What do you remember about 12 Evil Spectators? Why MTV is bringing back the show that blew the minds of an entire generation 12 angry viewers on April 14

Popular music show on the MTV Russia channel. The program aired intermittently from 1999 to 2009; in April 2017, the project was revived.

The plot of the program 12 angry spectators

The program format was borrowed from a show called " 12 Angry Viewers", which aired on American MTV for some time.

In the original version of the program " 12 angry spectators“A group of 12 expert viewers watched 4 completely new video clips that had not yet been shown on television. Each of the 12 show participants selected as a result of casting gave their assessment of the video on the basis of “like or dislike,” which determined the rating of its showing on the MTV channel.

First edition " 12 angry spectators"was released on July 10, 1999, and on June 1, 2002, the project was closed. In the fall of 2003, the program reappeared on the channel, but was soon closed again.

Reboot: 13 Evil Viewers

In 2008, the program returned to MTV with a changed title - “ 13 angry spectators"and an updated concept. In the show " 13 angry spectators“They still chose the best and worst clip from the 5 presented Russian and foreign creations, but now another “evil” viewer joined the dozen participants - the best participant in the previous program.

The clips were evaluated according to several criteria - plot, staging, musical performance, special effects, embodiment of the author's idea. At the end of each episode, angry viewers also chose the best and worst clip, determining their rotation on the channel.

At the end of 2008, the format changed once again " Angry spectators": instead of ordinary participants, celebrities began to participate in the program as experts - singers, DJs, presenters, musicians, actors and other stars of Russian show business. Viewers also attended the program and expressed their opinions about the video. From among them, the best critic was chosen, who became the 13th “evil viewer.” The number of clips was reduced to 3.

« 13 angry spectators"were positioned as a talk show for a progressive youth audience. The undoubted highlight and advantage of the program was the ability for viewers to choose which music videos would be broadcast on the popular music channel MTV.

Many guests in the studio were adamant in their judgments, but tried to give an objective and informed assessment of the clips of various musical genres presented “to be torn apart”: pop, alternative, rap, rock, etc. The program was interesting because it gave ordinary young guys the opportunity to become participants show and communicate live with both eminent figures of the domestic showbiz and rising stars of the Russian music scene.

Hosts of the program 12 angry viewers

The program's presenters changed several times: Yana ChurikovaStar Factory», « Good morning», « Cruel Games»), Pierre Narcisse(graduate " Star factories – 2»), Andrey Grigoriev-Apollonov(lead singer of the group " Ivanushki International»), Tatyana Gevorkyan(MTV VJ, presenter of " Stilissimo», « Playstation», « Highest standard»), Mikhail Grebenshchikov(participant in the TV show " Star Factory – 1», « Last Hero", TV host " 5 songs on the Fifth»), Yuri Pashkov(DJ radio MAXIMUM), Taya Katyusha(MTV VJ, presenter with a higher musical education), Tair Mamedov(participant of projects " comedy club», « Last Hero", starred in the film " A very Russian detective»).

Return of the 12 Evil Spectators

April 14, 2017 show " 12 angry spectators"returned to air on MTV Russia. Irreconcilable critics will once again watch the latest music videos, discuss them and give their assessments.

The MTV channel is about to restart the music show “12 Evil Spectators” from April 14. The format will remain the same: guests in the studio will evaluate the artists' music videos.

The premiere episode will be dedicated to clips from Ivan Dorn’s album “Open the Dorn”. The broadcast will begin at 19:00 Moscow time. The program can be viewed via cable or satellite networks, as MTV has been on the air since 2013.

Among the new “evil viewers” were presenter Alexander Anatolyevich (Belonogov), a cult favorite for the MTV audience, musicians - rapper Husky and singer Valeria, as well as producer Joseph Prigozhin.

There are many journalists among the critics: media director of Yandex.Zen Daniil Trabun, Argumenty i Fakty columnist Vladimir Polupanov, head of the special correspondents department of the publication Meduza Alexander Gorbachev, editor of the culture department of Komsomolskaya Pravda Elena Lapteva.

Also critics will be the owner of the art space “Fotofactura” Kirill Zaitsev, TV presenter Alena Vodonaeva, head of the “European Media Group” Roman Emelyanov and jury member of the “Dancing” program Miguel.

Restart

MTV has decided to reboot “evil viewers” for the third time in its history. This happened against the backdrop of other TV channels becoming popular on air.

The rules were simple: each of the 12 participants gave a rating to the clips they watched. At the end of the program, the best and worst videos, as well as the most “evil viewer,” were selected. The winner participated in the next episode. The episodes usually featured a guest celebrity.

The program appeared in 1999 and is a copy of the American program of the same name. In the United States, it did not achieve popularity and lasted only two seasons, while the Russian adaptation acquired cult status. The show was hosted by Yana Churikova, for whom “spectators” became one of her first big projects.

In 2002, Churikova left 12 Evil Spectators. The program continued for another six months. Another attempt to launch the show took place in the fall of 2003, but the experiment lasted a year.

The program returned to air for the third time in 2008 with the same concept, but a different name - “13 Evil Spectators”. After several attempts to change the format, the show failed and closed. The last episode aired on MTV in 2009.

Churikova became an iconic character for “evil viewers”, but after her departure the level of the hosts almost always remained decent: Pierre Narcisse, Andrei Grigoriev-Apollonov, Tanya Gevorkyan, Mikhail Grebenshchikov, Yuri Pashkov, Taya Katyusha and Tahir Mamedov became the faces of the show at different times.

Issues

Fans of the show will say that almost every episode of 12 Evil Spectators is worthy of mention. During the programs there were not just discussions, but fierce battles that were difficult to compare with other TV programs about music. Critics' ratings often led to a decrease in the rotation of the video or became a blow to the artist's career. TJ remembered some of the iconic episodes of the program.

The very first issue

From the first second, Yana Churikova declared the show the most democratic on Russian television and called the program the first opportunity to find out how clips appear on MTV.

Two videos were then recognized as the worst clips: “Young Girl is a Fool” by the group “Ahi-Sighs” and “I will fly for you” by Tatyana Ovsienko.

Decl

One of the first appearances in the program of the “star defender” Decl, who, according to Churikova, came to music “when he was still a little kid.” The rap artist became a symbol of MTV and often appeared in the company of other viewers. Not without the influence of the musician’s father, producer Alexander Tolmatsky.

A little more Decl

In response, Decl dedicated entire verses to “12 evil spectators.”

Thematic programs

Sometimes a show was entirely dedicated to one artist or genre. For example, rappers and rockers received almost the only platform for constructive criticism of their opponents.

And sometimes VJs couldn’t stand it and took the criticism on their own.

Formation of artists

Old episodes of the show provide a chance to look at Russian artists who were either at the peak of their fame, or, conversely, were little known. For example, on Basta and his alter ego.

Or the Agatha Christie group.

The rapper Husky, who quickly conquered the musical Olympus, is considered a typical hero of modern times and is even compared to Sergei Yesenin. He quickly turned from an ordinary Siberian youth into a metropolitan hip-hop star, repeating the fate of the famous poet, and even earned praise from the lips of a star of the domestic rap scene Oksimiron.

Became known to the masses after the premiere of the “October 7” video, released for his birthday Vladimir Putin.

The opinion of connoisseurs of the genre about Husky is divided: some call it reliable Russian rap, others consider it outright “jeans” and a purely production project. His friendship with the writer also caused a lot of controversy Zakhar Prilepin and a trip to Donbass.

Village childhood

Dmitry Kuznetsov, which is the real name of the rapper Husky, was born in Ulan-Ude, the multicultural capital of Buryatia, famous for its Buddhist datsans.

His preschool years were spent in a village on the shores of Lake Baikal, with his aunt. He grew up with the village children, sharing their games and interests, quickly made friends, and played a lot of yard football.

Thanks to the efforts of his aunt, at the age of three, little Dima already knew how to read. At first they bought him interesting children's publications, later the child himself began to reach for books, making reading a good habit, which he later carried into adulthood as the rapper Husky.

Husky (Dmitry Kuznetsov) before he became famous

Before entering school, Dmitry returned to his mother in Ulan-Ude. He studied well, although he was not an excellent student. During my school years I was fond of reading classical literature.

At the age of fifteen, inspired by the works of “Caste” and “Ellipsis”, he made his first attempt to compose a rap. In 2010, having successfully passed the Unified State Exam, the graduate decided to try his luck and set off to conquer Moscow. He had the knowledge and lessons of good teachers on his side. A sixteen-year-old boy from the outback passed exams at Moscow State University and was enrolled in the journalism department.

Life in the capital required certain financial influences, so as a student Dmitry managed to work in construction, was a realtor, a waiter, and even wrote texts for films for adults.

From his first year, he worked on federal and opposition channels, analyzed news, and traveled with a film crew to collect material. While working on the Rossiya TV channel, he traveled to Donbass as a journalist.

Dmitry Kuznetsov – Husky

As a student, Dmitry Kuznetsov lived in the legendary “DAS dorm”, sharing a room with three neighbors. The hostel became his home for five years; he went to his mother for just a couple of weeks a year. The rest of the time, especially during the holidays, was devoted to work and creativity. Enjoying his solitude, he resumed his rapping lessons. It was within the walls of the dorm room that he recorded his debut album, “Sbch zhizn.”

Husky - Black and black

After graduating from Moscow State University, Dmitry Kuznetsov did not go to work in his specialty. The rapper Husky, writer and performer was born. Husky says that he was prompted to return to music by the events on Bolotnaya Square - then, during protests against the State Duma elections and the subsequent presidential elections, many opposition politicians were arrested, including Alexey Navalny, and ordinary people who decided to peacefully express their protest.

On October 7, 2011, he presented to the public his debut video for the song “Seventh of October.” The video was dedicated to the birthday of Vladimir Putin and hinted at the rotten essence of the Russian government elite.

During the development of his career, the rapper met the writer Zakhar Prilepin. He read his books, got inspired and sent a couple of his texts by email. Later, Husky’s voice could be heard in the chorus of the composition “It’s Time to Get Out” by Zakhar Prilepin and rapper Rich.

At first, he only wrote lyrics and rapped, but later he developed a passion for the musical component of songs and sound special effects. The first result was the video “Black and Black,” in which the rapper first appeared on camera. The video was highly praised by authoritative performers like Oksimiron and Karandash, calling Husky “the reincarnation of Yesenin in his gopnik neighbor.”

On April 1, 2017, Husky fans were able to evaluate the rapper’s new album “Favorite Songs of (Imaginary) People.” The album includes 13 compositions, some of which have already circulated on the Internet. “Everything that happens to me, I poured it out there... This is the most important thing I have done in my life,” Husky commented on his new album.

Two weeks later, Husky appeared on MTV's 12 Angry Spectators.

Husky's personal life

When it comes to personal matters, the rapper is very secretive. But journalists still managed to find out that in the summer of 2017 he married a graduate of the Moscow Art Theater School "Psychotronics", short film by Husky

Then security forces disrupted the rapper's concert in Rostov-on-Don, turning off the lights and sound equipment. However, the rapper continued his performance without musical accompaniment. Following this, a concert in Krasnodar was disrupted in a similar manner. Husky went outside and read one of his compositions from the roof of a car, after which he was detained by the police. The management of some clubs told the press that instructions about the undesirability of Husky concerts came “from above.”

The rapper was sentenced to 12 days of arrest, but he served only a third of the sentence. Head of Russia Today Margarita Simonyan directly stated that Husky was released after “2-3 people from the Presidential Administration” found out who Husky was and what happened to him, and were outraged. Dmitry was released, but canceled upcoming concerts, saying that he was tired of fighting.

The legendary show “12 Evil Spectators” will reappear on Russian MTV after a break of eight years. The first issue of the updated project will be released on Friday, April 14. “360” spoke with participants in the show from the “golden era” of the 2000s and found out whether the revived “viewers” will be able to regain their former popularity.

MTV Russia began broadcasting in 1998 and quickly formed a new generation, instilling in young Russians a love of world pop culture. At first, the channel simply broadcast video clips - after all, even this was a novelty for Russians. However, very quickly MTV had a program program - much was taken from the American older brother, but still had a Russian flavor. Thus, the television program “12 Angry Viewers” did not take root on New York MTV, but its Russian analogue “12 Angry Viewers” in its original format lasted three years and was dearly loved by both guests and television viewers. Later, the project was restarted twice, but did not reach the first two seasons.

The rules of the program are simple - 12 “spectators” in the studio discuss music videos that have not yet been seen by the world. And then they make their verdict.

Among the first hosts of “Evil” was then still a journalism student, Yana Churikova. Now she is on the list of channel leaders, but even despite the high position and the obvious pile of things to do, she agreed to host the updated “Spectators”.

Among the participants in the upcoming episode are MTV legend Alexander Anatolyevich, mentor of the “Dancing” show Miguel, singer Valeria with her husband Joseph Prigozhin, rapper Husky, presenter Alena Vodonaeva, media director of Yandex.Zen Daniil Trabun, head of the special correspondents department of Meduza Alexander Gorbachev and others . Guests will discuss clips from the new album of Ukrainian artist Ivan Dorn.

At one time, among the “jurors” and “defendants” in the program there were very different people - the epoch-making rapper Decl, the Agatha Christie group, musician Yuri Loza, singers Larisa Dolina, Tatyana Bulanova and many others. We will see the new show only tomorrow, but today “360” decided to find out from the “veterans” of “12 Evil Viewers” what they expect from the reborn show.

According to Yuri Loza, the “reincarnation” of the show is not a very good idea and only speaks of the lack of fresh ideas within the holding.

“Any project that once caused a reaction and was popular must be relaunched after some time. There is a great lack of creativity on television. It’s not even about success, they need to fill the airwaves with something, but there are no new thoughts,” says the musician.

Loza visited “Spectators” only once. According to the musician, he would never participate in a TV show a second time, and he has his own reasons for this.

I visited them once and will not go again. What are angry spectators? Why should anyone be evil? When you name a show, you immediately set yourself a format. What if everything is good and pleasant, if there is nothing to be angry about? And you have already been called an evil spectator, you are obliged to comply - whether there is a reason or not. I am against such labels and inevitabilities

Yuri Loza.

Another participant in the “old school” “12 Evil Spectators,” singer Prokhor Chaliapin, believes that the show will be successful, but the reason and price of such success do not make him happy.

The viewer has now become much angrier than in the days when the program was first broadcast. For those people who have little to show for it, this is a great way to remain - to criticize other, more successful people. Unfortunately, this is the mentality of our society today. Nobody wants to start themselves, everyone wants to look for the speck in someone else's eye, so, of course, this program will be a success. If only they had invited other great people - Madonna, for example - then who would they invite...

Prokhor Chaliapin.

The singer explained that he himself used to like to criticize and “add fuel to the fire,” but then he realized that this had a corrupting effect.

“I used to criticize everyone because I was young and stupid. This, of course, does not push a person forward. Now, thank God, I understand myself. Trying to rub someone's nose in the face by saying bad things about them is not a solution, you are just creating advertising. For me it is a waste of time to criticize someone. Now there will definitely be someone who will criticize,” Chaliapin shared.

Singer Tatyana Bulanova, who took part in the show at the beginning of the 2000s, is convinced that MTV is no longer the same and it is unlikely that it will be possible to return a bygone era, even with the help of such legendary programs.

By and large, the MTV channel no longer exists, that is, the way it used to be and how it was remembered. So one can hardly expect experienced success, but who knows. It used to be very new, interesting and not overtly aggressive. And now there is enough anger and hatred. Especially on social networks - here everyone can afford whatever they want, to express themselves in any way they want about famous personalities. Nowadays there is a lot of negativity everywhere, and it would be possible to raise the rating if we made this program positive, with good humor, light, without malice

Tatiana Bulanova.
