Sormovo shipbuilders laid down a universal dry cargo ship for the Caspian region. Nevsky Shipyard laid down the second dry cargo vessel of the RSD59 project. Dry cargo ships of the RSD 59 project.

On May 25, 2017, the Nevsky Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Plant laid down the keel of the second multi-purpose dry cargo vessel with a deadweight of 7,500 tons, project RSD59 (building No. 592).

The customer is PJSC State Leasing Transport Company, the lessee is the shipping company Pola Rise. In total, the Nevsky Shipyard has ordered five multi-purpose dry cargo vessels of the RSD59 project and another five have been ordered to the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard.

The RSD59 project was developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

Vessels of the RSD59 project, in accordance with the classification adopted by the Bureau, belong to the “Volgo-Don max” class and have the maximum dimensions possible for VDSK.

Vessels of the series can be used for transporting general, bulk, container, timber, grain and bulky cargo, dangerous goods of classes 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 IC RID and Appendix B of the Air Force Code in the Caspian Sea, and also in the Mediterranean, Black, Baltic, White, North Seas, including voyages around Europe and to the Irish Sea in winter.

The new dry cargo project RSD59, which is made in “super-full” lines with two dry cargo holds, one of which has a record length for the Volgo-Don Max, is the successor to the three-hold series of RSD49 vessels.

Advantages of the RSD59 project compared to the best of the previously built bulk carriers "Volgo-Don Max" of the RSD49 class:

  • presence of a long hold L= 77.35 m (on a vessel of project RSD49 L= 52 m), allowing the transportation of CTG, which is relevant for the market of the countries of the Caspian region;
  • the hold height is 620 mm (9000 mm) higher than on the RSD49 project vessel, which allows the transportation of containers up to 9.6 feet high - “high cube containers” (3 such containers in height);
  • deadweight at a draft of 3.60 m is 5209 tons (for the RSD49 project - 4507 tons), which is 702 tons more;
  • deadweight at a draft of 4.20 m is 6831 tons (for the RSD49 project - 6021 tons), which is 810 tons more;
  • deadweight at a maximum draft of 4.50 m is 7542 tons (for the RSD49 project at a maximum draft of 4.70 m 7143 tons), which is 399 tons more;
  • removable hatch covers are installed. Opening and closing of each section is carried out using a special gantry crane, which is stowed in the area of the bow bulkhead of the residential superstructure;
  • movement and controllability are provided by two propellers (better maneuverability in narrow spaces, more cargo space due to the reduction in the size of the vehicle).

The presence of a large hold with a length of 77.35 m, which allows the transportation of oversized project cargo on direct flights from Europe to the Caspian Sea, which should significantly affect the overall financial result of the work.

The project was developed for class KM (*) Ice2 R2 AUT1-ICS of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and meets all the requirements of international conventions in force at the time of laying down the vessel.

At the same time, in terms of displacement, the RSD59 project vessels are currently the largest dry cargo vessels that meet the dimensions of the Volga-Don Shipping Canal.

With a draft of 3.60 m characteristic of the VDSK, the deadweight in the river is about 5200 tons, the highest deadweight in the sea with a draft of 4.50 m is about 7500 tons.

The maximum length is 141.0 m, overall width is 16.98 m, side height is 6.00 m.

Cargo hold capacity is 11,400 cubic meters. m.

Both holds are box-shaped, smooth-walled, convenient for carrying out cargo work and stowing cargo without trimming. Dimensions: length x width x height 77.35 x 12.25 x 9.0 m and 27.03 x 12.25 x 9.0 m.

The operating speed is 10.5 knots.

The main engines are two medium-speed diesel engines with a power of 1200 kW each, running on heavy fuel with a viscosity of up to 380 cSt. Heavy fuel reserves are stored in deep tanks in the area of the forward bulkhead of the MoD, separated from seawater by double bottoms and sides.

The autonomy of navigation at sea is 20 days.

Crew - 10 people, seats - 14. There is a sanitary cabin and a cabin for the pilot.

The estimated service life of the ship's hull is 24 years. The second bottom is designed for a distributed load intensity of 12.0 t/sq.m. m, as well as to work with a grab with a lifting capacity of 16 tons.

First order to the plant

In January 1939, a team of workers at the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard completed the manufacture of the hulls of two offshore combined dredgers with a capacity of 750 m3 of soil per hour. The production of such ships was mastered in the USSR for the first time.

The labor victory of the Sormovichi people was won on the eve of a significant event: in 1939, it was 90 years since the founding of the plant.

On December 4, 1939, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was issued: “In commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Gorky plant “Krasnoe Sormovo” and for outstanding services in shipbuilding and mechanical engineering, award the plant “Krasnoe Sormovo” with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

Everything for Victory

The Krasnoye Sormovo plant made a significant contribution to the sacred cause of Victory. For a ship-manufacturing plant to switch to tank production is a technically very difficult task. In harsh times, when the front was approaching close to Moscow, the Sormovsky plant was turned into one of the most important material and technical bases for the country's defense and became the largest arsenal of the Soviet Army. The factory workers withstood all the difficulties and trials of the war with dignity, supplying the front with more than 13 thousand T-34 tanks, 23 submarines, as well as 1.5 million shells for Katyushas and thousands of tons of other ammunition.

For services to the Motherland, for the successful completion of government tasks during the Great Patriotic War, the plant staff was awarded the Order of Lenin (1943) and the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree (1945).

Another valuable relic reminds of the labor feat of the Sormovichi people - the Red Banner of the State Defense Committee, left to the plant for eternal storage, which during the war years was awarded to the Krasnoye Sormovo plant for 33 months in a row for high labor results.

ON PEACEFUL RAILS

The Great Patriotic War ended, the Soviet people returned to peaceful work.

From the first days of the post-war five-year plan, the production of various parts for steam locomotives and carriages resumed and took on a wide scale. The Sormovo plant becomes the country's only supplier of carriage wheels, and for agriculture - a supplier of gas generating units and spare parts for tractors.

On the eve of the 100th anniversary of Krasny Sormovo, over 2,000 innovators and old production workers were awarded the “Excellence in Socialist Competition” badges, and more than 180 metallurgical shop workers were awarded the title “Best Metallurgist”. For services to the Motherland and the Soviet people and in connection with the 100th anniversary of its founding, the plant was awarded the second Order of Lenin. This was the fourth order on the plant's banner.
