Veranda 2 floors. Enclosed veranda on the second floor of the house

If there is a door on the second floor of the house to exit to the balcony, then you can build a more cozy and comfortable place to relax in this place - a terrace. The advantages of such an extension compared to a balcony are obvious.

The area of the building is several times larger than the area of the balcony, which allows you to put a table and chairs, a sofa on it, and even have a barbecue on the terrace.

Design features of terraces on the second floor

A veranda on the second floor or an open terrace is a summer area for leisure, which can serve as a living room, dining room, or relaxation room. From it you can enjoy the surrounding views, drink tea with friends and admire sunsets. Of course, it will only improve the house. The veranda is usually made with glazing, which allows it to be used in winter time as a technical room.
However, when designing the construction of a terrace on the second floor, you need to understand some design features structures. There are 2 main types of terraces:

  • which are attached to the wall of the house and stand on additional supports, while under them there is an open space or another lower terrace;
  • which are located above other rooms (residential or technical), so their floor plays the role of a flat roof.

Stages of construction of a canopy terrace:

  • a support beam is attached to the facade of the house at the required height;
  • metal or wooden supports on a concrete foundation;
  • a longitudinal beam is welded onto the supports;
  • Transverse beams (usually pine beams) are attached to the logs and longitudinal beam, creating a supporting frame;
  • covered with a board;
  • fencing is installed.

A special feature of the terrace located above the room is the high-quality waterproofing of the floor, errors in the installation of which threaten the spread of dampness, fungus and drips inside the room. The peculiarity of this design is that it is constantly subjected to negative impact moisture on both sides of the ceiling: evaporation acts on the ceiling from below, precipitation acts on the ceiling from above.

Therefore, when creating a terrace on the second floor wooden house It wouldn’t hurt to think about building a canopy in order to minimize the amount of precipitation falling on it. The two most common options (if the terrace on the second floor is not covered by the roof of the house, which is designed before construction) is a tented canopy or protective structure made of polycarbonate.

To cover the floor of any terrace, a special decking board is mainly used, which has already passed the test of time. It is usually laid on piers and in gazebos - that is, wherever the coating is exposed to sun and rain, snow and frost. This board retains its operational properties in the most extreme conditions. The decking board consists of polyethylene and sawdust. She took natural beauty from wood, and durability from polyethylene. Thanks to its light weight, the load on the façade will remain minimal.

To create a fence, you can purchase special fencing elements for the terrace, which will give it modern look. To create classic design you can use forged parts.

Features of the construction of a terrace on the second floor

The design of the terrace on the second floor requires the presence of a slope for water drainage - otherwise moisture can penetrate into the ceiling structure and destroy it from the inside. If the base of the terrace is a flat concrete floor slab, then the slope is performed on its surface cement mortar. The slope level should be 1.5-2%. Such a slope is almost invisible, and rain streams will calmly flow towards the drain or drain.

Regardless of whether the room under the terrace is heated or technical, insulation of the floor of the site must be carried out without fail. Expanded polystyrene 10 cm thick (above unheated room) or 15 cm (above the heated area) will reduce heat loss and at the same time protect the ceiling from temperature changes. The concrete ramp must first be covered with a vapor barrier film.

Protecting the terrace from precipitation

Waterproofing – important element construction of a terrace floor pie. The waterproofing material is laid on top of the insulation. Market of modern waterproofing materials very big. The selected material is laid in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. It is important to follow one rule: roll material laid along the direction of the slope. Additional protection should be provided to the wall in contact with the terrace floor. It is lined to a height of 15-20 cm, and the upper edge of the cladding is treated with sealant or silicone.

Temperature changes can destroy flooring terraces. To prevent this from happening, you need to take care of installing expansion joints around the perimeter of the site along the walls. If the terrace is spacious, you can divide its entire area into segments, cut expansion joints and fill them with elastic sealant. It’s even better to take care of their presence when pouring the screed: in stores you can find ready-made compensation profiles that remain in the screed.

When installing a balustrade, you also need to ensure that the waterproofing layer is not damaged. The place where the column enters the screed must be filled with waterproofing mass. To further protect the joint, you can install thrust bearings.

The floor of the terrace must be strong and durable: people will walk on it, furniture will stand on it, and it will protect the underlying layers from moisture and UV rays. The terrace can be finished with rough porcelain stoneware, gres tiles, stamped decorative concrete, decking boards, wood-polymer composite. For gluing, a frost-resistant elastic solution is used.
The terrace on the second floor, built in compliance with all technical standards, will delight you for decades.

If the foundation of the house allows you to build a second floor, then you should consider creating an open terrace. The most difficult thing is to properly do the waterproofing between the veranda itself and the first floor. From our article you will learn how to build a terrace on the second floor and what you will need for this.

Pros and cons

The advantages of a terrace include:

  1. Universal application. The veranda can be used as a living room, as a recreation room, and in the warm season as a dining room.
  2. A cheap method of increasing the living space of a private house.

If you glaze the terrace, it can also be used in winter. Now they produce special collapsible frames, which are installed only when necessary. When warm weather sets in, such a structure can be removed in just a few hours.

This terrace has its own nuances

To the disadvantages open terraces on the second floor include:

  • the need to strengthen the foundation of the house, since the second floor is an additional load on the foundation;
  • seasonal use: winter without additional insulation You won’t be able to use the veranda, but you will have to remove the snow regularly;
  • the door leading to the veranda from the second floor should be installed securely and not easily broken into (an open second floor is an easy option for burglars to enter the house unnoticed).

Design subtleties

Floor open veranda must be installed under minimum slope(up to 1 cm per 2 m length) so that water does not accumulate there. Regardless of what the floor covering will be installed from, a waterproofing and thermal insulation layer must be created underneath it with a drain along the edge of the structure to prevent moisture from entering the interfloor covering.

It is recommended to make the frame for the terrace from wood - it is light, correct processing wood will last no less metal structures. A high side must be installed along the edge, which is best made of metal (profiles with polycarbonate sheathing are also suitable).

Phased construction

The first thing you should take care of is strengthening interfloor structure. If previously ordinary ones were used there wooden beams, then they should be replaced either with new ones (beam 150 mm by 150 mm), or formed from metal rails. Already from above they can be closed either wood boards, or in general concrete slab(hollow, it can also be made from hydroconcrete, which does not absorb moisture at all, but is expensive).

Next, waterproofing is installed. Thermal insulation is only required if there is a living space on the ground floor directly below the terrace. If there is a garage or, for example, a boiler room, then you can do without it.

Then the logs are installed. Do not forget that the floor of the terrace should be located with a minimum slope towards the edge, as pitched roof. This will allow moisture to drain directly into the drain. Accordingly, several joists on one side should be processed with an electric planer to a depth of 1 cm.

If you plan to lay thermal insulation, then the thickness of the logs should be at least 10 cm - this will allow a layer of mineral wool or basalt slab to be laid between them. This material is the best option thermal insulation.

Don't forget to follow the construction instructions

How to install the side? Optimal and inexpensive option– on metal corners made of steel, at least 3 mm thick. They are secured to the base either with bolts and anchors (in concrete) or by welding (for a metal base). The corners themselves are wooden or plastic panels They are fastened with ordinary rivets or screws, depending on their thickness. A minimum gap of 3–5 mm should be made between the floor and the panels so that water can drain out through the gap.

To insulate the terrace floor, it is recommended to use several layers of ordinary roofing felt - they are in no way inferior to more expensive hydrotextiles. If the ceiling between floors is made of concrete, then it is recommended to punch grooves (grooves) along it, in which all the moisture will accumulate and from there be discharged to the drain.

All wood that will be used in the construction of the terrace must be treated with a waterproof antiseptic primer, topped with linseed oil, which protects much better than ordinary drying oil. The top of the wood is either coated with a layer of varnish or painted. By the way, it is better to give preference oil paint– it will additionally protect the wood from fungus and mold.

Waterproofing must be installed not only on the floor of the future veranda itself, but also on the interfloor ceiling on the street side. It is through these places that moisture can penetrate inside. If concrete begins to actively absorb moisture, at the first frost, cracks will appear on the slab, since moisture expands when freezing.

Thus, arrange a terrace on the second floor country house- a good and inexpensive idea. The main thing is not to make mistakes with waterproofing, otherwise after a few years you will have to completely change the interfloor covering.

Various layouts - residential and intended for summer recreation - occupy more than half of our catalog. Among 1700 ready architectural solutions All building materials are presented: timber, brick, gas blocks, frame and monolithic concrete.

Features of a modern terrace

It is difficult to imagine a country cottage without an open or partially enclosed area for outdoor recreation. This is a favorite place to relax and receive guests.
