Connecting the roof to the chimney pipe: features of the device for connecting the roof to the chimney pipe with video instructions. How to make a ventilation and chimney passage through the roof Cutting a chimney

Today we will try to figure out how to correctly perform one of the most complex junctions - the passage of process pipelines for the chimney and ventilation through the roof. It is not for nothing that many methods have been tried for this, the best of which we will share with you.

Rafter systems and chimney configurations

The passage of the chimney through the roof can be carried out at almost any slope inclination, with the exception of pyramidal and folded roofs with an angle of more than 70°. Limitations are imposed, for the most part, by the common shapes and sizes of special fittings for insulation - the chimney roof trim.

The pipe outlet to the roof must be located on a flat slope, at a distance of at least 1 meter from the ribs and valleys. Firstly, this is the only way to properly install the apron and lining, and secondly, no major interventions in the rafter system will be required.

If ventilation ducts can be routed through the roof with a minimal layer of lining, or even without it at all, then chimneys need additional thermal insulation from the roof pie. We will touch on this issue later, but for now we need to make a choice between a round and rectangular section of the well. A well made of brick can be installed quickly and efficiently through the roof; it has the most suitable geometry. Both ventilation pipes and a chimney can be grouped in one well.

A round passage is also possible, but the chimney in this case will require a casing pipe with a diameter of 350-400 mm larger than the chimney. Difficulties arise in securing it in the roof pie; moreover, not every roof cut has a wide enough cuff.

Placement: what you need to know

It is optimal if you are constructing a rafter system with wells and pipelines already installed, however, the sequence of work may be forced to change.

If the channels are already installed, all that remains is to correctly assemble the frame system. The rafters closest to the pipelines should be 50-70 mm away from the ventilation ducts; they should be 200-250 mm away from the chimneys. During the heating season, thermal radiation from the chimney is high enough to cause uneven shrinkage of wood and its warping. Change the installation pitch of the rafters and do not be afraid to place pairs of trusses closer to the design distance.

It is better to place the chimney 15-20 cm from the top ridge: this way the protrusion of the chimney above the roof will be minimal and there will be no difficulties with sealing the upper part of the cut. Decide for yourself how to implement this: build a well as close to the ridge as possible or make the roof slopes unequal and bring them directly above the chimney.

Unloading the roof

If you have to violate important elements rafter system, which can happen if the installation pitch of the rafters is less than the thickness of the well, it is necessary to unload the roof. At 40-50 cm from the upper and lower boundaries of the passage, you need to place horizontal beams 5-6 spans long under the rafters. They are supported by vertical posts so that each of them is located strictly above one of the attic floor beams.

Using a plumb line, the attachment points are marked vertical racks, taking part of the load from the rafters. Each of the broken rafters must be supported in two places - above and below the cut area. If there is a brick well, it is better to unload the rafter system onto it, replacing part of the wooden racks with angle steel bevels.

Even if the opening fits between the rafters, they should be pulled together horizontal jumpers the same width, forming a convenient pocket for inserting a thermal insulation belt. Sometimes, for reasons of saving material, it makes sense to install vertical jumpers at the same distance from the pipe or well.

Cutting an opening in the roof

If the construction of the rafter system and the remaining stages of installation are carried out with the well or pipes laid out, the opening is formed as the roof is assembled, which in most cases does not cause difficulties. If you need to cut an opening in an already finished roof, you should follow a certain procedure:

  1. The roof is unloaded and all the necessary lintels are installed.
  2. The jumpers that form a pocket for thermal insulation are installed at a distance from the ventilation pipes equal to the thickness of the roof insulation.
  3. The walls of the box for unlined chimney pipes are installed with an indentation of 200-250 mm. For brick wells and insulated sandwich pipes, the lining is done in the same way as ventilation pipes.
  4. Using a plumb line, the profile of the through opening is transferred to the sheathing in the shape of a pipe or well.
  5. If the roof covering is not resistant to high temperatures, it is cut out exactly along the perimeter of the pocket.
  6. Almost any coating cuts well electric jigsaw or with a reciprocating saw, if you first screw the cut out fragments of the sheathing to it.
  7. The distance from the walls of the pocket allows you to cut the coating from the inside, but if the cutting is done around the perimeter, you can transfer the markings to the street using through holes at key points.

As a result, the roof is ready for installation of a pipe or further protection from moisture and heat leaks. The specific method of arranging a passage channel depends on its type.

Ventilation ducts, cuttings and cuffs for them

Ventilation passages for a cold attic space may not need to be insulated at all; it is enough to make a neat hole in the insulation, sheathing and roofing. But if it goes through the pipes warm air from the house or attic, an imbalance in temperature can lead to the formation of condensation. For this reason, a small belt made of moisture-resistant material such as PPS or polyurethane foam is required around the pipe. The belt is cut into two equal parts and placed in a pocket on both sides of the pipe and secured with polyurethane foam. She also needs to seal the seams and cracks, and then sew up the pocket with plywood, cutting it out in a similar way and placing it perpendicular to the insulation.

On the front side of the roof, a roof groove is installed for the appropriate pipe diameter and slope angle. Most are installed over the roof, but some may require simple trimming and sealing.

Chimney lining - do it safely

After installing the chimney pipes, the gap in the opening is lined from below with a fine steel mesh. If the pipe is round, then a galvanized steel strip is attached at four points of the opening, forming a casing sleeve. You can avoid this step by filling the entire pocket with thermal insulation, but this will take up more material: the insulator must be packed tightly. For the chimney lining, it is recommended to use foam glass or stone wool 120 kg/m3.

The advantage of the casing sleeve is a smooth and neat oval hole in the roof, convenient for laying insulation and tightly covered with cutting. For round chimneys, galvanized steel trims are used.

Rectangular wells should be improved from the outside using prefabricated aprons. Special cases for chimneys are quite common. different shapes, their main task is to prevent slanting rain from entering the place where the neck adjoins the well.

Heating country house is a difficult and troublesome task.

One of the important steps that will make it possible to maximum efficiency operating the heating system is correct installation there is a chimney on the roof of the house.

Requirements for stove chimneys

There are several standard parameters that must be met chimney:

  • height;
  • internal section;
  • heat transfer;
  • mechanical strength;
  • heat resistance.

The main parameter that affects the traction force is the distance from the roof to the edge of the chimney.

A chimney that extends 2 meters from the roof is not always good.

In a long pipe, the escaping gases are hot and cool rapidly as they pass through the pipe.

And condensation appears on the inner walls of the chimney.

The pipe must have a cross-section corresponding to the size of the firebox.

How large sizes has a firebox, the stronger the fire burns in it.

Accordingly, the amount of smoke in it is greater.

In order for smoke to escape freely, a chimney with a large cross-section is required.

If its size is insufficient, smoke will begin to penetrate into the room.

Which is very dangerous!

If the cross-section of the pipe is larger than required, then the traction force will decrease.

After all, the smoke, rising through such a chimney, will cool down before it even comes out.

Output through the roof

Experts agree that it is best to vent the chimney directly through the ridge.

In this case, the junction to the pipe roofing easiest to arrange.

Also, with this option, snow pockets do not form, which means the likelihood of leaks will be minimized.

However, there is one very big drawback: where the chimney will pass, it is necessary to break the beam and install additional supports.

Or the design of the roof truss system should not have a ridge load-bearing beam at all.

Another thing to take into account when installing a chimney is that round products are produced by a huge number of enterprises.

But the components with which you can make a passage through the roof round pipes, No.

They are simply not released.

It is for this reason that most chimneys have a square or rectangular cross-section.

Another good location for pipes on the roof is to place it on a slope near the ridge.

With this placement, the appearance of snow bags is also unlikely.

And from a technical point of view, it is much easier to arrange such an exit.

The worst place to install it is the valley.

That is, the internal angle that is formed by the junction of two slopes.

It is almost impossible to achieve a high-quality connection of the roof to the chimney in such a place.

And the flow of water will create additional stress on the pipe.

Roof Exit Technology

Several factors influence which type of roof trim will be used:

  • the material from which the chimney is made;
  • type of roof and roof covering;
  • roof slope angle;
  • chimney location.

Roof trim is designed to protect the roof from overheating and leaks.

It is these requirements that determine the choice of material from which the cutting is made.

For metal pipes, the roof groove is a metal cone, which is rigidly fixed at a certain angle to a metal apron.

If the roof of the house is made of ordinary asbestos-cement slate, then a lead apron is used.

Due to the fact that lead is a plastic material, it takes on the same shape as slate.

The cutting angle depends on the angle of the roof.

The chimney is inserted into the cone and sealed using a sealing collar.

If roofing material metal, and the pipe is round, then not only metal cutting can be used.

Nowadays, penetrations made of polymer on a metal frame are often used.

Such penetrations consist of a sheet of aluminum and steel and a cap made of rubber or silicone.

A hole is cut in the cap the right size, and the sheet bends under the roofing.

Traditional brick or prefabricated ceramic sandwich chimneys are brought to the roof using other devices.

The brick pipe has an expressive appearance and does not require additional finishing.

They are sealed using a metal apron, a heat-insulating box and an abutment strip.

Tightness is achieved by gluing the elements with special films and using sealants.

Roof cutting. Round chimneys

As mentioned above, penetrations with a polymer cap are used for cutting.

To protect wooden structures in the passage area from overheating, install a thermal insulating box made of any non-combustible material.

The space between the pipe and the walls of the box is filled with any non-flammable heat insulator.

Usually it is basalt or stone wool.

We take it to the roof and install the cutting

We purchase a pipe made of thin metal.

The dimensions of the nozzle are at least 25 cm from the pipe to any structure that can ignite.

A hole is cut in the ceiling along the diameter of the pipe to the entire depth of the “pie”.

Then the pipe is inserted.

The chimney is vented outside through a hole in the pipe.

Place insulation between the pipe and the walls of the box.

The passage from below and from above is closed with lids.

In the place where the chimney will pass through the roof, a rectangular hole is cut into which the lower cutting apron is installed.

The pipe is tightened with clamps and secured to the roof elements using brackets.

The chimney is vented outside to the required height.

At the joints, clamps are installed to secure the pipe.

The joints are sealed with sealant to achieve maximum stability.

After the chimney has been brought outside and installed, it is necessary to secure the lower apron.

A roof trim is placed on the pipe.

There are different cuts for each type of roof.

Roof square trim

To make the cut square pipes made of brick, use several special elements: ties, metal aprons, and wall profiles.

The joints are sealed using sealant and self-adhesive film.

A brick chimney cannot be built without a foundation, so its stability is much higher than a round metal one.

The cutting of such pipes is carried out after the sheathing and waterproofing are installed.

An abutment strip is applied to the chimney walls and a contour is drawn along the protruding edge.

A groove is cut along this contour using a surface grinder with a diamond disc.

The junction strip is applied to the lower edge of the pipe and the dimensions are marked on it.

Now, on both sides, you should cut out the vertical part of the plank using metal scissors.

Then the strip should be attached to the chimney and its edge should be hammered into the groove.

The plank itself is attached to the sheathing with self-tapping screws.

Do the same with the side and top bars.

All joints between the pipe and the strip are sealed.

The tie is installed so that water that accidentally gets on it does not fall on the sheathing.

Now the roofing covering is laid and the bottom, top and side ties are put on top of the chimney.

If the skate is nearby, then the top tie is placed under the skate.

Repair

If the pipe has just begun to collapse (this happens with brick products), then it is enough to coat all the seams that have spilled out with mortar.

If the brick itself crumbles, then you will have to dismantle the chimney and put it back together again.

It's good if several outer bricks have collapsed.

But everything is fine under the roof.

If something happened to metal pipe, then in many cases it is easier to replace it than to repair it.

Joint insulation

A special sealant is used to insulate the joints.

And there is one subtlety here: if you don’t want to rush around the roof during the first rains and re-insulate everything, don’t skimp on sealant.

It's not that expensive.

Step-by-step instructions for carrying out the work of laying chimney pipes through floor slabs and roof structures - knowledge that will be useful to any man who decides to do the work with his own hands. The work is not easy and requires care and responsibility, because the safety of your home and its protection from fires depends on the quality.

General rules and location selection

How to route a furnace pipe through wooden ceiling- this must be done so that there are no troubles, as in the photo. Main task preparatory stage– determining the location of the stove installation and the installation of the chimney to the street. Depending on the materials of the floor slabs and chimney pipes, work will need to be done taking into account several sizes:

Schemes for exhausting the chimney through the ceiling and roof

1st floor

The passage of the chimney through the 1st floor ceiling is equipped with a metal box filled with a layer of thermal insulation. To do this, you can use expanded clay filling and filling cavities with mineral wool. For non-residential premises The use of asbestos boards is allowed.

Installation diagram of a chimney through the ceiling with access to the roof (one-story house)

2 or more floors

When passing through slabs of the 2nd and subsequent floors, a situation may arise when the chimney cannot be installed vertically. Builders could move partitions or install a beam in the floor structure.

Therefore, in order not to take risks, when installing chimneys in multi-storey building better use house system ventilation. If you make a horizontal indentation, possible condensation will collect in this place and a thick layer of soot will be deposited on the walls. And it will be difficult to clean the chimney through turns.

Exiting the chimney through the ceiling

The choice of design and materials depends on the type of chimney. Let us analyze the rules for organizing work for the main materials of pipelines in detail.

Round metal

The whole process is divided into several stages:

Important! When installing a steel chimney pipe, be sure to take into account the general direction of the joints. It is customary to lead them inside the building “through the smoke.” Top tube put on the bottom one, so the smoke will not be able to escape even if the chimney is clogged.

Brick chimney

Here everything is much more complicated:

Scheme of the outlet of a brick chimney through the ceiling and roof of the house

Roof passage

The passage of the chimney through the roof is carried out by analogy with floor slabs. The only addition is to provide a reliable layer of waterproofing to prevent water leakage at the chimney outlet.

Brick pipe passage through the roof

The bricks for the stove on the roof are ceramic, red, high quality and brands. Here it is influenced not only by the high temperature of the gases, but also by the aggressive conditions of outside temperature, wind and precipitation.

After crossing the floor slab, lay the pipe to the exit point through the roof structure:

  • mark and carefully cut out the cavity of the chimney passage, make a size with a margin for the insulation layer;
  • We equip the passage with a metal box with a cavity for the passage of the pipe. The upper cut should be made taking into account the angle of inclination of the roof, and should be set slightly recessed inward;
  • after the chimney exits, we fill the entire space with a layer of thermal insulation, and seal all the slightest voids with sealant;
  • We install a layer of waterproofing under the surface of the roof structure. Then we put a steel apron or rubber coupling on top. Carefully seal the edges with sealant.

The main roof covering material is laid on top, and the pipe is forced to the required size. An “otter” is laid out at the top and a protective canopy is installed. It is not difficult to remove the chimney through the roof if you have good tool and skills in performing brick and metalwork.

Passage of a round pipe through the roof

The passage of a chimney through the roof, if the chimney is made of steel, ceramic or asbestos pipes, is carried out according to the same scheme as with a brick chimney (instructions above).

The only difference is that several options for sealing rings have been developed for waterproofing the joint. They make the work much easier; there is no need to lay an additional layer of thermal insulation when using a pass-through coupling.

If it is necessary to install a high pipe, it is secured with steel braces to special anchors embedded in the roof structure.

Stages of work in the photo:

Cutting a chimney on the roof

The cutting of the chimney on the roof is carried out taking into account several dimensions:

  • the minimum distance from the roof surface to the rafters is 250-300 mm;
  • if roofing felt or roofing felt is used as a surface covering, the size up to the chimney pipe is from 300 mm;
  • if metal or concrete parts are used as rafters, this distance is reduced to 200 mm.

Difficulties arise when pipes pass through layers of roof protection (steam, waterproofing, wooden sheathing of the structure and layers of insulation). We carry out the work very carefully, trying not to disturb all layers of insulation and structure.

To install the glass, we perform additional lathing, connecting 2 adjacent rafters with 2 jumpers according to the size of the sleeve.

We carefully pull up all the old layers and tuck them inward, fixing the edges with a stapler or nails with heads. We fill all gaps with a layer of thermal insulation and sealant.

Waterproofing surfaces is carried out in several stages:

  • on the roof we lay a groove over the entire surface of the pipe for drainage and removal of possible leaks;
  • we fix and fill all the gaps and install the outer waterproofing apron. It can be made of steel or rubber. We place its edges under the roof covering and fix it on top of the internal apron of the main structure and seal all the joints;
  • Now, when water passes through small cracks, it will enter the drainage groove or be removed into the covering of the roof apron.

After laying the roof covering layer, we install the outer apron and seal it tightly to the surface of the chimney and roof.

Final works

Cutting a chimney pipe on the ceiling or roof with your own hands is finished. All that remains is to dry the oven. But before that, we check the draft in the pipe. To do this, we bring the torch to the open door of the firebox; if the flame draws inward, the draft is normal. If there is insufficient ventilation, you will need to remove construction debris from the pipes and only then proceed to the next stage of the final.

After the surfaces have cooled, we dry the stove a second time and check all the joints and the chimney itself for leaks and that there are no leaks of gases into the room. We eliminate possible malfunctions and only after the final check can we begin to operate the furnaces.

Only by qualitatively completing the main stages of work and carefully checking the finished chimney, you will be able to protect your home from fires and inhale the fragrant smell of burning wood, not carbon monoxide falling from the cracks of the chimney.

The chimney on the roof is a potential source of ignition for flammable elements of the roof structure, therefore, when arranging the passage unit chimney through the roof special attention is focused on ensuring fire safety. In addition, it is important to ensure the tightness of the junctions.

The basis of safety is the correct choice of materials

Installation of a chimney through the roof can be carried out using various technologies using ready-made structures or special elements. The choice of technology is primarily dictated:

  • roof type (flat or pitched);
  • features of the roofing covering;
  • chimney shape;
  • the presence and type of chimney lining.

Such structural elements and materials, such as a passage, a chimney cover, insulation, sealant, junction strips, etc. must match the type of chimney being installed.

A correctly installed roof passage assembly must be fireproof and airtight. Moisture trapped inside the roofing pie provokes rotting of the wooden elements of supporting structures, the development of harmful fungal mold, and reduces thermal insulation properties cotton insulation.

Elements of the passage device, parts for sealing and consumables, suitable for one type of chimney, cannot be used to install another type of chimney.

When purchasing components and materials for installing a chimney pipe on the roof, you must familiarize yourself with the quality certificates for each type of product purchased. It is recommended to contact specialized stores.

Node of passage of a chimney through a flat roof

When installing a chimney on flat roof, it is important to remember that its height above the roof surface should be 500 mm according to SNiP standards. Through concrete slab a round pipe, a rectangular chimney duct, or a brick chimney directly can be installed in the ceiling. The round pipe passage unit will be considered separately, and for other cases two basic installation principles are used.

To bring a rectangular chimney duct to the roof, it is necessary to make a corresponding hole at the installation site. Removed in advance at the selected area roofing pie– finishing soft covering and underlying layers. The rolled coating should extend 150 mm around the perimeter into the prepared cell. The covering is cut and bent - subsequently these free edges will be attached to the vertical walls of the penetration. A rectangular hole of the required size is made in the concrete. Formwork is installed along its edge and a vertical rectangular side with a height of 150 mm above the roofing carpet is poured around the perimeter.

After the concrete gains strength, the formwork is removed, and external parties the side is attached pre-bent roll covering. To prevent the roofing material from peeling off from the side walls, a metal strip is mounted along its edge using dowels. After installing the chimney duct, it is important to waterproof the joint between the duct and the concrete side. To do this, at the junction of the end of the side with the walls of the chimney, an ebb with a drip, made of roofing sheet, is mounted.

A brick chimney on the roof is easier to install. In this case, there is no need to pour a special side: the brick structure passes through the prepared hole in the concrete floor, and the soft roof flaps are mounted directly to it, after which a galvanized apron is installed on top.

At the required height, a horizontal groove with a depth of 15 mm is made along the perimeter of the chimney. It should be done in the brick, and not in the installation seam. The upper edge of the metal apron, bent inward, is inserted into the groove. Then the groove must be filled with construction sealant.

Features of arranging a passage through a pitched roof

How to fix a chimney on the roof? On the chimney with inside roof, it is necessary to mount a flange that is rigid enough to absorb the loads from the sheathing - the chimney outlet forces the dismantling of part of the purlins, and without installing the flange, the structure will remain in a suspended state.

The flange is usually a steel sheet with stiffeners welded to it. The sheet thickness should be at least 2-3 mm. A non-flammable heat insulator – basalt cardboard – should be placed on the flange. This will prevent heat transfer from the chimney to the sheathing. If the chimney structure is not reliable enough to take on part of the load on the roof, it is installed around the perimeter of the hole. truss structure or additional racks so that the load is transferred to the attic floor.

Around the pipe, all layers of the roof must be cut into a gap that complies with the standards specified in SNiP (depending on the type of pipe and the degree of its heating). The resulting gap must be filled with a non-flammable heat insulator - basalt or glass wool, basalt cardboard.

The principle of sealing the junction of the roofing material to the chimney pipe depends on factors such as:

  • pipe section shape;
  • material of manufacture and coating of the chimney;
  • location of the pipe outlet on the roof.

To ensure that the chimney exiting through the pitched roof is not damaged when snow melts, it is recommended to install snow guards higher up the slope. If the width of the chimney (across the slope) is over 800 mm, above it on the slope a special structure should be installed to divert the water flow.

Output through the roof of a pipe with a circular cross-section

Waterproof the junction of the roof to the round pipe without using special roof penetrations very difficult. The construction market offers a wide selection of pipe assemblies, differing in diameter and material of manufacture.

A universal option is an aluminum flange equipped with a silicone or rubber corrugation. These elements are available in several standard sizes, so you can choose a penetration for a chimney pipe of any popular diameter. Work surface The flange is covered with a material similar to the corrugation material and is equipped with grooves for filling with sealant. The top of the corrugation cone is cut to the required diameter, after which the penetration must be pulled onto the chimney. The flange must be coated with sealant and attached to the roof with self-tapping screws, which are included in the kit. If the roof covering is not made of metal, the flange is attached with dowels or long screws directly to the sheathing.

For roofs with different slopes, penetrations are offered in which the corrugation is located under different angles to the flange. You can purchase a detachable design, which is used if it is not possible to stretch the corrugation onto the pipe due to the presence of protruding parts or the large height of the installed chimney. This penetration is equipped with clamps, thanks to which the corrugation is tightly pressed around the pipe.

Fastening the chimney to the roof can be done using penetrations in which a hinged segment is used instead of corrugation. This is a universal option for roofs with any slope angle: the surfaces of the connecting elements are spherical in shape and can be fixed relative to each other at any angle.

Manufacturers of roofing materials often offer ready-made chimney penetrations with a flange pre-formed to match the appropriate roofing covering. This penetration is attached to the roof sheathing with the necessary overlap. To achieve matching diameters, the apron cone is cut off. Penetrations from roofing manufacturers have several standard angles of inclination. To seal the joint, a second conical apron is installed, overlapping with the first.

To compensate for thermal expansion, such joints are made without fasteners. This allows the pipe to “breathe” and not experience additional destructive loads from the roof structure.

Output of rectangular chimney pipes

Cutting a chimney on the roof in in this case rarely performed using ready-made penetrations - there are few units for sale for pipes with a rectangular cross-section. At the same time, they issue special tapes and strips with which you can perform high-quality waterproofing. Roofing specialists during installation rectangular chimneys Usually a two-layer apron is made from sheet metal roofing - this design goes well with almost any type of roofing.

The apron consists of a front and a back part, as well as two side parts. The main one is the internal apron - its lower part is placed under the roofing, and the upper part extends onto the walls of the chimney. The sides of the apron are equipped with sides; a wide sheet of metal with sides is inserted under the shelf of the front part. This sheet (tie) runs under the roofing to the gutter or valley.

If the chimney pipe is made of brick, a flap should be made on the upper edge of the apron, which fits into a specially made horizontal groove, followed by coating with sealant. In other cases, a rubber seal with sealant should be placed under the edge. The apron is attached to the pipe and sheathing with dowels. The top apron is made of metal to match the color of the roof - it is a structure made from the corners of the frame. It performs a decorative function and helps reduce the amount of water falling on the lower apron. The junction of the upper apron to the pipe is coated with sealant.

Principles of the connection device

When considering options for installing a chimney through the roof, you should pay attention to the connection installation technology. To the most simple ways refers to covering the pipe passing through the roof with thin sheets of metal. For this purpose, sheets of lead or aluminum with a special adhesive layer are used. This option is well suited when installing a chimney on a roof with a roof made of metal tiles. The roof surface must be thoroughly degreased. The upper edge of the junction should additionally be pressed against the pipe with a special metal drip strip, securing it with dowels or self-tapping screws. The joint with the pipe is coated with sealant.

To seal the passage of the chimney through the roof made of ondulin, complete strips are used. For surfaces transverse to the slope, an apron is used, for longitudinal surfaces - a valley. The joints should be taped with onduflesh tape.

Before installing a chimney on the roof, you must familiarize yourself with the recommendations of manufacturers of factory chimneys and roofing materials. This will allow installation to be carried out in compliance with technology and ensure the safety and reliability of the structure.

Chimney on the roof: how to install a chimney through the roof, fixing the chimney

Installation of a chimney on the roof. Key points when installing a chimney through the roof. Features of installation of rectangular and round chimneys.

How to make a passage through the roof of a chimney: possibilities and options

As a rule, when installing internal chimneys, the most serious difficulties arise when it is necessary to arrange the passage of the chimney through the roof and ceilings. If in the second case, the passage through the ceilings should mainly ensure the fire safety of the building, then the passage through the roof, in addition to fire safety, must be completely sealed from moisture penetration.

Chimney through the roof

The main problem is moisture

If the passage of the chimney through the roof is not done correctly, then moisture cannot be avoided from getting into the leaky joints of the chimney, which will lead to getting wet load-bearing wooden structures, the formation of dampness, harmful fungal molds and over time can completely destroy the supporting structure of the roof. To avoid this, the chimney exit through the ceiling onto the roof must be done correctly and carefully.

What a chimney is like a passage

When considering this issue, it is worth considering that there are many ways to organize a pipe exit to the roof. Its design is influenced, first of all, by the type of chimney itself, its method exterior finishing.

  • After all, if, for example, a ceramic chimney is being installed and brought to the roof, then this is one option, but if the chimney is a simple brick or sandwich pipe, this is a completely different one.
  • A ceramic chimney can also have several exterior finishing options.
  • If, for example, the part of the chimney located above the roof is lined with brick, then the installation is carried out according to one scheme, but if it is simply plastered, it is according to another.

After all, if in the first option, the external concrete blocks chimney, then in the second version there is a brick, the installation of which begins with an intermediate crown located under load-bearing structure roofs.

Floor material and roofing are an important factor

The roof covering plays an important role in how the chimney passage through the roof is arranged. Most often, you have to work with coverings made of corrugated sheets, metal tiles, and ondulin. Often there is a need to remove the chimney to soft roof.

Pass-through elements: various possibilities

Depending on the floor materials, the exit of the sandwich pipe through the roof of the chimney can be arranged in different ways. Do-it-yourself sandwich pipe installation on a soft roof is carried out as follows:

There are pass-through elements that can be installed in any convenient place.

  • A hole is faked in the roof through which, for example, a modular chimney pipe is discharged. Let's imagine that our roof slab does not have powerful beams to secure the passage.

  • In this case, we use a prefabricated passage made of two parts, which is secured with self-tapping screws from the inside, as shown in the picture.
  • After this, a special rubber seal is glued onto it from the outside using silicone.

Passage with seal

  • Stacked on top non-flammable insulation so as to fill the gap between the collection passage and the chimney pipe. At the same time insulation material should not cover the rubber seal.
  • Next, the roof trim is attached, which comes complete with the prefabricated passage. Fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws.

Roof cutting: types and options

But we are also interested water protection. If we had a modular steel chimney from a sandwich pipe, we would use a special roof cut.

Currently there are many various types roof cuttings according to the method of execution, material and angle of inclination. As a rule, they generally come with a slope of 15-35° or 35-55°, depending on the angle of the roof slope.

Is it possible to apply this method in our case? You can, or you can use self-adhesive tape for the junction.

Tile roofing - a special approach

What if we have a tile roof and a chimney lined with brick? The treatment of the external chimney is carried out with special care. To treat the chimney, corrugated, self-adhesive sheet aluminum or self-adhesive sheet lead is used.

Our reference: sheet aluminum or lead exists in the form of an insulating roll with a self-adhesive one side. The second side is covered with lead or aluminum foil to protect against various mechanical influences and the aggressive influence of weather conditions (snow, rain, hail, etc.).

Corrugated roofing

Corrugated roofing has earned the trust of consumers due to its reliability and attractive appearance. On a corrugated roof metal sandwich the pipe can be routed like this:

  • the installation location is marked on the surface of the corrugated sheet;
  • Using a grinder, cut through the corrugated sheet, stepping back a couple of centimeters inward. You need to cut corrugated sheets very carefully so that notches do not form;
  • Having made cuts in the corners of the holes, bend the corrugated sheet upwards;
  • now we cut through the ceiling, making a similar hole;
  • install a metal box through which the sandwich pipe needs to be routed;
  • Having carried out the sandwich pipe on the roof made of corrugated sheets, put mineral wool into the box or pour expanded clay;
  • put a pipe on a sandwich silicone seal and glue it to the corrugated sheet, forming a sealed chimney pipe outlet assembly.

Ondulin roofing

Making a chimney passage through an ondulin roof is not easy, but you can still do the job yourself. The fact is that the ondulin coating is flammable. Therefore, in order to organize the outlet of the chimney pipe, you need to make a large hole in the ondulin coating.

To prevent the hole in the ondulin coating from becoming a leak site, the roofing parts are installed through passages, that is, the exit is organized through a metal roof groove with an apron. The cutting angle is selected depending on the steepness of the ondulin roof slopes. When installing the cutting, its ends are inserted under the located sheets of ondulin

Metal tiles: we do it according to the rules

Well, what if we have a metal roofing? Most often, the passage of a chimney through a metal tile roof is arranged with a traditional, external cutting installation. However, this method is not entirely reliable and effective.

Now let's look at how to properly install a groove around a chimney lined with brick on a metal tile roof.

  • To seal the metal tile with the chimney pipes above the roof slope, we use the so-called internal apron.
  • The internal apron is installed before laying the metal tiles around the chimney.

Internal apron – definitely strobe

It can be made of galvanized steel with or without coating.

To install the apron yourself, follow this procedure:

  • The steel profile must be attached to the pipe wall and the upper edge of the apron must be marked on it.
  • Then, using a grinding machine, you need to groove the pipe wall along the intended line.
  • At the end of the groove, it is necessary to remove the dust and rinse the groove with water.
  • Installation of the internal apron begins with its lower element. The steel profile must be trimmed in the right places. The element is installed in place and pressed tightly.
  • Make sure that the top of the element matches the groove exactly.
  • Fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws, screwed through the lower part of the inner apron, into wooden elements roofs.

In the same way, trim and install the side and top elements of the apron. At the same time, do not forget to overlap the adjacent parts of the apron with a size of at least 150 mm, in order to avoid water leaks.

Sealing the inner apron

  • The edge of the steel profile inserted into the groove must be sealed using a special sealant.
  • A flat sheet, the so-called tie, is placed under the lower element of the apron, through which the water will flow.

We install the tie with our own hands:

  • The “tie” for water drainage is directed either into the valley or down to the roof eaves.
  • A border is made along the edge of the tie. This is done by simply folding the edge under using pliers and a hammer.

After sheets of roofing material are installed around the pipe, installation is carried out outdoor apronA . It is installed similarly to the internal apron, but its upper edge is not recessed into the groove, but the joint is sealed with a special sealant.

Materials: the right choice is the basis for safety

We looked at several of the many ways to arrange a chimney roof cut, which allows you to bring the pipe through the ceiling to the roof.

Now I would like to draw your attention to what you should never do when you need to install a chimney through the roof.

  • As a rule, modern roof It's like a layer cake. Many of the materials used in this cake are completely unsuitable for proximity to elements subject to heat.
  • When choosing a chimney passage, first of all you should take care of the fire safety of the building and only secondly - of its tightness.
  • You must understand that a chimney on the roof is not just one of the decorative elements of your building, but an operating unit, the safety of your property and your life as a whole may depend on the correct design and arrangement of it.
  • Any materials, be it sealant, chimney cap, insulation and much more, must fully comply with the chimney used.
  • After all, the possibility of some elements of the passage device or sealing of one chimney is completely unsuitable for use with another.

No guarantee - no material

Purchase materials only in specialized stores that have competent sales consultants who can correctly assess the design of your chimney and advise you on the purchase of this or that material or, conversely, protect you from rash actions.

Our advice: when purchasing chimney elements, passages, parts and details of sealing and insulation, require sellers to present quality certificates for each type of product.

If for some reason you are not presented with certificates, do not purchase these products. Don’t take the word about the available certificates, like there are certificates, but the boss is not there right now, and he has all the documents.

When installing a chimney outlet onto the roof, purchase materials from places where there are quality certificates for similar products, even if the price is slightly higher. Such savings can cost you dearly later.

Chimney on the roof: installation and repair

Heating a country house is a difficult and troublesome task.

One of the important steps that will enable the heating system to operate with maximum efficiency is the correct installation of a chimney on the roof of the house.

Requirements for stove chimneys

There are several standard parameters that the chimney must meet:

The main parameter that affects the traction force is the distance from the roof to the edge of the chimney.

A chimney that extends 2 meters out of the roof is not always good.

In a long pipe, the escaping gases are hot and cool rapidly as they pass through the pipe.

And condensation appears on the inner walls of the chimney.

The pipe must have a cross-section corresponding to the size of the firebox.

The larger the firebox, the stronger the fire burns in it.

Accordingly, the amount of smoke in it is greater.

In order for smoke to escape freely, a chimney with a large cross-section is required.

If its size is insufficient, smoke will begin to penetrate into the room.

If the cross-section of the pipe is larger than required, then the traction force will decrease.

After all, the smoke, rising through such a chimney, will cool down before it even comes out.

Output through the roof

Experts agree that it is best to vent the chimney directly through the ridge.

In this case, the connection point to the roofing pipe is easiest to arrange.

But there are no components with which you can pass round pipes through the roof.

  • the material from which the chimney is made;
  • type of roof and roof covering;
  • roof slope angle;

The chimney is inserted into the cone and sealed using a sealing collar.

If the roofing material is metal and the pipe is round, then not only metal cutting can be used.

Nowadays, penetrations made of polymer on a metal frame are often used.

Such penetrations consist of a sheet of aluminum and steel and a cap made of rubber or silicone.

A hole of the required size is cut in the cap, and the sheet is bent to fit the roofing.

How to properly insulate an attic roof here. As well as a house and a garage.

Usually this is basalt or stone wool.

In order to cut square pipes made of brick, several special elements are used: ties, metal aprons, and wall profiles.

If something happens to a metal pipe, then in many cases it is easier to replace it than to repair it.

Joint insulation

A special sealant is used to insulate the joints.

And there is one subtlety here: if you don’t want to rush around the roof during the first rains and re-insulate everything, don’t skimp on sealant.

It's not that expensive.

Buy a branded item made in Germany or Finland - you won’t regret it.

Chimney on the roof: installation, cutting and repair

Installing a chimney is not an easy job. Because you need to take into account a large number of nuances and know the subtleties. It is for this reason that rarely does anyone do it themselves.

Installing a pipe on the roof is an operation that requires a special approach. In this article we will consider questions about how the chimney passage through the roof should be in order to comply with SNiP standards, as well as protect the structure from moisture penetration and the possibility of fire.

Chimney installation rules

If the house has a stove, then a chimney is also needed. Although instead of a stove there may be a special tank running on gas. In any case, the house is heated somehow, and combustion products need to be removed. There are several options for removing the pipe through the roof, related to determining the location. It is planned when a house project is being developed. The location is considered relative to the ridge of the roof - a horizontal edge that is located where two slopes meet. The pipe can be installed:

    directly in the ridge;

    at a distance from the ridge.

The first and second options have their pros and cons. On the one hand, it is easier to install a chimney in a ridge. But this is for someone who deals with this particular issue. But for arranging a rafter system, this is more difficult, because you will have to make a gap in the horizontal beam. On the other hand, when the pipe is in the ridge, this guarantees good traction. And the possibility of leakage under it is reduced to a minimum here. But still, most often the chimney is moved relative to the ridge.

In this case, the following building regulations must be observed:

    If the chimney on the roof is installed at a distance of no more than 1.5 m from the ridge, then the pipe should be 0.5 m higher than it.

    When installed at a distance from 1.5 m to 3 m from the ridge, it is made on the same level with it.

    When the pipe is more than 3 m from the ridge, it can be lower than it, but no more than 10°.

Most best option the location of the pipe relative to the ridge - not far from it. If you make the chimney much lower, the risk of damage from falling snow increases.

To ensure good traction, you must adhere to certain standards for placing the chimney relative to the roof ridge Source rekvartira.ru

There is a place where it is generally not recommended to install a pipe - the valley. This is the internal angle that is formed by two slopes complex roof when connecting. There is always an increased load on it, since precipitation flows there and snow is retained. With such an installation, the possibility of waterproofing damage is very high. This means that there will be leaks.

Protecting the roof from heat coming from the pipe

When organizing a pipe passage through the roof, it is important to insulate the roof from it. After all, the pipe gets very hot, which increases the fire hazard. The roof is protected using a separate box, the beams and rafters of which are located taking into account the requirements of SNiP. Standard for the minimum distance from the chimney to load-bearing beams and rafters range from 130 to 250 mm. Interior The box is filled with some material that does not burn. For example, it could be basalt or stone wool.

The chimney must never touch the roofing directly. Source barmanlive.ru

Further organization of the pipe outlet depends on what shape it is and what it is made of. The shape of the chimney can be made either as a regular square or round, or in the form of a rectangle or oval. And pipes can be brick, metal, asbestos-cement or ceramic. The material from which the roof is made is also taken into account. It can be slate, metal tiles, corrugated sheets, ondulin, roofing felt or bitumen shingles. Each case has its own characteristics.

Installation of a round pipe

Often in construction a circular chimney section is used. To pass a round pipe through the roof and seal it tightly, special flexible adapters are used. They are made from heat-resistant polymer with elastic properties. In appearance, such an adapter looks like a funnel, at the base of which there can be a circle or a square. The base is called an apron, it is made in the form of wide fields. Because the material is elastic, it easily accepts different configuration. Therefore it has a wide range of applications. Such adapters can be used on roofs with any covering and slope angle.

The main thing is to choose an adapter that will match the diameter of the pipe. Although there are universal options for such products. They are made in the form of a stepped pyramid. To adjust their size to the pipe, the excess is simply cut off with scissors. Elastic adapters are attached to the roof using bolts or metal studs. They are installed in holes on the flange, which presses the adapter to the roof. The space between the flange and the roof surface is lubricated with a sealant that can withstand temperature changes.

Features of a sandwich chimney

A type of round pipe is a sandwich chimney. It consists of two pipes of different diameters, between which there is a heat-resistant thermal insulation material. They are made of stainless steel. The sandwich chimney is in great demand because it provides stable draft, does not heat up, is easy to install and looks beautiful in appearance.

The passage through the roof of a sandwich chimney can also be done using an elastic adapter. However, it may not be in harmony with its mirror surface. In this case, a metal adapter is used, the material of which is also stainless steel. It is not flexible, so you must take into account the diameter of the pipe and the angle of the roof slope.

The passage of a sandwich chimney through the roof is shown in the video:

A special feature of organizing the passage of a sandwich chimney is the installation of a PPU - ceiling-passage unit. This device protects all wooden elements through which the chimney passes from high temperatures. It represents metal structure with a certain diameter through which the pipe must be passed. The material of its manufacture is galvanized steel or mineralite. Inner surface The unit is lined with thermal insulation.

Passage through metal tiles

Metal tiles are sheets of steel, copper or aluminum, which are coated with a polymer layer. In appearance they resemble natural tiles, which are folded in even rows. This roofing material is very popular. If a round pipe is to be passed through the metal tile, flexible adapters are used, which we have already described. When using a square or rectangular brick pipe, a different method of installation is used. It is as follows:

    The connecting unit is being manufactured. It consists of two aprons - internal (main) and external (decorative). The material of manufacture is thin aluminum sheet or tin.

    Before the metal tiles are laid, an internal apron is installed on the sheathing. These are 4 strips located on 4 sides of the pipe. They simultaneously extend under the metal tile (no less than 250 mm) and onto the pipe (no less than 150 mm).

    The apron elements are installed in a groove - a groove that is cut along the perimeter of the pipe to a depth of 10 to 15 mm. The groove is cleaned and filled with fire-resistant sealant.

To install the apron, you need to make a special groove in the pipe Source experttrub.ru

    The apron is attached to the pipe using heat-resistant dowels. The joints between the four planks are soldered. On the slats that are located on the sides, sides are made, the purpose of which is to drain water down.

    The lower part of the apron is installed on the so-called tie - a sheet of metal with sides. This ensures water drainage from the chimney to the bottom of the roof. The width of the tie should be greater than that of the pipe by at least 0.5 m on both sides. Its length depends on the distance from the pipe to the edge of the roof.

    After installing the tie and interior apron, the metal tiles are laid.

    An external apron is installed on top. It is usually a corrugated sheet of lead or aluminum. There is a decorative strip in its upper part. It is attached to the pipe using self-tapping screws. The attachment point is slightly higher than parts of the inner apron. Before fixing the decorative strips, the fastening points are coated with sealant. To attach the corrugated sheet, its back side is provided with a self-adhesive coating.

Installing a chimney through corrugated sheeting

Corrugated sheeting is a sheet of metal produced by cold rolling and then profiled. Mainly made of steel, but can be made of copper and aluminum. The sheet has ribs of oval, square, trapezoidal or polygonal shape. A special coating is made on top, which gives it anti-corrosion properties. Corrugated sheeting is often used as a roofing material.

To pass the chimney through the roof, in the case of a square or rectangular pipe, a device in the form of two aprons and a tie is used. The method is the same as for a metal roof. Installing round pipes in corrugated sheeting is not recommended, because it is difficult to cut the correct circular section into it. But if you still make a round chimney, the pipe is insulated using a universal elastic adapter.

Passage through ondulin

Ondulin looks like regular slate, but its material is completely different. This is compressed cellulose, which is treated with bitumen impregnation. He might be different colors, resistant to water, but burns quite well. Therefore, when a passage through the roof is organized, maximum attention is paid to filling it with fire-resistant materials. The hole for the pipe in the ondulin is made large. To insulate the junction of the roof and the chimney, an apron is used, which is placed under the roof. In this case, elastic self-adhesive tape “Onduflesh” is used, made of bitumen with an aluminum insert.

Installation of a chimney in a soft roof

Soft roofing is a flammable material, so it is important here that there is a gap of 13 to 25 mm between the pipe and the covering. The passage of the chimney through the roof is organized depending on its shape - flat or pitched. The material from which the pipe is made also plays a role. If the roof is flat, consisting of a concrete slab and the pipe is not made of brick, the passage is made as follows:

    Around the pipe at a distance of about 15 cm along the perimeter, everything is removed, right down to the concrete.

    The formwork is being installed.

    Concrete is poured so that a side is formed, the height of which is 15 cm.

    The roofing covering is applied to the walls.

    Where the roofing material connects to the side, a metal strip is installed. Fastening is done using dowels.

    An ebb tide is installed on the side.

If the pipe is brick, there is no concrete side. In this case, roofing material is placed on it and a metal apron is installed on top. A groove is made in the wall of the pipe (depth 1.5 cm), into which the edge of the apron is inserted.

When passing a pipe through a soft roof, many nuances must be taken into account Source teplospec.com

The junction is filled with sealant. In case pitched roof waterproofing is carried out as on other coatings, that is, using aprons (for square and rectangular pipes), as well as flexible or metal adapters (for round ones).

Installing a chimney in a finished roof

If the chimney is not installed at the stage of building a house, but already finished roof, the following is performed:

    There is a place for output taking into account the requirements of SNiP. This should be the space between the cross beam and the rafters.

    A box is made of beams, the cross-section of which is equal to the cross-section of the rafters. The box is made such that the width of its sides is 0.5 m greater than the diameter of the pipe.

    A hole is cut in the roof equal to the perimeter of the box. To comply with it, through holes are drilled from the inside in the corners of the box.

    The roofing material is bent outward, a pipe is inserted into the hole and secured.

    The box is sealed with fire-resistant material for thermal insulation.

    The junction of the pipe and the roof is sealed. The flange (adapter) is being installed.
