How to restore the structure of the top layer of linoleum. How to repair a linoleum floor

Flooring PVC or natural roll coverings they look presentable and are characterized by good resistance to compression and abrasion loads. But if the installation and operating conditions are violated, it is easy to make a hole or a cut in the linoleum, burn it, or even “decorate” it with difficult-to-remove stains. Any defects can be dealt with at home with your own hands.

For the home, buyers most often choose inexpensive household or semi-commercial series of 21-23 and 31 wear resistance classes. Although linoleum is an elastic flooring material, the surface of natural and PVC products is quite resistant to abrasive effects, and some collections can even withstand furniture rollers, sharp heels of women’s shoes and animal claws.

But, unfortunately, buyers do not always listen to manufacturers’ recommendations or do not have the financial means. Therefore, a coating that does not correspond to the load class of the room is chosen. For example, for a hallway or kitchen in a house with small children and pets, they buy economy series 21 classes. Or even worse - due to limited budgets, schools and kindergartens use material of category 21-22 from the household series with the minimum possible protective layer on the floor. And you shouldn’t be surprised that the linoleum tore so quickly, bunched up like an accordion, or lost its luster. For such rather harsh conditions, completely different coatings are designed - from class 31 and above.

Accusing manufacturers of producing low-quality flooring products, buyers forget about another important factor - correct installation. Factories Tarkett, DWL, Juteks, Grabo, Forbo and others strongly recommend that you carefully read the instructions before installing the coating. It states in black and white that:

If mistakes are made and the surface of the linoleum is damaged, then do not despair. With desire and some skill, almost any defect can be corrected.

DIY linoleum repair

One of the characteristics of rolled marmoleum and PVC coating is partial repairability. This means that, for example, a small cut or bulge can be easily repaired - just carefully seal the torn linoleum using special compounds. But the burnt area and other types of holes are more difficult to eliminate. We will tell you about everything in order below.

Difficult to remove stains, traces of rubber, glue, varnish

Tough stains.

Such contaminants are classified as complex, so special equipment is used to remove them. household chemicals. For example, Forbo and Wicanders have a whole series of products for the care, cleaning and protection of natural coatings (marmoleum, cork, parquet). And Dr. Schutz, InterCHIM and Tarkett produce professional cleaning and care chemicals for vinyl flooring materials. Including:

Advice! To clean PVC roll coverings, marmoleum and cork, it is not recommended to use products containing chlorine, abrasive powder cleaners, solvents and petroleum products.

Of course, the above list is far from complete. The assortment is huge, so choosing what you need won’t be difficult. But you shouldn’t listen to the advice of would-be masters and worsen the condition of the coating with sandpaper or abrasive powders. This will not restore a burned or contaminated area. On the contrary, the wear-resistant top layer will be removed, and the area with the defect will be irrevocably damaged.

Minor defects associated with a violation of the integrity of the coating

Cuts, punctures, lacerations

What to do if you accidentally cut or torn linoleum? Everything is very simple - fix it by gluing using PVA or “cold welding”. The latter is a series of adhesive polymer compositions that not only connect, but fuse parts of the fabric, forming a durable, almost invisible seam. Available in three variations:

To glue the parts as accurately as possible, special needle-shaped tips with a standard or C-, T-shaped nozzle are included with the tube with the adhesive composition.

« Cold welding» refers to slightly toxic and flammable building materials, so you need to work with it carefully, preferably using personal protection(glasses, gloves)

Before work, the linoleum elements to be glued must be cleaned of dirt, mastic residues, torn felt or pieces of foam base, and dust. If there are recesses in the base, they must be filled with quick-drying cement and vacuumed. Protect the cut or torn fabric from excess glue protruding onto the surface with a piece of masking tape, insert a needle into the joint or puncture, squeeze out a little adhesive mass and leave to dry. After a few hours (the exact period is indicated in the instructions), you can load the coating as usual.

Formation of waves on the surface

Wave-like swellings on the surface almost always appear due to improper glueless installation. Less often - because high humidity grounds (dampness, etc.). In the first case, you need to remove the furniture from the room, remove the baseboards, heat the linoleum with a hairdryer and carefully smooth it out. It is advisable to load the surface for several days to fix the coating in the desired position.

But dampness and its consequences will have to be dealt with seriously. First you need to eliminate the source of high humidity, dry the base, and, if possible, waterproof it. Only after this can linoleum be laid using adhesive compounds.

Blistering, separation at seams

Locally swollen areas can be eliminated using PVA glue or “cold welding”: we pierce the bubble or make a cross-shaped incision, introduce the composition under the canvas and glue the linoleum to the base.

“Raised” edges of linoleum can be easily repaired using the same adhesives - welding or polyvinyl acetate. But you must strictly follow the instructions.

If the joints are in doorways or in the middle of the room they diverge by more than 4 mm, the edges are frayed, then it is better to use metal or PVC thresholds to connect them. The range of products is wide: with open or hidden fastenings, painted with polymer powder composition or laminated to match the color and texture of linoleum. We believe that choosing the right one will not be difficult.

How to seal punched holes, blackened or peeling areas

In this case, it is carried out local replacement damaged piece. To do this, select a piece of coating of the same color and design as possible. The defective area is removed, the remains of old glue or mastic are removed from the base, and, if necessary, leveling and cleaning from dust and dirt are carried out. Next, apply fresh paint with a brush. adhesive composition onto the base floor, a patch is inserted and carefully smoothed. You can place a weight on the surface for several days.

In conclusion, I would like to note that any repair of linoleum should be carried out immediately upon detection of defects. Otherwise, the damaged area will increase day by day, and the possibilities for repairing it will decrease.

Advice! If you need repairmen, there is a very convenient service for selecting them. • Peeling off corners and edges

No matter how high-quality or modern linoleum is, over time, with sufficiently intense depreciation, it deteriorates: various cracks, tears, swellings, abrasions and other defects appear. But at any time you can repair linoleum with your own hands.

Replacing linoleum consists of such steps as: cutting out a piece of new covering, preparing the base, removing minor damage.

Replacing a damaged section of linoleum

Replacing a damaged section of linoleum is The best way getting rid of defects on the coating.

Scheme for cutting linoleum edges.

Basically, the replacement consists of the following steps:

  1. Cutting out a piece of new covering for replacement.
  2. Preparing the base for laying a new element.
  3. Removing minor surface damage.

So, the first stage is cutting out a piece of new coating for replacement.

  1. In order to correctly cut a piece of new flooring, a piece of new linoleum is laid on top of what is already on the floor. If necessary, the patterns are combined, after which a ruler is applied, and with the help of a knife (it is advisable to use a special knife for floor coverings or a shoe knife), two layers of coating are cut at once. The damaged part of the linoleum is removed from the canvas.
  2. The second stage is preparing the base for laying the new element. The base for installing the patch is thoroughly cleaned to remove any remaining adhesive that was used to install the old layer, as well as debris and dirt.
  3. After the base has been sufficiently cleaned, the surface must be primed and left until completely dry. Glue is applied to the patch and the primed surface, it must be left for 3-6 minutes, after which the patch is put in place, being sure to follow the pattern.
  4. After the patch is placed, it must be pressed well. This can be done using rubber roller. The plate is glued, now you need to put a piece of plywood on it and press it with something heavy, after a few days you can remove everything.
  5. If linoleum wears unevenly, for example, in a corridor in an office, where it loses its properties only in the middle, where people walk, and on the sides it is practically new, you can give it additional aesthetics. To do this, you can cut out a uniform piece and replace it with linoleum of a different color or with a different pattern, but here you need to be very careful when choosing, otherwise you can simply ruin the whole look of the room.
  6. The third stage is the removal of minor damage. Minor defects do not need to be corrected with patches; they can be corrected with regular putty.

Flooring on a concrete screed.

In shops building materials Today you can find putties of any color, so you can easily find the material you need to repair linoleum with your own hands.

In addition, such putty can be made at home. To make it, you need to take thickened turpentine, rosin and a dye that matches the color of your coating (turpentine - 4 parts, rosin - 1 part, dye is added until the mixture reaches the desired color).

All these components are mixed until a homogeneous mass is obtained, after which the damaged areas are covered with it. When everything is dry, the treated surface is cleaned and sanded.

Blistering linoleum: what to do?

Scheme for laying linoleum tiles.

There are damages that cannot be corrected either with patches or by covering them with putty. One of these defects is bloating.

  1. Blistering is the most unpleasant defect from the point of view of the appearance of linoleum, but it can be eliminated quite simply: you need to pierce the swollen area and squeeze out all the air from it.
  2. Then you need to dilute the liquid glue, fill the syringe with it and use it to pour a sufficient amount of glue under the linoleum.
  3. After these operations are completed, plywood is placed on top, as in the case of patches, on which something heavy can be placed; after a few days it can be removed. There are times when the entire coating swells, in which case nothing can be done; you will have to completely re-cover the linoleum.

The most common cause of swelling is improper waterproofing, and often, if it is done incorrectly, the entire linoleum swells, and you have to remove it, redo the waterproofing and re-lay it all over again.

Drying out

Another defect that may arise during the operation of the coating in question and cannot be repaired with patches is drying out.

  1. In this case, you can repair linoleum as follows. If the cracks are small, then you can simply fill them with paraffin. The filling must be done so as to create a protruding seam. After this seam has cooled, you need to take a dull knife (so as not to cut the surface of the linoleum) and clean the filled area. After this, the area is rubbed with a dry cloth.

During operation, any flooring wears out, loses appearance, strength and integrity. This also applies to linoleum. Under influence external factors The material may appear abrasions, dents, tears and holes.

The cause of defects on linoleum may be furniture legs, exposure to sharp objects or shoes (heels). Damage can be repaired without completely replacing the coating. To do this you only need to have necessary tools and materials. And how to repair a hole in linoleum depends on the nature and size of the defect.

You can fix defects alone

To repair the damage you will need the following tools:

  • Pen;
  • Ruler;
  • Rubber roller;
  • Cutter.

The following materials are needed:

  • A piece of similar linoleum;
  • Glue;
  • Primer;
  • Turpentine;
  • Rosin;
  • Plywood;
  • Putty;
  • Mastic;
  • Pigment.

Adhesive for linoleum

The process of filling holes in linoleum is not dusty, but there will still be debris, so it is better to use a vacuum cleaner rather than a broom.

When using the coating, careless rearrangement of furniture or other actions can lead to the formation of holes. They not only spoil the appearance of the floor, but also cling to feet and lead to moisture getting under the flooring. The hole must be patched immediately, otherwise restoration will be problematic.

Repairing large damage

If damaged large plot flooring, it will not be possible to seal the hole. You can revive linoleum only with a patch.

Replacing part of the flooring

The same coating or one as similar as possible is best suited for these purposes. The patch is applied to the damaged area to adjust the pattern. Using a ruler and a sharp knife, trim off the excess. Use scissors to straighten the edges of the hole and clean the base from dust. Glue the patch using glue or hot welding.

Linoleum went in waves

It is quite easy to remove the waves that appear on the coating. First you need to check what caused this defect - find the reason. Is the plinth pressed too hard against the material, which prevents it from becoming smoother? Reinstalling the baseboard with the gap present can solve this problem.

If the problem is not with the baseboard, then the next step is to check the fit of the covering to the wall. Is there a gap there, is the material sticking? If necessary, remove the excess and put the baseboard in place.

Reinstalling the baseboard may help.

Waves can also form due to the presence of moisture and dust under the flooring. After checking and removing the causes, carefully seal the material and smooth it well to remove air.

Coal holes

A burnt hole in linoleum is masked with a patch. To do this, the damaged area is cut out in the linoleum in the form of a flat geometric figure. It is ideal if there is a piece of material left after laying the flooring. You can cut a patch out of it. If not, then similar material is selected in the store.

Burnt floor

The patch is adjusted to the coating so that the pattern, size, and texture match. The area around the hole is sealed with masking tape. The floor around the defect is cleaned of dust, dirt, and treated with a primer. Apply glue to the hole and attach a patch. Place something heavy on top for several days. When repairing linoleum, you can show your design skills and creatively decorate the defect with canvases of different colors or an application of an unusual shape.

Joining seams

In large rooms or at joints on the threshold, the coating is joined by cold welding. During operation, linoleum may peel off at the joints. This problem can be fixed quite easily. To do this, the sheets of material must be stretched so that they overlap slightly by 5 mm. Cut the resulting mound using a ruler. Remove the cut pieces, degrease the edges, and secure the nearby surface with tape. You can glue the seam using PVC glue (type C). A bend is installed on top for better fastening. After the glue has hardened, remove the tape and coat the joint with special wax.

Gluing with cold glue

Torn holes

Depending on the edges of the torn hole in the linoleum, one or another repair is selected. If the edges are straight, you can do without a patch and use glue for repairs. Otherwise, you just need to patch it with a piece of linoleum of the right size.

When the flooring comes off, it is removed, the old mastic is removed and carefully stored in another room. Then the base of the floor is also cleaned of mastic, existing defects and unevenness are eliminated, and treated with a primer. Further actions look according traditional method linoleum flooring.

Sometimes the problem can only be solved this way

How to eliminate linoleum swelling

The bulge is formed due to the fact that the material did not have time to level out before fixing it with the baseboard. It interferes with the expansion of the coating under the influence of temperature, and a wave appears on the surface. To fix such a defect, you need to perform the following steps:

  • Remove furniture from the room;
  • Remove the baseboards;
  • Trim the linoleum along the edges, leaving a gap between the wall and the flooring;
  • Allow the material to rest for a day;
  • Pass over the surface with a roller;
  • Glue the covering to the floor;
  • Install baseboards.

If the swelling is small (bubbles, stripes), then there is no need to remove the baseboard. To eliminate the defect, make an incision in the center, level the surface and install pressure. After a while, insert glue under the cut area and press until it hardens completely.

To get rid of dents, the floor is treated with putty. It is prepared in two ways:

  • A mixture of 5 parts alcohol, 25 parts rosin, 4 parts castor oil with added dye;
  • A mixture of 4 parts turpentine and 1 part rosin with the addition of a dye of the desired color.

After applying the mixture to the dent, it should be well leveled and left to dry. After drying, clean the surface with sandpaper.

Dents are a common defect in linoleum.

If holes form on the linoleum, water can enter them, which will lead to swelling of the coating. Therefore, the problem must be eliminated immediately using polyvinyl chloride glue.

Apply masking tape to a small hole and make a puncture directly above the hole. Pour a little glue (type A) into the puncture. After drying, remove the tape. Cut off the protruding parts of the glue and clean the surface.

Filling the cavity

If the hole is large, then you need to perform the same steps, but without tape and use glue (type C).

Restoration of small holes

Thanks to the presence of a large number modern means Repairing minor damage will not be difficult. You can repair such defects using:

  • Mastics;
  • PVC glue;
  • Sealant;
  • Homemade adhesive composition.

Before repair, the defect site is cleaned of dust and dirt. After which it is filled with one of the means.

Serious damage to decking

To remove abrasions, cuts and scratches, putty is used. If it is impossible to purchase ready mixture, then you can make it yourself. It is prepared from rosin, turpentine and dry pigment. First you need to mix 4 parts of turpentine and one part of rosin, and then add a dye of a certain shade. The resulting mixture is applied to the defect site on the coating. After the mass hardens, it is cleaned of excess. Mastic is used for polishing and sanding the floor after repair.

Removing paint from a surface depends on the freshness of the stain. Immediately after paint gets on the floor, it can be removed with a regular rag. If the paint is dried, you can get rid of it mechanically or chemically.

Dried spots on the surface

For mechanical removal, abrasive cleaning agents are used. It should be taken into account that mechanical removal may damage the top decorative layer of the material.

Linoleum is a universal and relatively inexpensive floor covering; it is what is most often found on floors. various rooms. Even with the most careful and careful use, damage may occur.

Scuffs, cuts, unevenness, cracks and, of course, holes. They appear from mechanical damage. Such a nuisance can be restored without resorting to the help of craftsmen, right at home.

The hole in the linoleum must be repaired immediately as soon as it is noticed, otherwise its size will increase. Also, such damage can become a source of proliferation of microorganisms, mold and terrible fungus. It will be difficult to fix this.

Required Tools

To restore the damaged area, you should prepare. The following items will be needed:

  • the remainder of the damaged linoleum, the piece should be an area that is enough to make a patch;
  • a sharp and hard knife, a cutter will also do;
  • device for making a right angle. You can take any corner, wooden or metal;
  • any adhesive substance. You will have to use glue or “”, putty will also do.;
  • , but not ordinary metal, but made of rubber;
  • wide adhesive tape or masking tape, they will be needed for the intermediate stage;
  • roller, we will use it when working with adhesive;

It is important to know: when renovations are underway, you should not throw away excess pieces of linoleum. They will come in handy for sealing a torn or burned area.

  • also for comfortable work a syringe is very useful with glue;
  • to heat the material, you need a regular electric hair dryer;
  • a piece of hard and dense material, with the help of which the surface will need to be leveled;
  • something heavy that will serve as a weight to press down the patched piece.

Repairing minor damage

To remove a small hole or cut on the floor, you need to prepare an adhesive mixture (putty) or simply buy a ready-made one.
  • rosin in crumbly form (as powder);
  • container in which the mixture will be prepared. It should be made of porcelain;
  • alcohol - one hundred and fifty grams;
  • castor oil - one hundred grams.

Rosin is placed on water bath and heated in a porcelain dish. After complete melting, its temperature must be reduced to fifty degrees. Next, it is mixed with castor oil and alcohol, and then a color pigment is added. It will help to better disguise the damage.

Note: After drying, the putty will become lighter. This factor must be taken into account when adding pigment to the mixture.

We apply the finished mixture to the place where the linoleum is torn or a crack has formed. To make the seam completely invisible, the surface is sanded. Glass plaster is perfect for this.

Masking major damage

Restoration begins with cutting out a patch; it can be done by anyone geometric shape. But a square or rectangular patch will provide smoother seams.

It should be made larger than the hole itself. Apply a patch over the damage. No matter how the piece moves, it can be temporarily glued with masking tape. Further very sharp knife cut a piece of linoleum to the size of the patch.

After this, apply adhesive mass to the cut out part and apply it to the prepared place. We put a load on top, it should stand for at least a couple of days.

This technique will help to perfectly glue the desired part. . The stickers will be almost invisible. To thoroughly study the technique, it is better to first watch videos of similar work.

Burning through different layers

What to do if you burn through linoleum? This phenomenon often occurs among hookah owners, because it is very easy to do this with charcoal.

But even without a hookah, burns are possible. First of all, it is worth determining the nature of the damage - how deep the damage to the linoleum occurred.

Flooring layers:

  • the upper protective layer, it is called transparent;
  • the layer on which the drawing is applied;
  • foamed polyvinyl chloride;
  • fiberglass;
  • foamed polyvinyl chloride.

Repairing damage to the protective layer

The hookah coals are soft and in very rare cases they make a hole through them. If during the burn only the top layer of linoleum was affected, then first you need to clean the area of the stain from the burnt edges.

Since the drawing was not damaged, this problem will be practically invisible. But at a certain angle of light it will be slightly noticeable.

Therefore, we take a coin and smooth out the edges of the damage with an edge, and then apply a special mastic for linoleum. This mastic can be easily found in any hardware store.

Burn through the pattern and the top layer of polyvinyl chloride

If the colored base and polyvinyl chloride are damaged, even after cleaning there will be a stain that will have darkened edges and a whitish or yellowish light in the middle. Even one such mark will greatly spoil the entire appearance of the floor covering.

The situation will be corrected by using glue, which is used to fasten the edges of linoleum using the “cold welding” type. But when laying new flooring, type A is used, and for old material, type C adhesive is required.

Pick up desired color It won’t be difficult; stores offer a wide range of colors. It will need to be applied to the resulting holes. You can prepare such a pigment yourself.

You should take a piece of linoleum of this type. If there are no residues left, you can cut it in an inconspicuous place, for example under the baseboard. Next, using a sharp knife or blade, you need to remove the crumbs from the colored base.

After mixing it with mastic, we also apply it to the burned part. After complete hardening, the excess is cut off to the same level as the coating. Additionally, you can coat it with wax, but this is not necessary.

If the burn turns out to be through, then you need to make a patch using the above method with regular holes. In conclusion, I would like to note that fixing a hole in linoleum with your own hands is not as difficult as it might initially seem.

Such a nuisance should be removed immediately, because the floor covering is a sealant, and any damage can lead to the formation of fungus and damage to the entire sheet. How to glue cut linoleum, see next video:

From this article you will learn how to properly operate and care for linoleum, what means are available for its repair and correction. We will talk about ways to eliminate the most common problems with this material - how to seal linoleum, strengthen the base or level out “bubbles”.

Elasticity, so convenient during installation, during operation becomes the cause of mechanical damage when moving furniture, falling sharp objects and in other everyday situations.

Over decades of active use of this material, all its shortcomings and potential problems have been well studied and optimal “folk” solutions have been found for them. RMNT proposes to consider the most common defects of laid linoleum and ways to eliminate them.

Problem 1. How to glue linoleum

This question may arise in the most different circumstances, and it is absolutely not necessary for the linoleum to lie on the floor. Do not forget about its versatility - it is perfect for car interior decoration, garden furniture and balcony walls (for lack of a better word). When finishing large areas, joining the sheets is necessary at the installation stage. Of course, this is not a problem for high-class professionals who have a large arsenal of tools and equipment.

At home, gluing linoleum can be much easier. There are two ways - “cold” and “hot”.

Cold welding of linoleum

Cold welding is the conventional name for the gluing process, in which the contact surfaces are dissolved by chemically active substances in the adhesive and mixed (they penetrate each other by 0.1-0.5 mm). After the solvent evaporates (the glue dries), the materials remain bound by their own particles, without an adhesive layer.

This is the most reliable way“cold” connection of planes, especially for elastic material. The term “cold welding” is also used to simplify a group of adhesives with the described properties.

Operating procedure:

  1. Combine two strips of linoleum with an overlap of 50-60 mm.
  2. In the middle of the overlap we draw a cutting line.
  3. Place a soft pad under both sheets.
  4. Using a retractable knife, cut both fins at once along the cutting line. Use a guide - a steel ruler.
  5. Remove the lining and trimmings. Paste masking tape onto the seam and cut it along the cutting line.
  6. Place the tip with the needle on the tube and carefully, moving the needle inside the seam, fill the seam with glue. Alternatively, you can use a knife to widen the seam, but this will involve both hands.
  7. After 15 minutes, carefully remove the tape. It can be used no earlier than after 3 hours.

Cold welding of linoleum, video

Such home method Aligning sheets is as simple as it is popular. There is only one question - what glue to use? Many companies produce glue and baseboards for their products, but these are often “expensive” companies and products. Typically these products are labeled as "Cold Welding Linoleum Adhesive" or "Linoleum Adhesive".

Prices for linoleum glue

Hot welding of linoleum

The term “hot welding” reveals the essence of the gluing process. A special composition that is in a solid aggregate state (usually a cord) becomes liquid-plastic when heated. When heated, it is placed in an embroidered seam (3-5 mm), where it vulcanizes with the edges of the linoleum and, after hardening, becomes homogeneous with it. This is the maximum effective method— the sheets literally become one whole. To “weld” linoleum seams you need special tool— professional construction hair dryer with attachments.

Problem 2. How to repair a hole in linoleum

This defect varies depending on the degree of damage. Area of damaged area in in this case is crucial.

A large area - more than 100 mm2 in area - will have to be replaced. To do this, you need to find a patch, preferably made of linoleum of the same color. If you're lucky, the pattern will match and the patch won't be visible.

Advice. Do not throw away leftover linoleum after installation. A few pieces may be useful when repairing the coating.

Operating procedure:

  1. Determine the approximate dimensions of the patch and apply the markings on a separate sheet.
  2. Place the donor sheet on the damaged area and combine the pattern.
  3. Cut through both layers with a sharp retractable knife.

Attention! Do not blindly cut through the bottom layer all the way through the corners. It is better to select the corners separately later.

  1. Remove the damaged area and clean the base.
  2. Trim the edges of the patch by 2-3 mm so that it fits freely into the area being replaced.
  3. If the linoleum is laid with glue, place the patch on the mounting adhesive and press it for 24 hours.
  4. If the linoleum is laid dry, follow steps 5-7 from the “Cold Welding” section of this article.

Video on how to repair a hole in linoleum

A small area - less than 100 mm 2 - can be sealed with a special glue-based repair mixture. This method works best on glued coatings with non-through damage. Special kits for floor repairs PVC coatings is available for free sale - the composition includes a colorless repair composition, colorant, solvent, tools (rubber spatula, sticks and containers), a set of samples for selecting colors.

Operating procedure:

  1. If it is a burn, strip the burned area down to clean PVC.
  2. Select the color of the composition from the samples.
  3. Mix the tinting liquid until the desired shade is achieved.
  4. Add color to the repair composition.
  5. Mix the composition thoroughly.
  6. Apply the tinted repair compound with a spatula and remove any remaining residue.

Problem 3. How to level linoleum

The blame for the appearance of swelling of the base and bubbles of the linoleum itself without obvious external factors (overheating, flooding) in 100% of cases lies with unscrupulous builders.

Basically, bubbles appear due to the fact that the sheet was not allowed to “rest” and was pressed against the baseboard. Technological expansion stalls and a wave appears. These places are subject to wear 5-10 times more than areas laid using technology. There is only one way to eliminate such a nuisance, and it is quite simple.

Operating procedure:

  1. Remove all furniture from the room.
  2. Before smoothing the linoleum, you need to remove the entire baseboard.
  3. If the material lies close to the walls, trim it by 20-25 mm.
  4. Wait 24 hours and roll the surface with a roller or heavy bag.
  5. If the bubbles are not smoothed out, glue the area with assembly adhesive.

Another case - swelling of the base - can be eliminated without removing the linoleum layer. This problem often appears in places where new linoleum is laid on an old base.

Operating procedure:

  1. In the place of the pattern strip, we cut the linoleum with a knife and carefully open the sinus 20-30 mm.
  2. We fix the base with a self-tapping screw in the bosom.
  3. We close the sinus.
  4. We install a special nozzle for cracks on the flooring adhesive.
  5. Introduce glue end-to-end and remove excess.

There is no need to talk about the scale of distribution and popularity of linoleum - it is or was in every house, in every apartment. High-quality durable material can be found in public, medical, cultural and educational institutions.

For own apartments and private houses, owners often choose inexpensive options and not so much from unreasonable economy, but from considerations of aesthetics - with cosmetic repairs which you want to do in 3-5 years, cheap material don't mind replacing it.
