How to do it yourself

Homemade sofas for the kitchen are an economical option for an apartment, house or cottage. How to choose the right material to create a structure with my own hands? Keep in mind that the kitchen model must be durable and withstand heavy loads. In order to make such a mechanism, it is not necessary to have professional skills and abilities; it is enough to follow a certain plan.

If you want to make the perfect model of a kitchen sofa, consider the following nuances:

  • Furniture shape. The best option in this case is a model with drawers for storing various items needed by the housewife.
  • If you plan to build a corner structure, decide on the direction (left-hand or right-hand).
  • Buy necessary materials, accessories, fabric, soft pillows.
  • Prepare the tools: jigsaw, hacksaw, screwdriver, knife, scissors, tape, ruler, pencil, triangle, meter, level, hammer, sandpaper).
  • It's better to upholster the seats synthetic material. It is more practical, does not lose shape and lasts a long time.

The sofa will be comfortable if it has the exact configuration. The mechanism can be stationary or folding. If you want to make a stationary structure in the form of a corner, carefully study the direction of the corner, make drawings and prepare materials. For upholstery you can use velor, artificial leather, jacquard, microfiber, flock.

At the very beginning of work, decide on the dimensions and design. Dimensions must have standard values and be without miscalculations. For clarity, draw a diagram on which you identify problem areas in the room (sockets, protruding elements, baseboards, moldings, furniture). When deciding on the size of the sofa, take into account the height of family members, the number of people who gather at the table, and weigh design options. The most simple design for construction, it has a base - side parts that are connected by a back or seat.

Mark the drilling points and fastening points on the diagram. The design of any size consists of three parts: short, long and angular. Standard height models - 85 cm, length from 90 to 120 cm, side width - 45 cm, seat height 40 cm. The corner also has standard dimensions of 45x45 cm. Remember that the parameters of the sofa depend on the number of people living in the house and the size of the kitchen.

The first stage is the connection of three parts (sides, back and seats). Prepare in advance bars of the required length, with a cross section of 40x40 mm. Functional and robust construction will help you make spacious drawers that should be placed under the seat. For this you will need boards. Place plywood on the bottom, which should be inserted into the cut grooves. The remaining structural elements must be connected with self-tapping screws, and the holes must be closed with plugs.

The sides are connected using horizontal bars, then the back frame is made from plywood. In the final stage, foam rubber must be attached to it. The seats consist of 2 parallel and 4 perpendicular boards, which are connected with special tenons, and the trim is made out of a plywood sheet. The longitudinal beam located at the rear is connected by piano hinges. The seat cover should extend forward by 30 mm, with the metal corners of the backrest pillar screwed on.

A sofa made from pallets looks beautiful. Many reviews from owners of homemade sofas confirm the simplicity, convenience and original look such a model. The structure is sheathed when all its main parts are combined and the parts are tested for strength. Remember that each element needs to be manufactured separately. The foam rubber should be attached using a stapler to wooden base, align, and stretch the fabric on top.

Materials

They make small sofas for the kitchen from various materials- solid wood, MDF boards, metal and durable plastic. Seats and backrests can be made hard, soft or a combination.

The most durable, reliable and durable, but at the same time the most expensive and requiring special care - a kitchen sofa made of solid wood with a leather seat and back. Its upholstery made of leatherette or eco-leather stretched over the backs and seats will cost much less, but are unlikely to last for several decades without losing its appearance and without restoration.

If fabric upholstery is chosen for a small kitchen sofa, then its quality will determine whether it will become a favorite piece of furniture or a huge disappointment for the whole family.

Traditional classic sofa upholstery made from natural tapestry, jacquard, velor, wool, linen and cotton fabrics are beautiful, but not very practical - they instantly absorb kitchen odors, grease and soot, are unable to withstand spilled liquids and high humidity in the room, are quickly wiped off and are easily torn .

But modern artificial upholstery fabrics are free from all these shortcomings - pleasant soft and hypoallergenic chenille, or flock with a stable Teflon coating, nicknamed “anti-claw”, or microfiber impregnated with special solutions that make it resistant to dirt and the penetration of moisture and unwanted aromas, or variegated colorful and extra durable polyester blend fabric. However, the most right decision for fabric upholstery in the kitchen - use removable covers that are easily washed and replaced without compromising the integrity of the sofa's structure.

It is worth noting that artificial suede and leather are no less good as upholstery materials, which, in addition to all the properties listed above, have the ability to convey on their surface a variety of fashionable textures, textures and color design solutions.

However, when choosing soft sofas for the kitchen, you should pay attention special attention filler for their upholstery. For greater practicality, hypoallergenicity and better retention of a given shape, it is most often made from artificial materials - holofiber or polyurethane foam.

Color solutions kitchen sofa groups are as diverse as the options for their designs and upholstery materials. Surprisingly, even a small white sofa can easily take root in the kitchen. And not only if it is made of wood or metal and simply painted white, but also when it is upholstered with modern smooth, textured or even fluffy trendy materials that are excellent at repelling dirt and moisture and are not at all afraid of soot, greasy splashes, chemicals and abrasive cleaners and temperature changes inherent in all kitchen areas.

However, choosing a sofa for the kitchen requires caution when choosing its color. Since installed even in the most spacious and bright dining area, it will certainly attract attention, and placed in a small kitchenette, it will certainly become its main accent, and therefore should be in maximum harmony with the overall style and other furnishings. And here there is a small design secret- the upholstery of the ideal sofa for a tiny kitchen is best made in pastel colors and natural shades of matte colors (neutral gray, cold beige, warm brown, creamy “coffee with milk”).

For a small kitchen area in black and white, you can choose either black or white sofa, and for a spacious and well-lit room - with bright upholstery in a rich contrasting color (red, green, purple, blue, yellow, etc.), but in this case its saturation will need to be supported by additional accents of the same color (in kitchen accessories, equipment or table textiles).

Classical suitable for the kitchen a round sofa with plain beige upholstery or, on the contrary, with stuffing in pastel colors and with a print of flowers, cheerful polka dots or squares.

In a kitchen in Provence or country style, a compact sofa with openwork forged or carved wood parts will look good.

A kitchen in the modern style will happily accept a simple small sofa with upholstery made of natural or artificial leather in an active color and a carriage screed as decor.

A rectangular, laconic sofa in classic pastel or fashionable variegated colors will happily take root in a minimalist kitchen area.

Kitchenette in Scandinavian or Mediterranean style requires white, gray or unbleached linen woven upholstery for a small sofa.

A kitchen area in an ornate Baroque style will be complemented by a compact sofa with a carriage seat on velor or leather upholstery with natural shades or bright extravagant prints.

The kitchen, decorated in a sophisticated Art Deco style, will be decorated with a small sofa without handrails with a high back and a curved seat, covered with bright luxurious velor.

How to choose

The selection of even a very small sofa group for an apartment should begin with a clear measurement of the kitchen and the dining area itself. Then it is important to think about exactly what size and shape of the new furniture will be optimal for this room, as well as carefully calculate the ergonomics of the model you like and the possibility of unhindered use of all its additional functions.

Usually the smallest kitchen sofas are manufactured in sizes that can fit into the space of even the most small kitchen. But still, when choosing such a sofa, you should definitely consider:

  • reliability and strength of the structure;
  • practicality of upholstery material;
  • structure and shape of the seat, back and side parts;
  • equipment with a sleeping place, shelves, drawers and their capacity;
  • the possibility and ease of transformation of seats, backs, armrests and built-in parts;
  • assembled and disassembled dimensions;
  • the success and ergonomics of using zoning;
  • correspondence of the shape, material and color of the sofa to the kitchen design.

photos

When buying a small transforming sofa for the kitchen, pay attention to whether its folding mechanism is equipped with spring closers, the presence of which often indicates the high class and excellent quality of the chosen model. When choosing a sofa with a roll-out bed, check the reliability of the rollers of the guide profiles and the strength of all fasteners.

For selection lunch group In a small kitchenette, you should take a closer look at modular sofas - their individual elements, which can be combined, moved, separated, pulled out, hidden or swapped at your discretion, allow you to independently change the shape, size and configuration of such models, significantly modernizing and significantly optimizing the usually small space kitchen area.

How to choose for the dining table

A cozy dining area is meaningless without comfortable table and a sofa that matches it in shape and dimensions. By the way, it is quite capable of replacing all the side stools and chairs or being supplemented with them as the number of the company increases and there is free space.

Square or rectangular table goes well with small sofas of almost any shape, but is especially good with straight or corner ones.

Round or oval table A semicircular sofa or one shaped like an angle is more appropriate.

And designer tables irregular shape require the same irregular sofas, which are usually made to order, are often expensive and are the highlight of the kitchen interior.

Care

Regardless of the chosen shape and materials of the frame and upholstery of a small sofa for the kitchen, in any case it requires at least minimal care:

  • You should not place a sofa, especially a soft one, next to the stove, heating batteries and in open access to sunlight - this is necessary and according to the rules fire safety, and for better preservation of non-metallic structural parts;
  • even with moisture-resistant upholstery, you should not constantly douse it with water and pour soup or juice on it - some stains may not come out;
  • internal parts accessible for cleaning should be cleaned regularly using a vacuum cleaner or steam generator;
  • external parts and upholstery can only be cleaned with products specifically designed for this purpose, which in no case contain bleach, for application and removal of which you should use a rag, a foam sponge or a very soft brush;
  • if it is necessary to use a stain remover, then it is better to apply it first to a cloth, and only then to the sofa upholstery;
  • removable covers can be washed easier and better by dry cleaning;
  • sofa upholstery from genuine leather it is possible to preserve it in its original form longer in a room with moderate humidity and by systematically fattening the leather covering;
  • A thorough check, regular cleaning, systematic lubrication of the parts of the folding mechanism of the sofa bed and a load in accordance with the instructions will help keep it in working order throughout its operation.
