A necessary element of any roof is roof flashings, which protect it from water penetration inside and leaks that can lead to the destruction of the house.

Types of roof flashings

Roof flashings can be made from various materials– plastic, metals (galvanized steel, copper). They have different shapes. The purpose of ebb tides is to collect water from the roof and drain it into the drainage system using special devices. This drainage element must have such characteristics as: increased strength, load resistance and mechanical stress, presence of anti-corrosion coating, attractive appearance.

The galvanized steel casting has a thickness of no more than 1 millimeter. Such products are additionally coated with polyester, pural, and plastisol. If the steel does not have such a coating, the house will not be very comfortable to live in: the sound of raindrops is greatly enhanced.

The aluminum casting has a thickness of 0.8-1 millimeters. To protect against corrosion, it is coated with varnish on all sides. To improve the appearance of the product, varnishes of various colors can be used.

Copper castings are subjected to brass plating or oxidation. Elements made from this metal are durable and have an attractive appearance. They will last for a long time, but their cost is quite high.

Typically, ebb tides are made in the form of a shallow trench with special brackets that are necessary for fastening. Depending on the size of the roof, the length of the ebb can be from 1 to 6 meters. You can also choose a color that will match other elements of the drainage system and roofing.

Benefits of creating ebb tides

Ebb tides for water drainage (see photo) have the following advantages:

  • the protection of the roof and walls from the adverse effects of moisture increases;
  • the appearance of the roof becomes more attractive due to the closing of the joints between materials;
  • resistance to impact increases environment, for example, temperature changes and precipitation;
  • the overall rigidity of the roof structure increases.

Polyester casting has the greatest number of advantages, which, together with its low price, contributes to its widespread use.

How to calculate the diameter of ebb tides

In order to correctly install ebbs on the roof, it is necessary to correctly calculate its dimensions, since ebbs of insufficient depth and width may not cope with the function assigned to it.

The following values are used for calculations:

  • distance between drainage outlets and gutter turning points;
  • roof area.

To determine the roof area, it is conditionally divided into elements in the form geometric shapes(rectangles, triangles, etc.) and calculate the area of each of them. Then the results obtained are summarized.

On each slope it is necessary to install two gutters with a slope towards the pipe intended for drainage. The diameter of the gutter can be 100 or 125 millimeters; it is selected based on the intensity of the expected load on the drainage system. If the building is small, you can install gutters of a smaller diameter.

Making ebb tides

Buying ready-made castings is much preferable to making them yourself. Drainage elements produced in industrial conditions, have a carefully thought-out design. The finished kit includes gutters, pipes of different diameters, droppers, hanging hooks (brackets), plugs, and angles. Also included with the drip tides are drainage funnels and protective nets that serve to prevent clogging of the drain when debris gets in.

You can also buy finished products if you install them yourself.

They have the following advantages:

  • durability and reliability;
  • variety of colors and shapes;
  • ease of installation and ease of maintenance;
  • product warranty;
  • possibility of producing elements according to individual order;
  • not required anti-corrosion coating and painting of ebbs (this is done during production);
  • affordable prices.

Large assortment pipes and gutters of various diameters and sizes makes it possible to combine drainage elements and select a set according to price parameters.

Installation of ebb tides

All gutters should be located above the drainage systems, and turns should be located at a small distance from the median drainage systems.

You can also make a rectangular cast. To do this, you will need a sheet of metal with a thickness of 0.7 millimeters and a manual sheet bending machine. You can buy it at a hardware store at low price. For calculation required quantity ebb tides, it is necessary to determine the perimeter and divide it by the length of one ebb tide.

Next, the sheet of metal is cut into strips at least three meters long. The width should be equal to the perimeter of the future ebb, 10-15% is added to this value for the allowance - this will be needed to fill the metal into the machine. You can cut it out circular saw or Bulgarian. When the metal strips are ready, they are threaded into the machine and the desired cast contour is set using rolls. As a result of rolling the strips, a finished metal cast is obtained. After inner surface the products are coated with an anti-corrosion compound, for example, plastisol, and the outer surface is painted in the desired color.

Then they begin to install the brackets - the finished ebbs will be attached to them. The brackets are mounted at intervals of 50 - 60 centimeters, while for each meter of ebb length a slope of about 3 millimeters must be observed. Thanks to this, the water will be completely removed from the gutter and will not stagnate.

As for how to install the low tide, this should be done using a special rubber gasket 1-2 millimeters thick, which are necessary so that when attaching the gutter to the bracket, the layer of paint or varnish is not damaged. The ebb tides should be installed before creating waterproofing coating roofs. This makes it possible to attach the brackets directly to the Mauerlat, which will close after the waterproofing is constructed. After completing the installation of the drain on the brackets, check the quality of work by passing a stream of water through the gutter. If the installation of drip tides was carried out correctly, even with large volumes of precipitation there should be no leaks.

Ebb tides for the foundation

In addition to drainage systems for roofs, a house also needs foundation drains that drain melt water And precipitation. In addition, the flashings on the foundation also perform a decorative function - they hide the gaps between the base and the facade and give the building a finished look.

Maximum length of these products is 5 meters. Designs of this size provide reliable waterproofing foundation and increase the service life of the building. Installation of ebb tides is carried out on initial stage finishing the façade of a building, for example, with siding, porcelain stoneware, corrugated sheeting. The cost of installing facade ebbs is low. You can do the installation yourself - it's quite simple.

The process of creating ebb tides will not cause difficulties if the width and depth of the surface are measured correctly.

When siding or corrugated sheeting is used for finishing, the necessary data is calculated after installing the sheathing, which is used to level the surface. The joints formed during installation are sealed with polyurethane foam.

Flashings for the roof and foundation are necessary in order to prevent the destructive effects of moisture on the building. A properly created drainage system will help get rid of many problems caused by precipitation.

Roof drains - 3 design options and installation techniques

To an inexperienced person it may seem that roof drainage systems are a secondary design, but this is far from the case. After all, without them, the blind area will not live long, and the foundation will gradually be flooded. Let's look at 3 roof drainage systems, and I'll show practitioners how to install it all with your own hands.

Three types of systems

Let’s be clear right away, in addition to roofing in private houses there is also stormwater and drainage system removal of moisture from the house. They are indirectly related to the roofing system, so they are not of interest to us now.

Illustrations Recommendations
Option #1. Plastic.

Plastic moldings are now the most popular. Their installation is quite simple, but if you make a mistake with the installation location, ice or snow coming off the roof will simply tear them off.

Option #2. Metal.

Installing metal ebbs is no more difficult than plastic ones, but they are much stronger and more durable.

There are 4 types of such ebb tides:

  1. Flashings made of galvanized steel;
  2. Aluminum castings;
  3. Copper tides;
  4. Titanium-zinc castings.

The most affordable galvanized steel, but it must be taken only with polymer painting, otherwise the system will rust within 10 years.

Aluminum, copper and zinc-titanium are approximately the same in durability, they start from 50 years, but the price for these casts is very high.

Option #3. Homemade products.

There are 2 options here: bend it from galvanized steel or assemble it from plastic sewer pipes.

It is much simpler and easier to work with pipes, so I recommend it, but more on that later.

Subtleties and equipment of arrangement

By and large, it is not so important whether you take plastic or some other type metal systems, the main thing is not to make a mistake with the parameters and installation location. We'll talk about installation later, but this is how things work with parameters.

System parameters

The main parameter of the system is the choice of the cross-section of the gutter and drainpipes:

  • For small stingrays up to 70 m2- Small gutters with a cross-section of 90 mm can be used. The cross-section of the drainpipes is 75 mm;
  • On roofs up to 150 m² ebbs with a cross section of 110 mm and pipes with a diameter of 100 mm are installed. In private houses, the maximum cross-section for ebb and flow is 130 mm, and for pipes 100 mm;

There are also gutters with a cross-section of 150 mm, but they are mainly installed on large roofs of industrial and administrative buildings.

  • The length of one gutter span should not exceed 12 m. If the straight length of the overhang exceeds 12 m, then 2 drainage funnels are installed on it at different ends of the span;
  • The pitch of hanging brackets when hanging plastic ebbs does not exceed 600 mm, during installation metal structures the step can be up to 1 m;
  • Funnel installation location in the system of great importance does not have. It can be installed from any edge or in the middle, the main thing is that the ebb in relation to the funnel is mounted with a slope.

How to install a serial drainage model

The difference between the installation of plastic and metal systems is small. Almost every company that produces such systems claims that their product is exclusive and its installation is special. But from experience, they are not much different, and since plastic systems are more common, we will talk about them.

Illustrations Recommendations
Funnel installation.

If the roof is already equipped, then the flashings are mounted on the front board.

The drainage funnel is installed first. According to the rules, the edge of the funnel should be 20 mm below the imaginary extension of the roof plane.

Moreover, if you draw a vertical line from the roof cut into the gutter, then it should extend inward by a third of the gutter’s size.

First brackets.

The first two hanging brackets are screwed to the front board next to the drain funnel.

The distance from the funnel to the brackets is 2 cm.

Gutter slope.

The standard slope of the gutter for drainage systems of this type ranges from 2–5 cm. If we attach the system to the front board, then in order to maintain the slope we need to secure 2 outer brackets with the required difference in height, and then a cord is pulled between them and the intermediate brackets are attached .

Bracket pitch.

Since we are dealing with plastic, the maximum bracket spacing is 60 cm.

Metal brackets.

Metal brackets are mounted on the sheathing, under the roofing material. Accordingly, such a system is installed before installation roofing material.

The markup here is a little different. First you need to put all the brackets in one line.

Marking.
Bend.

To bend metal brackets, a special device called a strip bender is usually used; it has a side along which the marking line on the bracket is installed.

Attaching metal brackets.

The hooks are screwed with self-tapping screws to the outer boards of the sheathing.

Installation of gutters.

Plastic systems change their linear dimensions during temperature changes, so the gutters are simply inserted into the grooves of the funnel.

Under no circumstances should gutters be glued to a funnel.

There are graduations on the walls of the funnel indicating the degrees. The gutter is installed at a level corresponding to the ambient temperature during installation.

Joint between gutters.

To connect the gutter sections together, a special pad with grooves is used, the instructions are as follows:

  • Cut off a section of the gutter with a hacksaw;
  • Clean the cut with a knife;
  • Join adjacent sections with a gap of about 5–7 mm;
  • Lubricate the inside of the docking pad with glue and snap it onto the gutters.

As shown in the photo, the edge of the docking pad should not be closer than 10 cm from the bracket.

Gutter elbow.

The rotating elements are also glued to the gutters. In this case, the edge of the rotating element should not be closer than 4.5 cm from the bracket.

Angle of gutters.

On large roofs, where 2 drain funnels are installed at the edges, the slope of the gutters is arranged from the center to the funnels.
In this case, plugs are glued to the ends of the gutters, and the gutters themselves are connected using special overlays with temperature graduations.

Here, too, the edges of the gutters are set according to the air temperature in the shade at the time of installation.

Drainpipes.

When installing plastic drainpipes, rigid adhesive connection used only on the first and last bend, all other sections of pipes and couplings are simply connected into grooves.

Pipe brackets.

Each section of the drainpipe is suspended on 2 brackets, which are attached to the wall with screws or anchor bolts.

It is not uncommon for roof flashings made by yourself to be of better quality than standard products.

Statistics show that in individual housing construction this approach is used more often.

This is explained by economic circumstances and considerations of personal interest in the final result.

At the same time, it should be remembered that the roof is the most important element in the design of any building.

Based on this condition, the installation of the roof and all necessary accessories must be done correctly - strictly according to technology and without deviations from design solutions.

What are tides for?

Rain or melt water must be quickly and completely removed from the roof without outside help.

Any type of roof has a certain slope, which determines the intensity of water rolling off the surface.

If this process is slowed down for some reason, then there is a high probability that over time the walls of the house will get wet.

The photo below shows a diagram of the location of drains for various types of roofing.

As a result, wet areas will begin to lose their original parameters. Mold will form on them. To exclude such a development of events, install roof ebbs with your own hands.

These products serve to direct water flows to specially equipped drains.

The absence of low tides creates conditions for the development of negative phenomena, such as the destruction of the foundation, walls and the roof itself.

In order to ensure reliable protection house as a whole, ebb tides should have the following qualities:

  • corrosion resistance;
  • mechanical strength;
  • aesthetic appearance.

When installing ebb tides, you must not forget that these elements also perform a decorative function.

When developing sketches and choosing materials, these considerations are also taken into account. Any design should last a long time, be easy to use and affordable to install.

Materials for low tides

The drainage system consists of a set standard products. Before making a choice of a particular material, you need to familiarize yourself with the parameters of this system.

Correctly determine how well the unified elements fit the facade of the house. The main elements of the drainage system are gutters and pipes.

The video below shows the design of a roof drainage system.

Today there are freely available on the market various types these products. The kit necessarily includes brackets, plugs, clamps and other elements.

When planning to install ebb tides yourself, you need to carefully familiarize yourself with the parameters of the products that are offered for sale.

Galvanized castings

Until recently, galvanized steel was widely used for the manufacture of moldings.

The main advantage of products of this type is their low price.

Disadvantages include relatively short term operation.

The destruction of zinc coating occurs under the influence of acid rain, which has become increasingly common in recent decades.

Aluminum ebbs

Aluminum products have more long term operation.

You can make them yourself or buy them ready-made and paint them in a color suitable for a particular building.

The gutters are secured using rivets or aluminum glue.

Sealing the joints can be done with silicone or a special paste.

Copper casts

Copper tides are considered the most durable.

Products are made from pure metal and do not have additional coatings.

The elements are connected to each other by soldering or folding.

Installation of copper gutters must be done in such a way as to avoid contact with other metals - copper or steel.

PVC sills

To date plastic products received the greatest distribution.

Plastic drainage systems can be used for up to fifty years or more.

To install such systems, couplings, latches with rubber seals and special glue are used.

Plastic castings are not subject to corrosion and retain their characteristics even with maximum temperature changes.

Gutter design

The cross section of the product can have the following types:

  • square;
  • rectangle;
  • semicircle;
  • semi-ellipse;
  • trapezoid

The most common types are semicircular products. They are suitable for almost any type of roof.

The outer edges of the gutter, which bend both outward and inward, serve as stiffeners. Thanks to this, the product is highly resistant to mechanical stress.

In the photo below you can see the elements of the drain.

Gutters in the shape of a semi-ellipse are capable of passing a powerful flow of water through them.

They are used for large area roofs. Square and rectangular profiles are most often used as design elements in facade design.

Installation of drainage system

Installing a drainage system for the roof of a private house is a simple procedure. This work can be done by two people.

It should be borne in mind that in any matter related to installation or finishing, there are always subtleties and nuances that you need to know about in advance.

Before making a final decision, you need to weigh your capabilities and financial resources.

At the first stage, it is determined from what material the structure, shape and color of the gutter will be assembled.

The next step is to calculate required quantity elements and fasteners.

The entire kit is then purchased and delivered to the location where installation will take place.

The view below shows how to properly install a drainage system.

Often a container is installed near the house to collect rainwater. There are other solutions for this.

The water collected from the roof is directed through a drainpipe through a special gutter into the sewer or gutter. Installation begins with marking and securely fixing the brackets.

First, the topmost bracket is attached, which is located at the opposite point from the drainpipe.

The second bracket is installed at the lowest point. A twine is pulled from it to the first one. And all intermediate brackets are attached to the designated level.

The distance between them should be within 50 cm, with a tolerance of ten centimeters in one direction or another.

The next step is to assemble and install the gutters. The industry produces elements with a length of 1, 2 and 2.5 meters. If necessary, these sections are connected into a highway of the required length.

The joints are sealed with special gaskets. The plugs are securely fixed at the extreme points of the assembled gutter.

In a pre-marked place under the roof, a receiving funnel is attached, which is also called a storm drain.

It is necessary that the axis of the funnel coincides with the hole in the gutter. And it should have a slope towards the storm drain and a slope away from the house.

This reduces the chance of damage to the flashing when snow falls off the roof.

At the final stage, the installation of drainpipes is carried out. Drain pipe must be mounted exactly under the receiving funnel.

During the fastening process, the verticality of the pipe should be checked after fixing each clamp. To do this, just use a regular carpenter's plumb line.

The pipe is attached to the wall with special clamps or holders. Fastening elements are selected depending on what material the wall of the house is built from.

The most commonly used are screws, self-tapping screws, dowels or nails. Nails may only be used for wooden walls. The holders are placed at the pipe joints.

The maximum distance between them should not exceed two meters.

Drainage of water from the site

Before you begin installing a drainage system, you need to do one very important thing. A decision needs to be made about where the rainwater will be used and for what purpose.

Flashings are part of the drainage system, which is necessary for any roof covering. The presence of these elements allows you to quickly remove moisture from the roof and prevent rotting, corrosion of the material and leaks in the structure. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to correctly select and install flashings, taking into account the characteristics of the roofing material.

Correct installation of roof ebbs

Gutters connected to each other and to other elements of the drainage system are called ebbs. They can be triangular, rectangular or round section, which is the most common. The principle of their operation is that water flows down the surface of the roof and enters the gutters, and through them enters the drainage communications. Thanks to this, moisture does not accumulate on the roof, which helps prevent corrosion, rotting and damage to the coating.

Roof flashings are matched to the color of the roofing

The design of ebb and flow always requires the presence of connecting elements, thanks to which it is possible to create a drain of the required length. At the same time, installation of the system on different types roofing requires adherence to technology.

At self-mounting The following features should be taken into account:

  • The ebb tide is located with a slope towards the water intake funnel, which will ensure effective removal of sediments. For 1 m of pipes a slope of 4–5 mm is required;
  • The diameter of the gutter depends on the roof area. For example, a roof of 90 m2 requires an element with a diameter of 8 cm;
  • flashings are placed 3 cm below the edge of the roof overhang. This is necessary to prevent damage to the element as a result of snow melting;
  • vertical drainage pipes are installed every 5 m, and when complex structures they have roofs on every corner;
  • The gutter is supplemented with a teardropper, which prevents drops from bouncing off the ebb in different directions.

Self-installation of low tide

The gutter can be plastic or metal, but in any case it is important to prepare the tools and additional materials for work. A saw, screwdriver and rope, as well as self-tapping screws will help secure the structure. Construction level it will be possible to check the angle of inclination; special brackets are used for installing ebb tides.

The gutter should be located with a slope towards the funnel and wastewater intake system

To work, you will also need all parts of the system, for example, a funnel, plugs, corners connecting inserts. First you need to determine the location and extent of the system. Funnels are often placed in the corners of the building, where vertical drainage pipes are located.

Flashing for the building's gable

Drainage elements of the roof can be different, and one of the options is the ebb of the gable. This part is a canopy that is considered part of the building and serves to drain water from walls and windows.

The canopy is built on a sheathing and equipped with a low tide gutter

To create this low tide option you will need corrugated sheeting, wooden blocks 50x80 mm, roofing screws. Fastening wooden parts to each other can be done with nails and a hammer. These parts must be made of wood with a moisture content of no more than 12%, and they must also be pre-treated with an antiseptic.

The visor can be supplemented with a gutter-shaped ebb

The complex of works to create a pediment ebb involves the following actions:

  1. The angle of inclination of the rafters for low tide should be from 20 to 45°, and the width of this element should be from 500 to 600 mm. The bars are sawed into parts of the appropriate size and taking into account the angle of connection of the elements.
  2. The frame for the ebb is assembled from the bars, attaching them to the roof rafters and the wall of the building with nails and anchor bolts.
  3. A covering of corrugated sheets or metal tiles is installed on top of the finished sheathing, making an overlap of about 5 cm and carefully treating the seams with sealant.

Roofing screws are used to fasten corrugated sheets. In the places where the structure adjoins the pediment or the wall, you need to fix the metal corner with the same screws, and fill the seam with sealant. This ensures the strength of the ebb and prevents moisture from entering the structure.

Installation of plastic drip

The drainage system made of plastic is lightweight and does not load the roof, and modern products are durable. Therefore, plastic casting is often the most cost-effective and practical solution to protect the roof from moisture accumulation.

The plastic ebb is fixed with self-tapping screws

The stages of installing a plastic drip sill are as follows:

  1. After installing the rafters and fixing waterproofing film You need to pull the cord along the bottom of the slope, taking into account the required slope of the direction of the ebb.
  2. On the outer roof sheathing, which is covered waterproofing material, install brackets for the gutter. Screw these elements with self-tapping screws at equal distances from each other. The optimal step is 50–70 cm.
  3. Connect gutter modules into a system required length, install plugs at the ends. Fix the parts one by one on the brackets.

To check the tightness and correctness, you need to pour a bucket of water into the system at one of the ends and at the corner of the building and observe the movement of the liquid. If it reaches the special pipe and ditch quickly and does not accumulate in any area of the ebb tides, then the work has been done correctly.

Installation of metal gutters

Metal flashings can be copper, aluminum or alloy steel. Such products weigh more than plastic ones and therefore require the same durable brackets. To install metal systems, you need to strengthen the sheathing in the area where the brackets are fixed, and for this, boards with a section of 50x150 mm are used.

Metal casting requires careful fixation, because it has a lot of weight

Installation of metal gutters involves the following steps:

  1. A rope is pulled along the bottom of the slope at the desired level of the drainage location and taking into account the slope. This is carried out before installing the waterproofing film, but after completing the rafters and strengthening the sheathing.
  2. The gutter elements are fastened together with rivets and then attached to brackets installed on the roof frontal board. The plugs are mounted on the outer elements, after installing a rubber seal and supplementing the joint area with roofing sealant.
  3. The gutter with a plug is mounted in hangers. If you plan to install a funnel, then a hole in the gutter is created in advance with a hacksaw or electric drill and a special crown of the required diameter.
  4. After installing the drip tide, attach the drainpipe with a funnel, carefully waterproofing the joints. The system is then tested for efficiency by filling it with water.

How to install ebb corners of different widths

Formation of a drain on the roof complex shape or bypassing the projection require connecting flashings at the corners. In this case, it is often necessary to connect the ebb tides different widths. For this purpose, special corners are used, namely internal connectors and external couplings, which can be with different sizes corner.

External couplings will help connect gutters of different widths at the corners of the building

The process of connecting gutters at corners is no different from fixing straight elements. The brackets are placed close to the corner, which will ensure the strength and reliability of the system. If the corner has short edges, then the place where they meet with the straight gutter is carefully waterproofed with roofing sealant.

Some manufacturers produce corners with markings for the drainpipe

There may be a drainpipe at the corner of the building and therefore it is necessary to provide a hole for installing a funnel. Using a hacksaw or a drill with a metal bit, make a hole at the corner joint for the gutters, but first you need to carefully measure the diameter of the funnel. There are also ready-made kits funnels and corner gutters that do not require complex installation.

Video: option for joining the gutter in the corner area

Drainage for soft roofs

Roof surface covered with bitumen shingles does not provide rapid removal of moisture and therefore for soft roof gutters are required. For installation, you can choose plastic models, but they are more durable metal options with polymer colored coating.

For a soft roof of any shape, gutters are needed

If plastic brackets are used, they are fixed to the front board with a distance between elements of 60 cm. Metal supports They are attached to the outer board of the sheathing before laying the material.

The technology involves the following stages:

  1. At one end of the edge of the sheathing or front board, attach a self-tapping screw and draw an inclined line, taking into account the fact that for every meter there is about 5 mm of slope. At the end of the line, attach another self-tapping screw and tighten the rope.
  2. The brackets are fixed along this line at a distance of about 50–60 cm from each other. The extreme supports are mounted at a distance of 15 cm from the end of the board.
  3. When installing the gutter, the edge of the element, which is located closer to the edge, is inserted into the fastening clamp. Release the bracket, apply a little pressure and secure the opposite edge. Glue is applied to the corner from the inside and the gutter is promptly folded. You need to push the corner all the way. Next, the gutter with the glued corner is placed in other brackets.
  4. After this, glue is applied to the inner area and the elements are connected. Plugs are installed on the end parts.

Repair of roof gutters

As a result of snow and ice melting, heavy rains and strong gusts of wind, the gutters of the drainage system can be damaged. The most unstable to such factors are plastic structures, metal ones are more durable, but in any case, system repair may be required.

Any type of gutter can be damaged by climatic factors

Low tides are exposed to many factors, and disruption of the functionality of the drainage system requires operational repair. The following situations are common:

  • Poor drainage is often due to dirt, fallen leaves and debris accumulated in gutters. It is easy to fix the problem by cleaning the system of foreign objects;
  • If a crack occurs in the gutter, then the element must be replaced. If there is a break across the entire surface, this part must be completely replaced. Small cracks can be easily repaired with two-component cold welding;
  • if the elements of the drainage system are separated, then you need to clean the damaged area from dirt, remove old fasteners and carefully connect the parts, treating the joint with sealant;
  • Rust occurs on metal products with a damaged protective layer. It can be cleaned with a sponge and the area coated with anti-corrosion paint. If rust has affected the entire system, then it is best to replace the ebb tides;
  • After many years of operation, deformed pipes are always replaced with new ones. This is necessary for plastic and metal products, which have not been repaired for decades.

Integrity and correct installation Roof flashings are the key to good protection of the building from moisture. The gutter system has simple design, but allows you to protect walls, windows and foundations from harmful effects water. Regular repairs are just as necessary as proper installation of gutters, as it extends the life of the drainage structure.

Any house construction cannot do without a rain and melt water drainage system. Previously, galvanized steel products were mainly used for these purposes, but recently many people prefer plastic components. They are inexpensive and have a fairly decent degree of strength, so it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the technology for installing PVC systems.

It is no secret that the elements of the drainage system differ not only in diameter, but also in the type of material from which they are made. Many still and galvanized metal pipes yourself. However, if you take into account the features of plastic products, your preferences can change dramatically:

  • Simplicity of installation work.
  • Affordable price.
  • Light weight structure.
  • Corrosion resistance.
  • Wide range of colors.
  • No noise when it rains.

Before you make roof flashings with your own hands, for an objective assessment, you should also add disadvantages to the above plastic material. These include: the impossibility self-made and repair of system elements. In addition, PVC gutters are only suitable for low-rise construction.

The installation features not only save time, but also money for the homeowner, because drains can be installed simultaneously with the construction of the roof. Any hardware store offers numerous sets of plastic gutters various configurations and sections. The number of elements and their parameters will have to be determined at the preparatory stage.

What is the price of plastic gutters for the roof of a private house?

The cost of current plastic drainage components is affordable to a wide range of homeowners. Such elements are much cheaper than copper or titanium analogues. At the same time, vinyl products are highly aesthetic and environmentally friendly. The tightness of the plasticized system practically does not suffer from temperature changes, because the connection of the elements is equipped with a rubber seal.

It must be admitted that high-quality roof flashings are made of plastic and the price is appropriate. Below is the cost of products from some popular manufacturers among developers:

  • Gutter 3 meters Docke – from 437 rubles.
  • Pipe 3 meters Docke – from 529 rubles.
  • Docke gutter funnel – 275 rubles.
  • Gutter 4 meters Nicoll – from 840 rubles.
  • Pipe 4 meters Nicoll – from 1120 rubles.
  • Nicoll gutter funnel – from 597 rubles.
  • Gutter 4 meters Roofart – from 787 rubles.
  • Pipe 4 meters Roofart – from 1294 rubles.
  • Roofart gutter funnel – 512 rubles.

Each of plastic systems has its pros and cons. For example, Rufart has special rigidity profiles that make it possible to withstand severe mechanical loads in the event of icing or heavy rain.

Calculation of materials for roof drainage

The required cross-sectional area of the groove can be established using SP 17.13330.2011. The document states that square meter The roof area should account for 1.5 cm² of the gutter cross-section. Any competent installation of roof tides is also accompanied by a calculation of the average annual precipitation in the region. The procedure makes it possible to determine the cross-section of drainpipes in accordance with the recommendations of SP 32.13330.2012. It remains to determine their diameter in accordance with the instructions of SP 30.13330.

Some manufacturers provide their own selection tables effective system drainage Having decided on the standard size of the drainage system, all that remains is to select the elements of the kit. For example, on a straight wall for a riser you will need:

  1. Funnel groove.
  2. One elbow for lower outlet.
  3. Two elbows for connecting the pipe to the wall.
  4. One fastening for the funnel assembly and two for each pipe.

To get around the protrusions on the wall, you will need 4 more elbows and 2 pipes for connection. The ends of the gutter must be closed with plugs. The segments are arranged in such a way as to obtain a minimum of waste. Based on the number of joints, the number of connecting elements with seals is calculated.

Each gutter component is fixed with brackets at the ends with a 150mm offset. Along the remaining length, the fastenings are distributed at a distance of no more than 600 mm from each other, which corresponds to the pitch of the rafters. To install a 3-meter gutter, you need 6 brackets with a pitch of 500 mm.

Technology: how to make plastic flashings on the roof of a one-story building with your own hands?

Practice has proven that best option installation - on the cornice board using brackets. If this is not possible, then they are attached to the sheathing or rafters until the roofing material is laid. The possibility of choosing fastening materials must be clarified at the stage of system selection.

The procedure for installing plastic ebbs on the roof of a house is as follows:

  • Fix one bracket at the highest point, and fix another bracket on the opposite side of the funnel. The central axis of the gutter should be under the edge of the roof, and the outer edge should be 20-30 mm below the roof plane.
  • The extreme bracket is attached on the basis that each subsequent one is fixed 15 mm lower than the previous one. Tie a piece of twine to the fixed brackets. So the process is no more complicated than heating.
  • The location of the tee is marked with vertical lines.
  • The second bracket is attached at a distance of 150 mm from the tee line.
  • Distribute and mark the position of the fastening units.
  • Install tees and funnels, and then the remaining elements of the gutter.

For compensation purposes thermal expansion gutters are fixed with a gap of 10-15 mm. After assembling the horizontal drainage line, begin installing the vertical risers.

Fastening downspouts

There are two types of fastenings - for wooden and brick wall. In the first case, it is a V-shaped plate with 2 fixation points, and in the second, it is a single-point anchor fastening. The pipe itself in both cases is secured with a clamp.

In version with Places for drilling installation holes for fastening are pre-marked on the wall:

  • lower finishing knee;
  • for each pipe section there are two fastenings with a distance of 150 mm from the edges;
  • the upper knee that fits the wall.

When using a V-shaped fastening, a clamp with a bracket is put on each elbow and pipe, after which the vertical pipeline is assembled on the wall, and the fastenings are fixed with self-tapping screws. Before you make plastic ebbs on the roof with your own hands, it is important to remember that the connection into the socket is not made completely, but a 15 mm gap is left to stabilize thermal expansion.

To avoid obstacles in the way of drainage installation, corner elements are used for external and internal rotation of the gutter. They are fastened taking into account the general slope, going around the edge of the roof along the contour. The completion of installation should be completed by checking the operation of the system, for which water is supplied to the extreme points of the grooves. At correct assembly it should move evenly towards the funnel along the entire length of the channel.
