The Sun and Mercury will be in Taurus during the May transit. Shortly before the transit (May 6th), the New Moon will occur, and on the day of the transit the Moon will already be in Gemini, approaching the Cancer zodiac.

In essence, transit is an eclipse of the Sun. But because of very small size Mercury's disk, whose apparent diameter is only 0.6% of the diameter of the Sun's disk, for observers from Earth this planet will be just a speck on the solar disk.
To observe Mercury's progress across the Sun, you will need optics and light filters.
The next time we will be able to observe the passage of Mercury across the solar disk will be in three and a half years (November 11, 2019).

Lunar eclipses in 2016

No luck with lunar ones either. There will be two lunar eclipses in 2016, both penumbral. In these types of eclipses, the disk of the Moon is not covered by the Earth’s shadow, but only by its penumbra, and the Moon’s brightness does not decrease significantly. The change in brightness during a penumbral eclipse is practically invisible to the naked eye and is recorded only by instruments.

Lunar eclipse March 23, 2016

A penumbral lunar eclipse will occur on March 23 at 14:48 Moscow time (11:48 UTC) during the March Full Moon.
During the eclipse, the Sun will be near the vernal equinox, and the Moon will be near the autumn equinox.
This lunar eclipse in its various phases can be observed in most Russian regions with the exception of the European part of Russia, including Moscow.
The zone of good visibility of the lunar eclipse on March 23, 2016 is the Pacific Ocean. At sunset, the eclipse can be observed in North and South America. At lunar rise in eastern Asia and Australia. In Europe and Africa, during a lunar eclipse, the Moon will be below the horizon.

The lunar eclipse will begin at 09:40 UTC, when the Earth's penumbra touches the edge of the lunar disk.
At 11:48 UTC the moment of greatest eclipse will occur, when the Moon will be closest to the center of the Earth's shadow. The Earth's penumbra will cover 77.5% of the diameter of the lunar disk. The boundary of the Moon's disk will not reach the edge of the Earth's shadow by about a third of its diameter.
At 13:55 UTC, the Moon will completely emerge from Earth's penumbra. This will end the eclipse.
The duration of the March 2016 lunar eclipse was 4 hours 15 minutes 22 seconds.
Moscow time, the lunar eclipse will end at 16:55. Only two hours after the Moon leaves the Earth's penumbra (at 18:52 Moscow time) the Moon will rise over Moscow.
In Siberia it will be possible to observe the final part of the Lunar Eclipse at moonrise.

Lunar eclipse September 16, 2016

The second Penumbral Lunar Eclipse of 2016 will occur on September 16th at 21:55 Moscow time (18:55 UTC) during the September Full Moon.
All of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia fall within the visibility zone of the eclipse. In the Americas, the Moon will be below the horizon throughout the eclipse.

The lunar eclipse will begin at 16:55 UTC, when the edge of the Moon's disk touches the Earth's penumbra.
At 18:55 UTC the moment of greatest eclipse will occur. The Earth's penumbra will cover more than 90% of the diameter of the lunar disk, the edge of which will almost reach the boundary of the Earth's shadow.
At 20:54 UTC, the Moon will completely leave the Earth's penumbra.
The duration of the September 2016 lunar eclipse is 3 hours 59 minutes 16 seconds.
