Where does the sawdust go? Proven ways to use sawdust in the countryside. Properties that are useful and not so useful.

The correspondent of “Your Parallel” tried to find out how wood processing waste is used in our forest republic.

The other day I had the opportunity to drive along the Syktyvkar – Nyuvchim highway. Outside the car window is a frozen coniferous forest, a winter fairy tale. On the way we overtake a heavy vehicle, the body of which is filled with sawdust. Another such car turned off the highway onto a large training ground, where a tractor was busily working, leveling huge piles of sawdust. The landfill is a giant area in the forest, clearly visible from the road, littered with tons of sawdust and wood chips, or so-called “solid waste.”

A reasonable question: why does wood, which would be quite suitable for heating purposes (it’s winter after all!), disappear in the forest, rot and turn into a substance completely unsuitable for anything? The technology for producing cheap fuel from wood waste (wood pellets and granules) is quite simple, but for some reason it did not suit the Komi Republic (unlike our neighbors in Kirov).

When I got out of the car to look around the landfill and assess the scale of mismanagement, I saw smoke coming from a trailer parked by the road. The watchman (apparently guarding the landfill so that no one would think of setting it on fire) said that this creation of human hands belongs to LDK, or, officially, SLDK - Northern Forest LLC.

Where does the waste from such a large plant go? The correspondent of “Your Parallel” managed to collect three versions, none of which one hundred percent explains the current state of affairs.

The first option was heard from the lips of an ordinary employee of that same LDK. According to his version, the wood chips are sold to Mondi SYK and the plywood factory, and the sawdust is burned in the boiler room. The employee has no idea who heads LDK today. And why? After all, the main thing is that salaries are paid on time. As it turned out later, directors here change regularly, and no one stays at LDK for long.

The second version belongs to Mr. B., a representative of one of the republican ministries. He claims that all LDK solid waste is transported to a landfill located in the Lesozavod area, or processed into wood pellets and briquettes at the chipboard plant ( particle boards). The further fate of the granules and pellets is unknown to him.

The third and, in my opinion, the most truthful version is that the wood chips and sawdust are simply taken to a landfill.

It is worth recalling the scandalous stories associated with the SLDK landfill on the outskirts of Syktyvkar. It burned for several years in a row, and residents of the surrounding area literally suffocated from carbon monoxide. A question that hit the nail on the head on one of the forums: “How long can this continue, the villages are suffocating. Or are the owners of LDK untouchable?”

After unsuccessful attempts to understand the waste recycling situation, I called LDK directly. A minute of long beeps. Answered by a young woman who immediately asked to contact the director “on general issues" After the “connection” began, I hung on the phone for a few more minutes and, completely desperate, decided to call back again.

Only an hour later, the girl on the other end of the line (position unknown) explained that the sawdust was actually taken to the landfill or sold to the boiler room. The landfill in Lesozavod has not been operational for several years.

And the name general director She can’t even name it, supposedly the position is currently vacant.

Why can't we make wood pellets, which are cheap fuel? This would immediately reduce the cost of housing and communal services. Waste from wood processing is sold to timber processing plants or to a plywood factory. Pellets are made from them, but such material is used exclusively for export. As I learned, such a plant for processing sawdust into pellets existed in the village of Noshul. Managed to find interesting information in the newspaper “Red Banner” dated July 20, 2006:

Today the plant is ready, the first pellets of unusual fuel have been produced. The raw material for their production is low-grade wood. The official opening of the enterprise (Moscow company Algir Pellets LLC) will take place on the eve of the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the formation of the Komi Republic.”

The plant did not operate for long, the managers were constantly changing, the products were exported abroad, to Italy. I found a comment to an article about the plant in Noshul dated April 3, 2011, 00:54 (infobio.ru/news/945.html):

That's it, there are no more traces of the enterprise's work. They say that a new similar plant is planned to open in 2013...

In the meantime, we can only hope that the government of the Komi Republic will pay attention to how wood processing enterprises manage solid waste and take measures for a more economical and rational use of the already fragile natural resources.

If you like to walk around the outskirts of town, near sawmills or abandoned houses. Then you just need a shocker, you can buy it online. Use it for self-defense in difficult life situations.

Well, sir, it has come to a direct answer to the question where to put sawdust from the garden. The direct answer is short and concise ( Don't talk long, for life is short) HERE!!! Namely, in that place between the beds, which was carefully cleared of weeds, which were mercilessly torn out and right there laid to dry in hay.
The lumps of earth obviously did not have time to dry out and the microbes there, although they suffered a little from thirst, obviously did not die. And if so, they need to be protected from the heat and solar radiation.
Since the layers of sawdust covering that had compacted and stuck together over the summer were now just plates that did not crumble in the hands, I began to pry them up with my fingers and simply put them in a bucket. In order to then fill up with them the fresh paths between the beds, all the drying vegetation there and drying microbes.
Moreover, these sawdust have been in the garden for almost a year; some process of digestion into the soil has already begun. Eh, if there was more rain, it would be absolutely good. This process would probably have been much more intense. And so... Biomass, nothing more.

And the zucchini, which had been sitting in thought at the beginning of summer, began to bloom. By the way, in exact accordance with Igor’s information, there is a pile of mown grass under the carpet. No sawdust. They are also a kind of flowers, it’s a pity they just fade away at the moment. The bee sat and he curled up. And then it completely fell off. But for now it’s blooming.
But now I know exactly where I’m leaving all the flower tops. Under the currants. Otherwise, there are practically currant raisins hanging on them. What a summer... The soil needs to be covered more substantially.
In the meantime, all I have to do is harvest some kind of harvest, that onion that I stuck in the ground quite recently and get ready for the cities... I’ll tweet about currants next time, but for now with a question where to put sawdust from the garden I figured it out, that's enough for now. All.
Good luck.

At sawmills and woodworking enterprises it is often huge masses accumulate sawdust that needs to go somewhere.

After all, uncontrolled sawdust sometimes ignites spontaneously, which can lead to a fire.

In addition, for storing sawdust you have to give up a lot of free space, which could be used to store more healthy products or use in some other way.

In this article we will talk about those methods of disposal that are like may bring financial benefits, and will lead to losses.

After all, it is not always possible to dispose of waste from sawing wood profitably or to use it for the development of an enterprise, so you have to look for any methods, albeit costly ones, that will clear the area of them.

Here are the main ways to get rid of sawdust:

  • burying in the ground;
  • burning;
  • disposal to landfill;
  • use for own needs;
  • sales to various buyers;
  • transfer to those who are ready to receive them.

Burying in the ground - good way disposal of wood waste, if their volume does not exceed several cubic meters. Having rotted, this waste will turn into an excellent fertilizer that can be used to grow various plants.

If an enterprise produces at least a cubic meter of such waste every week, then after 3–5 years there will be nowhere to bury it. In addition, this disposal method may raise questions from Rosprirodnadzor and other regulatory organizations, as a result of which Various commissions will visit the enterprise and it is unknown what conclusion they will come to.

Incineration is suitable for recycling a small amount of sawdust, but you can try to burn several tens of cubic meters.

The problem is that waste from sawing wood burns for a long time and produces a lot of smoke, and also scatters smoldering sparks around it, which can cause a fire.

In addition, burning a large volume of this material will attract the attention of neighbors and organizations such as the Ministry of Emergency Situations or GosFire Supervision. As a result, inspections will begin that will find out whether you had the right to burn wood waste and whether you caused damage to nature or to an enterprise/person.

Disposal of wood sawing waste to a landfill does not require any special permissions, it is enough to conclude an agreement with a company that provides household waste disposal services.

However, in this case you will have to pay for the appointment dumping every cubic meter of waste, and given their low density, the amount will add up to a considerable amount.

Therefore, this method is also not the best option to get rid of large volumes of sawdust.

Sawdust is a valuable material that can be used in many different ways.

For example, their it turns out good insulation , so in winter the workshop or sawmill will be warmer, and heating costs will also be reduced.

They can also be used as fuel for a boiler installation, in which case you can seriously save on energy resources.

However, first you will have to adapt the boiler or oven to work on this type of fuel and store sawdust in a spacious, ventilated room equipped with a fire extinguishing system.

Selling to various buyers is the most profitable way disposal of wood waste, however, it can only be implemented where there are many people and enterprises interested in receiving sawdust and there is no supplier.

How larger number suppliers, the less potential buyers are willing to pay for them, to the point that sometimes you have to give away, only by concluding an agreement on the gratuitous transfer of tangible assets.

The only problems that arise with this method of disposal are:

  • searching for those who are ready to accept;
  • costs of delivering material to them;
  • documentary evidence of the transfer of waste to write it off from the balance sheet of the enterprise.

Where to look for consumers?

If you were unable to use all the waste yourself and have not found ways to dispose of it safely and inexpensively, then you need to look for those who need sawdust and who are willing to take it. To do this, you need to clearly understand who are the consumers of this material? and where they might be located.

Here is a list of those who may be interested in a regular supply of sawdust:

  • farmers;
  • manufacturers of building materials;
  • construction crews;
  • paper mills;
  • chemical and pulp factories;
  • shops, especially chain hypermarkets;
  • villager.

Many farmers are ready to buy inexpensively or take quite large quantities for free(several dump trucks per month) of wood waste, using it both for obtaining fertilizers or growing mushrooms, and for.

Farmers and even farms rarely turns out Dump truck available for travel for sawdust.

Therefore, there is a high probability that you will have to not only transport material to them, but also do it at your own expense.

It is also possible that farmers will not only take delivery upon themselves, but also will be able to at least symbolically pay for waste.

Enterprises engaged in the production of building materials can also take for free or buy sawdust, because several types of building materials are made from them, such as:

Compared to traditional building materials, sawdust products have higher thermal insulation properties, thanks to which houses can be built from them without installing an insulating layer.

Waste from sawing wood is also excellent for insulating any buildings, and is far ahead by the ratio of the quality of the finished insulation to the costs any modern materials.

Paper mills also often buy or take sawdust for free, but they are only interested in very large volumes, because the costs of paper production are justified only when producing tens and hundreds of tons of products per year.

However, if there is such an enterprise near you and you want to get rid of sawdust, then visit it and talk to management.

The same applies to chemical and pulp plants and factories.

Many stores, including chain stores, are ready to take sawdust for sale, but at the same time they put forward quite serious demands concerning the packaging of this material in bags, bags or other containers.

In addition, some of them may agree to take only compressed wood waste for sale, and also put forward requirements regarding such aspects as:

  • breed;
  • color;
  • smell;
  • presence or absence of bark.

Rural residents are also interested in sawdust, engaged in the cultivation of plants or animals. In most cases, they do not have their own transport to deliver this material, so they will have to negotiate and decide who will bear the cost of delivery.

Even if the owner of a sawmill or woodworking enterprise has to deliver sawdust using his own transport or pay for the services of a third-party carrier, it will still be cheaper than other disposal methods.

Purchase of landfill quotas for waste disposal or various fines that regulatory authorities will issue in response to burning or burying sawdust, will cost significantly more.

How to dispose of wood waste profitably?

The only way to benefit is to find someone who not only needs sawdust and does not have a constant supply of it, but also ready to pay for them, and also bear the shipping costs.

Read more about pricing and various ways to increase profits when selling sawdust.

In addition, you will find it useful, in which we talked about various types business related to the disposal of wood sawing waste and its processing into useful and popular products.

How to increase the demand for sawdust?

To increase the demand for sawdust, it is necessary to understand what requirements are placed on them by certain consumers, and also what prevents them from making a choice between your waste and sawdust from another enterprise.

Most potential consumers are primarily interested in the cost of the product, so we recommend determining average price throughout the city and reduce it by 20–50%.

Once you have a lot of clients, you can gradually raise the price, focusing on their behavior and reaching a golden mean.

The second point that influences the choice of supplier sawdust is associated with shipping costs. The more favorable the conditions for the consumer are offered by the manufacturer, the higher the chance that the contract will be concluded with him.

Therefore, it is easiest for those manufacturers who have We have our own dump trucks of sufficient volume(the larger the volume of the car body, the cheaper the unit cost of delivery of each cubic meter of material).

If you don’t have your own transport, but there are large volumes of material and the manufacturer has to pay for delivery at his own expense, then the best solution will tractor or truck rental With dump trailer large volume.

You can also reduce delivery costs and thereby increase the demand for sawdust by improving logistics, reducing the number of operations between receiving waste and loading it into the back of a dump truck.

The easiest way to do this is by installing cyclone ventilation bunkers– sawdust will immediately fall into the bunker, the volume of which is comparable to the volume of the dump truck body.

Therefore, after the vehicle arrives, it will be enough to open the valve and pour all the material into the car.

Sometimes potential consumers or sellers are ready to take sawdust packaged in bags or bags. To enter this market will have to buy necessary equipment , as well as bags or polyethylene/cellophane for bags. This increases capital costs, but makes waste more in demand.

You can also order some beautiful label from a printing house and put it in each package, which will make the sawdust look more presentable.

It’s no secret that many people choose the necessary goods based on not only for functionality, but also on appearance. Therefore, sawdust in bags, equipped with beautiful labels, will be more in demand than an incomprehensible mass in an ugly bag.

If you have inexpensive bags, then sawdust in bags will also find its buyer.

However, in most cases, potential consumers prefer to take pressed sawdust in bags, because for the same price they get slightly more volume.

These consumers include those who keep various animals at home and need high-quality litter for cats, dogs and other litter boxes.

But even in this case, a beautiful label on a bag of sawdust will make your product more in demand, increasing its competitiveness.

If you deliver sawdust in bags or bags to chain stores, then It is advisable to use a tractor with a semi-trailer to take out on one flight maximum amount goods.

Pallets and trays made of sawdust, which we talked about in the article (Slabs, pallets and boards), will help speed up loading and avoid inefficient manual transfer of bags and packages.

Transport containers made of any materials are necessary for sending packaged sawdust to most developed countries, so if you find a sawdust consumer there, then you will have to spend money on pallets or equipment for their production.
