston.
Some Italian companies, such as Baxi, Beretta, produce exclusively heating equipment and components for heating systems. Others, such as Ariston, produce household and climate control equipment for the home.

Almost the only drawback of manufactured heating devices, judging by customer reviews, is the sensitivity of the automation to voltage changes in the network. Therefore, it is strictly not recommended to operate the boiler without voltage.

Japanese boilers

Wall-mounted double-circuit Japanese gas heating boilers, first of all, are distinguished by their small dimensions and compactness. Traditionally for the countries of the Asian region, boilers are as automated as possible.

Japan has strict sanitary and environmental regulations, which have had a significant impact on the products and their quality. Another difference between Japanese heat generators is that they are produced exclusively with a closed combustion chamber. Atmospheric heat generators are prohibited in Japan.

The Japanese offer products from only two manufacturers:

  • Rinnai.
  • Kentatsu.
Both concerns manufacture boiler equipment that runs on liquid fuel, oil refinery waste, as well as climate control equipment for the home.

Boilers made in Japan use surgical stainless steel, which ensures compliance with all sanitary and food standards in force in the Russian Federation.

Boilers from the Czech Republic

Czech mounted gas heating boilers with one and two contours, they represent something in between Italian and German products. High build quality, almost identical to what is offered at factories in Germany, but at the same time, the pricing policy is somewhat lower.

Czech wall-mounted gas heating boilers are available with both a classic atmospheric burner and a turbocharged one, closed type.

The Czechs offer their heaters of the following brands:

  • Protherm.
  • Thermona.
Czech manufacturers focus on the introduction of energy-saving technologies, therefore, the efficiency of purchased products is 15-20% greater than in similar units assembled in Russia.

French boilers

French manufacturers of mounted gas boilers offer high-tech equipment with innovative design solutions. On the basis of the enterprises, for the first time in the EU, the production of pulsating combustion boilers was launched.

Copper is often used as the main material of the heat exchanger, which increases the cost of production, but at the same time increases the thermal efficiency of boiler equipment.

All brands of boilers manufactured by French companies number about a dozen different names, but according to the statistical report, only two models are popular among domestic consumers:

  • De Dietrich.
  • Chaffoteaux.
In the EU countries, the French have significantly pushed the Italian companies Baxi and Ariston out of the heating equipment market, and were even able to overtake in popularity some brands produced by the leader in the production of heating equipment, Buderus.

French products are not in such demand among domestic buyers. Russian consumers prefer boilers from German and Italian companies.

What parameters should you use to choose a mounted gas boiler?

Picking up suitable model heating equipment, you can’t do without expert advice on selection. Recently, experienced consultants were asked to answer the most common questions buyers have regarding the following aspects:
  1. Selection of boiler by power.
  2. Number of circuits.
  3. Combustion chamber type.
  4. Heat exchanger configuration.
Each parameter influences the choice of heating equipment and affects the subsequent operation of the unit.

What power to choose a boiler

The choice of boiler power is the main aspect of competent selection of heating equipment. It is with the determination of this parameter that the search for a suitable heater begins. Calculations are performed in several ways:
  • Thermal calculations– carried out by a competent engineer after auditing the premises for possible heat loss. The method is optimally suited for determining the power of boiler equipment for premises with a total area of over 250 m².
  • – you can select a boiler using a special software offered on the site. Calculators carry out the same calculations as a heating engineer, but without the need for financial costs. Some programs, after entering information, automatically select several boiler models suitable for the parameters of the building, heating system and hot water supply.
  • Independent calculations– calculations are made using the formula 1 kW = 10 m². This formula Designed for buildings with an average degree of thermal insulation, located in mid-latitudes. To the result obtained, you will need to add a power reserve in case of severe frosts, within 15%, as well as an additional 20% of productivity for DHW.

How many contours are better?

Some practical selection advice received from company consultants concerns the number of circuits installed in the boiler. There are no ready-made solutions to this issue.

Single-circuit or double-circuit boiler, selected specifically for thermal characteristics and actual needs of the heated building:

  • Single-circuit boilers– suitable for heating residential premises, in the absence of the need for hot water supply. If necessary, the device is modified by connecting a boiler indirect heating. It will not be possible to install a storage tank in conditions of limited living space in an apartment, which must be taken into account when choosing a boiler.
  • Double-circuit heat generators– work for heating and hot water supply. For ease of operation and increased efficiency, wall-mounted double-circuit German gas heating boilers are often equipped with a built-in storage boiler connected to the recirculation system. The same device is found in boiler equipment manufactured in Italy, the Czech Republic and France.
    The advantage of a boiler integrated into the body is the ability to get hot water almost instantly. IN summer time year, the consumption for heating hot water is reduced by approximately 15-20%.
    In Russian-made double-circuit wall-mounted gas boilers, a built-in indirect heating boiler is not provided. Hot water supply is carried out using a flow-through method of heating water.

Which combustion chamber is better?

Boiler equipment is equipped with two types of combustion chamber. The requirements for installation and further operation depend on the configuration:
  • Models with a closed combustion chamber– the burner device is located in a sealed chamber, into which air is forcedly supplied by means of a turbine. Additionally, a fan is installed to remove combustion products.
    Models with forced draft are energy dependent and cannot work without electricity. At the same time, the requirements for installation and operation allow the installation of boilers with a closed combustion chamber in almost any non-residential premises of the building, closing the housing decorative panel, built into furniture, etc.
  • Atmospheric convection boilers with an open combustion chamber– a burner is installed that burns air taken from the boiler room. For the most part, the open combustion chamber design is found in non-volatile mounted boilers. High-quality models are made by Russian manufacturers.

Non-volatile boilers with an open combustion chamber are optimally suited for heating buildings located in areas where there are constant power outages.

Which heat exchanger is better

The choice of a wall-mounted gas boiler for heating and hot water heating is associated with determining the design of the heat exchanger. Manufacturers use two types of water circuits:
  • Two heat exchangers– the internal device has two separate water circuits operating in constant mode. Heating of water and coolant occurs simultaneously. The primary heat exchanger is made of stainless steel or aluminum alloy. The secondary circuit is made of copper.
    In a wall-mounted boiler, taking into account the quality of the water, a separate type heat exchanger is better. Heating circuits are less likely to fail. And if the DHW is completely turned off due to scale build-up, the heating circuit continues to operate. The disadvantage of the design is the greater weight and dimensions associated with the placement of the second heat exchanger.
  • Bithermic heat exchanger- represents the design, according to internal structure similar to a coaxial pipe. Heating of the coolant and DHW is carried out in alternating mode. By technical indicators, the design is inferior to a device with two separate heating circuits. In conditions domestic realities, bithermic boilers fail more often.
Italian and Japanese manufacturers mainly produce products with a bithermic heat exchanger. Domestic units, some models of German and Czech assembly, use separate heating circuits in the device.

Rating of mounted boilers by reliability

The rating of wall-mounted single-circuit and double-circuit gas boilers depends on the type and design of the models offered, operating conditions and functional features:
  • Condensing boilers– the leading positions are occupied by heating equipment from German manufacturers, with some competition from the French Chaffoteaux and Japanese Rinnai. All of these models use high-quality stainless steel and high-tech automation.
  • Double-circuit boilers with natural chimney(open combustion chamber). Optimal solution, this is the purchase of a domestic heat generator with a separate heat exchanger. In conditions of low quality coolant, the boiler will last longer than its Italian counterpart.
  • Dual-circuit and single-circuit boilers closed type– the reliability rating is headed by German heat generators, second place is shared by the French and the Czechs. Italian equipment with a bithermal heat exchanger, without service, will last no more than 5 years. A good solution might be to purchase Japanese equipment.
German, Czech and French heat generators deserve trust. Italian-made boilers impress with their affordability and rich functionality. Domestic products are not distinguished by automation or other “delights”, but are fully adapted to domestic operating conditions, a “workhorse”. Chinese equipment is at the very bottom of the ranking.

Today's heating equipment market will satisfy the needs of any buyer, and offers for gas boilers are no exception. Here you can find many models of both budget units and expensive top-end equipment. In conditions of such saturation, it is difficult to determine which gas boiler is the most reliable, especially if you have not had to buy these devices before.

Statistics on the sale of these units by dealers and analysis of the popularity among consumers of various models of gas heating boilers make it possible to form and publish such a dynamic factor as the rating of this equipment, which will help the inexperienced buyer.

Appearance of modern gas heating boilers various designs

Why should you choose a gas boiler?

Installing heating equipment that consumes gas as fuel has a number of advantages and even advantages over the use of units using other types of fuel:

  • high equipment efficiency;
  • wide range of prices for gas boilers;
  • no need to create fuel reserves;
  • affordability of this natural energy source;
  • high degree of automation of gas heating boilers.

When purchasing such an installation, the buyer naturally expects warmth in the house, safety during operation of the boiler and the durability of this equipment.

Regardless of the model and manufacturer, the heating temperature of the coolant is approximately the same for all gas boilers. In addition, before being released onto the market, units undergo mandatory testing for compliance with safety standards; top-spec models are equipped with self-diagnosis and multi-level protection systems.

After analyzing the service life, the need for repairs and feedback from experts, buyers can select up to ten models of gas boilers, characterized high degree efficiency, safety and ease of use.

What kind of boilers should you use? On the heating equipment market today there are many models of units from various manufacturers, which have different modifications. But from this variety it is necessary to choose devices that have an optimal price/quality ratio, taking into account the required power and functionality.

Which gas boiler is better? I answer from my point of view. My team has been installing heating systems for 10 years. We have been servicing gas boilers in the Krasnogvardeisky district of Adygea for more than eight years.

During this time, I have accumulated statistics on the service of gas boilers. I warn you that I will express my point of view and my personal opinion and judgment; it may not coincide with the opinion and point of view of some manufacturers.

The gas boilers I am considering belong to the budget segment. You won’t find boilers more expensive than 50,000 rubles here.

Gas double-circuit wall-mounted boiler - which is best for heating a private home.

How to make heating in a private house

Any story begins with the fact that a person has a house and needs to somehow heat it. If there is network gas nearby, then everything is fine. All that remains is to build a heating system in the house.

There are two ways:

  • Make a heating system for a private house with your own hands
  • Hire heating installers

I’ll tell you how to make a heating system with your own hands another time. Let's assume that the customer took the second path and agreed with us about the installation of heating. I meet educated customers, they already know where the radiators will be installed and where the heated floor will be.

They usually ask me questions like:

  • Which pipes are better and why?
  • Why so long?
  • Why so expensive?

In this article I will tell you how to choose a gas boiler for a private home. What is the most reliable gas boiler and why I think so.

I will not consider domestic manufacturers of gas boilers, such as Neva, Lemax, Siberia, and others. There are not many of them; in my opinion, they have a very small market share. I see them extremely rarely, so I can’t draw any conclusions.

Gas boilers best manufacturers

European manufacturers: VIESSMANN (Vissmann), VAILLANT (Vailant), BUDERUS (Buderus). German organizations that, taking into account globalization, have production in Turkey, Russia, and China. This trio specializes in thermal equipment. They fill the niche of thermal energy sources. From gas wall-mounted and floor-standing boilers to heat pumps. They also produce solid fuel, diesel and electric boilers.

Italian manufacturers: FONDITAL (Fondital), ARISTON (Ariston), BAXI (Baksi), FERROLI (Ferolli).

Korean manufacturers: NAVIEN (Navien), KITURAMI (Kiturami), KOREASTAR (Koreastar) and MASTER GAS SEOUL (Master gas Seoul).

Chinese manufacturers: OASIS (Oasis) and ROSTERM (Rosterm).

The most reliable gas boiler

In my opinion, the most reliable Viessmann gas boiler. Just as car manufacturers have a small car, a middle class and a business class, boiler manufacturers segment their boilers to maximize market share, and Viessmann has cheap and expensive boiler models.

Wissmann has a popular budget model of a double-circuit gas wall-mounted boiler VITOPEND (Vitopend), with a power of up to 35 kW. They are relatively inexpensive; Viessmann Vitopend 100-W can be purchased for 45 thousand rubles.

The best double-circuit gas boiler - review from an installer

In my opinion, VIESSMANN has a balanced balance of simplicity and at the same time reliability and quality. In complex equipment, maintaining this balance is incredibly difficult. Vaillant, in my understanding, is trying to be as technologically advanced as possible. Although with Wissmann this also sometimes slips through. It seems to me that they have overdone the latest Vitopend line.

German wall-mounted double-circuit gas boilers

In general, Wissmann has some simple units that are as reliable as possible. And Vaillant begins to fall into some kind of complex menu, the mandatory participation of a service specialist.

The average user in Vaillant cannot figure it out. To change simple boiler settings, you need to consult the instructions, or go somewhere, etc. On the one hand, this is a plus, in the sense that it is foolproof, so that the user does not interfere with the operation of the boiler. On the other hand, this makes life difficult for installers.

If we consider more budget options, this is Buderus. I can’t say anything bad about Buderus. In general, the boilers are reliable. Now a plant has opened in Russia, and boilers are now produced here. Cheap parts, good build quality. According to my observations, the boilers are reliable.

Vaillant, in my opinion, makes good boilers, but I don’t like their service policy, and I don’t like the over-engineered boiler control logic. The boilers are economical and technologically advanced, but in our operation this may be a disadvantage. They are capricious to poor water quality, poor quality electricity. Those boilers that were installed 8-10 years ago (I have accumulated my own breakdown statistics) break down more often than Wissmann. Although this is the same class of device. Vaillant has very expensive spare parts, and according to my statistics, he breaks down more often than Buderus.

I installed approximately the same number of boilers from Wissmann and Buderus, but Vailant had much fewer, and 80% of Vailant boilers had some kind of breakdown of varying degrees of complexity. But they were all noticeably expensive. Even replacing the make-up valve cost 2-3 thousand rubles. Buderus never changed the feed valve in the boilers.

So I try not to recommend Vaillant. In my opinion, Vailant’s entire policy is geared towards service, and to become a service you need to buy a set of spare parts. Relevant for Moscow or the northwestern region. People live richer there, they think about service and are willing to pay for it. Guarantee, service can make money from this.

IN Krasnodar region And in Adygea this is a problem, there are few such people, the equipment itself is not very widespread. Load up on spare parts and try to make money on repairs by imposing additional charges on customers. services are not our style.

Italian wall-mounted double-circuit gas boilers

Italians in general are not bad in quality, but, in my opinion, worse than the Germans. In general, I liked Baxi, Baxi’s approach, and service policy. Spare parts are cheaper than the Germans, but also quite expensive. Boilers rarely break down.

Ariston In general, these are good boilers, but there are parts that break quite regularly. This is a three-way valve if the heat exchanger is divided in the boiler. If the water is hard, the valve breaks once a year.

Fondital And Nova Florida good boilers, quite poorly distributed now. They used to be popular because of their low price. The cheapest boilers according to Italians. I haven't installed them for the last five years. Those boilers that I installed before work normally even under poor operating conditions.

Korean wall-mounted double-circuit gas boilers

Boilers Navien very common in our region. A very cheap segment, they entered the market very well. The boilers are not bad, but there is a weak component that ruins everything. This primary heat exchanger. They are weak. If something breaks in Navien, then 90% is the primary heat exchanger.

Now that we have accumulated many years of experience in their operation, it is clear that customers do not like it. Negative word of mouth spreads. I think that because of this, Navien’s sales probably fell. And they could develop. The boiler has a different design logic, made in Korea, unassuming, cheap spare parts, but the primary heat exchanger ruins everything.

If they got rid of the design flaw with the heat exchanger, I think they would greatly capture the market. I myself would put them on with great pleasure. There is no point in buying a boiler that will break down in a year or two on hard water. The heat exchanger for this boiler costs from 6 thousand rubles + work to replace it.

I installed few Naviens, but maintained a lot. I have not seen a boiler that worked for more than three years without breaking the heat exchanger. I came across old boilers with a copper heat exchanger that worked trouble-free for 6-8 years.

Kiturami. I can't say anything bad. They are not widespread in our country, inexpensive spare parts.

Deo good boilers, there was a period when these boilers often broke down, but then the design was improved, and in general, the boilers that I came across and installed myself performed well. Good price, performed well under poor operating conditions. Better than Navien. No worse than the Italians.

Chinese wall-mounted double-circuit gas boilers

Chinese gas boilers break down quite often. But Chinese boiler manufacturers are gradually taking over the market and are constantly improving quality. My prediction: within 5 years they will begin to actively invade the market, because the quality will improve, the price is low + development has begun in automation, controlling the boiler from the phone. Sensor technology, remote access, all this will be integrated into boilers.

Now they are like this electric kettles there is little functionality spaceship they remind me. Gas technology in this sense, a little conservative. Of course, some models of gas boilers have access via the Internet; some settings can be made from a smartphone. But all this is not the same. I think that in the near future the Chinese will make a breakthrough in gas technology.

Poor operating conditions of gas boilers

Few people know, and even more so pay attention to the operating conditions of gas boilers.

Boilers break down quickly due to two reasons:

  • Chemically and mechanically contaminated water. Impurities of sand, scale, a lot of iron, increased hardness.
  • Lack of grounding, voltage surges.

Due to water quality, heat exchangers and valves fail. Remember when I told you about Ariston and Navien?

The gas boiler must be serviced periodically.

Double-circuit gas boiler for heating a private house

Double-circuit boilers are good for small heating systems with an area of up to 100 square meters. With one bathroom and preferably adjacent to the kitchen. And the boiler was nearby. For residential heating, double-circuit boilers are an excellent solution.

If there are 4 or more people living in a house, there are two bathrooms, if there is a large distance between the boiler and consumers, then the double-circuit boiler begins to work at the limit of its capabilities, which leads to its breakdown.

I would not recommend installing double-circuit gas boilers with a power of less than 20 kW for a simple reason: this boiler power is excessive for heating, and for hot water supply it will not be enough.

Read also:

In order to heat the water in the flow, you need to apply more power. This is not clear to many customers and installers. Therefore, I would not recommend installing household lines below 24 kW at all. With a power of 20 kW, such a boiler serves 1 hot water point.

Calculation of the power required to prepare hot water

Cold water entering the boiler has a temperature of 12°C.

The boiler heats the water, and at the boiler outlet the hot water temperature will be 50°C. I set the number to 50 degrees, you can set your hot water temperature. In wall double-circuit boilers it is usually adjustable from 30 to 60 degrees.

The difference between the temperature of the water entering the boiler and leaving the boiler is called Delta. In my example, 50-12=38 degrees.

I don’t want to explain to you for a long time about the heat capacity of water, or give formulas that no one will understand anyway. To simplify everything as much as possible, we can say:

Important!
To heat 1 liter of water by 1 degree Celsius you need 1 W/h.

When you open a hot water tap, approximately 8 liters of water flow out per minute. Therefore, in one hour, 8 l * 60 min = 480 l / min will flow out of this tap.

In my example, Delta was 38°C. 38*480=18,240 W/h or 18.2 kW/h.

This is the power needed to heat water in a stream. That is why most manufacturers make wall-mounted double-circuit gas boilers with a power of 20 kW or more.

Attention!
This power of a gas boiler is needed not for heating, but for preparing hot water!

Additional losses arise for heating the pipes. In the morning everything is cold, the man turned on the water until all the pipes warmed up. This requires power. Heating the boiler itself requires power.

Therefore, if you have 2 bathrooms and 4 people live, there is a high probability that two or even three people will turn on the hot water at the same time. The boiler will not have time to heat the water. There will be a long delay in hot water.

A wall-mounted boiler with a power of 24 kW provides 1-2 hot water points. It is very difficult to heat hot water in a duct. This is exactly what installers and customers do not know. What Boiler power is needed to prepare hot water, not for heating.

Very often I come across situations: 4 or more people live in a house, there is a huge half-ton bathtub, two bathrooms, one of them on the 2nd floor. In the basement, installers installed a double-circuit gas boiler. The owner of the house complains that he has to wait a long time for hot water, and the boiler often breaks down.

This is a matter of equipment selection and system design. This is where mistakes are made very often.

I explain to people this way: if more than 4 people live in a house, the distance between consumers is more than 5-7 meters, bathrooms are on different floors, and you already have a double-circuit gas boiler installed, then you need to recirculate, install an indirect heating boiler.

Which gas boiler to choose for heating your home

Now I recommend the Wissmann Vitopend wall-mounted gas boiler.

There was a period when I staged Wissmann. I explained to people about quality and reliability. Then the price of Wissmann rose, people were looking for cheaper options. At that time, I installed Baxi and Ariston boilers, Fonditals.

Then Fonditals went up in price, Wissmann fell in price. The Wissmanns have gone again. I usually dissuade people from Koreans, but if they insist, put in a Korean, there’s no money - I’ll put in. And then I prefer to put Deo. They are better than Navien.

I installed Aristons at one time, but they had a bad service policy. Perhaps it is still preserved. I can’t say that the Aristons are bad boilers, but the Equator’s non-customer-oriented service spoiled everything. For this reason I stopped using Ariston.

Price is critical. Market conditions matter. People had more money, they put something more reliable, when there was less money, there was a crisis, people began to strictly save on everything. They choose what is cheaper. This is the paradox of the market. A person builds a house for at least 20 years, but at the same time does not think in terms of 20 years. The choice is made based on price.

This is a choice not only of boilers, but also of radiators, pipelines, fittings. If there is a crisis, then they put on frankly cheap bullshit. Forgetting that replacing pipes in the walls will be very difficult and expensive. Even if the crisis is already over and there is money.

Wall-mounted boiler - spare parts for gas boilers

What people don’t pay attention to when choosing and purchasing a gas boiler is the cost and delivery time of spare parts.

You need to heat your home. I don’t know how you found people who will build your heating system. Maybe they were recommended to you by a relative, acquaintance or neighbor to whom they did something. Perhaps you don’t know anything about them, and you saw their ad in the newspaper or on the Internet. It doesn't matter.

You agreed with them that they will build your heating system, and most likely they will also purchase all the materials. It's no secret that many installers have discounts, and they earn a little money by supplying materials, and you save a little.

Now the most important thing: most likely, you will ask them the same questions that customers most often ask me:

  • Can you tell me a good gas boiler for a private home?
  • Which pipes are better and why?
  • Can you recommend some good heating radiators?
  • How long will delivery and installation take?
  • Why so long?
  • Why so expensive?

What materials do you think installers recommend in 90% of cases?

Most installers recommend those materials which they give the most discount on!

For example, some store gave the installer a 15% discount on Ferroli boilers. The heating installer will recommend this boiler to you, and may share a discount with you.

An Italian boiler at a discount, such a joy :) Winter will come, or maybe it will happen after 5 winters and the boiler will break. It's freezing outside and the heating isn't working. You call an installer or find someone who can repair your boiler urgently.

This person comes, opens the boiler and tells you: the heat exchanger has leaked, or the control board has burned out (or there may be 100,500 other reasons), in short, this spare part needs to be changed.

He finds out, and it turns out that the heat exchanger for the Ferroli boiler will take three weeks and costs 29 thousand rubles. A new Ferroli gas boiler costs 35,000 rubles.

This real situations from my practice. Imagine: it’s winter and frost outside (the New Year holidays are even worse), the boiler is broken and now there is no money for a new boiler.

What to do in this situation? Replace the boiler with a similar boiler? Or change the manufacturer of the gas boiler, but then you will have to redo the project for gas. Wait for a spare part and heat the house with electricity, or what have you?

When I advise Wissmann, I know for sure that any spare part for this boiler can be obtained within 1-2 days. Or replace it with something and make the boiler work quickly.

Choose materials for construction wisely, learn the equipment or hire responsible and competent contractors like us.
