Next, bend the fringe to one side.

Sew a second strip next to it at a distance of approximately 1.5 cm from the first.

Place a second square on top of the fringed piece and pin along the edges. Sew the pillow around the perimeter, leaving a small hole for stuffing.

Sew the beak and lace using a zigzag stitch. The lace is placed in the center of the body, between the wings.

Using the same seam, sew on the wings and eyes. Hand attach the black pupil buttons.

Fold the parts of the owl's body right sides inward, secure with pins and sew. Leave a hole at the bottom between the wings for further manipulation.

Turn the toy inside out, iron it and fill it with stuffing. If you used ordinary scissors to cut out the parts, before turning them inside out, make neat notches near the ears and in all convex places so that the fabric does not tighten.

Sew the hole closed with a blind stitch.

You can do some decorating. Fold the square for the bow into a strip and iron it.

Fold the rectangle in half with the right side facing inward and sew, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance.

Cut out the blanks for the applique. You can use cardboard templates or immediately cut out parts from fabric.

Arrange the elements on the pillowcase and achieve the desired image. Mark the ground line using decorative tape. Choose the expression of the cat's loving eyes.

When you have decided on the location of all the elements of the application, you can proceed to the last stage. All that remains is to sew them to the pillowcase.

Using a small white zigzag stitch, stitch the outline of the white cloud to the polka dot cloud.

Using a green zigzag, sew the outline of the fish to the prepared two-layer cloud. Embroider the fish's fins and the outline of the head. Attach an eye bead.

Sew the parts of the cat with a fine zigzag using threads to match the fabric. Lastly, attach the eyes and embroider his mustache.

How to sew a pillow with your own hands? Every needlewoman thought about this. A pillow is needed not only for sleeping; with its help you can make your apartment design complete and original.

Having seen enough photos of homemade pillows on the Internet, you might think that sewing requires experience and talent. But having understood the process of creating a pillow, it turns out that it is not at all difficult.

Let's figure out how to make a pillow with your own hands?

The most important thing to know before you start

Before you start sewing a decorative pillow with your own hands, you need to decide exactly how it will look. But more important than this is choosing the fabric and filling.

If you want to make a multi-functional pillow, it is important to choose a fabric that can be easily cleaned. The filler should not fall into dense lumps for as long as possible, losing its elasticity.

Materials. Textile

To make a durable, practical and beautiful pillow, you need to choose the right fabric.

Firstly, it should not become highly electrified and attract any dust; it can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

Secondly, the material must prevent dust from entering the packing. Suitable fabrics:

You can use other fabrics besides propylene matting. It is slippery, rough and tough, so for soft pillow won't do.

Padding

A pillow can be stuffed with many materials. It can be cotton wool, bird down or feathers, foam rubber, padding polyester, holofiber and many others.

Let's look at each filler:

Cotton wool and synthetic padding fall into clumps at great speed. At the same time, it is almost impossible to fill the product evenly with cotton.

Feathers and down are not suitable not only because of difficult availability, but also because of insufficient elasticity. No one will fluff a decorative pillow like a bedroom pillow, so as not to spoil the beautiful finish.

Holofiber is easily available and comes in two forms: sheets and in the form of fluffy granules. Sheet is more expensive, it can be replaced with cheaper foam rubber. Holofiber is well suited for a pillow. It serves for about 10 years without slipping.

Another filler option is round silicone granules. They are best for baby pillows because they are hypoallergenic and can be easily poured out, rinsed, dried and put back in through a small hole.

Decoration. Colors

The easiest way to decorate the interior is to do it with pillows different color. Of course, they must fit color scheme to interior items: furniture, curtains or even walls.

It is sometimes a difficult task to achieve a combination - but a very popular one. From pillows of different colors you can create an ensemble that will highlight all the advantages of the interior.

The most interesting thing is that the idea with colorful pillows not only easy to implement, but also affordable financially.

Note!

Do not opt only for plain fabrics; materials with patterns and ornaments will look advantageous.

Seal

Recently, printing on fabrics has become increasingly popular. Why not print on your pillow? This affordable option decoration of your product: printing prices are not very high, the design is durable and clear.

With the help of numerous computer programs you can make a design in advance and even see how the ensemble will look in the interior.

Form and fragment

Pillows can be made in absolutely any shape. There are no restrictions in this, the main thing is to show your imagination. You can use the modular sewing technique. To do this, several simple parts are made, which are subsequently stitched in place into a complex product.

The downside of this method is that it is quite difficult to clean. It is necessary to either completely disassemble the product or use a furniture vacuum cleaner.

Note!

Patchwork or patchwork is also used. Most often, they take the key fragment and place it in the center. The fragments that match it are located along the periphery. Simple, but very effective!

Key element

The compact key element adds elegance to the decorative pillow. Such an element can be a button, tassels, bows and much more. There are no restrictions here either.

You can elevate a product made from modest fabric with the help of a key element. With its help, the finished product will look richer and more expensive, so you can use technical or furniture upholstery fabrics that are not brightly colored.

Knitting, embroidery, lace

Knitted sofa cushions are more difficult to make than simply sewn from fabric. You must be able to knit or crochet - this is a labor-intensive craft that requires care.

However, like embroidery. You can embroider any subject on the pillow using satin stitch, cross stitch or ribbons. Here, too, everything depends on your skill, imagination and perseverance.

You can also decorate the product with lace. Of course, it’s easier to buy ready-made lace in a store, but it will be much more expressive if you make the lace yourself.

Note!

Just imagine the faces of your guests when they see pillows made entirely by your own hands.

To make a pillow, you can use, for example, an old sweater. The effect will be the same as doing it yourself knitted cover. If desired, it can be decorated with various beads, buttons, and so on.

Embroidery on pillows

As mentioned earlier, you can decorate a pillow with any embroidered designs, but they cannot be done using any technique that you own.

Therefore, do not embroider with beads on the pillow. Why? It's simply unhygienic. It will be difficult to wash out all the dirt from under the beads, but what gets into the beads itself will remain there forever. And think about it: will it be comfortable to lie on such a pillow?

Cross stitch is best because it is the most durable. You can wash such a product without worrying about the threads coming out. You can use satin stitch, but when washed, the threads weaken and the design loses its attractiveness.

From old clothes

So, you can make a pillow out of old sweaters, but what else can I use? Whatever! Old T-shirts, sweaters, tank tops - everything that is lying around in your closet and is waiting in line for the landfill.

You can even use jeans. The product will not be so soft, but will look very original.

Figurines

These pillows will fit perfectly into a child's room. They can simply stand on the bed or even a shelf, pleasing the eye and completing the design of the nursery. They can serve as toys or fulfill their intended purpose.

A figurine pillow can be of any shape, the main thing is that you and your children like it.

Funny letters

With the help of such pillows, your child will learn letters faster. Often letters or numbers are sewn for the holidays. Letters can also serve as toys too.

Sometimes it’s not very comfortable to sleep on them, but they look great in the interior.

To make large letters, it is better to use foam rubber and fill only the edges with holofiber. You can stuff any large pillows this way.

Sides

Every mother of a baby knows the problem: how to protect the child from blows while sleeping in a crib? The child has already been saved from falling out of the crib, but what to do with these hard sides that the child constantly hits in his sleep?

You can also sew a pillow for these purposes! Foam rubber is best suited for sides. It is dense and will not allow the child to feel the fence upon impact.

You can cover the foam rubber with any soft fabric to which the child will not be allergic. To keep the pillow side in place, you need to sew on fabric ties that will hold the pillow in the crib.

Any pillow, regardless of its shape, size and design, will fit perfectly into any interior.

Easy to make and not requiring special talent or skills, these products will transform a boring and dull apartment into an original and cozy place for relax.

Roller candy

To get this type of pillowcase, cut the panel to the desired size and sew it into a ring. Both round edges of the resulting pipe are turned inside out, overcast and machined.

Having put the pillowcase on the pillow, the edges are pulled together tightly and decorated with fringe or lace.

Roller-screed

To get such a pillowcase, you need to cut out a panel corresponding to the size of the cushion and sew it into a “pipe”. The round edges of the product must be overcast, turned inside out and stitched at a distance of 1.5 cm. Next, the pipe must be pulled together by threading a rope inside the seam and hiding the tip in the middle. The sides can be decorated with original buttons, pompoms or flowers.

Roller with zipper

The bolster pillow, the pattern of which is presented below, is a tube with sewn-in side parts. In accordance with the size of the cushion, it is necessary to sew a pillowcase in the shape of a tube, leaving a hole for the zipper. Two round side parts that correspond to the diameter of the resulting holes in the tube need to be cut out additionally. They should be woven into the pillowcase face to face and stitched at a distance of about 1 cm from the edge.

Next, you need to treat the area where the pillow will be inserted. The hole left must be hemmed using a machine (hemmed seam). After this, you need to turn the cover inside out and sew in a zipper. The fastener must be placed under the cut, pinned with pins and machine stitched as close to the teeth as possible.

DIY bolster pillow

The decorative roller adds style and elegance to the interior. It's not difficult to do. First of all, you need to prepare:

  • a piece of fabric corresponding to the size of the pillow;

After this, you need to fold the part face inward, secure the narrow edges with pins, and grind them down.

Next you need to process the edges. You can use an overlocker for this. You can go another way: the edges are folded to the wrong side by 1 cm and ironed, then folded again by 1.5-2 cm, fixed again with an iron and stitched on a machine.

The resulting part must be turned right side out and ironed thoroughly. You need to insert a cord into one of the drawstrings and tie it tightly with a bow. A cushion is placed inside the pillowcase, the second drawstring is tightened, and the cushion cushion is ready. If desired, the sides can be decorated with decorative tassels or other elements of your choice.

Any little thing, even the simplest one, can add zest to the interior. A beautiful napkin, a homespun rug in the hallway, a panel made of straw - products self made very popular now. But some items require special tools and pre-prepared materials. And here sofa cushion You can make it from what you have on hand or at your local store. Now we’ll talk about how to sew a bolster pillow with your own hands - you don’t need patterns for this.

What is it for?

It would seem, what questions might there be? A pillow is needed either for sleeping or for decoration. Or perhaps you put her in a crib. This is true, but not quite. Of course, decorative pillows and those you sleep on are the most popular models. In fact, there are other products of this type, and you can make almost all of them yourself:

  • ordinary - square or rectangular;
  • decorative - in the form of circles or flat shapes;
  • decorative in the form of three-dimensional figures;
  • rollers.

Important! In fact, any pillow, even the most ordinary one, can decorate a room. All you need to do is make a beautiful pillowcase for it that can only be worn during the day. Three-dimensional figures, such as roses or tulips, play a purely decorative role.

As for rollers, they are universal. In addition to the fact that they can become a very worthy interior detail, you can lie on them, and also place them, if necessary, under different parts of the body - under the head, neck, back, arm, legs.

What types of rollers are there?

Before sewing a bolster pillow, think about how exactly you want the cylinder stuffed with filling. It could be:

  • “sweetie”:
  • pillow with ties;
  • zipper pillow;
  • pillow with buttons or Velcro.

We select materials

To make a good cylindrical bolster pillow with your own hands, you don’t need a pattern, but it’s best to select the materials right away.

You will need:

  • fabric for pillow;
  • pillowcase fabric;
  • accessories – zipper, buttons, Velcro;
  • filler;
  • braid;
  • decorative elements.

Fabric for roller

For a pillow, regardless of whether it has a pillowcase or not, it is better to take natural fabric - cotton or linen. Much depends on what kind of filler you use. If you have sheet foam rubber, then it makes absolutely no difference whether the weave is dense or sparse. For fine-grained filler, dense material is preferable.

Important! New cotton or linen fabric shrinks after washing, so you need to wash it before cutting it.

Fabric for decorative pillowcase

Since you are not going to sleep on it, the material can be anything - from knitwear to velvet and brocade. The main thing is that the pillowcase is in harmony with the rest of the details - the bedspread, curtains, wallpaper.

Filler

If you need a cushion pillow with your own hands, the master class begins with choosing a filler. The manufacturing method depends on what the bag is filled with.

Suitable for you:

  • foam;
  • holofiber;
  • buckwheat;
  • buckwheat husk.

The choice of filler depends on how hard you want your product to be:

  • The foam pillow will be soft. The roller can be sewn in literally half an hour, but foam rubber has one very serious drawback - it disintegrates over time and releases unpleasant substances.
  • Working with holofiber is not much more difficult, but this material is absolutely neutral and does not react with environment, does not cause allergies. In addition, mites and mold do not like it very much.
  • Buckwheat or buckwheat husk is usually recommended for those who need orthopedic pillows. The roller turns out to be quite hard. But it is able to take the optimal shape for you. In addition, buckwheat is a natural material that does not cause harm to health. If we talk about disadvantages, there is only one - the shell must be dense.

Important! You should not fill the cushion with down - this filler causes allergies in many people, and in addition, dust accumulates in feather pillows - which is why they are most often abandoned.

Pillow with ties

The simplest option. If you have never done needlework and are first thinking about how to sew a cushion for a sofa, it is better to start with it.

The manufacturing method depends on the filler:

  • foam roller;
  • roller with any other filler.

With foam rubber

In this case, you won't need the inner bag. The roller consists of only two parts:

  • foam cylinder;
  • removable pillowcase.

The first step is to cut out a strip of foam rubber. The longer it is, the thicker the roller will be:

  1. Roll the strip into a tight cylinder.
  2. Using a needle and thick thread, sew the workpiece so that it does not unravel - this can be done with any seam that is familiar to you.
  3. Sew the outer edge of the strip to the previous layer with several tight stitches.

Important! Foam rubber breaks easily, so the stitches should not be small and frequent.

Cut out the pillowcases

The pillowcase pattern is a rectangle. But before you make a bolster pillow with your own hands, you need to measure something and remember your school math course. To take measurements you will need a measuring tape or thick strong thread:

  1. Measure the thickness of the foam cylinder.
  2. Calculate the radius of the side by dividing the resulting measurement by 6.28.
  3. Measure the length of the cylinder.
  4. To this measurement add twice the radius of the sidewall.
  5. Draw a rectangle, one side of which is equal to the length of the foam blank with a double radius added to it, and the second is equal to the thickness of the cylinder, make allowances of 2 cm on the long sides, and 1 cm on the short sides.

Let's start sewing:

  1. You need to make drawstrings on the short sides. Fold the allowances onto the wrong side, first by 0.5 cm, and then by 1.5 cm, baste and stitch.
  2. On the wrong side of the seam allowance at a distance of 2.5 cm from the long side, make round hole, overcast its edges with a tight buttonhole stitch.
  3. Make the same hole on the other side.
  4. Fold the workpiece in half, lining up the long sides.
  5. Sew the seam.
  6. Turn the workpiece inside out.
  7. Insert the laces into the drawstrings.
  8. Place the pillowcase over the foam cylinder.
  9. Tighten the laces - their ends can be tied together.

Other filler

To sew a bolster pillow with your own hands and stuff it with buckwheat, you need to make 2 covers: one is solid, the other is removable. The second cover is made in exactly the same way as for the foam roller. The first one, which is also called filling or mounding, is also quite simple to sew. In this case, knowing how to calculate the radius from the circumference will also come in handy:

  1. Draw a circle on paper the size of which is equal to the desired size of the sidewall.
  2. Calculate the width of the strip from which you will sew the cover - it is equal to twice the radius of the sidewall, multiplied by 6.28.
  3. Draw a strip of the same width, and its length is equal to the desired length of the pillow.
  4. Cut out the details - a strip and 2 identical circles, not forgetting about the allowances.
  5. Finish all cuts with an overlocker.

Collecting the filling

You can do this in two ways:

  • on the front side;
  • on the wrong side.

Important! The first method is good for synthetic fabrics, such as microfiber, avisent or parachute silk. The second is for crumbling materials.

There are no fundamental differences, just in the first case you don’t have to turn the workpiece inside out:

  1. Fold the strip in half, wrong side out, aligning the long sides.
  2. Baste and stitch the seam.
  3. To one short section, baste and stitch a round piece.
  4. On the other side, do the same, but do not sew the circle all the way.
  5. If necessary, cut the seam allowances so that the fabric does not bulge at the joints. If you didn't overcast them, you can cut close to the stitching and overcast them together.
  6. Turn the workpiece inside out.
  7. Fill it with filler.
  8. Carefully seal the hole.

Roller with zipper

The manufacturing sequence is exactly the same as in the previous case. The difference lies in the style of the cover. You don't have to manually seal anything:

  1. Cut out the cover in the same way as in the previous case, that is, cut out rectangles and 2 circles.
  2. Finish the parts with an overlocker.
  3. On the long sides of the rectangle, iron the seam allowances to the wrong side.
  4. Insert the zipper - it should be the same length as the rectangle.
  5. Attach the zipper.
  6. Turn the workpiece inside out.
  7. Baste and stitch both circles.
  8. Unscrew the cover and insert the pillow.

How to sew a pillow for a manicure?

This pad is also a cushion. The manufacturing technology is not much different from the previous ones, only the fabric and filling need to be selected more carefully.

Important! It is better to make such a cushion with a cover that can be removed and washed if varnish suddenly gets on the pillow.

It is better to take synthetic fabric for the cover, but one that cannot be damaged by solvent or varnish. Buckwheat or holofiber are suitable as fillers - foam rubber does not behave very well when in contact with acetone and other solvents.
