DIY hanging rattan swing. Hanging chairs for a summer residence: characteristics of types and a master class on how to make it yourself

, beds, armchairs various types- this interior items is given special attention, and the most stringent requirements are put forward when choosing them. We can safely say that such furniture has the largest number various models, variations and manufacturing methods. One of the most original and unusual places for relaxing in the house - this is a hanging chair. The first mention of this piece of furniture dates back to the 50s of the last century. Since then, the hanging chair has become not only one of the whims of interior fashion from the pages of glossy magazines, but also a comfortable component living rooms, bedrooms And children's rooms in simple apartments.

Types of hanging chairs

Over more than half a century of its existence, the hanging chair has undergone many metamorphoses and “reincarnations,” and given time There are already several types of this piece of furniture.

  • With a rigid frame - such chairs are made from rattan, acrylic, plastic base, covered with durable fabric. Wicker can also be used as a material for making a rigid chair frame.
  • With a soft frame - this type of chair resembles an ordinary hammock. Its main difference is its size. A hanging frameless chair is much smaller than a hammock and takes up little space. When used, it takes the shape of the human body, that is, you can simply sit in it or take a horizontal position.
  • Hanging cocoon chairs. Their peculiarity is that interior space 2/3 is hidden from prying eyes using wicker walls. This vacation spot will appeal to those who are fans of privacy.
  • The “Drop” chair is usually installed in children's rooms. Outwardly it looks like house, and some models even have doors.

In addition, hanging chairs are divided into types according to other characteristics - the type of fastening (axial and rod), the material used and the load. Before choosing a chair, you need to decide where and how it will be used, and what intensity of load is expected on it.

Advantages and disadvantages of hanging chairs

Like everything that surrounds us, hanging chairs have their pros and cons. Their advantages include originality and uniqueness, if the chair is made with your own hands, in a single copy. But their main advantage is, of course, comfort. Where else, if not in a hanging chair, can you remember your childhood and calm your nerves that have been shaken during the day?

The disadvantages of such a piece of furniture are that it is difficult to move, because installing or dismantling a hanging chair is quite difficult. In addition, if you move the chair to another place, then ceiling traces of the previous fastening will remain.

DIY hanging chairs: do it yourself

Having a hanging chair is a dream for many. But most people prefer not to buy it, but to make it with your own hands. You don’t need to have any special skills, you just need to prepare everything necessary tools and materials. To make a hanging frame chair with your own hands you will need:

  • gloves,
  • scissors, fabric meter or construction tape,
  • thick fabric,
  • base for the frame - metal, wood, plastic or acrylic hoops,
  • trouser tape, interlining,
  • metal fittings (ring and buckles) for mounting and assembling the chair,
  • polyamide threads or tapes,
  • medium-thick foam rubber in the form of strips or squares,
  • slings and cords that can withstand heavy loads.

All these materials can be purchased at any hardware or haberdashery store.

People have come up with a lot interesting devices for rest and relaxation. Today we invite you to make one of them - a hanging chair with your own hands. It is also called a flying chair. Swinging in this cozy nest, you can take a nap, meditate and forget about your problems. You will be convinced that the chair will immediately become the center of universal attraction both in the apartment and in the country. Therefore, without further delay, let's get down to business.

1. Making a hanging chair with a cover

Tools and materials needed for work

No labor-intensive operations will be carried out, so we stock up on a lightweight arsenal of tools. We will need:

  • Steel hoop ∅90 cm.
  • Durable fabric 150 cm wide - at least 3 m.
  • Dublerin, interlining or trouser braid.
  • Sling – 8 m.
  • Iron ring for attaching the chair to the ceiling.
  • Four metal buckles.
  • Tailor's centimeter, scissors, sewing supplies.

Let us dwell in more detail on the hoop, which plays a role in the design load-bearing frame. Home craftsmen have tried several options for this important element by comparing their physical characteristics.

  • Gymnastic hoops. Even steel ones, they are unlikely to withstand the weight of an adult for long. We don’t consider plastic and aluminum ones at all. The limited selection of diameters (from 65 to 90 mm) is also an annoying drawback. In addition, the cross-section of the sports hoop is only 16 mm. For a high-quality and beautiful product, the cross-section of the ring should be approximately 32 mm, and if the chair is wicker, then the entire 40 mm. However, a gymnastic hoop can be successfully used for a children's hanging chair. The small cross-section in this case is compensated by several layers of filler screwed onto the ring.
  • Metal pipe. Some craftsmen advise bending a frame from a thin-walled 32 mm pipe. At first glance, the option seems acceptable. But, having calculated the parameters of such a metal product, you begin to doubt: a ring with a diameter of 1 m will use 3.2 m of pipe, which is about 7 kg of net weight.
  • Bent wood. Wooden hoops are lightweight and environmentally friendly, but are of little use for dacha conditions. Changes in humidity and air temperature (somewhere in the gazebo) will lead to drying out and warping of the wood. To dry and treat the ring, you will have to remove the cover.
  • Metal-plastic water pipe. This is the most successful and inexpensive option for our purpose how to make a hanging chair. You should choose among pipes rolled into coils. Straight polypropylene pipes can behave unpredictably when bent. The technology for making a hoop is simple: cut the required length of pipe with a hacksaw and roll it into a ring. The connection will be made of plastic or wood inserts. The joint can be further strengthened with short screws.

Choose best option themselves, in accordance with the size and location of the chair. Perhaps you will have your own ideas for making a frame. Let's assume that we have a strong hoop, we can start cutting out the cover.

Cutting and sewing a cover for a hanging chair

Cutting fabric does not tolerate haste and inattention. If you are in doubt about the size, leave larger allowances - they can be cut off later. The operating procedure is as follows:

Step 1. Take a three-meter piece of thick fabric and cut from it two equal squares, one and a half meters long and wide. We fold each part four times. From the central corner we mark the fourth part of the circle with a radius of 65 cm. We draw a line along the marks. We cut out two identical circles from the squares. We retreat four centimeters inward from the edge of the resulting circles and draw a dashed line.

Step 2. Mark the holes for the slings on the first circle. To do this, fold the material in four and iron it. We consider the folds as guidelines. Two slings will have an angle of inclination relative to the bend of 45°, the other two - 30°. Having marked the corners, we unfold the circle and iron it again. Now we have axes pointing to the slot locations for the slings.

Step 3. We mark slots on all four axes obtained - rectangles 15 cm high, 10 cm wide. Inside the rectangles, markings are made in the form of the letter Y. We will cut along it. We put the circles together, making sure that the shared thread of one part does not coincide with the other. This way the case will better retain its normal shape. Place the marked circle on top. We chop them off and make cuts on two circles at once.

Step 4. Bend the petals of the cut holes to the wrong side. We glue the rectangle around the perimeter with non-woven fabric, dublerin, or sew on ordinary trouser tape so that the fabric does not fray. After this, we make a full slit and stitch it along the edge, retreating 3 mm.

Step 5. Stepping back from the edge of the previously marked 4 cm, we grind both circles together, leaving a hole for inserting a hoop. We cut the four-centimeter allowance, making it jagged along the entire perimeter. Turn the cover right side out and iron it.

Step 6. Cut strips of filler and cover the hoop with them, possibly in two layers. We insert the sheathed frame into the case. Moving the ring to the edges, we sew both circular parts into a basting at a distance of seven centimeters from the edge.

Step 7. Turn inside out the edges of the unstitched hole left for inserting the hoop. We notch and chop off the allowances on the front side so as not to deform the geometry of the circle. We sew the edges and sew them on a machine, retreating 2-3 mm. We move the hoop to the stitched edge, sweep the cover at a distance of the same 7 cm.

Step 8. Cut the padding polyester in the slots and move it inside the cover, securing it with threads. We sew the slits along the edges with a hidden seam. Now we strengthen the cover on the frame, quilting it along the 7-centimeter basting made. After making 4-5 stitches, tighten the knot. We make the next row of stitches at a distance of 7-8 cm from the previous one, so that the dense fabric can freely gather in soft folds.

Step 9. Cut the sling into four pieces of two meters each. Its ends can be melted over an open fire. We thread the end of the sling into the hoop at the slot. Fold it to form a loop, pin it with needles and stitch it. We repeat the operation with each line.

Step 10. We thread the free end of each sling through the buckles, then into the ceiling ring and again into the buckles. This way we will adjust the height of the hanging chair and its angle of inclination. The ring, in turn, will collect all the lines into one suspension.

The flying chair covered with fabric is ready. This was the simplest option, based on one hoop.

2. Making a wicker hanging chair

1. Now we will look at original design made of two hoops braided with cord in macrame style. It will require the following materials:

  • Two hoops from metal-plastic pipe cross section 35 mm. The hoop for the back is 110 cm in diameter, the hoop for the seat is 70 cm.
  • 900 m of polyamide cord 4 mm thick. Ask for a cord with a polypropylene core, which creates tight knots when knitted.
  • Slings - 12 m.
  • 2 thick cords to hold both rings together.

As for the sizes of the hoops, they can be made smaller, since the indicated parameters are actually the maximum for a hanging chair. It is better to purchase the entire volume of cord at once so that there is no discrepancy in color and texture. Now that everything you need has been prepared, you can get to work.

2. First we braid the hoops. For every meter of pipe, an average of 40 m of cord is used. The coils should be laid tightly, evenly and with good tension. Every 20 turns, secure the winding by pulling and twisting the last loops until they stop. The surface of the braid must be smooth and durable, because the mesh for the back and seat will be attached to it. It is better to work with gloves.

3. Now we weave a mesh directly on the hoop with a double cord, attaching it to the braid with a double loop. The weaving pattern is the so-called checkerboard pattern, with flat knots. There is no need to trim the ends of the knots; they will form a fringe. The elasticity of the mesh depends on the tension of the cord during operation. Possible deformation of the ring during tight weaving will be compensated for later equal tension knots, and the shape of the hoop will be restored.

4. The next step is to fasten the braided rings into a chair. At one end we connect the hoops by tightly wrapping them with a cord. From the opposite edge we insert two identical wooden rods. Cuts are made at all four ends of the rods to prevent the hoops from slipping. This will ensure the correct tilt of the back and allow you to weave an even, rigid mesh for it. We set the length of the rods depending on the selected backrest height.

You can choose any patterns for weaving the back. Those who practice macrame can choose any pattern. The cord is attached to the upper part of the backrest. The mesh is woven down to the seat. The cords are tightened at the bottom ring. The lower residues are collected in brushes. The design is reinforced by two thick cords connecting the seat and backrest. Slings are tied to the chair, and it takes its place in the garden, on the balcony or in the apartment.

Make such a chair for yourself, and you will forget the way to psychotherapists, you will find peace and a philosophical attitude towards all troubles.

Hanging chair macrame is the dream of many, from young to old. Therefore, it is not surprising that there are now a great many offers for the sale of such chairs on the market. And you can always buy a ready-made hanging chair, of course, self made. But the price of such a chair is sometimes shocking.

Don't have any extra money? Do you have a couple of hours of free time in the evenings? And you really want to have your own cozy rocking chair? So why not weave a hanging chair using the macrame technique with your own hands. This way you can do it for real exclusive armchair, the color and size you want, and most importantly cheap.

Before proceeding directly to the master classes on making such chairs, let’s make a reservation: a finished hanging chair can be attached either to the ceiling in an apartment or to a special support in the yard at the dacha. We will discuss ways to hang such chairs in more detail in a separate article.

DIY round hammock chair detailed master class

So, let's begin the first master class on weaving a round hammock chair, with step-by-step photo instructions and additional diagrams.

When I say round, I mean the seat of the chair, but its top somewhat resembles a tent.

As a matter of fact, it is more convenient to start weaving a chair from the seat. In the future, connect the finished seat with the back, add fringe if desired, and you can admire the result. But first things first.

Required materials:

  • polyester cord (D 4.5 -5 mm, 800-900 meters);
  • gymnastic ring (D 17 cm, thickness 2-2.5 cm);
  • steel gymnastic hoop (D 90 cm);
  • hook No. 8-9, scissors, tape measure.

We weave the chair seat

As I mentioned, let's start with the seat. To begin with, I suggest you familiarize yourself with the simplest, in my opinion, version of weaving “net” or, as this technique is usually called in macrame: “Chess of flat knots”. We will discuss other options in the future.

The photo of the instructions shows a diagram of weaving a double flat/square knot and a mesh of them.

In addition, for those new to macrame, I have attached a video tutorial with a detailed explanation of how to weave a network of square knots.

For such a seat you will need a large steel hoop (aluminum will bend) and about 96 meters of cord.

The cord should be cut as follows:

  • 8 threads of 6 meters;
  • 4 x 5.5 m;
  • 4 x 4.5 m;
  • 2 x 4 m.
In terms of the length of the cord it turns out: 48+22+18+8=96 meters.

In photo No. 3, I marked each cord with a certain color so that it would be clearer to you where each one ended up on the hoop (I think in the future it will become clear to you why we cut them to different lengths).

So, first we attach the longest ones (these are 8 pieces of 6 m each) in photo 5 point - they are marked green. We tie them in pairs at a distance of 6 cm from each other.

Please note that the cord is folded in half and secured with a special knot - it is shown in photo No. 4. And in the addition diagram, which is presented just below with a separate photo: there are four fastening options. Which option to use is up to you. The main thing is that in the end, from one cut 6 meters: you get two working threads 3 m long.

The tied ropes must be fixed (so that they do not slip). To do this, in each pair (which is 4 threads of 3 m each) we knit a square knot - pattern No. 6.

From tied threads we weave a checkerboard net (video lesson above).

A few words about mounting: the photo below shows the promised four options. These are regular fastenings with a lock either on the face or inside out, and extended fastenings also on the face or inside out.

Why pay attention to them? If in the future you don’t want to spend a lot of extra rope on wrapping the hoop (so that it doesn’t peek out), and don’t dream of a chic fringe. It is better to use an extended mount - this way you will hide a little more of the hoop.

The second thing I want to draw your attention to in this version of weaving a seat for a hanging chair: the outer threads (2 x 4 m) are tied to a hoop - they are highlighted in the diagram yellow. Well, in fact, she schematically gave examples of how you can tie them to a hoop.

We weave a hanging macrame chair

We cut 20 threads of 10 meters each (i.e. cord consumption - 200 m).

We fold each rope in half and tie a knot in the middle (in the work, 20 threads of 10 m each will again turn into 40 of 5 m each).

We focus on the two threads on the sides (remember that one thread is two working threads). Accordingly, it turns out that we have two threads on the left and 2 on the right (they need to be highlighted somehow - alternatively, wind their ends).

We divide all the cords in half in the middle (for convenience, throw them over the door). We are working with the first part: 20 ropes, 2 of them with windings (one on the left and one on the right, respectively). Using these threads we weave 12 square/double flat knots (the bulk of the ropes are braided with four selected ones). At the end, tie the threads with windings in a knot (pictured No. 3).

Then the knots tied in the center unravel, unroll the work No. 4 and weave 15 more knots.

Next, we connect the edges (we form a loop - No. 6) and continue to braid 38 with the same two cords. Now it is better to hang the loop on a carabiner or, if there is none, on a belt, etc. We weave 3-4 knots and tie these 2 threads with windings in a knot, dividing all the ropes in half.

Now pay attention to point 8: unfold the loop as shown in the photo, find two ropes with wound ends and make them the middle of a square knot. Those. this time they tie up. Next, we weave 4 square knots sequentially in a row.

And again we take two threads with wound edges (the remaining two) and tie them too. From the remaining threads we tie 4 more knots - the result should be a row of 10 square knots (40 threads / 4 per knot = 10 knots).

We knit a couple more rows in a checkerboard pattern and tie the ropes to a small ring.

Cords with wound edges are marked in red (No. 16).

No. 17 we start weaving slings.

They will hold the hanging chair in front. For them you need to add ropes: cut 8 by 6 meters (consumption 48 meters). We tie them with an extended knot No. 19.

We tie 4 in front, and 2 on the sides. We knit a series of square knots and divide them in half (we need two slings).

We work with the first one: we knit a couple more rows of double flat knots (in the end we get 3 rows of knots), retreat 10 cm and knit 3 rows again and repeat until you get the desired length. Weave the second line the same way, try to keep them symmetrical.

If you already know where your beautiful chair will hang, do it because it will be more convenient for you. Please note that when loaded, polyester cords will stretch a little - i.e. the seat will lower by 10-20 cm.

At this point, the slings are ready; all that remains is to tie them to the finished seat.

No. 24 we weave the back of the chair using the macrame technique.

We will again need additional threads, we cut 16 by 9 meters (this is another 144 m). We tie them to the ring, 4 in the back in the middle, and 2 in the remaining intervals (I drew a diagram below so as not to confuse you in these additions, so don’t be alarmed).

We move the threads with windings towards the slings; in photo No. 25 they are marked in blue. Just tie them with rep knots (shown schematically No. 27).

Promised diagram of added ropes. I drew them according to the number of “cuts”. We remember that after tying to the base they “turn into two”.

Those. 8 threads of 6 meters = 16 threads of 3 m; 16 threads of 9 meters = 32 of 4.5 m.

We tie the slings to the seat of the chair at a distance of 77-80 cm.

And we proceed to the actual weaving of the back. You can choose the pattern yourself, whatever suits your soul. Let me draw your attention to the first row of nodes. In the diagram below I have already drawn the specific number of threads that is obtained at this stage.

In the first row you get 13 knots, if you knit the second with a checkerboard, you get 14, etc.

The wide, beautiful openwork back is the main highlight of the macrame hanging chair. Accordingly, the wider the back you need, the more threads you add.

This version includes:

  • 4 threads - 7.50 m each (30 m);
  • 4 - 7 m each (28);
  • 4 - 6.50 m each (26);
  • 4 - 6 m each (24);
  • 4 - 5 m each (20).
In total, an additional 128 meters were woven.

Adding threads to the back is demonstrated in photos No. 37-39.

Finally, along the edge of the design at the bottom, pass a couple of rows of flat knots or secure the design next to rep knots.

Tie the finished back to the hoop from the middle (evenly pulling, symmetrically to the center, tie the side threads).

At the finish line, we conjure over the fringe, additionally cut the threads for the front 160 cm, for the back 180 cm. Tie them tightly until the gaps on the hoop are completely filled (and of course, do not forget about symmetry).

We will weave the skirt together from additionally tied ones and from the ones hanging from the back, slings and seat. By the way, at this stage you can cut off the excess (if any) and use it to create a skirt.

Simply tie pieces of sufficient length to the hoop; short pieces (in case of shortage) can be “soldered”. Heat the edges with a lighter and quickly connect both ends. Use soldered threads only in fringes that are not under load!

If there is enough cord, then run 150 - 200 meters onto the fringe.

Another important point: before weaving a particular pattern on the skirt of your chair, you need to “fasten” the threads. Alternatively, first weave a brid or a couple of rows of flat knots. And then, with a calm soul, weave your pattern; you can also complete it with a brid. We trim the fringe threads evenly and admire the hanging chair made by ourselves.

Such a chair will withstand a hundred and something kilograms, the main thing is that the fasteners can withstand it.

Let's summarize the thread consumption: seat 96 m + base 200 m + slings 48 m + back 144 m + additionally 128 m woven into the back + fringe 200 m = 816 meters.

Tell me, did you change the threads there, adding extra ones? Even the same “knitter” cannot have two identical chairs. It is better to cut off the “extra” than to redo the entire chair due to a lack of them. In addition, excess trimmings, as I already mentioned, can be used in the fringe of the hammock chair. Experiment - come up with your own patterns, you will definitely end up with a beautiful macrame hanging chair.

A couple of ideas on how to make a chair seat differently.

Here the seat is crocheted, more details about it in the master class presented below.

The second option for weaving a hanging chair

This option of weaving a macrame chair can be called economical in comparison with the first. The first chair took 800-900m, but this is only 400. Accordingly, you will weave such a chair faster.

We begin again to make a hanging chair from the seat. In this version it is crocheted. Crochet a round napkin, then tie it to the hoop (using the same hook - do not cut the thread).

In this option, it is better to wrap the hoop with twine in advance.

We begin to make the loop in the same way as in the first version. I signed everything in detail in the photo instructions.

The threads used to weave the square knots are marked in blue and green. As a result, they securely hold the seat: two in front and two in back.

There's really no need to go through the trouble of coming up with a complex pattern for the seat of a hanging hammock chair. After all, it will still be covered with a pillow or feather bed. But a beautiful skirt with fringe can be significantly improved appearance your chair.

Well, I prefer the “solid” back of macrame chairs; a mesh of double flat knots is prettier when there is a small distance between them and a lot of ropes are involved. But that's up to you to decide.

Please note that you can not only modify macrame patterns, but also the very basis of the design of your hanging chair. Add a circle on top of the same diameter as the seats and you have a great mini hanging tent.

You can completely abandon the round base.

Macrame hanging chair with short back

From two hoops of different diameters you can weave a cozy hanging chair with a low back.

Load-bearing twisted chains can be woven into the back of the chair.

Or you can attach them purely to the hoops.

In addition, you don’t have to connect the hoops end to end at the front.

Or this kind of modernization.

It’s true that with just one hoop you can make an unusual round hammock chair with your own hands, see the video master class for inspiration.

And one more example for inspiration (this time without a hoop). This chair is made with a wooden seat. Why not?

The fastest and cheapest way to make a hanging hammock chair using the macrame technique

How to quickly and inexpensively weave a hanging chair using the macrame technique? I show the final, simplest option.

Here you will need to make a wooden base, and then weave the familiar network of square knots. All steps are demonstrated in detail on step by step photos instructions.

The result is a beautiful macrame hammock hanging chair.

That's it, our selection of master classes on how to weave a round hanging macrame chair with your own hands has come to an end. For inspiration, don't be afraid to experiment!

By the way, before you start weaving such chairs, take a look at ours - there are very worthy options that will surely appeal to someone.

Easy to create with your own hands. This does not require financial costs, a lot of time or physical effort. It is enough to show your imagination and watch a few master classes to see how easy this design is to manufacture. We decided to make our own instructions in this article.

Making a wicker version of the chair

Selection of suitable materials

To create a pendant with your own hands, you do not need any special skills. The design is very simple - a metal base and wicker fabric.

Required list of tools and materials

  • Two metal hoops of different sizes. A diameter of 80 centimeters is suitable for the seat, and about 110 centimeters for the backrest.
  • 900 meters of dense cord for weaving
  • Drawings that can be easily found on the Internet
  • Slings
  • Strong rope
  • Two wooden crossbars
  • Tape measure, scissors, hand protection.

Required length segment can be calculated using the formula S = 3.14xD, where S is the length of the pipe, D is required diameter. For example, if you want to get a diameter of 115 centimeters, then you need a pipe 361 centimeters long. After the calculations have been completed, connect the ends of the tube. To fasten them together, plastic spacers, which are attached with screws, are suitable.

It is better to make the back and seat from strong and at the same time soft ropes with a diameter of 4-5 millimeters. A polyamide cord, which can be purchased at a building materials store, is suitable for these parameters. When working, it makes it possible to create strong units that do not fall apart. Make sure you have enough rope so you don’t have to buy more in the future.

One of the most common and convenient for subsequent use is chess, which even beginners can master.

Assembling the product

Before you fasten the hoops together, consider where the support bars will be located. Before installing them, we advise you to cut them at the ends of the recess so that they do not slip off. Then connect the rings on the opposite side of the installed rods and fasten them with a tight and strong rope.

Making the back

To prevent the hammock from turning out tacky and tasteless, we advise you to maintain consistency in the patterns and weave this part in the same way as the seat. Start weaving from the top, gradually lowering down, and do not forget to firmly fasten the ropes.

Do not trim the remaining threads as they can be used to hang decorative beads. Fix strong cords on the hoops in four places that can be intertwined. You can hang the product on them when it is ready.

We post

To be placed on summer cottage it can be hung horizontally using slings wooden beam.

However . For this it is necessary to ceiling drill a hole and pour it into it special solution from high-strength polymers. After this, you can insert a special holder or hook into it. After two or three days, when the structure is fixed in the ceiling, you can hang the seat.

Master class on creating a hanging chair with your own hands from fabric

In addition to the wicker hammock, there is a fabric option. It is suitable for those who have not yet mastered the macrame technique. For this kind will do an ordinary gymnastic hoop made of metal, which can be bought at any sports store. Here you can show your imagination and use any fabric, creating a kind of soft and cozy cocoon.

Collecting materials

In addition to a hollow metal hoop, a textile hammock chair is necessary.

  • 3 meters of thick fabric
  • Down or padding polyester for filling
  • Fasteners
  • About 3 meters of edging material
  • About 9 meters of belt tape
  • Sewing tools

Let's get started

First you need to make a fabric base. To do this, you need to cut two circles of one and a half meters in diameter from a three-meter cloth. To make it smooth and beautiful, you need to cut the fabric into two parts, then fold each four times, and after that, marking a radius of 65 centimeters and the border of the circle, cut off all excess.

We fasten the slings

We straighten the resulting circles and begin marking the places for the securing crossbars. It is advisable to fold the woven blanks together so that all the marks and slots are the same. Holes for the crossbars are made at angles of 45° and 30°.

Working with fabric

Next, straighten the material and place it right sides inward. Sew a zipper to one of the parts, which follows the diameter of the metal hoop. After this, we sweep both parts along the edges, turn them inside out and step back from the edge to 7 centimeters and again go around the perimeter with thread. This way we leave a hole for metal frame. Turn the product inside out again.

Now you need to fill it with padding polyester. To prevent it from rolling or bunching, secure it with a hidden seam. To make the chair softer and more comfortable, treat the metal surface with synthetic padding. To do this, you need to wrap the frame with strips of material and secure with threads.

Hanging a hammock

Now it's time to attach the belt tape. First, you need to divide it into four parts and thread it through the holes in the fabric intended for fasteners. It is better to treat its ends with fire so that the belts do not suddenly unravel during operation. After you have wrapped the ribbon around the hoop, machine stitch it and secure it.

If you need to adjust the height and tilt of the hammock, then thread the free ends of the tape into strong metal buckles. After this, all fasteners are assembled and secured to the ring. It, in turn, is attached to a pre-prepared ceiling using a hook or carabiner.

Where to install hanging furniture

If you have a large living room, then such a hammock will be an excellent addition to the rest of the furniture, and will not weigh down the space. It would also be a great solution to install such a device in. Light rocking and a comfortable head start will relax both you and your child. In the bedroom, attach the structure closer to the window. Moreover, if the fabric of the hammock is combined with the material of the bedspreads or pillows, it will merge with the entire interior and become an integral part of it.

During the warm season, almost every city dweller dreams of getting out into nature and spending at least a few days, or even months, there. Outdoor recreation is necessary for every person, and it is very important to have a comfortable hammock or chair for this. A hanging chair that can immerse a vacationer in childhood is considered very popular. After all, all children love to swing on swings. But since the cost of this piece of furniture is quite high, skilled craftsmen learned how to make it ourselves.

The right approach will help you create a product no worse than those sold in stores.

Varieties

The first hanging chair appeared in Denmark in the mid-twentieth century. This designer furniture is most often used to furnish garden plot and less often for apartments in megacities. A hanging chair is a comfortable seating area that is usually made from natural or man-made materials such as wicker or rattan. The product itself is either suspended from the ceiling or installed on a special stand so that you can swing in the lounger. It is also called a rocking chair or swing chair, because their main purpose is to rock a person.

The interesting thing is that such a product can withstand very heavy weight. Therefore, a mother with a child or two teenagers can easily relax in it. The main thing is that the size of the furniture allows it to accommodate more than one person.

Hanging chairs can be divided into wicker, fabric, hard and soft, and they differ in shape and material. These products are designed to swing in different directions. There is only one type of hanging chair that does not move diagonally or back and forth. It is attached to the floor and ceiling, and therefore can only rotate in a circle.

The frame of the product can be made of various materials. Hard ones are made of rattan, wicker, metal, acrylic or transparent plastic. And to soften the product, it is covered with a soft blanket or a synthetic padding mattress is placed inside. Sometimes the base is covered with thick fabric, and small pillows are placed on top.

The hammock chair has a soft frame, as it is made of a fabric base, which is suspended from the ceiling.

Also, the hanging chair can be divided according to purpose. For example, a garden product is intended to be installed outdoors, and therefore its material must be moisture-resistant. But baby product must have small size and a soft seat.

Types of construction

There are many models of hanging chairs, and each of them can complement a garden plot or apartment. Making furniture with your own hands has a number of advantages over purchased goods, because they allow you to show your imagination and make sure of its quality.

The complexity of the work depends on the design of the product, and therefore it is worth familiarizing yourself with all types in order to make a choice.

Hanging swing

These unusual chairs can be made from different materials. The design itself is lightweight and reliable, and most importantly, it can have both a soft and hard base. A swing can be used to decorate a cottage, sleeping area, children's room, attic or playground. You can make it yourself using strong ropes and thick textiles.

Wicker cocoon

The cocoon chair, or egg, is one of the most popular models. It differs from other products in the presence of walls that hide almost the entire internal space. It is usually made from natural or artificial rattan, and sometimes wicker is used. This design will appeal not only to adults, but also to children. After all, in such a cocoon you can find solitude.

Nest chair made of hoop

This model is interesting because to make it you only need an iron hoop, which needs to be braided with strong yarn. The structure itself must be suspended from the ceiling with strong ropes. The nest can fit in any room, even a small room.

The variety of models also provides a method for attaching the base. A hanging chair can be attached to the ceiling, or it can stand on a stand. The choice of fastening depends on the characteristics of the room and the personal preferences of the owner.

The material for its manufacture also depends on the type of product chosen.

So, to build a swing you need to prepare thick fabric, strong ropes and wooden blocks. And if the product involves weaving, then willow, bird cherry and rattan twigs are suitable. They should be flexible enough to be woven by hand.

To make a nest chair, you will need an iron or plastic hoop that has sufficient rigidity. And to give unique style It is important to use durable fabric, foam filling, braiding laces and wooden boards.

Much depends on the weaving technique. One of the most famous is the macrame style, which involves intertwining knots of rope or ropes. With its help, you can achieve a sophisticated look for the product.

To ensure the reliability of the base, the patchwork technique is used. To do this, a patchwork blanket is attached on top of the main material.

The base of the product can be knitted with strong yarn or laces. Weaving from multi-colored laces will look especially beautiful.

An openwork pattern can be created using the tatting technique. Such a product will seem weightless and light, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of guests.

When choosing a material for weaving or creating a base, you need to take into account its characteristics. After all, not every material is strong enough to support the weight of an adult. It is also important to select strong fastening elements so that the structure can withstand the weight of the person sitting and not break.

How to do it yourself?

There are many drawings and step by step instructions For self-made this type of furniture. But the simplest is the swing chair, which will appeal to both adults and children.

To make it you will need two meters of thick textile, a thick meter-long wooden stick, a drill, carabiners, a strong cord, reliable threads and paint.

Execution:

  • First you need to take the fabric, fold it in half, measure 18 cm from the top corner and draw a diagonal to the bottom right corner. You will end up with an uneven triangle that needs to be cut out and removed. The main part of the fabric needs to be unfolded and the sides of the cut are sewn, while picking up their edges by a centimeter.
  • Next you need to create pockets for the laces. The edges of the long piece need to be folded 3 cm and stitched on a sewing machine.

  • On wooden block you need to make four holes, two on both edges. The distance between two holes should be 4.5 cm, and the distance between the central holes should not be less than 75 cm. The laces must be inserted into them and secured with strong knots. You also need to make a knot in the center of the rope so that a loop is formed on top, which will then be hung on a hook.

  • The hanging pieces of cord must be passed through the fabric and pass through the holes in the stick that are located along its edges. Then you need to make knots for secure fixation.
  • You need to attach two connected carabiners to the ceiling hook, you need to thread the cord into the lower carabiner. This way the structure will gain sufficient strength for safe rocking in the chair.

You can decorate the resulting product decorative pillows with a bright print. It is ideal for the street if you place it on the veranda or under a large tree.

One more interesting model for self-production - a drop. To do this, they purchase about 500 rattan rods, a steel hoop, several metal pipes or strong ropes that will be woven together in the shape of a circle. Then you will need PVA glue, strong rope, cord and chain.

Stages of work:

  • Before starting work, you need to calculate the size of the drop. Then you need to peel the rattan rods from the bark and cut them into equal pieces. To give good flexibility when weaving, the rods need to be steamed and beaten.
  • The furniture frame can be made from polypropylene pipes, metal or a slightly compressed hoop to obtain a semicircular shape of the product. If a pipe is used for the frame, then its ends must be fastened with special fasteners. In the future, you will need to attach rods to it, the length of which should be 30-40 cm higher than the product.

  • The rods are attached to the base so that the distance between them increases evenly, until approximately the middle of the product, and then so that this distance decreases. To give the chair its shape, the rods must be bent during the weaving process.
  • To secure the rattan, its rods need to be bent through the hoop several times and secured their ends with strong ropes. Next, the structure needs to be intertwined with thin rods, starting from the bottom and ending at the top. To give the product additional strength, all fastening points must be lubricated with glue.

You can lay a thin blanket or put a large flattened pillow in the finished chair.

Required materials

Depending on the selected type of product, you may need various materials. First of all, you need to prepare those that will make up the structure of the hanging chair. These can be pipes, hoops, rods, ropes or bars. If you are making a swing chair, then you only need durable and wear-resistant fabric.

It is important to decide what the filling for the bag that will be in the chair will be. After all, being in it should be as comfortable and safe as possible, so it is better to purchase padding polyester or foam rubber. But a foam pillow will not be able to transfer moisture, and therefore it is better to use this option in the house.
