Instructions for self-laying and installation of mirror tiles with bevel. Luxurious interior without the help of a designer: mirror tiles Features of laying mirror tiles

  • Also, acidic (acetic) “universal” sealants should not be used. The use of these materials may lead to the destruction of the mirror amalgam.
  • If difficulties arise with leveling the surface, the tiles can be laid on plasterboard, smooth slate or plastic, which are pre-attached to the wall or ceiling.

In rooms with sudden changes in temperature and high humidity To avoid peeling and breaking of the tiles, it is recommended to lay the tiles leaving a thermal seam between the elements.

Compositions for application. It is best to use any neutral (without vinegar) sealant as glue. It is possible to use the Liquid Nails composition LN-930 Mirrors, but it is inconvenient to work with large volumes because it takes a long time to set, and the laid tiles can “crawl” under their own weight.

The most commonly used sealant is dark gray - it does not create a contrast with the mirror tile itself and has bactericidal and antifungal properties (unlike transparent), which is important for rooms with high humidity.

When laying on a neutral sealant, the seams can be grouted within 24 hours. It is advisable to grout tiles laid with mirror adhesives after a couple of days. Using a neutral sealant has another advantage - mirror tiles are glued and grouted with the same compound.

Laying mirror tiles.

1. Calculate the number of tiles in vertical and horizontal rows.

2. Mark the base on which the mirror tiles will be applied.

3. Lay out all the mirror tiles on a flat horizontal surface as they will be located after sticking.

4. If you are laying tiles end-to-end - Due to possible incompatibility ( permissible deviations are always present in size) choose a place for each tile so that all the tiles in the mirror panel fit tightly to each other.

5. Apply the entire tile to the base.

6. Wipe away any traces of glue or sealant from the mirror surface with a non-metallic spatula. Sealant residues are best removed 2-3 hours after application. To remove particularly stubborn stains, you can use Pemoxol or another fine cleaning agent.

Drilling a hole in mirror tiles is quite difficult. But if you need to display electrical or plumbing wiring on a mirror panel, you can make markings on the glass with a regular felt-tip pen or marker and contact an organization that produces glass drilling and processing or our organization.

For mirror tiles of any format, a 4 mm thick mirror is used. Note that modern ceramic tiles are in any case much thicker (8 mm or more). Therefore, the difference in the thickness of ceramic and mirror tiles is best compensated for by the most common cement-sand mortar, applying it in a suitable layer to the section of the wall where you plan to lay the mirror tiles.

  • When laying tiles, they must be kept in an upright position, leaning them against any vertical surface. Storing tiles in a stack can scratch the glass on the front of the mirror.

When laying tiles on the ceiling, in addition to gluing, you can use a standard suspended set from conventional suspended ceilings.

Buy several more tiles than you plan to use: - during transportation or application, one or two tiles can be damaged; - it is better to leave a couple of tiles in case of repair.

This instruction was compiled with the help of Sergei Aleksandrovich Spesivtsev. City of St. Petersburg.

Mirror tiles designed for room decoration. This material can be used in dry and damp areas.

Surface preparation and requirements for it.

Mirror tiles can be applied to any material that is sufficiently durable and pre-primed.

1. In order to ensure good adhesion of the tiles to the base, before application the surface must be dust-free and free from wallpaper, loose paint, chalk, and lime.

2. If necessary, apply compounds to combat efflorescence, fungi, mold, etc. on the wall.

3. Coat the base with primer. Paint or varnish with the addition of an appropriate solvent, or special compositions intended for priming surfaces can be used as a primer.

The base should be:

1. Smooth and free of bumps, sharp breaks and protrusions (roughness and potholes are allowed in small areas).

2. Smooth - only minor curvatures of the base are allowed over a large area.

3. Dry, clean.

4. Well primed.

Attention!

· Do not use adhesives to attach mirror tiles to cement based(Vetonit, Plitonite and others).

· Also, do not use acidic (acetic) “universal” sealants. The use of these materials may lead to the destruction of the mirror amalgam.

Appearance on the market building materials decorative mirror tiles made it much easier to implement the most daring and interesting design solutions. This coating is lightweight and suitable for creating an original and functional cladding on any base.

Classification of mirror tiles

Depending on the material used in the production process, decorative elements are of the following types:

  • glass - made by melting a mass of glass with mufflers and gaseous crystalline compounds;
  • metal - the polishing method is used in production;
  • plastic - panels are made of polyvinyl chloride or polystyrene by gluing a reflective film or applying paint with tiny particles of steel.

Decorative tiles made on the basis of PVC or metal are an imitation of mirror cladding, are lightweight, low cost, and flexible, but the reflectivity of the coating is worse than that of glass products.

Glass tiles are classified:

  • by purpose: wall, floor, ceiling and universal;
  • in shape: square, rectangular, mosaic (individual chips or modules), in the form of stripes, rhombus, triangle, circle and semicircle, hexagon;
  • By color scheme: the front side of the cladding can be bronze, gold, silver, blue, pink, green. In addition, the tile can be plain or with an ornament or pattern applied to it using thermal printing or sandblasting;
  • surfaces vary according to the processing method: polished, glossy or matte;
  • according to the method of edge processing: with or without bevel.

Installation of mirror cladding is identical to the process of laying ceramic tiles, but there are products that do not require the use of adhesives. Such a tile has a thickness of 4-6 mm, consists of an outer (reflective) surface and an inner (adhesive) layer covered with protective film, which must be removed before work.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the products include:

  • moisture resistance, which allows the cladding to be used in rooms with high level humidity;
  • long term operation subject to installation technology and maintenance rules;
  • fire safety (glass and hardware not subject to combustion) and environmental friendliness;
  • resistance to aggressive chemicals, easy to maintain.

Flaws:

  • the material is subject to darkening, which can be prevented by organizing ventilation in the room or regularly ventilating the room;
  • The facing elements are fragile; chips may form on the edges during transportation and installation.

When cleaning a mirror surface, regardless of the material it is made of, the use of abrasive detergents is unacceptable.

How to glue mirror tiles?

The main condition for high-quality work is the evenness of the base.

Preparing the base

  • remove old wallpaper, tiles, glue residues, plaster. Inspect the base: if there are minor defects, level the surface with plaster. In case of large differences in heights, fix sheets of plasterboard on the walls, check the evenness of the surface with a level and plumb line;
  • apply primer mixture. When renovating a room or kitchen, use a moisture-resistant composition;
  • draw vertical marking lines: it is advisable to place a solid element near the ceiling;
  • Mark the horizontal line around the perimeter of the walls, taking into account the seams. Check the markings with a level;
  • if glass tiles will be used during the installation process, install the support rail under the start line of the first row and start work from this mark.

The dimensions of the products may vary, so before laying, lay the tiles on a horizontal surface according to the desired pattern.

Preparing the adhesive mixture

Glue containing additives in the form of acidic oxides is not suitable for mirror cladding.

Glass products are fixed to the walls using a special tile adhesive intended for mounting mirrors, or other chemically neutral mixtures based on epoxy resins, silicone sealant, liquid nails:

  • Installation moment - a moisture-resistant composition containing synthetic resins, suitable for fastening mirror tiles indoors, has good adhesion and resistance to vertical shifts, is elastic;
  • Titan Professional is an adhesive based on synthetic rubber and resins, suitable for work on horizontal and vertical surfaces, moisture resistant;
  • during installation liquid nails Before installing the tiles, make additional fixation using double tape glued to the back side.

The use of cement-based compounds and universal sealants is unacceptable.

Laying tiles

  • start work from the farthest corner of the room (when covering the entire surface of the wall), laying out rows from the floor to the ceiling;
  • Apply a small layer of adhesive with a notched trowel onto the back surface of the cladding, wait a while (2-3 minutes) and carefully place the tile on the base, press lightly with your hand;
  • install the remaining products by inserting dividing crosses into the gaps between adjacent elements;
  • Having laid several rows, remove excess glue with a sponge or damp cloth;
  • cut the products with a diamond glass cutter with oil, be careful in the process: first draw a line on the surface, then run the tool along it, leaving a scratch mark, then cut the material with strong pressure;
  • one day after finishing the work, grout the joints with a rubber spatula: use the composition used for installation for this purpose, you can also use a neutral silicone sealant (gray or transparent);
  • After 5-6 hours, wash the finished coating.

When installing in rooms with high humidity, it is necessary to leave a compensation gap between the tiles of at least 1.5-2 mm.

Using mirror tiles

Bathroom finishing

In most cases, bathrooms do not have windows, which requires the presence of light sources when present in the room. You can visually increase the dimensions and improve the illumination of the room by using mirror cladding in the interior.

Decorative products must be designed for use in conditions of high humidity, otherwise the coating will fade or begin to blacken.

A bathroom ceiling lined with mirror tiles will visually increase the space. A coating that combines the design of its central part with glossy cladding and placement of tiles decorated with ornaments around the perimeter will look beautiful.

Reflective elements are suitable for finishing the protective screen of the bathtub, regardless of its opening mechanism.

If the dimensions of the room are large, you can additionally decorate pieces of furniture (cabinet doors and shower stalls) with tiles.

If desired, individual fragments of the cladding are decorated by applying designs with acrylic or stained glass paints.

Kitchen finishing

A reflective coating can not only visually change the size of a room, but also its shape, which is especially important for oblong kitchens. It is advisable that there is a window opposite the cladding - this will fill the room with light.

Beautiful design solution The wall will be decorated with a combined coating of mirror and ceramic tiles of the same format.

The manufacture of furniture facades is also possible using glass reflective surfaces.

A kitchen apron made of skinali (long panels in the shape of stripes, diamonds, squares) creates a decorative bridge between the wall surfaces; The same technique is suitable if you need to make a transition from one type of material (or color) to another.

Choose facing elements that have moisture-resistant properties.

Living room decoration

Small rooms are decorated with mirrored cabinet doors - this deprives the furniture of monumentality, heaviness and the room does not seem cluttered.

On a section of the wall, small elements are laid out in the form of an interesting pattern or medallion, additionally decorated with molding.

The surface above the sofa or armchairs, near the fireplace can also be decorated with mirrors.

A diamond-shaped wallpaper pattern or a similar parquet installation will go perfectly with a wall tiled with the same shape.

If there are arches, niches or columns in the living room, a small mirror mosaic will give them airiness and originality.

Public premises

Decorative cladding of this type also looks harmonious in offices, but its placement in public spaces should be fragmentary, for example, cladding the center of the ceiling and decorating a small panel on the wall.

The tiles are suitable for decorating ceilings and columns shopping centers, hotels and restaurants.

Passage areas

Mirror cladding of the entire surface of the wall and niches will expand the space of the corridor or hall.

You can “increase” the height of the room by laying decorative elements on the ceiling.

Decorating furniture with tiles is appropriate not only in the bathroom or kitchen; in the hallway it is also functional and beautiful.

You can diversify the boring interior of the passage area by placing mirror cladding on the wall with a pattern on the surface (or a picture)

Features of working with ceiling tiles

  • before laying on wooden surface be sure to treat the base with an antiseptic compound and primer;
  • it is easier and more convenient to fix the cladding on plasterboard frame: leveling the ceiling with putty will lead to higher costs of work and greater labor costs;
  • installation is carried out in two ways: with screws or gluing. When laying on drywall, adhesive must be applied around the perimeter and in the center of the tile. Fixation with screws requires complex work for drilling elements, which is associated with the risk of damage to the material.

Interior with mirror tiles

The ability to visually expand the dimensions is relevant for an elongated room: placing the tiles on a long wall will correct such disproportion.

Achieve simultaneous visual increase rooms in width and height can be achieved by laying elements on one wall diagonally or in diamond shapes.

Covering the entire ceiling surface large room tiles create a feeling of emptiness and coldness; in such cases, it is advisable to lay only in the center or perimeter with the arrangement of spotlights.

The desire to make an apartment or house cozy and bright can easily be realized with the help of mirror tiles. Refrain from covering too large areas: reflective elements can be irritating to the psyche and cause anxiety, therefore, trying to create original design, keep it in moderation and do not overuse the number of reflective surfaces.

at 23:59Best for styling mirror tiles will do a special tile adhesive that is used for mirrors or a neutral, vinegar-free sealant. And do not forget to clean, level and thoroughly prime the wall before laying the tiles.

at 7:38 Cement-based glue definitely cannot be used, it eats up the mirror coating. Liquid nails, especially on the ceiling, are also not suitable - while the composition sets, the tile may slide or collapse under its own weight. Only glue for mirrors, and it is more reliable to attach each tile to the ceiling by analogy with suspended ceilings. A neutral sealant is for grouting joints.

at 1:23 Thanks for the advice. To be honest, I had no idea that there was a special glue for such tiles. This glue is probably expensive? But I'll look for it anyway. And the seams can be sealed with anything other than sealant.

at 16:29 As far as I know, this finishing material The mirror coating is applied to the other side of the glass.
If chemically active cement + water gets on the mirror coating, most likely the mirror coating will stop “working”. Therefore, it is better to use glue, or fix it mechanically.

Mirror tiles with bevel (photo): advantages and disadvantages, installation features

Muscovites, decorators, came to us in Siberia (they were busy decorating luxury housing), they had a problem, they were missing about 20 mirror tiles. I made it from a Belgian waterproof mirror and polished the edge. They were satisfied. In 1999. I put domestic tiles 150*150 mm in size in my bathroom, and placed mirrors measuring 303*303 mm along the perimeter interspersed with the tiles (size of 4 tiles + seam). I used a regular domestic 5 mm mirror, just sanded the edge. To protect the amalgam, I covered it the reverse side is Kuzbas varnish. I glued the mirror tiles with Garant mastic, and sealed the seams with regular grout. I changed the apartment two years ago, everything looked in its original form. The new owners liked the bathroom. The mirrors around the perimeter visually expanded the volume. Someone probably crossed paths with this topic.

The topic is relevant, but for single orders 2-10 tiles or the price is plane
or no one will process the edge.
the cost of processing is several times higher than the material
It’s easier to cut the mirror without finishing the edge and glue it

About mirror tiles.
Due to the fact that for some time I sold plumbing fixtures (pipe, fittings, etc., etc.) I have acquaintances with finishers, and with individual workers, and with teams - so, both of them, they say, “give me samples , and even better, give me at least half a meter of glued tiles right away to show the client,” I note that it didn’t immediately cause a negative reaction (and our people are simple, they send it at a time), they say “you need to try and promote”), In fact, this is what I sculpt a longitudinal-transverse table for.

I completely agree, creating “fashion” takes a lot of time and health. But as a rule, the one who starts skims the cream.

p_vasgen 13.10.2009 23:57

raddan, Zhenya, it’s trivial to apply ico amalgam without a hardener, it sticks - don’t worry, mother, but only without a hardener, maybe it will work, at least on chipboard where the glue didn’t fit well, it’s so ingrained that you can’t tear it off...

How to glue mirror tiles

The use of mirror tiles is now widespread, partly because mirror walls visually expand the space, hide defects, create false niches, raise and lower the ceiling, and can also be used to create various elegant effects. Mirror tiles are available in both simple version, and with various patterns or relief finishes.

A room in which mirror tiles are used looks unusual and creates the impression of depth and radiance; moreover, the gluing process does not take much time and can be done even by a non-professional. First of all, you need to decide what to glue the mirror tiles onto. If it is glass coated with amalgam, Mirror sealant is suitable, which can firmly attach the mirror to any surface.

In other cases, other sealants, glass glue or “liquid nails” are used. Long-term adhesive should not be used, as this will require the installation of additional supports. Before gluing the mirror tiles, the wall surface is carefully prepared: the old coating and paint are removed and thoroughly sanded; if necessary, the wall is leveled, because the mirror surface must be perfect.

Standard mirror slabs are produced in sizes 25*25, but if you plan to cover a large wall, it is advisable to purchase tiles bigger size, which is sold in any hardware store. Next, you need to make a drawing that will accurately indicate the position of the tile: here the designer’s imagination may vary. Mirror tiles are placed horizontally and diagonally, or even randomly.

Final preparations: draw a line with chalk on the prepared surface and check its direction using a plumb line or level.

Mirror panel. How to stick.

How to glue tiles correctly so that the mirror wall looks even, and the tiles themselves have equal gaps between each other and do not “run into” each other? The tiles are laid sequentially from bottom corner walls to the top, and the back side of each tile is coated with glue or “liquid nails”.

It is advisable to check each row with a level so as not to lay the tiles crookedly; it is almost impossible to re-glue an already finished wall without damaging the material.

How to lay mirror tiles or install a mirror panel

How to lay mirror tiles

Tiles with a mirror surface are a new word in decorating walls and ceilings in an apartment house. Surprisingly, laying mirror tiles with your own hands will not be difficult, provided, of course, that you follow certain recommendations.

In addition to the fact that mirror tiles are an excellent decorative material, their surface is also resistant to various detergents and to moisture. Well, thanks to the ability of 95% light reflection, mirror tiles placed in the bathroom can not only make it visually larger, but also lighter.

How to lay mirror tiles will be discussed in this article.

How to lay mirror tiles

And although mirror tiles are not afraid of moisture and cleaning agents, you should not forget that this is a rather fragile material, which must be handled very carefully. This is due, first of all, to the small thickness of mirror tiles, which is almost 2 times less than the thickness of ordinary ceramics.

Therefore, the base, before laying mirror tiles on it, must be more carefully prepared than in a number of individual cases:

1. To do this, remove plaster, glue and wallpaper from it. Sometimes, when the old finishing material does not hold up well, you even have to scrape the wall down to concrete or brick, depending on what material it is made of.

2. The cleaned base is then leveled to the ideal level. If you do not level the surface before laying mirror tiles on it, then the effect created by this decorative material you can forget.

3. After all the above procedures, the wall is primed. As a result, the base, before laying mirror tiles on it, should be as smooth and well-primed as possible.

Laying mirror tiles on the wall

Before laying mirror tiles on the wall, carefully select adhesive composition designed specifically for these purposes. It is important to know that cement-based glue is absolutely not suitable for this.

When choosing adhesive for mirror tiles, you also need to be careful with various types sealants, the main component of which is vinegar, since it can destroy the amalgam of the mirror surface.

IN in this case, the ideal adhesive option for mirror tiles is a special composition designed specifically for working with mirrors. Mirror tiles can also be glued using liquid nails or neutral types of sealants. By the way, you can read about how to use liquid nails in another article on the website http://samastroyka.ru/.

Laying mirror tiles on the wall is carried out in the following steps:

1. First, the surfaces are marked. It is advisable, in order to get a complete picture of how the mirror tiles on the wall will ultimately look, to first lay them out on the floor in the desired shape.

2. After marking, the mirror tiles are laid on the wall, and it begins in the traditional format - from the bottom up. When gluing tiles, it is very important not to deviate from the existing markings, continuing to glue the material from the corner, along horizontal rows.

When laying mirror tiles, small gaps should be made to help compensate for the expansion of the material during its operation. This is especially true for rooms where there are constant temperature changes.

Mirror tiles should be stored in a vertical position, this will protect its surface from damage. If you need to cut mirror tiles, the best tool For these purposes, a diamond glass cutter is used.

Well, read about how to cut glass correctly in the following review of a construction magazine.

Ways to glue mirror tiles

Mirror tiles have become popular not so long ago. Many designers and finishers immediately understood its capabilities and take it into account when designing. How to lay mirror tiles video material for builders. With this material you can realize those bold ideas that were not possible before.

How to glue “mirror tiles” in the bathroom (renovation)

What to glue on - glue for mirror tiles

Cement-based adhesive destroys the mirror amalgam (reflective layer), so special adhesives are used for these purposes. Here are the most acceptable options:

TYTAN for mirrors is a specialized composition based on synthetic rubber and resins. Designed directly for gluing mirrors of any type and size to most pre-prepared surfaces: concrete, plaster, gypsum fiber board, plasterboard, wood materials. Mounting adhesive for mirror mosaics and tiles TYTAN does not damage the reflective surface, sets quickly, provides high joint strength, is not afraid of high humidity, and forms an elastic seam. TYTAN glue is available in standard tubes for a gun and costs about 200 rubles.

Loctite Mirror (Loctite for mirrors) PL 520- elastic mounting adhesive for reliable fastening of mirror tiles. It has high adhesion and is suitable for cladding various surfaces: wood, concrete, plastered and painted walls, gypsum fiber board, gypsum board, metal. Does not contain aggressive solvents that can destroy mirror amalgam. Standard tube of Loctite Mirror PL 520 adhesive (290 ml) under mounting gun costs about 150-200 rubles.

Simson Mirrocol is a special elastic adhesive for mounting all types of mirrors on concrete and plaster bases, metal surfaces, tree, ceramic tiles. Simson Mirrocol is made on the basis of MS polymers (modified silicone) and does not contain isocyanates or solvents that can damage the mirror amalgam. Glue does not have unpleasant odor, suitable for cladding vertical and inclined surfaces. A standard tube (290 ml) for a mounting gun costs about 350 rubles.

Moment Installation Adhesive for mirrors MP-50- high-strength moisture-resistant composition based on synthetic resin especially for fixing mirrors and laying mirror tiles indoors. Does not damage the amalgam substrate of the mirror, provides light and reliable installation on different surfaces(concrete, wood, plaster, gypsum fiber board, gypsum board, metal and painted surfaces). The MP-50 is available in standard pistol cartridges and costs about 250 rubles.

How to glue beveled mirror tiles

The work of laying tiles begins with preparing the base (walls). It is necessary to clean the surface from remnants of wallpaper, peeling plaster and paint, and remove all protrusions and bumps. After this, you should check the evenness of the plane of the walls.

A level base is a prerequisite, otherwise all surface defects will be visible at the joints of the tiles. Minor defects can be eliminated with plaster; more serious irregularities can be dealt with using plasterboard.

Many glue manufacturers recommend treating a clean, prepared surface with a primer (recommendations for choosing the composition are indicated in the instructions).

If the installation of beveled tiles is carried out in a room with high humidity, we strongly recommend treating the walls with special antifungal compounds to prevent the development of mold. Work on installing the tiles begins only after the primer has completely dried.

  • glue (any of the above or another neutral adhesive-sealant);
  • liquid nail gun;
  • double-sided construction tape;
  • roulette;
  • level;
  • long ruler or rule;
  • rags (clean, dry rags).

The process of laying beveled tiles consists of several stages:

Marking. Only a professional with extensive experience can perfectly evenly glue beveled mirror tiles blindly. We strongly recommend that beginning craftsmen draw out the wall according to the size of the tiles.

It is much more convenient to work on a ready-made pattern on the wall. If the room experiences temperature changes, it is necessary to leave a so-called thermal joint between the tiles (two millimeters will be enough).

This gap will protect the cladding from damage caused by thermal expansion of the base material.

Laying. The glue is applied to the tile, which after a few minutes of exposure (usually 2-3 minutes) is placed in the desired place and pressed lightly for a few seconds.

To prevent the tiles from slipping, you can use double-sided tape(two strips of 3 centimeters are enough for one tile), however, please note that in this case, adjusting the position will be impossible.

Grout. After 3-4 hours, the joints are grouted. For these purposes you can use the same glue. After the grout has dried, the lining is cleaned of traces of glue using a rubber spatula.

Particularly stubborn stains can be removed using a rag and cleaning agent.

If the entire wall is covered, the tiles will need to be trimmed. A regular glass cutter is suitable for these purposes. If you do not have the appropriate skills, you can use the services of glass cutting companies.

Laying mirror mosaics

As in the case of beveled mirror tiles, work on laying mosaics begins with preparing the base (see instructions above).

To cover walls with mirror tiles you will need the following tools and materials:

  • cement-free glue, mounting gun;
  • roulette;
  • marker or construction pencil;
  • level;
  • long ruler;
  • rubber spatula for grouting joints;
  • rags.

The process of laying mirror mosaics also consists of several stages:

  1. Marking. Horizontal markings are made along which rows of mosaic mirrors will be laid;
  2. Applying glue. This is a very important moment, since glue must be applied to each of the tiles on the grid. It is important not to overdo it, otherwise it will be difficult to remove excess glue from small seams before grouting;
  3. Laying mosaics. The canvas with mosaic mirrors is applied in place and pressed evenly. At this stage it is important to check that each tile fits snugly against the wall. Apply the rest of the tiles in the same way;
  4. Grout. After the glue has completely dried, the joints are grouted.

During installation, you need to work with the tiles very carefully so as not to scratch the surface.

If you need to drill a hole in a tile to bring out a wire for a lamp, etc., it is better to mark the place with a marker and use the services of the nearest glass company (they are in every area).

It's cheaper and easier than buying expensive drill on glass, and a beginner is unlikely to be able to drill through a mirror the first time.

It is advisable to immediately buy several more tiles than the calculations show. Firstly, the fragile material can be damaged during transportation or installation. In addition, it is advisable to have a couple of tiles in case of repairs.
