The interior of the room is antique. Vintage style design

Designer Anna Clark

This apartment is located in the historical center of Moscow, in a building built in 1911 with a beautiful front facade. For a long time it was communal, and the condition of the premises at the time of purchase left much to be desired: a large number of doors and small rooms, a long narrow corridor, smoked walls and ceiling in the kitchen.

Hall. Table lamp Arteriors (Ravi Lamp), floor (in the entire apartment - solid board, bog oak)

However, according to the designer, it was impossible not to notice its potential: high (3.4 meters) ceilings, twelve (!) large windows facing both sides of the apartment (to a picturesque alley and a quiet courtyard overlooking the temple).

Master bedroom. The bed is made according to the designer’s sketches, manufactured by Brand Furniture Laboratory (tinted oak, brass insert, Alcantara headboard), Dovlet House carpet, nightstand- Jan Cavelle, chandelier - Davidts Stefane bedspreads, pillows - A-Decor

In some rooms, the original stucco molding on the ceiling was even preserved, but, unfortunately, it was not possible to restore it. So before you start renovation work, the interior partitions were completely dismantled, all finishing was removed from the ceilings and the floor was completely replaced.

Removing the old layer of plaster revealed a beautiful arched window design. Window frames replaced with new ones, preserving the historical form of devitrification. Wide window slopes emphasized with stucco.

Guest room. Loffilab couch, table with marble top (Rosso Luana) made according to the designer's sketches, Vaughan chandelier, A-Decor curtains, Dovlet House carpet, Laura Ashley wallpaper

The designer was faced with the task of creating new spacious rooms of the correct shape and filling them with light as much as possible.

« New flat had to be planned as conveniently as possible for the life of its new owners,” says Anna. – Walking through a small hallway past the plumbing blocks, we find ourselves in the heart of the apartment - the living room with a cozy bay window and fireplace.

Their height was visually increased due to false transoms. As for the interior, the designer sought to make it echo the historical facade of the building itself. The decor was conceived as classic and at the same time comfortable for a modern person. It was decided to put dark smoked oak on the floor; it gave the interior a sense of splendor.

According to Anna, textiles and light are those things that can either “save” the interior or hopelessly ruin it. “That’s why I choose them very carefully,” admits the designer. – Natural French and English fabrics were used in this interior, and the lighting was ordered from the USA and England.

Antique furniture: a choice for true connoisseurs of beauty. The appearance of antique and semi-antique furniture in the interior of a home occurs in various ways: someone purchased something they liked, someone inherited it.

But in order for antique furniture to look in harmony with other pieces of furniture in the interior of the room and correspond to its status, it is necessary to take into account the main rules for placing antique furniture.

Antique furniture in a modern interior

Most of the antique furniture available in this market segment is less than one hundred and fifty years old. It is extremely rare to find specimens from the 18th century. Rare antique furniture from the 16th century is almost never found.

True connoisseurs of the beauty of antique furniture and professional collectors most often purchase antique wooden furniture at auctions.

And for amateurs and inexperienced collectors, it is better to contact a specialized store that sells antiques to receive professional advice from the seller and the opportunity to look at a future purchase.

The main criterion when choosing antique furniture is neither age nor style direction.

It is important to remember that in this interior everything should be in harmony with other pieces of furniture, and not look out of place and awkward in the interior ensemble.

The very presence of antique furniture and semi-antique wood furniture makes it stand out in the general environment and attracts with its unusual and unique accent.

Therefore, the arrangement of antique furniture and antique wooden furniture should correspond to the style direction of the room.

After all, it often happens that the appearance of one piece of antique furniture in the house leads to the desire of the owner of the antique furniture to purchase several more antique elements.

The main thing in this case is to make sure that there is no confusion in directions, but is it possible to combine straight and formal chairs with a magnificent baroque chest of drawers?

Antique Furniture Styles

For a professional collector, one glance at a photo of antique furniture is enough to determine whether it belongs to the trend, what materials and types of wood the furniture is made from.

You can highlight the main styles of antiques. Numerous decorations and decorations combined with splendor are characteristic of Baroque furniture. The fashion for such furniture was in vogue in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Rococo style, somewhat similar to Baroque, is characterized by airiness and lightness of lines with asymmetrical decorations. The style of classicism, in contrast to the majestic rococo, is characterized by functionality, symmetry, and the nobility of straight lines.

For palace furniture of the 18th century. Characteristic is the Empire style combination of decor ancient Greece with spears, lions, sphinxes and straight and simple lines. Clear pragmatism and environmental friendliness combined with plant patterns and ornate lines define Art Nouveau furniture.

Art Deco furniture, created no more than a hundred years ago and of great value among professional antique dealers, is characterized by simplicity of lines and made from precious wood.

The manufacture of such furniture is characterized by the use of exclusive materials. This type of furniture was used to decorate liners and rooms in expensive hotels. Antique furniture and the manufacture of semi-antique furniture in this direction are in high demand.

The venerable age of antiques requires special conditions for their maintenance and care. For antique furniture, direct sunlight, proximity to heat sources, and humidity exceeding sixty percent are unacceptable.

There is a financial component to keep in mind when owning antique furniture. After all, antiques in themselves generally do not represent much value. It is easy to purchase at numerous flea markets and auctions.

A significant part of the price is determined by the degree of restoration of the antique. Only restoration, which accounts for a significant part of the cost, can guarantee a magnificent appearance and safety. Owning antique and antique furniture will create a beautiful interior and is a smart investment.

The value of such furniture will only increase every year. And perhaps in years to come, true connoisseurs will give a lot to buy your chair or table. And if you unexpectedly become the owner, do not throw it away or sell it. Carry out restoration and save rare furniture until better times.

The times of scarcity, when buying every piece of furniture or accessory to decorate an apartment was considered a great success, are long gone, and today everyone can decorate their home in full accordance with the desired style. Some people prefer minimalism, which does not clutter the apartment with unnecessary details, while others want to create an original and individual interior in their home, replete with unusual elements and antiques.

Antiques are a great tool for creating a vintage style. It has been used by both designers and apartment owners for many decades.

Antiques are the most effective tool for creating a vintage style. For several decades now, it has been eagerly used by both designers and apartment owners. But in order to choose the right interior items, you need to consider which ancient style trends are used today to decorate modern homes.

Imitation of ancient eras

There are several vintage styles, in which it is almost impossible to use original antique samples, which are usually a necessary component of such interiors. We are talking about ancient Greek, Egyptian and Roman styles. All the small quantities of preserved antiques that were used in everyday life by people living in those distant times are museum exhibits.

Figure 1. Egyptian style in the interior involves the predominance of geometric shapes, as well as natural themes.

To recreate these style solutions, furniture and accessories that imitate rarities are used. In European countries, where antique styles are a fairly popular design direction, such things are quite common.

What are the characteristics of ancient styles? If we talk about Egypt, then these are all kinds of geometric regular figures with a predominance of cubic shapes, smooth polished surfaces, numerous bas-reliefs with natural themes. In addition, the ancient Egyptian direction is characterized by papyri, mosaics, interior elements made of marble or inlaid with metals. Accessories with hieroglyphs and enamels will look great. Recreate the spirit ancient country Stylized vases, figurines and even palm trees in pots will help. An example of this interior looks like this (Fig. 1).

When creating an ancient Greek style, it is necessary to use structurally simple, but ergonomic, very elegant furniture with many unusual decorations. As is known from the descriptions, the ancient Greeks used very beautiful furniture, which was often made of mahogany, inlaid and trimmed with marble and gold. Despite the apparent simplicity of the designs, such elements give the interior sophistication and originality.

Figure 2. The Roman style uses rich paintings and accessories, various mosaics, and plaster.

Also Greek style characterized by the following details:

  • light fabrics in light colors;
  • marble sculptures and figurines;
  • many ceramic items with stylized Greek designs: vessels, vases and amphorae;
  • floors made of natural stone or its imitation;
  • classic columns;
  • bas-reliefs.

The ceiling in this interior can be decorated with a fresco or tension structure with photo printing under the fresco.

The Roman ancient style originates in Greece, so the influence of Hellenism is widely reflected here. Despite this, the Roman style direction also has completely unique elements. For example, bronze furniture, which could only be used by the elite of society. Furniture made of wood, iron or marble will also look harmonious.

To recreate the spirit Ancient Rome Various mosaics, painted plaster, complex rich paintings and accessories inlaid with gold, silver and other metals are used. In order to characterize this style direction, you can use only 2 words - antiquity and brutality, where luxurious interior items are hidden behind the strong walls of the building (Fig. 2).

Medieval style trends

The laconic and rough Romanesque style is capable of conveying the spirit of the Middle Ages like no other.

When using this style of design, the rooms are usually made in dark (red, brown, green and black) colors, but gray and white decoration will also correspond to the style.

A large number of straight lines (both horizontal and vertical) and the presence of knightly paraphernalia - torches, coats of arms, weapons - are required. The walls can be decorated with geometric or floral patterns, decorative windows or frescoes. Plain plaster is often used - beige or yellow-brown.

Figure 3. It will look great in the Romanesque style wooden furniture, decorated with rough carvings and forged parts.

The ceiling should have the appearance of a vault, and its color should fully match the color of the walls. To make the ceiling decorative, it can be decorated with a fresco or supported with roughly made supports. The floor is tiled with stone-like ceramic tiles or natural stone.

Furniture plays a huge role in recreating the medieval spirit. They, like everything in these rooms, should be massive and quite primitive. Wooden furniture decorated with rough carvings and forged parts will look great. It is undesirable to use any upholstered furniture, with the exception of a bed. An example of the Romanesque style is shown in Fig. 3.

Byzantine style is associated with luxury. This style direction continues the ancient Roman style, which leads to the use of a large amount of textiles and woven upholstery in interior decoration. It is ideal if the fabrics are decorated with rich embroidery with geometric or floral patterns. Furniture inlaid with metals and paintings on religious themes will harmoniously fit into the design.

Baroque - the most striking style direction of the Middle Ages

Figure 4. The main elements of the Baroque style are the use of expensive marble finishes for fireplaces and the use of removable covers for upholstered furniture.

The same colors characterize another medieval style - Baroque, which includes many new interior elements that appeared at the end of the Renaissance. First of all, these are twisted legs that decorate massive furniture, high backs that gave the chairs the appearance of a throne, armrests, rich and heavy curtains, and luxurious tapestries.

The main attributes of this antique style are the use of expensive marble finishes for fireplaces and the use of removable covers for upholstered furniture. Usually the covers were made from light, expensive natural fabrics - lace and silk. Furniture items should be made of expensive types of wood - cedar, mahogany or ebony.

A little later, elements such as candelabra and grandfather clocks were included in the Baroque style. Together with them, the interior will be perfectly decorated with expensive furniture with many decorative elements: ligature, carvings or ornaments. When recreating the Baroque style, it is necessary to remember that here furniture should be not so much household items as collectibles, and accessories should create an original and lush decor. An example of Baroque is shown in Fig. 4.

Chippendale Rococo - style movement of the 18th century

The design in the Rococo style of Chippendale should be consistent with walls in pastel colors, expensive decorative elements and ornaments.

At the beginning of the 18th century, several more style trends came into fashion, which can be considered ancient design styles. Almost all of them were created by people from Foggy Albion. Yes, clean English direction An ancient style such as Chippendale Rococo should be considered. The furniture maker managed to create amazing combination from Gothic, classical Rococo and Chinese art.

Basically, this style direction is characterized by expensive furniture with gilding, luxurious inlays, and fine carvings. The design in the spirit of Thomas Chippendale should be matched by walls in pastel colors, a large amount of oriental textiles, expensive decorative elements and ornaments.

Since Rococo is a ladies' boudoir style, pink tones, mirrors in luxurious frames, deep soft chairs, designed for curvy women's clothing.

The word "vintage" came to us from French, where it denoted a strong aged wine that had been waiting for its time in wine cellars for decades. Then the concept was transferred to the interior to indicate a style direction where old things were transferred to a modern home. But the vintage style in the interior presupposes not only their presence in the house - the very atmosphere in it has its own specifics.

Modern

A vintage item is a truly period item that is at least 30 years old and was fashionable some time ago. Retro is a general concept of style, which is characterized by both antique items and modern, antique-style “remakes”.

Grandma's chest, which once contained her trousseau, is a vintage piece, as is the sideboard in which she kept the service she received as a wedding gift. And the artificially aged table, crocheted rug, antique-style cross-stitched tablecloth - it's retro. Vintage uses things that were once fashionable and have become popular again. Retro does not depend on fashion, it simply belongs to its era or depicts it.

The main features of the vintage style

Today, vintage interior style refers to the recreation of the furnishings of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. But we already live in a different century, so things dating back to the middle of the last century can already be considered vintage.

When choosing a vintage style direction for your interior, you need to decide which era is closer to your spirit and what you want to embody in your apartment. Do not forget that all rooms of the home should be decorated in the same style. Ultra-modern or, conversely, classic and, even more so, embodied luxury, baroque and other similar styles cannot be combined on the same territory with vintage that breathes antiquity.

Important! The main requirement when decorating an interior in a vintage style is the presence of objects belonging to the era being recreated.

Room interior in vintage style

In fact, vintage in the interior is not a clutter old furniture, yellowed napkins and valances - things “with history” get along quite well with modern ones, and there are no strict requirements here. But there are no random objects here, so this design is created over a long period of time, gradually. You shouldn’t be like Plyushkin and bring into the house all the old things you come across - they should be carefully matched to each other.

It’s not difficult to create a vintage interior - you don’t have to buy antique furniture and household items - your older relatives or friends’ parents will happily give away what is lying idle in attics and garages. Some can be found at flea markets, some can be created with your own hands by artificially aging them.

Main features of a vintage interior:

  • a combination of antique and modern items;
  • simplicity of the interior;
  • some randomness, slight disorder - a blanket carelessly thrown on the sofa, magazines left on the table, a basket of handicrafts;
  • a touch of romance;
  • floral scenes - on wallpaper, textiles;
  • abrasions, barely visible inscriptions on things, as if (or actually) erased by time.

Wall decoration

The best material for wall decoration is wallpaper. They must be paper, with a small or large pattern. Floral, geometric patterns, always contrasting, look good in a vintage interior. You can choose wallpaper in oriental style - Chinese or Japanese: butterflies, twigs, flowers, birds. However, if you plan to saturate the room with many decorative details, it is better to choose for the walls plain wallpaper or simply paint them in one of the pastel colors.

As a finishing option, you can apply a roll-on pattern to painted walls using rubber roller with a convex pattern: by applying paint to it, you can transfer the pattern to the wall. Stencils can be used for the same purpose.

Ceiling finishing

It's better to paint the ceiling. Get him a white one water-based paint. You can decorate the ceiling with stucco - just don’t use plastic imitations, only plaster rosettes and fillets are appropriate.

Important! Do not try to get rid of all the cracks on the surface of the ceiling and walls. This is vintage, and small unevenness and cracks will only emphasize the stylization, the main thing is that there are not many of them and they are not very deep.

Floor finishing

Laminate is not suitable for finishing the floor; it is better to use parquet or a regular wooden board. They will the best option for living room, bedroom, other living rooms.

You can lay linoleum on the floor, because it has been known since the end of the 19th century, although it was not so popular until the 1980s. It is best used for the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. You can also use tiles for these rooms.

The choice of materials for decorating a vintage interior will depend on what you decide to focus on, what creates stylization - if furniture, then limit yourself to a calm color scheme for the walls, painting them in pastel colors or covering them with light wallpaper with an unobtrusive pattern. If you want to create a bright environment for your furniture, then you can choose wallpaper with a bright ornament or a pastoral pattern, adding a small number of details to the interior.

Any finishing materials should be artificially aged to give the impression that they have stood the test of time.

Vintage style color palette

Vintage is a romantic style, so the color scheme characteristic of it consists of pastel shades - ash, beige, light pink and light blue, delicate green tones. White, milky colors can be used as the main ones, but against the background of soft warm colors, white, beige, shabby, patina-covered furniture will look harmonious, and the interior itself will be filled with light, warmth and comfort.

Important! The colors should appear faded with time.

Bright color accents can be burgundy, purple, blue. Brown and green colors are more often used in textiles. Decorative elements such as napkins, tablecloths, bedspreads are often chosen white or the color of unbleached linen.

Furniture that bears the stamp of time

Correct, harmonious vintage style is the obligatory presence of real antique, retro furniture against the background of antique-style walls. Suitable for interior:

  • tall wardrobes;
  • buffets with slightly peeling paint and scuffs;
  • forged furniture;
  • chests of drawers covered with patina;
  • low coffee tables on a copper frame and large wooden tables;
  • whatnots, carved shelves.

If the furniture is wooden, it may have traces of cracked varnish, and painted surfaces may have cracks in the paint or abrasions.

Important! Do not create a “junk shop” from the room - everything should be in moderation, although you should not combine ultra-modern and antique furniture in the same room.

There should be harmony in everything: in the bedroom, a wooden chest of drawers with a cracked front will complement a wrought-iron bed covered with a lace bedspread; lay a knitted “grandmother’s” round rug on the floor. In the living room you can put a round table with a white tablecloth, and a simple vase of flowers on it. A cuckoo clock on the wall and black and white photographs on the shelf complete the styling.

  • chandeliers with shades made of thick glass, an abundance of screws, brackets, and metal parts. They are attached to the ceiling using a strong chain;
  • lamps with wooden shades;
  • floor lamps with large lampshades;
  • designer lamps self made- made of metal, wood. Their shape can be different: in the form of an old kerosene lamp, a dome-shaped cage.

50 photos of interior design in vintage style:

A term that comes from winemaking and denotes good aging, today it is often used to describe interiors that have an antique feel. This design does not lose its relevance: at all times there have been people who sought to arrange their lives in the same way as their ancestors. Antiques and antiques were used in the room, which have always been in value, because they convey mood and traditions from generation to generation, symbolizing the connection of centuries. However, the design of such products is also impressive, because for our time these are completely unusual shapes, lines, and decor.

Due to the fact that vintage items look different from what we are used to seeing modern furniture, design in this style is considered extraordinary. Products that were fashionable in their time today tell about the tastes and preferences of the time when they were made. Their shapes and character allow us to draw conclusions about the culture, art and fashion trends of past centuries.

But the reason for the popularity of the vintage style is not only the non-standard nature of the furniture used. This design is devoid of the fuss in which you are used to living. modern man. The atmosphere in the room with antique objects is measured and calm. This is exactly what people strive for when they decorate their houses and apartments with antiques. Even the presence of several objects in an ordinary modern room will give the interior a completely different character. But the design maintained in a single composition will be more harmonious and balanced.

Vintage interior color palette

Vintage style interiors usually use interesting combinations and color schemes. Natural wood is widely used here. Moreover, it is usually quite rich, since only expensive types of wood have always been used in the production of such furniture. And their shade is usually bright and warm.

The following palette is appropriate for decoration and other details:

  • Despite the cold spectrum, gray-blue colors are one of the most harmonious solutions for decorating in vintage style. Such shades often look like they are worn out from long-term use of furniture. When paired with natural distresses, gray-blue tones will really look vintage. Most often, a similar range is used in a style with its pastel faded shades, in which vintage interior items are also appropriate.
  • In shades of gray and green vintage room will also look a little shabby from time to time. Of course, you shouldn’t get carried away with such a range, because gray shades can visually make the green dirty, which will give the interior not a vintage charm, but a touch of dust.
  • Light shades of beige are appropriate in a wide range: from cream to café au lait and mocha. These are elegant colors that are usually used not in a distressed look, but in the shapes and lines of a vintage design. They can be complemented with gold, as in classicism, or with bronze, patina, or pearl plating.
  • Pastel pink will also be harmonious with vintage style. But it is usually chosen to decorate the bedrooms of young ladies, young ladies and married couples, but in this case pink is complemented with dark - stronger shades, such as black, dark gray, chocolate. Then the room will be organically perceived by both women and men.

General characteristics of the style

Vintage is difficult to single out as a design direction in which everything is always clear and unambiguous. This is not minimalism, in which there is no place for decor, and not technological hi-tech with its independent dynamism and subordination to equipment and comfort. Vintage is far from traditional classics, in which everything is geometric and correct. It cannot be placed within the framework of rustic styles, such as, Provence,.

You can find in it features of Art Nouveau and Baroque, a little Gothic and. Shabby chic, on the contrary, borrows vintage items from ancient styles, because the design itself was invented by one person, and not by the era and development of culture. Of course, vintage does not have a philosophy behind it, like modern or classic, but it allows you to connect the past and present, and does this by using beautiful and sophisticated interior items.

The main feature of the vintage style can be called increased comfort. As a rule, antique things evoke nostalgia, pleasant memories, and sometimes sadness in people. Therefore, in such an interior no person will remain indifferent. Of course, if the space is cluttered with furniture, then you can forget about comfort, but with proper arrangement of the room it will always be pleasant to be here.

The center of the composition often becomes one single thing. This could be a bed in the bedroom, a chest of drawers or an antique chair in the living room, a dining table in the dining room or kitchen.

The furniture should be shabby or its shape should indicate its “antique” origin. Of course, elegant interior items can also be shabby, but it all depends on the general mood in the interior. If you are trying to recreate a luxurious royal boudoir, then you should not use overtly shabby items.

In this style it is impossible to determine time boundaries: it could be an interior of the 16th-18th centuries, or maybe the beginning of the 20th century. Everything depends on your taste and capabilities.

Vintage can be thematic - in the style of jazz, hippie, rock and roll. Each of these types of music had its own era and peak of popularity. Therefore, the interior should be furnished in the traditions of that time. Of course, this all relates to the 20th century, but in general the design will be recognizable, because then completely different interior items, shades and shapes were used. For example, in the kitchen of that time you can see a pale blue or red refrigerator. It will be small but streamlined.

The room can be completely decorated in the same style, or it can simply be decorated with several vintage items.

A characteristic feature of antiques is the signature of the authors. This could be a factory stamp, a barely readable inscription on a table top, on the end of a sideboard, etc.

Finishing of main surfaces

If you decorate the room completely in vintage style, then it is important to take into account the features of the decoration, because a hundred years ago there were no LEDs and suspended ceilings, laminate and linoleum. Everything was simple and natural, which is what should be followed when arranging an interior in vintage style.

Ceiling

The ceiling, as a rule, is simply painted white. There's no room here tension fabrics and spotlights. However, you can “outwit” the composition with matte materials and appropriate lamp design. But stucco remains more appropriate.

Floor

Traditionally the floor is laid wooden planks in a simpler interior, parquet in noble premises, tiles in the kitchen, bathrooms, hallways. Modern parquet may look quite varied, but it always looks expensive. But you need to choose boards that are worn.

Walls

Walls can be varied. Most often they are covered with wallpaper. But if in the aristocratic version of the vintage style it will be textile materials, then in a simpler interior ordinary paper strips are used. The pattern imitates these brickwork, whitewash, stone or wood texture. You can choose a small floral pattern or a large classic ornament.

The walls can be painted or paneled at the bottom, leaving wallpaper or paint on top. It all depends on the character and mood of the situation.

The choice of color and pattern depends on many factors. For example, in the Provence style, wallpaper will be exclusively pastel color and into a small flower. The interior is closer to classical and baroque and can use large floral or ornate patterns, as well as stripes. The design of the mid-20th century will “prefer” graphic contrasting solutions - black and white tiles, or rather its imitation, geometric patterns. Industrial can also be vintage, then they will stay here brick walls. But most often vintage is wallpaper with flowers or stripes.

What materials to prefer

In general, the finishing of the main surfaces determined the use of natural wood, paper or textile wallpaper, and paint. But these are not all the materials used in vintage style. In addition to the above and ceramic tiles, interior items, as well as decoration, can be created using forged parts, copper and bronze elements, natural stone, and precious metals.

Furniture

Despite the fact that furniture should be visually worn out, its shape, materials, and decor can be vintage. It doesn’t have to be peeling paint or scuffed surfaces. This is necessary for simple rustic rooms, but in luxurious interiors it is better to abandon such “aging”.

Almost every room made in vintage style has original form and finishing of a chest of drawers or chest, bureau, sideboard or dressing table. It is precisely such items that most often retain a touch of antiquity, because they are simply absent from modern catalogs of furniture factories.

It will be harmonious leather sofa or a chair with curved legs. But this is not that soft corner that testifies to the wealth of its owners, but wooden furniture, only part of which is upholstered in leather.

Most often, antique items have rounded shapes. It's not just the curved legs, but the entire body. For example, a chest of drawers or a chest may appear “inflated” due to the curved shape of the frame walls. At the same time, wooden objects almost always have carved and applied decorative details. All lower parts of the furniture are also decorated with graceful cutouts. Usually they go symmetrically from the middle to the corners. Such decor can be seen both in wooden products and in the decoration of bathtubs, in stone masterpieces of the past, in the frames of mirrors and paintings.

Wooden furniture is usually varnished or painted. In vintage style they rarely remain simply polished. Moreover, craquelure would be appropriate here - a mesh of cracked paint through which another layer is visible. Decoupage on vintage furniture will look beautiful.

You can make one yourself. Turning an ordinary old table into an antique one is also quite simple: just lay ceramic tiles, broken into irregular pieces, directly onto the tabletop. It will look like a cracked ceramic surface. All this can be covered with twine or trimmed around the perimeter with lace. You can do the same with a number of decorative details.

Decor

The decor is primarily furniture with its curved shapes, overlays, and carvings. But, of course, other details will be mandatory in a vintage-style interior:

  • Crockery is often used here as decoration. It is displayed in buffets, on open shelves. The plates can be decorated with decoupage or painted. The dishes can also be antique - thin and elegant, or, on the contrary, rather rough ceramic.
  • Vases, figurines, table and grandfather clocks, paintings - a standard set of quite familiar things can look in the spirit of antiquity. These elements can also be worn, aged, or painted using the craquelure technique.
  • Fresh and dried flowers will always be appropriate in any vintage-style room, even in the bathroom.
  • Textiles are necessarily used in every room. It's not only traditional form. Here you need napkins, tablecloths, curtains on furniture, lace instead of glass in the buffet - you can find a lot of options for using handicrafts or purchased fabrics.
  • Decorate the room as much as possible. It is decorated with an exquisite portal, which can be quite massive in a spacious room.
  • Candlesticks made of heavy metal, bronze lamps, forged chandeliers are another trend in decorating a vintage interior.
  • A samovar, ivory items, an iron, a spinning wheel, etc. will not be out of place.
  • Old yellowed photographs of grandmothers and great-grandmothers will decorate the room and create the right atmosphere.
  • The curtains here deserve special attention. These can be heavy curtains, as in classicism, or light linen or chintz curtains, as in Provence or country. If we talk about classic models, they should be decorated with lambrequins, tassels, and ruffles. Ruffles can also be used on light natural curtains.

Implementation of style in individual rooms

Vintage style kitchen

The kitchen is most often decorated in a vintage style, because by default it is the most comfortable room in which every person likes to spend a lot of time, not to mention the housewives who cook here for their beloved family, talk with girlfriends, sit over a cup of coffee and a book , and sometimes they work. It is not surprising that every housewife wants her kitchen to be especially cozy. The aroma of the dishes and the warmth from hob, but still a few details in vintage style – optimal solution For harmonious interior. But there is one difficulty: there is usually a lot of modern technology here, which is not so easily combined with antique furniture.

Furniture

Coping with the introduction of the latest technology into an antique setting can be quite simple: by building it in and placing it inside cabinets. In addition, you can find refrigerators and stoves stylized as products from the mid-20th century.

The features of a vintage kitchen can be defined quite easily:

The palette of such a room will always be quite bright. This is not classical restraint; cheerful shades are more appropriate here: delicate and glamorous pink, noble and calm blue, appetizing green or orange. Colors should be rich and rich. There is no need to choose formal furniture in sophisticated colors; it is better to choose active and positive shades.

There is always a lot of decor here. These include carved overlays on the facades of the set and an elegant shape dining table, and curtains, and napkins, and paintings. You can also use a portal around the hood and stove, which, by the way, will allow you to hide modern equipment. If you have space for an antique buffet, you should definitely put decorative dishes in it.

The finishing of the main surfaces in the kitchen can be completely different. The floors must be easy to clean, so they are covered with ceramic tiles with an anti-slip coating so that you can move safely. The floors are ordinary white - painted or bleached. The first option is preferable, since whitewashing in conditions high humidity and constant temperature fluctuations will quickly crack.

Walls

The main wall decoration is usually done in fairly bright colors. This can be a plain bright surface, but it is advisable to place excessively acidic shades in one area - in the dining area, on the apron, in the corner behind the dining area. You can choose rich wallpaper, with a fairly clear pattern - stripes, diamonds, checkered or striped, floral or polka dots. By the way, it is polka dots that will look most harmonious in a vintage kitchen.

You can support the pattern on the wallpaper with the help of appropriate decor - a teapot, plates and other dishes with polka dots, flowers, stripes.

The decoration with images of products - typically kitchen themes - will look funny. These can be sweets, dragees, lollipops, cakes, fruits.

The first one relaxes, and the second one creates a favorable atmosphere conducive to peace and quality rest. Using natural solid wood will create a healthy microclimate in the room, especially if you choose conifers, which release phytoncides into the air.

The interior of this room should be quite soft, even if a couple lives in it, and not just a woman. This is necessary for comfort and quality of sleep. To add dynamism and masculine notes, you can use graphic details: darker picture frames, a modern flat-screen TV installed in a regular rectangular niche.

In the bedroom, vintad is often similar to the shabby chic style, which is distinguished by its openwork and abundance. small decor. In the bedroom you can devote a whole rack to little things. This can be both decor and functional items.

Bed

Of course, the center of any room is the bed, and a vintage room is no exception. The sleeping bed should be carved, with bent legs, and a carved back. It is optimal to choose a fairly massive and large bed, otherwise the interior will be simple. The canopy looks beautiful, made in the same palette as the rest of the decoration. Drapery is a traditional decoration of ancient settings, so it is appropriate here too. It is not necessary to cover the canopy, but it gives the room intimacy and comfort.

The bed must be supplemented with a bench at the feet. Entire sets can be made in the same style - dressing table, cosmetic table, bureau, floor hanger-hanger. Such furniture is made from natural solid wood, but can be painted in pastel or neutral colors. In this case, copper, bronze, and gilding are used for finishing.

Headboard – separate decorative element bedroom. There may also be carved patterns, and stucco molding, and simply figured details with soft upholstery. In general, in the bedroom you can give free rein to your imagination, because it is not customary to allow guests into this room, so in this room you can put any furniture, choose any decor exclusively to your taste.

It would be appropriate to use a lot of small pillows, frills, and openwork lace here. They can even be placed on furniture to give it a special mood. A mirror is a detail that is usually present in the bedroom so that the hostess can try on outfits right here. Antique frames are usually a separate interior decoration. These are carved, gilded baguettes, massive or elegant. The mirror itself has interesting shimmers, because the early technologies for manufacturing such products differ from modern ones.

There must be boxes and perfumes on the table. It is better to put the cosmetics themselves in the drawers of the dressing table or bureau, and beautiful products for storing jewelry and costume jewelry, as well as bottles eau de toilette They are so diverse and original that they will become a real decoration of the interior. Here you can use photographs in beautiful frames as decoration.

This could be a large antique table, a leather sofa or an exclusive chest of drawers. Of course, it is necessary to maintain the composition of the style, but the background details can be simpler than the main accent. There are other patterns in the design of the living room.

You can, of course, use stone if you want to realize the ancient interior of an aristocratic palace. As a rule, today lightweight artificial materials are used with the organization of floor heating, since stone is a rather cold option for a living space.

An interesting solution for the living room would be to install a fireplace. It can be left brick in a simpler interior or decorated with antique facing stone in a more luxurious design. The vintage character of the furnishings is also emphasized by the stoves, which used to be heated with wood, but today they are often connected to the gas supply system. Such stoves were located in every room. They were made from fireproof glass blocks, each of which was a decorated element. As a result, the stove turned out to be quite openwork, because, in addition to the pattern on the glass, the blocks were of different shades. In old houses from the 17th to 19th centuries you can still see the original stoves of that time. Today they are becoming an exquisite detail of a vintage interior.

The living room must have a sideboard or buffet with dishes for receiving guests. In such an environment, it is advisable to use sets with tureens, gravy boats, and decorated dishes that are outdated today. You can find antique utensils just for dinner parties.

Characteristic furniture is also appropriate here, if space allows. For the bathroom, you can choose a chest of drawers for towels, hygiene items, and underwear. A bureau would also be appropriate here – for creams, shampoos, toothbrushes. You can find beautiful hook hangers, organizers, etc.

But the center of the bathroom, besides the bowl, becomes the mirror. It should be dressed in a luxurious frame - carved wood or plaster with stucco.

The bathtub itself can be of any size, but rectangular shapes are inappropriate here. It is better to choose an oval or even a round bowl; you may prefer an imitation of a steel font. It is optimal to place it in the center or on the podium. A luxurious solution would be to arrange a bowl in the form of a swimming pool - with a recess below the floor level and finished with mosaics.

Additional decor can be handrails, which are made from the same metals as faucets. These can also be forged elements.

Hallway

A vintage-style hallway will force you to give up comfortable and spacious wardrobes. A wooden or forged hanger would be more appropriate here. These can be decorative details with carved decor or ornate forged decorations. Instead of a regular pantry or compartment, you can put a cabinet with glass inserts in the facades. But you should not choose doors with mirrors. They can be placed separately - in beautiful, characteristic frames.

In the hallway, like in any other room, there should be decor. Usually it is placed on open shelves where small things are stored - keys, combs, etc. Here you can put a beautiful figurine, lay out a crocheted napkin. Flowers in a pot would also be appropriate.
